This is a small motel close to Mount Snow, 3 stories. The parking lines aren't clearly drawn out under the snow, and they don't shovel it all of the way (there's a good shovel on the central walkway but sometimes people park there), so sometimes cars are double-parked or tight. Watch the parking lot exit - snow piles up and makes it hard to see folks coming on the road so several near-misses. Check-in on your phone (they text you a form and then send you a code to your door when the room is ready). Doors use a security code to enter the rooms. Desk hours are 9-5p, so if you go down at 4:45p and ask about why your door code doesn't work - and then find out the staff is already gone for the day, that was a problem. The day we checked in, a lot of people had issues with their room (all different reservations from different groups, too), and the staff left early that day. Eventually after texting a number and the hotline for customer service goes to the closed room (no one picks up on the number and there's no central phone line staffed), they get back to you via text - I believe the staffer on duty was apparently in the shower as she came down with wet hair after about 45min of folks getting anxious about what to do, and she had folks take a key to use instead of using the door code. Rooms are small, simple, and have an exit to the long shared balcony areas; good to put food outside and let it chill since there's no room fridge. Lighting is a bit dark, but suffices. TV has no issues, cable channels. Bathroom door opened the wrong way so you can't come into the room and open the bathroom door at the same time. Was clean, though, so that was good. Breakfast on the weekend included bagels, boiled eggs, and yogurt in a small fridge to the side. They also have a coffee machine, so you could get hot water and coffee. Breakfast bars and tea by the coffee station. There was also a water cooler to the side, but the staffer didn't have any water to refill that after it was empty in the first hour we were there... so only hot water for the rest of the long weekend. Hallway had a closet for self-service on the towels and supplies. Another closet at the entry for your skis, boots, and snow board to hang and dry a bit. Shared common room for folks to eat and play games. Downstairs, a little library, fireplace, pool table (needs some repair, had to put some logs into the bottom to avoid losing balls, ripped surface), a bar with plastic cups, a piano that's out of tune, and some card and board games. Good for the kids to run around and enjoy talking loudly away from the rest of the motel, which was good. Outside a hot tub (we didn't use it). Upstairs some seating and fireplace area, too. Overall, value the place for the location, 5 min from the mountain, and it's a motel. Don't expect 24-7 service, and it is convenient to restaurants and other areas nearby. I do not understand the great reviews. Came for one overnight for a fall foliage drive. Pulling in, the motel did not even look like it was open. A random doorway with no signage led to the supposed entrance. Check in and out was via text. Not one person around to answer questions. A sign on the wall stated which rooms were on which floor, that was it. Never saw any public spaces at all. I will say the bed was very comfortable and had a flat screen TV but that's it. Tiny Bathroom with very dim lights. The room looked like a mud brown box, no decoration at all and very ratty old rug. Odd that some things looked good, but others were unfinished. Clean, very basic. All in all it appeared like it was the middle of a hotel flip. Construction, ladders in entrance ways, and workers pounding at 9:30 am. read more

I am not a fan of contactless check-in... spooky pulling in to a remote location and you are the only one there. Plus, if you need something (no hair dryer in your room, which happened to me) you have no recourse. That being said, Rm 311 has a comfy king bed with a nice updated bathroom. We had quiet nite and on our way out I discovered an expresso coffee machine in the non-functioning restaurant for a nice cup of coffee. If you are looking for a nice hotel experience, this is not it. But if you need a room for the nite, this will suffice. read more

