    French onion soup
    Elizabeth G.

The man from the bookstore across the street recommended this spot for us when we asked him about a "good bite on the water". He did not steer us wrong. We weren't starving but licked our plates clean anyway. We started with the French onion soup (even though it was probably 80° with the sun beating down on us). The soup was phenomenal. My boyfriend got the fish tacos and said they were awesome, he just wished they came with 3 instead of 2. The homemade potato chips were a nice touch on the side. I got the butternut ravioli salad and added grilled chicken to it. This was SO good. The salad was refreshing but also hearty, perfect amount of dressing, fresh ingredients, and seasonal with the ravioli on top. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The outdoor seating overlooking the lake was so relaxing and we overheard the tables next to us talking about how much they and their families love the restaurant as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hannah was our server and was super attentive and nice. One thing to note is we overheard them talking about the restaurant closing after Halloween and reopening in July (I believe). Seems like this is the first time they're doing a lengthy closing, and the locals next to us had no idea, so just call to check that they're open if you're looking to visit!

Went with the girls and it was great! The server was amazing! The machines went down twice when we needed to pay but she quickly got it through before it happened again! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Perfect outdoor setting on the lake made for a wonderful setting to have lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had the cheesesteak and it was so delicious! Others had the quesadillas, which looked amazing as well, and the chicken entree which was super tender and delicious! Would definitely visit again!

Outlook from our table at Garwoods.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Lovely view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Efficient, friendly server (thanks Sarah). Tried something different this time - two appetisers: crabcakes and nachos with guacamole. Both were very good and both gluten free. Could do with a bit more heat like jalapeños in the nachos but flavour was good. Crabcakes stuffed with crab and not filler.

    Great view.

GET A WINDOW SEAT I've been meaning to write this review for awhile. We stopped in at the beginning of the year. Sparsely occupied because of covid. Nicely decorated. Warmly greeted. Seated by the window overlooking Wolfeboro Bay. Trifecta: Great service, tasty food, and great view.

Perfect location. Extremely disappointed sign says "do not feed the ducks" and the waitresses were dumping leftover drinks into the lake. Bizarre. Fish was yummy flavor but overcook & dry. Burger was yummy. Service was blah. Expensive.

Excellent food with great service and atmosphere. The view here is great, looks down the lake with tons of boat traffic.

They once did whole chicken which was pretty perfect outside on the old patio. Pretty much impossible to undercook something you smoked for hours but very easy to dry it out, and it was great. Actually brought the whole fam there that day including our dog. It's petfriendly outside. They have three main beers that you can always get, and then about another 3 beers or so of rotating and experimental beers/ciders. If you want to get an idea of the staff this is from my first visit there a few years back. I actually think this was towards the beginning of Covid. We had to get out of dodge and enjoy some relaxation by the lake. When we showed up everywhere we drove by the spots we normally frequented and everywhere was closed, sometime near 8 pm. We did a search and found that here was open and headed over as fast as we could to try to get something to eat. Unfortunately the grill just closed, and we resigned ourselves to a liquid dinner. The chef then pokes his head out and offers to make a pretzel for us, and we could not have been happier. It was a big one too. The staff was just so welcoming and seemingly very happy that we were there... which is not always the case in the general area... that Burnt Timber became one of our usual spots instantly. Each time we've been back it has always been that way, which is even more rare not just here but back in the Boston area as well. So again if you like smoked and fermented things in an unpretentious atmosphere with very friendly staff I'm pretty sure you'll love this place too

The people at the bar were making fun of others as they came in, making us very uncomfortable. The beer menu was very small. We understand that can happen with a small brewery. We tried one beer and the cider. Both were very light and almost had no distinguishable flavor. My husband's burger was delicious. My nachos, which were cold, had very little topping and arrived well after his burger. The restroom was not very clean and had no toilet paper. We won't go back.

We are Rhode Islanders, and have been coming up here for almost 40 years, and this place holds a dear, sweet place in our heart. I'm going to assume it was the bartender, who was shockingly rude, sarcastic, and disrespectful, to say the very least. Not my first experience with this bartender either. The bartender's and server's at Wolfe's Tavern are absolutely horrible. They have reprehensible attitudes and are colossally rude to customers. I asked for a simple clarification of their operating hours. This man was indignant and impolite, calling me out for bringing a discrepancy to his attention!! Uh..what?! I've been a resident of Wolfeboro, NH, for 70 years. This establishment once stood as the landmark for elegant dining, professional and competent administration and staff, and was respected throughout the Lakes Region. You once had an Executive Chef named "Hoke" many, many years ago...a quintessential gentleman with great culinary expertise, who frequently would come out of the kitchen, go table to table, introduce himself to all the patrons, and ask them if their meals were up to their liking. This man "made" The Wolfeboro Inn, almost singlehandedly. When he resigned because of a difficulty with management, the place plummeted...nearly overnight. Fast forward to August, 2025, and it is now worse than ever. I'd recommend Dunkin' Donuts on Center Street, or The Bay Diner on Main ahead of here. It's no wonder today's bartender refused to give his first name...no doubt fearful of this review(!) or one in The Granite State News, aka "The Grunter."

We always enjoy the setting when we go with friends ... not a huge spot, but we can usually find a table if we plan ahead. The salad appeared to have been dressed with apple sauce mixed with water(!) and nothing else, and the pork chop tasted of ammonia and some other chemical. It was dry and inedible. Took one small bite, even though the smell was entirely off-putting. Tossed in the trash at home. A very expensive experience for what it was. The one star is for the welcoming and amiable wait staff. In spite of the super cold dining room in which we were seated (some of the folks in our party, including me, resorted to wearing coats and hats during the meal to get warm!), they were cheerful and attentive. The cook did come out into the dining room toward the very end of the evening and put the wall-mounted heater on, which took some of the edge off the cold. Lastly, on exiting the building, watch your step! There's a drop of about 2 feet as you approach the door to the parking lot. Anyone with mobility challenges may be unable to navigate this and/or the black ice in the parking lot.

I ordered the lobster dinner - when the lobster arrived, the shell was rock hard and EXTREMELY hard to open. Everyone else was done with their meal, and I was still working on the first claw!. As if that wasn't enough, the corn on the cob was dried out and tasteless - I only took one bite.
