We had a wedding on Friday and as we left everyone was amazing and wished us well, same when we returned that evening. We will be definitely going back for a quick getaway!! So finally I figure out that the hostess is this little old lady that has been cleaning these chairs and tables the whole time. So I wait for her to get done. The waiter that talked to me before goes talks to her and points over at me. She gets done and goes to the other side if the tent and takes two guests to seats. Now I'm like what the heck. So I go to the other side of the tent cause clearly I'm on the wrong side. Then she ignores me on that side! So after about 15 minutes, she comes over and she's very pleasant and sees that I have my reservation and takes me to my table. I'm really not sure what the issue was. It was pretty strange. All the service after that was perfectly normal. And like I said, even after she finally was taking me to my table she was super nice and got me a glass of water. So I got a Maine root beer because it's Maine. I got clam chowder because it's Maine. The clam chowder was excellent. Then I got the haddock sandwich, which was so good. The breading was so light that the fish just fell apart when you bit into the sandwich. Just really well cooked. I used to love when things were heavily breaded, but I think I've gone the total opposite nowadays. There was also live music tonight, which was really fun. Of course the view of Pepperrell Cove is breathtaking, but the real star of the show here is the food. We were able to custom tailor the menu to be exactly what we wanted to serve, and it was all made on-site from fresh ingredients - something that is not easy to find at event venues. My family is Italian, from New York and hard to please when it comes to food, and they were all raving about every single dish that was served. Donna's assistance leading up to the event in coordinating with vendors and her hands-on presence during event night made the process seamless. I didn't have a wedding planner / day-of coordinator, and ended up not needing one - she made everything happen perfectly, even making sure our elderly guests had easy access to their seats. The facility and property has been well maintained. The new ownership and staff working were very outgoing and kind and helpful. I think the lady serving the liquor was part of the ownership or management. Very nice and welcoming. They are going to be showing Hocus Pocus, classic 90s Halloween film this season. Along w Rocky Horror Picture show and other classics from the golden era of film. Horror movies like Halloween or Friday the 13th would be great as well. It's a great and perfect throwback to yesteryear with the layout and how they do things. The owner said they do trivia and Cuban dance lessons among other fun events there. It's really a great find and I wish more towns had these small local joints where it's intimate and fun and a great experience. The burlesque show was awesome. All the woman were attractive and the show was great. My first ever. Looking forward to my next visit at the Strand. A great spot when in Dover to visit.

The last time I went to the Woodman Museum, I was in utero. But I found out today that they have a…read moreteacher discount, so I should have gone again much sooner! There were several highlights but I'll just share a few. First was the room dedicated to our nation's 250th anniversary. This historical tribute renewed my respect in the values upon which the United States was founded. Thomas Jefferson writes about King George: "He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States: for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners: refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither..." Jefferson reminded me that like the Woodman Museum, the country was built on a foundation of open arms. I have to mention the bronze statues of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mounted on granite in a special exhibit dedicated to these lovable heroes. It was an impressive and whimsical display. If there is a movement to make a grand-scale version in a public park in town, sign me up to campaign for that! This would be so cool with a splash pad in the center of it for kiddos. Finally, I have to say how impressed I was with the staff who were friendly, helpful, and incredibly well-versed in the history of the grounds. They answered all my questions with ease in a welcoming Dover style. It was totally gnarly, dude.