I stayed here last weekend, and the hygiene conditions of the hotel rooms are terrible. I was bitten all over by bed bugs, and my body is in terrible condition right now. Do not stay here under any circumstances. I sent them emails and messages letting them know that I was bitten by bed bugs, but they didn't respond to any of my contacts. We spent two nights at the Mountaineer in September (2024). This is after the summer rush, and before the leaf peepers in October or the ski season in winter. Therefore the hotel appeared to only have two rooms rented (another couple besides my wife and me.) Therefore, one would expect that we would get personal attention. I received an email the day before we arrived stating that we needed to check in no earlier than 4 pm and no later than 4:30 pm. Because that's only a 1/2 window for check-in and because both the website AND the confirmation stated a check-in of 3 pm, I sent a text message (per Expedia) to the hotel asking them to clarify. There was no response. When we checked in at 4:20 pm, there was no one at the desk. Our room key was in a basket. We went to the stairs to find our room (first floor) and as we were talking a voice asked if I was Ted R*** and I said I was. The voice from above (apparently not God) said to go down the stairs. I never saw the woman that was later identified as the House Manager. I was very surprised that she did not come down to greet us, give us information about the hotel, tell us about the breakfast or the area, or the code to get into the hotel at night, etc. When we got to the room, there was no soap at the sink. I texted and a bar of soap was delivered. I didn't think too much about that at the time. The next morning as I walked to the breakfast area, the same woman called out (no greeting or welcome) that they were out of plain coffee pods (it was a Keurig coffee maker) and that they "should" have more if I wanted to wait an hour or so for delivery. That was the only source of coffee or drink. They did provide a "breakfast" of a bagel and cream cheese or butter. I'm not sure how you miss you are low or out of coffee pods when it literally is displayed on a rack that holds the pods. I discussed with the General Manager the issues I had faced with the House Manager and that not greeting a guest or giving them information (or not saying "Good Morning" when there are only four total guests in the hote) was not a good look for a hospitality business. He agreed and said that she was "very busy." Things got worse. When we arrived back at the hotel after dinner, both of our key cards had been deactivated and we had to find the General Manager to make new cards. After we got into the room, my wife discovered that there was no spare roll of toilet paper and we were down to our last squares. She placed the box of tissues near the toilet. When we saw the House Manager that second morning (again, no hello or response to our Good Morning), we told her that we were out of toilet paper and I asked if the room should be stocked with at least one extra roll. Her literal response was "When you are out, you are out, and then you should call me." Huh? Call her from the toilet? When I said that there should be extra, she said, "If I forget something, I'm only human." Yes, but she forgot to greet us and tell us about the hotel; she forgot the soap for the sink; when I took a shower, the bottle of shower gel was completely empty and I had to use shampoo as soap; she forgot to stock bath sheets (there was only two hand towels and two wash cloths); she forgot to stock the coffee pops; and she forgot to check if there was extra toilet paper in the bathroom. When does "just being human" turn into incompetent. What justifies such a bad attitude? What justifies being snarly to guests? There was a nice sitting room and the restaurant and outside areas were nice. The place needs a new coat of paint (the paint in our room was peeling). There were no chairs in the room; the only furniture was a bed. Frankly, two stars is very generous. read more

We picked this place for the pool and hot tub. Neither were functioning at the end of June. We were one of two couples staying the two days we were there. The other couple was directly above us so we heard them most of our stay walking around their room. The coffee machine was broken and the sign said that said to use the water cooler for hot water except they didn't have any coffee, only tea. The towels were the size a 5 year old would use and they were course. We never saw any staff. The sign at check in said to contact them if we needed anything other than that they would not clean the room. The second we were there they knocked on the door to clean it. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Mountaineer Inn for the first weekend of ski season in November 2022. We booked because it's closer to the slopes than almost any other option and we were not disappointed. The room was nice, comfortable and very clean. The staff was courteous and professional as well. They cater to skiers with ski storage, hot made to order breakfast before you hit the slopes and a jacuzzi to relax later. The decor was a little dated but that wasn't a real issue and the manager told us the new owners are planning a full refresh of the rooms in April 2022. Can't wait to go back next winter. All in all a nice hotel, almost on the slopes, and a great value. We greatly enjoyed our stay and we're confident you will too. read more

Wonderful Inn. We stayed for one night as we were driving back to NYC. The location is near other restaurants and resort and close to Mt Snow. Very clean inside and the entire inn has a very cool retro ski lodge vibe. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast menu was great and very well priced and we enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant with its large windows. Keep in mind it can be a little noisy in between rooms/floors but it didn't bother us and I think that's to be expected of older buildings. Will certainly stay here again! read more

We spent a couple nights in this charming ski lodge in November 2022. I've never seen a lodge with so many public spaces and so many things available. The sauna and hot tub were the best...and I look forward to returning in the summer to use the pool area. We played pool and some board games. Breakfast was cook to order and was superb. We booked the suite which was lovely to have a microwave and small refrigerator which were very convenient. They are renovating in April so I look forward to seeing how it's going to look! Would highly recommend for a ski vacation or a summer get away. read more

