rum bread pudding

we were too early for our table reservation but they let us eat at the bar which was pretty empty. I tried the: - portsmouth chowder ($16): it was a bit salty, and too many potatoes compared to clams - rum bread pudding ($13): my fav dish! not too sweet and I liked the flavors - sticky toffee pudding ($13): a bit too sweet, and the bitterness from the butterscotch was quite pronounced

5 Star alert!! We loved this place! Went here for my birthday and will be recommending it for anyone visiting Portsmouth. Note it is on the pricy side!! Atmosphere is cozy and quaint. Very old charm. There are tables inside with a bar and an outside area. Wait staff was nice and attentive. Food was delish! (I didn't take the best pics so don't be concerned by them. What we got and recommend: - mussels - appetizer. They grill them on a cast iron and not in a broth. Different but tasty! - beet salad - must get. It was amazing! - scallops - plentiful dish, with amazing sauces and garnishes. ( you get a lot of scallops too!) - another member at the table got the swordfish and said it was very good. - another member at the table got the pork belly and said it was the best he ever had! Cocktails were also great! Bar knows what they're doing! Overall, I'll be back here. Try it out if you're from Portsmouth or visiting!

Food: The food here was amazing! Everything we ordered tasted so fresh and comforting! The Harvard beet salad was sweet and refreshing. The sea-trout was delicate, and paired so well with the savory potatoes. Service: The service was on the slower end, but we did not mind! Ambiance: The restaurant is so cozy, and quaint! It was a bit smoky on the inside since the kitchen was right in the dining area. You can see the chef hard at work! Overall, a wonderful experience for our first day exploring the east coast!

Wow! Fantastic experience! The service was impeccable, attentive and quick without feeling rushed. The space is very old world, without feeling warm, it is kept up very well. Lots of light, impressive bar and fireplace. Food was very good! Very fresh! And beautifully plated. 10/10 would recommend. (A little pricey- but felt the value)

Consider making a reservation, as this place can get busy. The service was very friendly and polite, and efficient. Our server provided recommendations and we ordered a few things, including the chowder and the beet salad, and the trout. Everything was very good and we enjoyed our experience here. It's a nice spot for a date or celebration. I'd recommend trying it out.

The colonial space was cool and unique. Servers were nice, and the food was delicious. I tried the Wagyu cottage pie, which was warm and comforting. My partner really enjoyed the lemon meringue tartlet.

It was our second time to the Puddle Dock. Unfortunately this was not a stellar experience as was the first time. The food was excellent but service was lacking. There were two servers visiting our table. When we asked one for a wine recommendation, one said she would send the other waitress over with wine tastings. Next thing we know our waitress appears with individual wine carafes and pours my husband and I a full glass of wine each. My husband was ok with his, but mine was a Cabernet, which I did not want. The waitress of course took it away, brought the wine menu and made it right- but I ended up feeling embarrassed by the whole situation. Another annoyance was that we were offered more bread (the bread is very good but thinly sliced) and found out when we got the check that they charged $2 for extra bread. Not sure if I will be going back.

Delightful experience Wednesday night at "The Puddle Dock". Every course outdid the last. The cocktails were expertly crafteted, refreshing, subtle & well balanced. I ordered the chicken which was tender & moist served over heirloom corn porridge (which I was initially a bit hesitant about trying) was subtle, smooth with crisp bits of sweet corn that complimented the entree perfectly. The cinnamon rum bread pudding was the perfect finale. Served warm it was melt in your mouth indulgent accompanied by a lucious rum caramel sauce. Our server Mackayla was the perfect combination of friendly, informative & attentive without being overbearing. It was her first night serving and she knocked it out of the park. For a rookie she was on point. Needless to say I eagerly awaiting our next visit.

