For the 2nd time in a couple of years I stayed at the Upper Pass Lodge as part of a ski trip. Located at the base of Magic Mountain in Londonderry, Vt. it is conveniently about halfway between Okemo and Mount Snow where we had planned to ski on the Epic Pass. Upper Pass is a very nice ski lodge with a nice Vermont feel. The room was spacious and clean and in addition to the main bedroom there was a smaller bedroom with bunk beds and a sink. The decor was nice without being overbearing. Plenty of room, good TV, a desk and couple of comfortable beds. The bathroom was fine with a good shower. There was a small coffee maker in the room and they also stocked the room with some breakfast bars. The rooms do not have a refrigerator or microwave. In the lobby of the lodge is the Red Slate restaurant and bar which are not open on Monday or Tuesday. There is also a nice living room with a fireplace, couches and lots of games. Upper Pass Lodge is an excellent option if you are looking to stay in the Londonderry area. The lodge is welcoming and friendly, it has a great feel as an independent hotel, plus on the times I have stayed it has offered outstanding value for lodging on a Vermont ski trip. Okemo is about 1/2 hour away and Mount Snow is a bit further. The Upper Pass Lodge does hospitality right. read more

In Londonderry VT we stayed here for a weekend in March to ski at Magic Mountain. It is walking distance to the mountain, it is clean, the on site restaurant and bar are awesome, great food, and the staff is very friendly. The downside is it extremely loud, we stayed on the first floor, the people above us, we heard every step, like the floor makes cracking noises. It is dog friendly, nice, but when someone leaves their dog at 8am and it barks incessantly, not cool. An update of the pillows would also be nice. read more

I booked here for me and my son over the holidays only to find out that they refuse check ins after 8 pm! Didn't know this 'til we were driving up that night - still 2 hours away, eta 10:30 pm - and was told over the phone that they weren't going to let me check in! "You can come for breakfast tomorrow at 8 am," is what Vince told me. Seriously? And just sleep in the car with my boy? Who treats travelers from out of town this way? Had to book another place from the side of the road. Even after when I emailed him, Vince was still indignant. I get that they're a small property and I don't want to jeopardize the workers there, but this was beyond the pale. Never written a 1 star review before but I couldn't let this go. Beware. read more

Can't believe I haven't rated this place before!!! I started going here when I moved to Vermont in 2018. The owner is awesome, the staff is great, AND there's a restaurant inside. Centrally located to our "day trips" this was the affordable dog friendly choice for us. Quiet location far from main road. Nice backyard for playing with dogs. Hotel is dated and our room had some issues. Nothing huge but should be addressed. Comfortable beds. 2nd bedroom with children's bunks. Large deck off front bedroom. Great water pressure in shower. HOT water. No a/c. Bring a heavy duty fan in summer. Inn keeper was always friendly and helpful. Occasionally noisy with neighbors slamming doors but it was more random than continuous. Overall we both enjoyed it very much. It was perfect for our needs. Look forward to our next stay. Recommended Fantastic complimentary coffee & muffins in morning. read more

