From the street it looked like a charming New England B&B and there are plenty of those in the area. What sets this particular one apart, in my opinion, are the following: * At the back of this charming home is a beautifully crafted, lush garden with a hammock and benches placed in strategic nooks designed for optimal book-reading or daydreaming. At the top of the small hill is a pergola -- for more daydreaming, or if you are a bride-to-be looking for a romantic venue, this tops the cake. * The added bonus: you get your own entrance to a walking trail (please see picture below) that connects to a network of trails. It's beautiful now in the the summer time. I imagined how much more beautiful it will be in autumn. I must come back. * The breakfasts are to die for!! Imaginative and definitely gourmet. BTW, I had stayed in some expensive hotels before (the Four Seasons, etc.) -- in my opinion, this B&B's breakfast is better. Way, way better. On my first day, the second course was freshly-baked frittata with a side of steamed kale and zucchini -- picked from their garden. The cheese had just the right gooey to it, and the eggs were fluffy. Day 2: French-toasted croissant filled with creamy custard and drizzled with maple-orange syrup. Yum! * The Owner, Lynn is a wonderful person who had lived in Brattleboro for a very long time and knows its ins and outs -- from where to get great cheese to Brattleboro's unique home architectures. Engaging when a guest needed help and wonderfully welcoming. Yet, I always felt I had my privacy. She has mastered how to be a great host. BTW, the rooms are clean and well kept with a touch of history and modern amenities -- for example: I had a double shower head (a rain shower and a handheld). One last thing: In a hotel or an Airbnb, I always felt unsafe -- locked and double locked. In contrast, in the three days that I stayed here, I left my windows open at night to feel the cool evening breezes from the garden, and during the day, I left my door unlocked while I ate breakfast at the dining room. Priceless. I would come back for the breakfast, or the garden and walking trails, or the wonderfully warm, welcoming atmosphere -- better still, get all three. This one is definitely worth going back to again and again whenever I find myself looking for a great place to stay in Vermont. Highly recommended!

It is not a 5 star hotel by any means, but look beyond that at it is lovely. There was a group up and walking around late at night, but we just plan to be at the end of a hall maybe next time. It is what it is. My daughter ended up getting ill the 2nd day of our trip. Out of respect for the staff and the absolute horror of the situation, I cleaned much of our room up. They were very accommodating providing supplies. They told us not to worry about it, but there was no way. Getting there proved a bit challenging when Google Maps routed us on State Route 121 which has some unpaved sections; luckily going back was easier using Route 35 to Route 11. Arriving at Grafton the first impression was of a classic New England Inn with a welcoming glow on a cold winter night. Entering through the B&B lobby had a great warm and comfortable feeling. The feeling of history is reflected in sign over the front desk showing the many prominent guests who have stayed over the years. The restaurant is classy, burgundy-colored walls with white trim and classic fixtures; a wonderful upscale dining room without being stuffy. They even had live music with a guitarist playing soft rock. Our server was very nice, professional and attentive. The menu combines classics and some interesting touches, I ordered the Bouillabaisse and my friend ordered the Caesar Salad and Chicken Wings. Our food came out quickly. The Caesar salad was huge, the wings were tasty and a generous portion. My Bouillabaisse was excellent a nice tomato and fennel broth loaded expertly prepared scallops, shrimp, mussels and a large fish fillet. The highlight were the large sweet perfectly seared scallops, but all of the seafood were delicious. For me this was a Pescetarian dream dish. We were persuaded to order dessert my friend got the Apple Pie and I got the Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie topped with vanilla ice cream. Both desserts were sweet and satisfying, a great way to end a wonderful meal. I would strongly recommend having dinner at the Grafton Inn, the food, service and atmosphere are great, prices are reasonable for what you get. This was a perfect way to top off our ski trip with a superior culinary experience.