Puddle Dock is a beautiful little restaurant in Portsmouth. The minute you walk in, it's warm and inviting, with a big fireplace and all of the wood accents. It's absolutely gorgeous. The hostess took my coat for me which I thought was lovely, and we don't see enough of that. If I'm wearing a short jacket, I don't mind putting it on the back of my chair, but when I'm wearing a longer coat, I hate that it has to drag on the ground if they don't have a coat closet, Everything from the drinks, to the meal, to the service is impeccable. It's a great date night spot or just come for the yummy food. We started with the Yorkshire pudding. I'm a sucker for a perfect popover and this is definitely that. I had the colonial pie of the day which was seafood and my husband had the duck. He said it was some of the best stuff he's ever had. I finished with the Pavlova and my husband had the pumpkin pie special. Both were exceptional. I would highly recommend a visit or 10.. lol.

Second time in. We had 6 for dinner and our waiter David was fantastic. We had several apps for the table. Get the cheese board and the Yorkshire pudding you won't be disappointed. Meals were delicious but my Rib eye was amazing. The deserts were next level as well. Excellent food and time. See next time we roll through Portsmouth

This is an absolutely lovely restaurant with five star service and excellent well prepared food. We ordered the kale ceaser salad, the short rib yorkshire pudding, the mussels and something with lamb that i cannot recall. Everything was so tasty!! The prices are a tad high but overall the meal quality and the service were worth it.

I sat stage right, at table 311 and had a clear view even though it's labels as partial obstructed. The two columns on that side of the room are thin and aren't anything to worry about. I walked the whole venue and the only area where views are truly obstructed are inside the bar area, especially at the ends of the bar. The sound was great. The crowd was engaged but respectful. The food, drinks and service were all top notch as well. If someone you like is playing here, then you're in luck.

The BT ALC Big Band lit up the room with an incredible blend of big band jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop, and the special guest, Nephrok!, brought amazing energy and personality to the stage. Jimmy's offered two great options for the night: a first-floor dinner-and-a-show package, and a third-floor countdown experience with a midnight champagne toast. The atmosphere was festive without feeling crowded, the sound was crystal clear, and the whole evening felt really well organized. Nephrok and the BT ALC Big Band were both outstanding -- tight, lively, and a blast to watch. Altogether, it was one of those nights you don't forget. Jimmy's continues to be one of the best live music venues around.

We visited on Friday night and sat at a table as the bar seating was pretty packed. Crowd was pretty chill - a mixture of people in their 20's having drinks & apps, and then older couples/families enjoying dinner. We were happy to see Smithwicks on the draft menu, and we also got a Downeast cider with a caramel/cinnamon rim. We ordered the house made mozzarella sticks, which were ginormous, crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and all around delicious. We all opted with different types of burgers - sliders, fried chicken, and a pub burger. All were served with fries and were perfectly cooked. The coating on my fried chicken was crispy and flavorful. Service was awesome - our glasses were never left empty! Best of all, Dwyers has a free jukebox packed with favorites. Looking forward to coming back on our next visit to Portsmouth - we'll definitely be trying the deviled eggs, wings, and fried oreos!

I decided to make a reservation to take advantage of their special promotion during Restaurant Week. I made a reservation through Open Table and our table was ready when we arrived. Place is small but tables are well spaced to allow for privacy. We were presented with their restaurant week menu as well as a limited regular menu for add-ons. Our order was taken in a timely manner and with a smile. I started with the coconut carrot ginger soup for my starter. I added a grilled bread basket with butter as it is not included with your meal and I like bread with my soup. The soup was a decent soup and the bread was slight charred in places. As for my main course, I went with the braised short ribs served with polenta and roasted root vegetables. The red wine demi glace was good and the root vegetables were inconsistently roasted as some were a little too hard and some mushy. Short ribs were not consistently seasoned as I got salty in some bites and well seasoned in others. I was disappointed that my short ribs were stringy as well and that was not what I expected. The dessert was an apple tart. The shell was somewhat hard and difficult to cut into with the spoon provided. Flavors were good. My overall experience was that it was just ok but nothing stood out to me as out of the ordinary or special about it. So go if you want to and maybe your experience will be better than mine.