What a night for pounding doors! It began at about 10, when two police SUVs pulled into the parking lot beneath our balcony. One cop came up to our floor, walked quickly down our hallway with the lovely manager and began pounding on a door. A loud drunken voice protested that he just wanted to sleep. The guy in the room was increasingly reluctant to come out. It took about a half hour. They finally got him into the other SUV, watched over by the other cop, who grew increasingly annoyed at the guy's arguing. Eventually, both cars pulled away. The entertainment over, we retired...for about an hour. At midnight, the room next door exploded into a loud TV and raucous laughter. I've had met share of paper-thin walls, but these walls take the gold medal. After an excruciating hour when everything seemed to just get louder, I dressed, went next door and knocked, And knocked. Finally, a woman answered the door. I tried to pleasantly reason with her. "The TV?" she said. "Sure, I'll turn it down," then closed the door. I think she actually turned it up. Then at about 3, all sound stopped. We slept...til about 7, when it all started up again. So the Mountaineer has a great pool, a nice 60s' ski-chalet vibe, and the shower was new. The price was great. Just saying that that night was representative of their usual guest, be forewarned. Maybe it was the moon or something. Until all the activity I was ready to book another night. MOUNTAINEER - DO NOT STAY HERE - AVOID AT ALL COSTS My family has been staying at the Mountaineer for over 50 years and it is beyond sad what has happened to this once lovely inn. There was dirt and food particles under the beds. We found a cup of orange juice (we hope it was orange juice) with a rotten egg in it in the ice bin in our room. A twin mattress in our daughters' room was very lumpy with hard protruding wires and a huge hole making it impossible to sleep on. When we told the manager, Patrick, he did not apologize, only blamed the previous owners. When we asked him if he was aware of how bad the mattress was, he said, "Of course I'm aware. I can't believe no one complained before. I think the previous owners put a cot mattress on the bed." Patrick admitted to being aware of how bad the mattress was, yet he never replaced it. We told him that we switched the mattress with a twin mattress from a bed in our room that we weren't using, and he said, "You'll have to put it back." Unbelievable. This is NOT how a manager or a host should treat their guests. There is no hot breakfast, just a very skimpy and pathetic continental breakfast, even though there is a full commercial kitchen and Patrick loves to boast about how he was a chef. Last time we stayed at the inn, he posted that the "pub" would be serving dinner until 9pm. We planned on eating dinner there and went down to the pub at 8pm only to find they had already stopped serving. When we questioned Patrick, his response was "We had a lot more people show up than we planned so I'm done." Again, no apology nor did he offer to get my daughters anything. This past weekend, we planned to eat at the pub, but again found the kitchen completely dark. When we asked Patrick why it was closed, his response was "I work 110 hours a week so it was either the pub or your room." No apology again, just an inappropriate response which didn't even make sense. We told him that it would have been nice if he had let us know that the pub was closed when we made the reservation or even when we arrived so we could have made reservations at a local restaurant. His response was, "No restaurants up here take reservations." This is not true. Many local restaurants take reservations and it is often difficult to get a table without one. We ended up getting takeout which we brought back to the inn, but they posted signs saying, "Absolutely no outside food in the dining area or pub area" so we were forced to eat dinner in our room. This is supposed to be an inn, not a motel. The rates have gone up with the new ownership, but they've cut services. Patrick told us there is no housekeeping because it's a Vermont state law. Again, not true. When we told him that we needed clean towels, he never gave us any. There was no internet, even though we tried the inn password many times. One of the things we enjoyed about the new ownership is that they are pet friendly. On two separate occasions, Patrick's dog lunged at our golden retriever and tried to attack him. Not exactly the temperament of a dog that should be at an inn with guests. Lastly, Patrick knew one of our daughter's wasn't feeling well so we let them stay in their room while we loaded the car during checkout, about 15 minutes. He went into their room and very aggressively said, "I'm still waiting on you all to leave," and then slammed the door when he left. After the car was fully loaded, we stood at the front desk to return our room keys. Patrick saw us, but never got up from his chair in the office behind the desk, nor did he even acknowledge us. We left our keys on the desk and left. We have never been treated so poorly or with such disrespect. The inn has lost all it's charm due to this manager who is treating guests as if they are intruding and an inconvenience. We rate our stay a 0 and after staying there for over 50 years, we will not be back, at least not until there is new management. read more

