What I really liked was the amount of seating. There are books and board games around, so it has a relaxed, community sort of atmosphere rather than feeling like a place designed entirely around getting people in and out. There is also outdoor seating, which is a nice option when the weather cooperates. They do a good job incorporating local character into the shop, too. Local artwork and merchandise are available for purchase, and it gives the place more personality than your typical coffee chain. One of the more thoughtful touches is the option to "pay it forward." You can purchase a card or coupon for someone else to use toward whatever you choose to give them. It's a small thing, but I always like seeing businesses find ways to build a little generosity into the experience. As for the coffee, ours was perfectly decent, but I wouldn't say it was the reason I'd make a special trip back. It was good, just not particularly memorable. Sometimes a coffee shop gets everything else right and the coffee itself ends up being almost secondary, and that's probably where I landed with Identity. The atmosphere, seating and overall feel of the place were more impressive to me than what was actually in the cup. Still, if you're walking around Meredith and want somewhere comfortable to sit down, have something to eat or drink, play a board game, browse some local artwork or simply take a break from wandering around town, Identity Coffee is worth checking out. When we got to the smorgasbord, the whipped cream wasn't working/was empty. The workers didn't seem to want to fix it, and once you leave the line you can't re-enter. Pretty disappointing to not be able to get their homemade whipped cream they rave about. For almost $9 for a one scoop make-your-own before tax, it was honestly not a great experience today. We miss the nostalgia of this place - it's becoming more industrialized and less sentimental.