This is a beautiful lodge at an iconic mountain. I had a clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was delicious and inexpensive. Vince makes great french toast. Vince (the Innkeeper) reached out to me personally after a one night stay in May 2019 that was less than optimal and he personally offered to make amends if/when I was in the area again. Business brought me back to Vermont in June so I decided to give the hotel a second chance and booked a one night stay. Boy, is Vince a man his word! He personally greeted my (by name) upon arrival and ensured my room scored high with my two room priorities: cleanliness and tranquility. The room was scrupulously clean and comfortably spacious. It even had a private outdoor deck overlooking the woods. I opted to eat dinner in the hotel's own restaurant and found the staff to be welcoming and attentive. The menu selection was extensive, fairly priced and offered items ranging from steak, pasta and seafood dishes. The cosy bar offering a wide range of cocktails and a nice selection of Vermont artisanal beers cheerfully served up by Vince. The "Beer/Burger menu Special" that night proved to be a winner in both taste and presentation. I opted for a local micro brew Switchback Ale with my impressively-sized Black Angus Burger, topped with Vermont Cheddar and sauteed mushrooms. a truly perfect end to the day. Thank you, Vince. Ok...jacuzzi 3 feet away from your bed? Yes please! We came on a living social deal and it was SO worth it for our mid-week get-a-way. The hotel is not super fancy- BUT very warm and homey. (nice lounge area with books to read, a bar, nice restaurant area) We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms with a jacuzzi- who cares how fancy the room is when you have a JACUZZI. Perfect. Food wonderful (spicy maple chicken wings yum) Picnic lunches- love the care of this place! Vince, our get-away coordinator/waiter/receptionist...everything extraordinaire took wonderful care of us. We like places that offer good customer service that doesn't seem forced, but just a part of what the establishment stands for. Vince went out of his way to make sure every little detail of our stay was taken care of: from the way we wanted our picnic lunch packed to putting our left-over dinner in the kitchen fridge (SHOOT WE FORGOT IT! darn..) since our room did not have one. We must be the luckiest people on earth. This was supposed to be a "random stop" halfway from our Ohio home to our Maine vacation. We aren't to Maine yet, but I'm pretty sure this place will be the highlight of our Vaca. From the Vermont drink selection to the pet butterfly my daughter found in the parking lot, this place is about as charming as it gets. The owner is rejuvenating the hotel after a previous owner neglected to - so if you are looking for Hilton-esque perfection, go to a Hilton. I loved seeing the place as the renovation took place - new wood and old wood collide at every nook. There is a LOT of pride in ownership evident here, and the mark of a true craftsman. Also loved the menu. Local recipes and comfort classics by night, and a full, freshly prepared brekky in the morning. Ain't nobody got time fo dat continental on Vaca. Dear lord, am I a fan of the Vermont maple whiskey ball. I left feeling proud to have supported this small business. read more

My partner and I stayed here over Memorial Day Weekend at Upper Pass Lodge through a Living Social deal. The lodge is located right at the foot of the Magic Mountain surrounded by a beautiful scenery. We arrived pretty late (about 11:30 pm) on a Friday night and were accommodated for a late check in. The lodge itself has a rustic feel and although rooms can use a bit of an updating, the overall feel of the place was just terrific. Nice enough rooms with a great jacuzzi tub ! The hospitality of Vince the general manager/the owner was absolutely impeccable and nothing like i have ever seen at any of the luxury ultra expensive hotels anywhere else. His kindness, willingness to accommodate and just overall making you feel like you are the guest at his own home were terrific! One of the mornings we have overslept the breakfast by over an hour and a half and Vince was so nice, he cooked us breakfast without even saying anything! The food at the lodge was really great as well. We had breakfast there 3 days in a row which was a part of our Living Social deal (which was a complete bargain by the way!). The menu is quiet simple, but is delicious. Also, i have gluten allergies and let Vince know ahead of time about that and he was so gracious to pick me up some gluten free bread for the mornings and also made me a GF french toast which wasn't even on the menu as per my request ! Wow! I never seen any general manager being so nice and accommodating! We also had a dinner there on one of the nights and the food was really good as well. All the food that is served at the UPL is all farm to table which is terrific. The lodge itself is conveniently located and is so close to great local shops , restaurants (Solo and Garden cafe are a MUST ) and beautiful lakes and parks to visit! WE could not be any happier with our stay at Upper Pass Lodge in Londonderry! We stayed at the Upper Pass Lodge for a weekend as the seasons were changing from fall to winter, and while the weather and scenery weren't ideal (already cold, not leafy anymore, and not quite snowy yet), it made for a very nice, relaxing time. The draw for us was that the Upper Pass is truly pet friendly. We adopted a dog earlier this year, and as we were considering places to bring our little buddy for a weekend getaway, a lot of hotels we looked at had long lists of arbitrary rules for pets and their owners that scared us away. Not the Upper Pass Lodge - the staff made us all feel welcome, and the entire place was just warm and full of charm. The hotel isn't the fanciest, but our rooms were clean and comfortable, and we felt right at home. We had a LivingSocial for two nights, which made our stay a steal. Along with the room, we got a delicious hot breakfast to order every morning at the hotel restaurant, a cheese plate with two glasses of wine at the bar, and a thoughtfully curated picnic lunch. Vince the hotel manager was very helpful and accommodating during our stay. He suggested that we enjoy our lunch at the nearby Lowell Lake, and even though it was cold, it made for a great afternoon excursion. The Upper Pass Lodge is located in a great area on Magic Mountain with lots of places to explore nearby. A group of locals joined us at the bar one night, and they were all extremely down to earth and friendly, which is how you could describe the entire area. The hotel restaurant and bar serve only Vermont spirits, and many of the menu items are also locally sourced, so it was kind of an adventure every time we sat down for a drink or bite to eat. We stayed here for four days in February 2018. It was a well maintained vintage ski hotel. My parents, my girlfriend and myself all shared the family suite. Vince was very helpful in getting us booked on Friday night when he had a last minute cancellation. The salmon and steak was of very high quality and delicious. Wow, what a weekend. I spent a long 4 day weekend at The Upper Pass Lodge at Magic Mountain with several friends. Several might be a bit misleading being that we had 15 adults and at least as many kids. With or without a group, the Lodge is everything you want in Vermont accommodations, including Vince, The Man in charge of it. We felt very welcomed from the moment we arrived to the time we left. The lodge has nice rooms, a great common room/living room with leather sofas and a big fireplace, as well as a good restaurant. There was really no reason to leave other than for the skiing. It's been 30 years since I started skiing Vermont and never discovered this little gem of an area until now, and it's become an instant favorite. I'm hoping for a return visit this winter as well as a trip up in warm weather. I rarely give such favorable reviews but this place deserves it. Thanks for the great time, Vince. read more