Very friendly innkeepers! Right near the slopes! Best deal for the Mt. Snow tough mudder weekend! Easy check-in and check-out. Rooms are a bit small, however, you get what you pay for, and since we weren't going to be spending time in the room, no big deal. The room is a typical ski lodge room, with no TV or a/c. There is a nice common area as well as dining room. We had free breakfast which I didn't really try as I'm not a big breakfast person, but my roomie said it was pretty delicious. This site is very close to the slopes, which was a bonus in my book. I'd stay here again during the winter months. read more

Honestly this place was terrible. A few friends and I booked it for a weekend music festival at mount snow and it was not as advertised. They only allow a max of three people in the rooms when it was advertised for 4 people. The cost was 1090 for Friday to Monday morning for a twin and queen size bed when we were told we were going to get a two queen size beds. The walls were thin so you could literally hear your neighbors next door. They had some ridiculous rules, no talking?! How could you not...it literally was so bad that we ended up forking another $1100 to book another place to stay. The only positive was that it was right near mount snow, we only ended up staying one night out of the 3 nights we booked. read more

The staff / owners at Mountaineering Inn are very sweet and welcoming. The rooms are small but that's okay for people like me who are in town to ride at Mount Snow. They have a place for skis, boards and boots. The breakfast isn't buffet style but the blueberry pancakes felt like home topped with the famous Vermont syrup. This was the coziest Inn I have stayed at near Mt. Snow! The Inn is very quaint and cute. The woman behind the desk was more than helpful, and told us everything we needed to know. The pool and hottub were great as well. Our room was small, but everything we needed! Very clean rooms, and bathrooms. I would have given the Mountaineer 5 stars, but honestly, I don't want it to become to popular. This is my favorite place to stay when I go skiing. The rooms are clean and the place is constantly being updated. This year, they put in brand new flat screens in all the rooms. But if you're looking for what you get inside the room, then you're probably a bit to fussy for this place (or any ski resort in Vermont for that matter). The owners and staff are the friendless people you're ever going to meet. You get one of the best sit down breakfasts of any inn or hotel in the area (most just have a continental breakfast). And if you reserve a spot, they have dinner. Again, excellent food. Well worth it, if you can decide what you want before noon, because you need to order in the morning, so you know everything they make is going to be fresh. If this sounds good, it only gets better. The lounge areas are also some of the best in the area. Upstairs there's a fireplace and piano room with lots of music books. Mid level there's a small library and TV room. And downstairs is the big fireplace room that they hold a Wine and Cheese welcome party every Saturday. And these areas are separate from the rooms, so you can be pretty loud, all night, and you won't bother anybody. The place is like a cross between a Bed and Breakfast and hotel run by your super cool aunt and uncle. The only way you could have a bad time here is if you have an attitude. If you do, please go stay somewhere else. I don't want to run into the next time I stay there. It's not the fanciest hotel. It's not party central. It's not spa service (though they do have a 14 person outdoor hot tub). But it is the best place I've ever stayed in the area. Oh, and the MOOver shuttle bus stops right in front. Cheap, clean rooms located near the slopes, manned by friendly owners with included sit-down breakfast and evening snack. All that being said, there are many reasons to find somewhere else to stay. None of the rooms have telephones (in the ultimate cell phone "dead zone") and few have TVs. While I understand this is common in ski lodges, it still bugs me. The slopes that are so close are on Mt. Snow, a crappy, overcrowded ski resort. You can get dinner right from the inn but there are only a few choices and the $20-25 price tag is astronomical for the dismal food serve. Note: We didn't choose to stay here, my in-laws did after several previous visits. Of course, their biggest priorities are a rustic ambiance and low rate. read more