It dates back to 1801- and has old world charm with some nice updates as well. We attended a wedding here- but were able to check out the food from the Phelps Barn Pub- excellent!- and had a delightful breakfast at the Inn. The breakfast was a buffet with eggs, pancakes, French toast, biscuits and sausage gravy, bacon, sausage, fruit and more. Yummy! The rooms and the rest of the Inn have a historic feel. But they provide good WiFi throughout to keep you connected. The bed was a king- I slept like a baby! We will have to come back to check out more of the facility. It is close to the ski areas of Magic Mountain and Bromley. Great service by all the front desk and servers too. Highly recommended!

The attention to detail in the room and the Inn made for a nice relaxing weekend. The room had a jetted tub, fireplace, outside private deck and super comfy bed. The linens and pillows were soft like clouds. The personal touches like the robes or make-up face cloths were those little unexpected things you appreciate. The owners Ariana and Scott were so gracious and accommodating. Josie their pup was friendly especially during breakfast. :) I have food restrictions and they were able to accommodate all of them. The breakfast was delicious homemade everything...cinnamon chips scones, omelets, bacon, coffee and tea etc. YUM!! Did I say how immaculate the room and common areas in the Inn? By far the cleanest and most organized B&B I've ever stayed at and I have been to a lot. The location is perfect for people wanting adventure or just a nice relaxing day or both. When you first walk in there a the smell of pine trees and warm fireplace. Ariiane and Scott were very welcoming. We stayed in the Evergreen room which had a fireplace in the room and jetted tub which was much needed after a day of skiing. My only complaint was the pillows were not so comfortable. They had complementary bottled water cookies and coffee in the room. Very clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was very good and their dog Josie greeted us daily. We loved it and we'll be back soon!!

You are familiar with the phrase "put lipstick on a pig?" Sometimes you end up with a beautiful…read morepig, actually. Such is the case with the Brittany, which is an old-school 10-room motor lodge of the type that used to be operated as a Ma-and-Pa business by owners who lived above the office and did all the work themselves. Many of these hotels have disappeared, most that remain are of somewhat questionable quality. Not so the Brittany: it has been reasonably spruced up and operated on a streamlined basis, such that (seriously, to my surprise) I had a better two-day stay than I had at the last two Hampton Inns I've stayed at. As noted, this is a self-service motel (it's so lo-fi, I'm tempted to call it a lo-tel) where you get a text with your room code and number and you let yourself in. The rooms are basic but comfortable (this may be the only hotel I've ever stayed at that didn't have "hotel art" on the walls, which was honestly kind of a pleasant change of pace). There is a breakfast room of sorts -- "The Gathering Place" -- which is a converted former room that has a cold a la carte self-serve selection of things. (The hotel is refreshed mysteriously while guests are out and about; I was up at 5 AM and the coffee, according to the machine, had been made nine minutes earlier, but I never even saw an extra car in the parking lot. Stealthy!) I wish the Gathering Place had been open a bit later than it was, as I wanted to play one of the games I had spotted at breakfast, but using Elf labor probably requires they lock it up a bit earlier. Similarly, there's a nice fire pit with a mountain view and adirondack chairs out front, but it's a mystery as to how one might use the fire pit without logs and such available. (BYO Duraflame?) The setting is quite peaceful, and while I could hear stirrings from the room adjacent -- there's only so much you can do with old construction to soundproof it -- the other occupants were quite quiet. Around you is a whole lot of nothing, although it's just a few minutes south of Manchester center, so getting provisions is easy. No microwaves in the rooms, but there's a mini-fridge, stocked with some complimentary water. The TV was also the tiniest screen I've seen in a room since CRT TVs went by the wayside, but all I wanted to watch was the Red Sox game, and they had NESN, so I soldiered on. There are a few other nits I could pick, but the old-school full-sized bathtub was a pleasant surprise and a big upgrade over all the identical awful shower-only bathrooms in almost every hotel around these days, so I will gloss over those nits. One particular kudos on the amenities: there was herb tea with the self-serve coffee! THANK YOU! It's appreciated by those of us who like a nice tisane before going to sleep. So this isn't a five-star hotel like the Four Seasons, but it's a five star motel within its class - decent value for the money, well-operated, quiet. The quiet part is all I really want from a hotel stay (that and having a door that locks correctly) and the lovely surroundings and the very very low key breakfast were big plusses.

