I just had the most disappointing meal at O Bistro. My husband and I arrived at 4:45 p.m. and sat at the bar. There were only 3 other couples in the restaurant at the time. We were ready to order, but we were basically ignored. I have a distinct feeling that locals are recognized and served first. The bartenders chatted with many customers they knew, which is nice, but uncomfortable for newbies like us. A couple, who came in after us, sat next to us and were served first. They received their drinks before we were even asked what we would like to drink. I ordered the special, prime rib to be prepared medium-well. Unfortunately, it was moo-ing (very raw in the middle) when I got it and cold to boot. The mashed potatoes were warm and the side, mushy veggies, were too. I didn't want to return it because I was afraid it would take too long to get it back in time to enjoy eating dinner with my husband. It became busy in the bar area and I knew it would take awhile to get my meal. My husband had the soup of the day, a bowl of creamy chicken, and a wedge salad. He enjoyed his meal. Will we go back? Hmmmm...we might return, but clearly it wasn't what we expected from such a highly recommended and respected restaurant in Wolfeboro. read more

Wonderful dinner! My special ladyfriend and I had dinner at O Bistro in Wolfeboro, NH a few nights ago, and man, the food was gooood. First off, as opposed to what another reviewer wrote, it was VERY EASY TO FIND THE DOOR. Yes, there are multiple doors, as any building would have. It's an inn. There are entryways, side doors, fire exits, etc. You get the picture... Doors- they have some. The way to get in is via the FRONT DOOR WITH THE BIG SIGN. The entry is in the middle of the front of the building, as one would expect. It is clearly labeled. ENTRY WAS EASY. We enjoyed immediate access by pulling on the handle on the CLEARLY MARKED ENTRANCE TO THE BISTRO. The door swung out and we swung in with ease. It was nicely air conditioned, which we were thankful for as it was quite a hot day! Our hostess (who seemed to also be the owner or manager) was an affable sort and clearly enthusiastic about the quality of her bistro's food. I don't recall her name, but Sarah would be a good fit. She made us feel welcome and sat us at a nice table in the corner of the dining room near the window, away from the bustle of the bar. The dining room was nice and quiet. If anyone thought the dining room was loud and the bar was quiet they may have gone in the wrong door. I had the ahi tuna stir fry. Mmmmmmm! The tuna looked and tasted very fresh. It was perfectly seared, rare in the middle, had a spicy pepper crust on the outside, and was served atop a plate of stir fry which included brown rice, veggies, and asparagus tempura. My womanfriend ordered the haddock with creamed brussel sprouts; she was kind enough to share some with me and hers was delicious as well. She REALLY enjoyed that fish. Our waitress was delightful. We think she might be a chemistry major, but possibly an engineering major (I would guess mechanical). Those are our best guesses. If we go back we'll ask, as it would be awkward to call the restaurant and ask from afar. But we're pretty sure it's chemistry. Sometimes you can tell. It was truly a lovely dinner! The bistro is nicely (albeit conservatively) decorated in typical New England style, with wooden chairs and a lot of old people. The white table cloths were a nice touch. I ordered a Scottish Mule, which was a tasty twist on the all too trendy Moscow Mule. The antediluvian gentleman at the table next to us was practicing his repertoire of Dad jokes (or grandad, or great-grandad jokes), including such classics as "Of course I'm watching my weight- I'm watching it go up, and up!". He had the nicest socks, pulled sooo high. I think they were Nike. If we go back to Wolfeboro we just might have to visit O again. The food was really THAT good! We took some home, and it was in a box. The box looked a bit like a Chinese take-out box, but it was black, which seemed really classy. It held the food well. They served us fresh bread in a white paper bag, like a bakery, which is nice, since that makes it easy to take home bread without embarrassment. Overall, an absolute delight! I have heard wonderful things about O Bistro and tonight I learned first hand they are all true! Our waiter Jay was phenomenal. He was able to answer all of our questions and was extremely personable. He made great suggestions and checked in on us at the most appropriate times. I would give it 5 stars but the wait is to o long, even when you have a reservation. We had a reservation for 6:15 and were seated at 6:45. They are very short staffed, I would not recommend going until they can find more help. We ate there probably 6 six times while on vacation and it was always the same, wait, wait. One evening they served us water in bottle that was luke warm and no ice in our glasses, getting a hold of a waiter to put in your order can take a long time then a long time to finally get the order. The food is good. The waits make it unnerving . I hate spending money on food and then have the whole evening taken yup by waiting for this and that. If help is that hard to come by don't promise reservations! read more