The place is good for what it is - a low cost option close to Mt. Snow. Went there during Christmas weekend. The price was was attracted us to it. I've been to other low cost options near Mt. Snow, and I think the Mountaineer Inn is probably the better of most low prices options around. Yes - the place is older, but the hospitality put these guys over the edge for me. Super friendly and helpful staff and owners. It included breakfast for free - nothing to write home about, but perfectly acceptable. Had dinner here too - it was ok. I'd probably recommend going somewhere else if your looking for memorable gourmet. The place had a dorm feel to it - people left their room doors open and they had a large rec room with a huge tv, pool table, fireplace and games. Stayed at the Mountaineer back in February and was very satisfied with our experience. The staff is extremely nice and they try to accommodate all their guests. The room was very clean. We could walk to Carintha from the lodge or take the Moover to the base of Mount Snow. The parking is somewhat difficult because it is very small. The mountaineer offers their guests a breakfast with their stay and it is anything but continental. They have a very nice wait staff who greets you in the morning and brings you a coffee and menu with a list of daily options such as Omelets, Pancakes and French Toast. They also have assorted juices, homemade muffins and fruit salad. Was great to have some protein before hitting the mountain. Would recommend this to anyone looking to stay close to the mountain and would definitely book for next year. read more

Boyfriend and I stayed here for the Green Mountain Adventure Challenge in July 2017 and had a great experience! It's a comfortable fusion of traditional ski lodge character with modern amenities. The rooms are small, but who spends much time in them with all there is to do outside? They are clean and comfortable, with a TV and modern bathroom fixtures and shower. The included breakfast was tasty, hot, and made-to-order. Perhaps it was the time of year, but it was quiet and relaxing. No slamming doors or loud talkers like I've seen in other reviews. We enjoyed the sunsets drinking wine on the deck, or floating in the heated outdoor pool and hot tub. We ended our nights lounging in the basement watching the giant TV and chatting with the friendly, attentive, and easy-going owners, who are the best part of this place. They offered recommendations of local favorites, warned us of road closures, and engaged in the right amount of entertaining evening conversation. Second time staying at this Inn. This place would be so much better if it wasn't so darn loud!!!!!! We we're on the 2nd floor and you can hear all the foot steps and noise from the rooms on the 3rd floor! Unable to sleep or stay asleep due to all the creaks and cracks from the 3rd floor. We stayed at the Mountaineer Inn for one night in July 2018 while attending the Rock the Roots Festival at MT. Snow. I was able to reserve the room before they all sold out. The location was a 5 minute walk to the festival grounds which was awesome. The inn looked like a motel at first glance. Parking was pretty limited, but there was an offer to park on a side driveway if we wanted once we came back from eating out and our spot was taken. The woman at the front desk was extremely pleasant. The check in process was easy. There is a pool and hot tub on premise and the grounds are very nice if you wanted to explore the property. We walked up the stairs to our room. I do not believe there is an elevator. Our room was the first one on the right which gave us the corner deck area which was nice! There were 2 chairs on the deck area overlooking the driveway /road. Perfect spot to relax after a long day at a festival! The inn was quiet considering it was sold out with a ton of reggae music loving individuals. The room was clean and updated. The fan/air conditioner was amazing and very high tech! The bathroom was very cute and quaint with an update. The gentleman at the desk at night time was very pleasant as well and pointed us in the direction of a vending machine for snacks. In the morning there was a free breakfast, but no one came over to us and we wanted basically everything on the menu, but what you could order was pretty limited. We ended up going to a lovely diner down the road. I think everyone had that idea! Overall I recommend this inn if you are attending any events or participating in any winter activities at Mount snow. read more

I will start off with the positives: The Mountaineer Inn was right near Mount Snow. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly. The hot tub is enormous and can comfortably fit at least 10 people. The game room was large and a great place to gather to watch TV with a large fireplace in one wall and a bar area with glasses that may be used (this place is BYOB but has a fridge where you can store food and alcohol). Now for the downside: The rooms are very small and the queen size beds are on a metal frame that's very similar to ones found in a college dorm room. The walls are also very thin so you can hear people walking and talking in the hallways. I thought it'd be fine for the evening and it was until about 6 or 7 am when people decided it was appropriate to start slamming doors all up an down the hallways. It may not have been done intentionally but we were considerate enough to close the doors softly when we were up late the night before but that was not a consideration of our fellow guests. All in all, the inn was ok. If you're looking for a place just to sleep with very kind staff, then this is probably the type of place you're looking for. However, do not expect anything fancy even though the price is equivalent to a place with more bells and whistles. read more
