It's a beautiful old building with lots of history, character, and charm. Definitely romantic! The grounds were well maintained and picturesque. We booked our one night reservation on line and checked in with no issues. Our room was located in the second building and the room was bigger than we expected. Lots of character in the room. Old wooden beams on the ceiling, wood floors, etc. Everything worked to perfection and the bed was very comfortable. Our stay was during a heat wave and the air conditioning worked very well. We weren't able to grab a meal because the tavern was closed for a wedding party. We were a bit disappointed with the continental breakfast served to our room in the morning. It consisted on plastic bottles of orange juice, oranges, yogurt, granola, plastic wrapped muffins, and a package of wrapped hard boiled eggs. No coffee or tea. Our room had a Keurig with only two Keurig cups. It would have been great if the Inn had served a hot breakfast in the restaurant but most likely due to Covid, it wasn't possible. On the other hand, it would have been nice to have the Inn partner with a local bakery and serve a basket of fresh muffins, bagels, croissants, hot coffee, etc. The price of the Inn for the night was very reasonable and there was plenty of parking in their private lot. Staff was friendly. Location was very close to downtown Durham, UNH, and a few miles from downtown Newmarket. I certainly understand why this place would be great for a wedding. We already booked a stay for a night on our next visit in mid-August.

We had a small wedding of 46 guests total, and PCC made us feel very welcome and special. Ariel was fantastic in coordinating the day and answering my MANY questions before the wedding and the day of, to make me feel completely confident and comfortable. Luckily, since it was a Friday wedding, we were able to set up most of the decorations ourselves the day before and the staff did a great job of finishing up the setup the day of. I was very pleased with the staff packing up the entire venue at the end of the night and even packing it for us into my parent's vehicle! The venue has beyond amazing photo opportunities with the tree-lined road coming in and the hills and greenery in the back. We did our first look at the adorable stone potting shed out front. The food was delicious and had guests raving about it. We felt confident in the food having gone to PCC's wedding tasting event a few months before. We loved our wedding at the Portsmouth Country Club!

We'll start with the pluses. The room was clean and tidy and generally taken care of. The staff was…read morecheery and cared about their work. The food was neutral which I suppose it was to be to make everyone happy. Eggs, bacon, the same saugage sold in every restaraunt in Southern New Hampshipe, potatoes, cereal, ham carving station, omelette station, and a desert station. Risks taken included a tuna salad thing, quinoa asparagus mess, and another item so unremarkable as to be completely forgotten. Which is what I fear happened to these three items left to die a lonely death on a side table by themselves. There was a stuffed fish which had more stuffing than fish, which is ok if stuffing good. In this case it was a mash of spinach and blech that I did not bother to decipher. The promising looking cinnamon rolls revealed themselves to be impenetrable stones that perhaps were once fresh. This caused me to abandon the entire continental table all together. They did have two items that were different than at other places. There was a Pb&J stuffed French toast with chocolate. The kids loved this. Good job. Their other was lobster Mac & Cheese. No one does this on a buffet and here's why. The animals eating at the buffet picked all the lobster out first. From what I could tell the lobster was not cooked into the cheese sauce, but rather tossed in at the last minute. Which is too bad as the vultures removed all lobster flavor along with the meat. Extreme disappointment set after I needed to sort past 5 dirty dishes before resorting to using bowl. With that many dirty in a row, I suspect someone had fallen asleep or required the services of an eye doctor. Finally, when I go to a place called Country Club I expect my fellow diners to be dressed at least in business causual clothing. This occasion was Easter Brunch, but there were far too many people in jeans and a tee shirt. Granted, it was new tee shirts bought earlier that day at Walmart so I suppose they tried. I'd suggest the PCC begin using a no denim and collared shirt requirement. The good people of coastal NH should not be left up to their own fashion devices.

Sometimes it is the staff and attitude that sets things part, and this is true for this venue. The folks are friendly, accommodating and have the right attitude. I confess. I did something I was not supposed to do. I was a skofflaw, even if by accident. AND I got "caught". My bad. They handled it all with humor and grace and were accommodating. We were laughing about it at the end, and it could easily have gotten ugly elsewhere. Well done!