I found this place on Yelp while having a few beers at the Black Line Tavern, and decided to leave the bar to give it a shot. I love Magic Mountain and the old school vibe around the mountain and Londonderry, so I wasn't expecting a meal that would blow me away like this meal did. We had the cheese plate, the gnocchi, the salmon, and the bread pudding for desert. The gnocchi was homemade, and the marinara was one of the best red sauces I have ever had. The real highlight was the bread pudding- it had the consistency of a roasted marshmellow. I've never had anything like it. The wait staff and general manager (Vince) were fantastic, and the ambiance is great. I would have been happy with just about any restaurant after a great day of skiing, but this place would be one of the better restaurants in a big city, much less Magic Mountain. read more

It was our first trip to Vermont, and the innkeeper, Vince, was very helpful with our accommodations, our dining experience and in directing us to area attractions. Our room was very comfortable, spacious, clean and quiet. Great shower, too! The on-site restaurant was incredible - one of the best meals I've ever had! My boyfriend and I were looking to get away for a few days, and the Upper Pass Lodge proved to be the best possible place to do that! We found out about the Upper Pass Lodge from Living Social, where we scored a really great deal. It was a low price for a two night stay, and it came with a bottle of wine and a picnic a gratis, so we figured we'd give it a try! We got there at 9 pm, and were greeted by Sharee, who I believe was the manager. She was quick, helpful and polite, and even offered to open the kitchen for us to grab dinner. The room was very clean and spacious. The decorations are a bit outdated, if you care about that sort of thing, which we do not, but everything was very well taken care of. We upgraded to get a room with a King sized bed and a Jacuzzi tub, which was AWESOME, and super reasonably priced, so do that if you can. The next day we went to breakfast, and Sharee was serving. It was delicious and enormous. I inquired about our picnic, and she informed me that they could have it ready in ten minutes. Wow. In total, we had three meals from the restaurant, all of which were creative, large, and delicious. My boyfriend is insisting that I especially sing the praises of the spicy maple chicken wings, which like Zack G's review stated, were unreal. They have a new dessert on the menu as well--fried noodles with maple syrup and powered sugar, topped with ice cream. Believe me, the diabetic shock is well-worth it. Overall, we had a fantastic stay. The customer service was perfect; Vince was friendly, the chef was great, Sharee was accommodating, and we felt like VIP the whole time we were there, which was so kind of them given the low price we paid from the start. My fiancé and I booked a trip to Magic Mountain the day after Christmas. We loved this place. It was secluded in a nice little town in mid-state Vermont. The staff was very nice, helpful, courteous, and simply enough, nothing short of amazing. The resort was very Rustic and in some ways a bit outdated, mainly because it was just re-opened, after being closed for 6 years. So it's still in the rejuvenation process. Regardless, I absolutely loved this place. One thing everyone should know is that they just finished a new multi-guest room. It's awesome! Great for families or groups of friends in parties of 5-8. 4 beds, 1 couch, 1 cot. Can also use air mattresses. One night we had dinner downstairs. We ending up enjoying ourselves so much, we left 2 and a half hours later. Be sure to try the maple syrup and hot sauce wings. Best I've ever had, and I don't usually like wings. All of our food was fresh and tasted great as well. The only downfall, which was no fault of the resort, was the lack of snowfall and warmer than usual temperatures the week leading up to our mini trip. So only one trail was open on the Mountain. We had fun either way, but wanted to explore the entire mountain. We will be back later the season :). read more