I ate here twice, in early August and early September 2020. Both times, the service was very slow, with repeated requests necessary for basic service. The quality of the food differed markedly. On my second visit, I enjoyed the meat loaf - definitely recommended. Good dinner. It had a friendly warm environment. Service was good. The bread rolls were served warm in a paper bag with a special apple citrus butter. My wife thought the baked haddock with vegetables was quite good. I enjoyed twin fillet medallions with Parmesan/garlic fries. We each had one drink and when the bill came I was still satisfied. We eat here often and love the food, atmosphere and staff. The food is always above average and hot. Lobster Mac and cheese, escargot, steak tips and salmon are always delicious and our favorites. I've heard rave reviews as my parents live in the area and frequent this place often, so I'm hoping tonight was just an off night in their end. We had reservations for 8 of us (including 3 kids) at 6pm on a Saturday evening, as we arrived and seated I noticed not many people in the dining room but soon it filled up. Our waiter greeted us with water and bread but never came back to our table for drink order. When he did finally come back 15min later we asked for a drink menu ordered our drinks and apps as the kids were hungry. 10min later after our appetizers arrived he informed us that they were out of 3 of the drinks we ordered. Hmmm. Meals were ordered at this time 2 orders of kids tenders specifically with honey mustard. Chicken and gravy, swordfish special, filet mignon, seafood carbonara and an app of ahi tuna for myself. We waited close to 45min for our meals. Food was cold, waiter informed us of no honey mustard for the kids (if known would've changed their order) and once again waited 5min for him to come back with ketchup, water and replacement silverware. Once we finished eating the waiter just dropped the check on the table. No offer of dessert, coffee, drinks or even the cookies that are included with the kids meals. After asking for all of the above he stormed off with the bill and brought back everything to finish the meal. I double checked the bill at the end and of course the drinks ordered that they were out of were not removed. Will I come back, . This was previously a somewhat decent resturaunt for a local chain, but due to staff turnover, its not worth visiting unless you want mediocre food, poor service and a lingering question about how your waitstaff clean and dry their hands after using the facilities. read more

We ate here for the first time last night and they had a swordfish special over spinach risotto. It was delicious. Many times the portions at other restaurants a small or thin, but this was a nice size and thickness. It was cooked just right, not dry not rare. We also got the stroganoff which was good, but the portion had a smaller piece of meat, but the pasta was so large that it was a bit heavy. We will be back! read more

Went to NRA banquet tonight at O Bistro and it was the worst food we have ever had. Meat and chicken were soooo over cooked and dried out it seemed like it was cooked last week. Went to O Bistro for the first time last year and thought it was a great place for a variety of dinner options at a variety of prices (try the Ahi appetizer as a light meal for only $8!). Went back this summer with my husband and ended up dining in the bar area three nights in a row. All of our meals were fantastic and the service was great. We went to O Bistro to celebrate s birthday and couldn't have been more disappointed. We arrived on time for our reservations and were escorted into a nearly empty dining room and were sat next to the kitchen door. When we asked to move to a different table we were told that we could move to a two top wedged in between the only two other parties in the dining room but all the other tables were reserved. Funny, but the room remained half empty throughout our meal. I ordered a mint julep and was served something resembling a bourbon mojito. Last I checked, a mint julep doesn't have lime or club soda in it. Our waitress never read us the specials, so we ordered off the menu. I ordered the tenderloin medallions with onion strings and a béarnaise sauce. Medium rare came out barely pink in the center and the béarnaise was nowhere to be found.when I asked about the béarnaise, I was told a lot of people don't like it, so you need to "ask for it special". When it came, all it tasted of was mustard. Last I checked, béarnaise was essentially egg yolk, butter and lemon juice. No mustard. My companion ordered salmon with a vegetable strudel. The salmon was raw in the middle and the strudel was cold. Needless to say, we skipped dessert. Next time we're in Wolfeboro, we're going back to Mis en Place. read more
