Big dining venue with lots of indoor and outdoor dining options. The views of the lake from the upper decks are great. They don't take reservations and it looks like the kind of place that is always busy. Since we were early, we had no trouble getting an outside table with a nice view. Our server was pleasant and food came from the kitchen quickly. The general consensus around the table was that the food was OK, nothing bad but certainly nothing memorable. Fries on the side were kind of limp and sad, even though I had asked for crispy fries. Cocktails were nice and potent, and we thought prices were reasonable given the touristy location. Maybe come here for some drinks and apps, and find a better venue for entrees.

Don't go in thinking you'll find the same menu at both spots. You won't ... and there are minimal crossover selections. The place is NOISY - hard floors, hard walls and hard ceiling with very little effort made to dampen the sound. At our table we were practically yelling to each other to be heard. The staff is friendly but the service is SLOW. The food was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. Prices are reasonable. McKenzies Pub needs to "up" its game.

We had to get out of dodge and enjoy some relaxation by the lake. When we showed up everywhere we drove by the spots we normally frequented and everywhere was closed, sometime near 8 pm. We did a search and found that here was open and headed over as fast as we could to try to get something to eat. Unfortunately the grill just closed, and we resigned ourselves to a liquid dinner. The chef then pokes his head out and offers to make a pretzel for us, and we could not have been happier. It was a big one too. The staff was just so welcoming and seemingly very happy that we were there... which is not always the case in the general area... that Burnt Timber became one of our usual spots instantly. Each time we've been back it has always been that way, which is even more rare not just here but back in the Boston area as well. So again if you like smoked and fermented things in an unpretentious atmosphere with very friendly staff I'm pretty sure you'll love this place too

My husband's meal was equally good. We heard similar comments from our dining companions including "worth the wait." I would have given it 5 stars but it did take a little too long to get our meals. Basically, it was a mountain of fries, a plain hot dog bun (not even butter toasted) and a small cup of mayonaise covered cole slaw. The fish and chips are okay ... it looks better than it tastes. Appetizers are nothing to write home about, although the seafood chowder was the best dish any of us had, loaded with clams, potatoes and fish. We found ourselves pondering the menu as nothing looked incredibly good. The views are what you come for. On a nice day, the early 2000's 'wooden everything' decorated interior is not where you want to be seated. The upper deck area naturally has a long wait ... but great waterfrobt views. They have a lower deck as well, which is covered. Slightly less remarkabke views as you are at water level. The waiter was great. Lots of good suggestions and wasn't obstrusive.
