The facility and property has been well maintained. The new ownership and staff working were very outgoing and kind and helpful. I think the lady serving the liquor was part of the ownership or management. Very nice and welcoming. They are going to be showing Hocus Pocus, classic 90s Halloween film this season. Along w Rocky Horror Picture show and other classics from the golden era of film. Horror movies like Halloween or Friday the 13th would be great as well. It's a great and perfect throwback to yesteryear with the layout and how they do things. The owner said they do trivia and Cuban dance lessons among other fun events there. It's really a great find and I wish more towns had these small local joints where it's intimate and fun and a great experience. The burlesque show was awesome. All the woman were attractive and the show was great. My first ever. Looking forward to my next visit at the Strand. A great spot when in Dover to visit.

This gorgeous historical site is the perfect bit of peace when we don't want to sit among the…read morenoisy, too-close-for-comfort crowds lining every inch of southern Maine beaches. It's an oasis of green trees, bushes, and grasses dotted with the most beautiful variety of flowers. There's classic statuary, stone walls, an artists cabin, scattered chairs and benches, the stately old home and, of course, marvelous views of the calm Salmon Falls River. If you look closely, you might spot a heron or several turtles coming out of the mud, marching slowly toward the tidal waters as the river's edge fills back in. You can even access Vaughan Woods from a footpath, if you'd like to get a hike in. Of course, you can always bring a blanket, a picnic, and just enjoy the gorgeousness that surrounds you. Bathroom situation: in season there's a wee house-type structure that opens into a single, large bathroom. It appears to be cleaned and stocked regularly.

People who complain about the spa not being connected to the main facility & sauna not being that good are being unreasonable. Ignore the negative comments. This is one of the most beautiful places in New England. I'll keep going back.

We had a small wedding of 46 guests total, and PCC made us feel very welcome and special. Ariel was fantastic in coordinating the day and answering my MANY questions before the wedding and the day of, to make me feel completely confident and comfortable. Luckily, since it was a Friday wedding, we were able to set up most of the decorations ourselves the day before and the staff did a great job of finishing up the setup the day of. I was very pleased with the staff packing up the entire venue at the end of the night and even packing it for us into my parent's vehicle! The venue has beyond amazing photo opportunities with the tree-lined road coming in and the hills and greenery in the back. We did our first look at the adorable stone potting shed out front. The food was delicious and had guests raving about it. We felt confident in the food having gone to PCC's wedding tasting event a few months before. We loved our wedding at the Portsmouth Country Club!

On a short road trip last week up the…read morecoast of Maine with 2 of my daughters, we drove by this place and noticed the large property and lots of stuff (nice stuff) around the main house and other buildings. Out by the street was a simple sign requesting a $5 donation to park and walk around. Not knowing what it was (but real intrigued by it strangeness) I hung a quick U and went back into the driveway and parked. My kids are not too happy! As we approached the front door they are begging to leave as the place gives them the willies. To make matters worse a big wad of keys are still hanging from the front door. Now I have the willies! Being me, I open the door and peer in and to my amazement I see a massive room full of the most traditional cool art and collectibles I've ever seen! High class Americana. We skulk through the first big room because I hear voices coming from an even larger room I can see deeper in this massive old house. As we enter the back room, we find two older men sitting at one of 20+ beautiful early American tables (all surrounded by beautiful chairs). They are holding a small wooden sled and discussing how to repair it. They quickly finish and one leaves and the other introduces himself as Bill Johnson and asks if we'd like a tour of the place. I quickly say yes and that starts the next faze. Bill quickly begins to regale us with story after story about each piece we point out or strikes his fancy: --Nice story about Hermann Goering's cuckoo clock on the wall. --He turns on his player piano, sits down and grabs a very large megaphone, and begins serenading my daughters with a beautiful old tune. --He quizzes us about American historical facts, tells stories, sings, etc. and would have spent the whole day with us had we had the time. Well, I could go on and on about this place...but you gotta see it to believe it. Best $5 tour ever!

Darlene took care of us from the first day we met in December of 2013, right through the very end of our amazing wedding day. She was extremely helpful with suggestions, recommendations and small pointers that really showed her experience in coordinating not only the reception, but also the ceremony. She made our wedding day so seamless, we cannot say enough about how helpful she really was. The venue is classic, yet modern, and so much fun. Our ceremony was on the lawn next to the Union Bluff restaurant and hotel, which overlooks a bustling beach and a light ocean breeze. After the ceremony, our photographer took us across the street to take pictures on the benches, sidewalks, in the arcade, and bowling alley, which was really fun and the pictures came out really nice. The reception afterwards and dinner went perfect! Darlene's staff was polite, funny, fast, and did a great job, even with special requests from our guests. With the great weather we had, the doors to the outside stone patio were opened and the outdoor bar service was available for the guests. The whole wedding went so well and was so much fun, it of course went by too fast. If you're considering having your wedding here, take our word for it - Darlene and the Meeting House staff will make your day easy and will take care of everything for you, allowing you to enjoy your spouse, family, friends, and best of all - your wedding day! People are still talking about how beautiful and fun our wedding was. We are so excited to return to the Union Bluff to see Darlene.

For WEDDING VENUE: When my now husband and I booked this…read morevenue for our 2020 Wedding back in January of 2019, similarly to the rest of the world, we never could have guessed that COVID-19 would hit in 2020 and devastate not only our nation but the whole world! When we met Darlene, the Union Bluff (UB) event Coordinator in 2019, she was wonderful and so was the venue and her suggestions for nearby vendors...however, when COVID struck our dealings with Darlene and the UB quickly became nothing but stressful! We had put down over $5,000 worth of deposits towards our wedding and reception with the UB at this point and our potential guest count limit of 200 was being cut to 50 guests due to COVID Precautions by the State of Maine. We understood these precautions of course, however, what we did not feel was reasonable was that the UB refused to refund any portion of our deposit given the extreme circumstances which were COVID despite the fact that every other couple we spoke with getting married at other venues were able to get their deposit back even though other venues "contracts" say "non-refundable" also...Other venues were being understanding that COVID was not just any typical reason a wedding could have been canceled or changed and for that matter the UB's "contract" says we were allowed to invite 200 guests and now they could not uphold their end of the "contract" either... As 2020 couples we were given 3 options: 1) move your whole wedding to 2021 but also pay 2021 prices, 2) keep your date with COVID restrictions and reduce your price only to the food/beverage minimum per the original contract 3) "keep and move" option keep your current date and if COVID improves have your wedding as planned but book another date later in 2020 or in 2021 (paying 2021 prices) ...all of which offered NO money returned at all that was previously deposited. These were the options no matter how close you were to your wedding date also when the State regulations for COVID were changing almost weekly when COVID was at its worst in April/ May of 2020. My husband and I opted to have our ceremony at the UB since that was our dream and we could not get our money back and have many elderly family members that may not make it to see us get married in 2021 and move our reception to a New Hampshire Venue with more flexibility. All of our interactions with the UB and Darlene after COVID began were stressful and frankly, difficult because they were unreasonable about using money we already paid them towards our wedding, towards our Lawn ceremony needs. I wouldn't wish this on anyone! If you get married here ask them to CHANGE THE CONTRACT! Don't sign for a non-refundable deposit! Good luck!