The Inn at Quail Run was the perfect solution. The Inn itself has everything including a beautiful heated pool, hot tub, large game room, 11 large and comfortable bedrooms all with full baths, a wet bar, bbq facilities, huge patio, a couple of reading rooms/dens and a large commercial kitchen to use.. Whats not to love! The owners are wonderful to work with and there is much to see and do in the surrounding area. It was the perfect place and everyone had a great time!

The rooms are clean and the place is constantly being updated. This year, they put in brand new flat screens in all the rooms. But if you're looking for what you get inside the room, then you're probably a bit to fussy for this place (or any ski resort in Vermont for that matter). The owners and staff are the friendless people you're ever going to meet. You get one of the best sit down breakfasts of any inn or hotel in the area (most just have a continental breakfast). And if you reserve a spot, they have dinner. Again, excellent food. Well worth it, if you can decide what you want before noon, because you need to order in the morning, so you know everything they make is going to be fresh. If this sounds good, it only gets better. The lounge areas are also some of the best in the area. Upstairs there's a fireplace and piano room with lots of music books. Mid level there's a small library and TV room. And downstairs is the big fireplace room that they hold a Wine and Cheese welcome party every Saturday. And these areas are separate from the rooms, so you can be pretty loud, all night, and you won't bother anybody. The place is like a cross between a Bed and Breakfast and hotel run by your super cool aunt and uncle. The only way you could have a bad time here is if you have an attitude. If you do, please go stay somewhere else. I don't want to run into the next time I stay there. It's not the fanciest hotel. It's not party central. It's not spa service (though they do have a 14 person outdoor hot tub). But it is the best place I've ever stayed in the area. Oh, and the MOOver shuttle bus stops right in front. And the Snow Barn is within walking distance.

This is a small motel close to Mount Snow, 3 stories. The parking lines aren't clearly drawn out…read moreunder the snow, and they don't shovel it all of the way (there's a good shovel on the central walkway but sometimes people park there), so sometimes cars are double-parked or tight. Watch the parking lot exit - snow piles up and makes it hard to see folks coming on the road so several near-misses. Check-in on your phone (they text you a form and then send you a code to your door when the room is ready). Doors use a security code to enter the rooms. Desk hours are 9-5p, so if you go down at 4:45p and ask about why your door code doesn't work - and then find out the staff is already gone for the day, that was a problem. The day we checked in, a lot of people had issues with their room (all different reservations from different groups, too), and the staff left early that day. Eventually after texting a number and the hotline for customer service goes to the closed room (no one picks up on the number and there's no central phone line staffed), they get back to you via text - I believe the staffer on duty was apparently in the shower as she came down with wet hair after about 45min of folks getting anxious about what to do, and she had folks take a key to use instead of using the door code. Rooms are small, simple, and have an exit to the long shared balcony areas; good to put food outside and let it chill since there's no room fridge. Lighting is a bit dark, but suffices. TV has no issues, cable channels. Bathroom door opened the wrong way so you can't come into the room and open the bathroom door at the same time. Was clean, though, so that was good. Breakfast on the weekend included bagels, boiled eggs, and yogurt in a small fridge to the side. They also have a coffee machine, so you could get hot water and coffee. Breakfast bars and tea by the coffee station. There was also a water cooler to the side, but the staffer didn't have any water to refill that after it was empty in the first hour we were there... so only hot water for the rest of the long weekend. Hallway had a closet for self-service on the towels and supplies. Another closet at the entry for your skis, boots, and snow board to hang and dry a bit. Shared common room for folks to eat and play games. Downstairs, a little library, fireplace, pool table (needs some repair, had to put some logs into the bottom to avoid losing balls, ripped surface), a bar with plastic cups, a piano that's out of tune, and some card and board games. Good for the kids to run around and enjoy talking loudly away from the rest of the motel, which was good. Outside a hot tub (we didn't use it). Upstairs some seating and fireplace area, too. Overall, value the place for the location, 5 min from the mountain, and it's a motel. Don't expect 24-7 service, and it is convenient to restaurants and other areas nearby. Shuttle stops by to get to the mountain, too.