My girlfriend and I just got back from a 4 day stay at the Upper Pass Lodge. I purchased a Groupon for 2 nights, but decided to book a 3 night since we were coming from Philadelphia, PA and had a long commute and didn't want to feel like we were only truly there for a day and a half. We are so happy we went and bought a third night!!! We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was! The manager, Vince, was the best!! He was so helpful with everything. He gave us good advice on where to go and what to do. And on top of being able to answer all our questions, he made us feel so welcome. We had a blast! We will definitely go back. I would recommend staying here. You will be pleasantly surprised at how nice it is. From the lounge area with a great big fireplace to the bar area to the dining room - just perfect! Check it out. My family fell in love with Magic Mtn. three years ago. We have stayed at Upper Pass Lodge each of those times and the place just gets better! VINCE, the manager, is the BEST!! He will make you feel welcome and appreciated, crack a joke and accommodate you at every turn. He also tends the in-house bar in the evenings and pours a great drink and/or draught beer. The restaurant inside the hotel, Red Slate, serves great breakfast and dinner. We had an amazing meal with 17 adults and everyone happy and impressed. Will you be swept off your feet by amenities and luxury? No, but if that is what you are expecting you are in the wrong place. The Upper Pass Lodge will make you feel like family, happy to have visited and sad to leave. A+++ read more

Can't actually speak to what it must be like to stay here during the busy ski season, but we stayed for 2 days in the summer and had a very pleasant experience. The room was small, but for the unbeatable price, I really expected dirty carpets, stained sheets, mold, and bed bugs. Not the case at all. Very clean and housekeeping kept the bed made and towels and toiletries replenished. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed on the 2 days we stayed (Mon-Tue), but it looked very nice. There was plenty nearby to find dinner. The coffee and muffins in the morning were great. The innkeeper/manager was cordial and helpful. All-in-all, I don't have a bad thing to say about it. For a "nothing too fancy" lodging, I feel like we got more than our money's worth. My only warning to summer lodgers is there is no AC. Usually that's no biggie, but we happened to stay during a heat wave. There was a pool, but we never ended up making it there with all of the sight-seeing we had planned. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Upper Pass Lodge in 2014. I just recently made a yelp account, over three years have passed and the experience was so terrible that I have to write about it. ( Note: this is the only review I have given with less than 4 stars.) We purchased a Living Social voucher to stay at the Lodge for two nights at a great price. We were really looking forward to this visit. Knowing that we were arriving late to the Lodge, we called ahead and informed Vince of our intended arrival time of 11:00 pm, because of our drive from Boston. Vince told us that our arrival time was fine, but when we arrived to the Lodge, he proceeded to lecture us. He told us that because the Lodge was so small, our late arrival meant that he had to stay up late as well. We reminded him that we had called ahead, to which he responded that we should be more considerate and not arrive so late. Perhaps it was because of our young age (we were in our early twenties), but he felt free to treat us condescendingly. Caught off guard, we remained polite even after his unwarranted lecture. My girlfriend started to look upset, to which Vince responded by offering us whiskey shots out of dusty shot glasses and telling her (again condescendingly) that it was fine. He was exceptionally unprofessional. We had never been treated like that before by a business owner, and have not had a comparable experience since then. Because of the late hour we decided to stay the night but left first thing in the morning. Even though our voucher had been for two nights, and we could not be refunded, we decided to give up the cost and stay in Burlington instead. read more
