I have stayed here for a long weekend in August for almost 10 years straight and once in October. The first time we came with our 23 foot trailer which we parked near the barn- most lodges up here wouldn't have had the space for us to park it. We continued on our vacation after my husband's music workshops. Yes the furniture is old but it isn't falling apart. I've been down the hallway and did not notice any creaking floor boards. The pool is nice on hot days! Breakfast is good and hot. You get to meet other guests and find out more adventures you can do in the area. Lots of comments about the quiet hours and 10 pm closing of common areas- note that the signs say -in respect to families with small children-which are often there. It would be nice if people would realize this area is also right near the hosts home and if they are getting up early to make your breakfast...I'd like them well rested. In the summertime I noticed many places are closed around here by 10 anyway. (Probably not in January)! I was thrilled when they got the hot tub - there's even heated mats on the walk to the tub. Turns out people have gotten a bit too destructive out there so there's a lock on it now too. This time I brought my bike with me and locked it up at the barn. If you are lucky at breakfast you might watch one of the neighborhood bears get some blackberries from the edge of the property. Caroline and Steve know the area and businesses well and are very helpful. And they are great story tellers if you get time to sit and chat. read more

Positives Very close to Mt Snow. Rustic lodge to stay at. Very much the country VT vibe if that's what your looking for. Negatives It you use the hot time you will be filmed doing so. Motion activated spot light is aimed at the tub and ever few minutes a record voice tells you that you are being recorded. You also have to be extremely careful with the shower. Once you have the perfect temperature set up in the tub and make the shift to shower spray the water turns scalding it WILL burn you. Had to turn the cold water all the way on high, completely turn the hot water off and then carefully barely turn on hot water. Just a drop any more than this and the water is scalding again. Breakfast is included but it doesn't start until 7:30AM ski lifts open at 8AM. Also this is a sit down service breakfast nothing to grab and go. Exceeded all expectations. We were here for a wedding and found the lodge to be very comfortable and simple. The innkeepers are very welcoming and fun, if you have the opportunity to engage with them. Their huskies are adorable and friendly. I especially appreciated the fact that management cleaned up my mess of double booking, though she did give me a funny and well-deserved hiding. The breakfasts are sumptuous and cooked to order--far better than the tired continental breakfasts a lot of these places serve. A real find. read more

The owners are just delightful and you really can't beat the prices with this motel being about 1 mile (I'd even say less) from Mt. Snow; I'd definitely return. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and made to order: Eggs (scrambled or over easy), pancake or french toast and sausage or bacon along with some continental offerings of the likes of toast, cereal and oatmeal. It's really just the proprietors doing the work so help yourself to coffee and water and such, but the food comes out fairly fast. If the place is busy, you may have to wait for a table/sit with some randoms! The rooms. This is where the lodge takes a bit of a turn. First of all, the place is exceptionally clean! Kudos to that as well as providing complimentary toiletry items like toothpaste and shampoo & conditioner. The bed in room 18 was hard as a rock and not in any comfortable way. The pillows are pretty bad as well. The heat is old school style and blasts away making it super dry and hot! We learned our lesson the second night and cracked the window. The bathroom was clean, but very basic with poor water pressure. Walls? Quite thin where you definitely hear the muffled voices of your neighbors. All in all, not the best sleeping conditions, but again for the price it's doable and again... so clean. The lodge's community rooms are quite nice. We bunked up in the front room with the roaring fire place and played some games we brought from home. They have a game room along with a very nice indoor hot tub in the basement. Overall, definitely a solid little stay with great prices. I'd recommend, but be weary: if you are a light sleeper, you may not have the most well rested stay. read more

My sister and I stayed here while doing the GMAC this weekend. Have to agree with the other reviewers. I really have no complaints. The owners are friendly, their lodge is clean. The common areas are comfy. Nice deck snd pool. Beds are ok, not great. Bathroom was fine. The rooms could use some updating. I absolutely have to rave about the blueberry pancakes we had for breakfast! They were so good, we asked for another one! Delish! The breakfast room is bright and roomy. Looks out onto the flowered gardens...pretty. We helped ourselves to drinks-coffee, juice and water. Socialized with the other guests and enjoyed ourselves. I work in hospitality, work in a hotel and have a degree in this and have never experienced such terrible customer service in my life. Rude couple that owns this. Very rude at checkin and front desk. My friends and I stayed here for a festival in April for skiing and snowboarding and were treaded rudely from the moment we checked in. The first night we had an extra guest than we had planned and they kicked us out of the hotel because of it on the second night. CANT EVEN BELIEVE THIS!!!!! I understand laws and policy's but we offered to pay extra for the extra person and they locked us out of our room and told us we needed to leave. We weren't disrespectful, loud, or messy. We were nothing but respectful and got treated like nothing but dirt. I have never been treated so poorly at an establishment or will ever return or recommend this for anyone else. On top of them being rude and kicking us out they said rude comments under there breath and to other guest staying with us. Worst experience I have ever had. WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE OR STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!! read more

We stayed here in November 2019 for a weekend trip to Mount Snow (Founder's Day skiing). We were a bit late leaving, so when we realized we'd miss check-in time, we called the desk and NO PROBLEM!!! They would leave keys and instructions for us when we arrived! OK, now we're relaxed, and not rushing in the dark. We arrived just around 10 pm, and the proprietors were still awake, dealing with some not-so-smart person that crashed their car on their front lawn. (Not really sure how, it was just a bit icy out and careful driving would have totally prevented that!) We were greeted warmly, and shown to our room. The proprietors and their resident dog friend were pleasant and gave us a smile despite the late hour and the aforementioned commotion outside. We got Room 1. It was right as we walked in, and unloading the luggage was easy. We were also shown to the ski closet to stow our gear, and given a summary of the common areas (closed at the moment to the late hour, but sounded great!). There is a refrigerator in the downstairs lounge for communal use, and we put our beverages there to grab in the morning. The instructions for connecting to the free wi-fi were posted on the front desk, and connecting was fast and easy. Next morning, BREAKFAST!!!! A delicious, home-cooked by the owners breakfast if bacon, toast, eggs, and plenty of offerings of cold cereal, bagels, and hot coffee, tea and juice in the dining room. Perfect way to start the day. It was delicious! We skied Mount Snow, and the weather wasn't very nice, It started to rain in the early afternoon, so we decided to head back to the lodge and make use of the hot tub. I will say that at this point, I'd seen some complaints about folks crabbing that the decor in the lodge is dated and old, and BLAH. I found it rather comfortable and homey. I really liked it. Rooms were clean and comfortable, bed was comfy and warm. Yes, some things around the lodge are showing a bit of age, but we found everything to be very clan and comfortable. Though there was no closet, there was a clothes rack and boot tray so we could hang our wet ski things to dry while we warmed up a bit. We decided to explore the lodge a bit, and found the common areas very cozy. If we had been rained off the mountain completely, the quiet lounge was well stocked with many books and comfortable soft couches. I could spend a day in there and be VERY happy. We didn't use the TV room, but found it cozy as well. We decided to head to the outdoor hot tub. It was DIVINE. Totally relaxing after a day of cold, wet skiing. After hot tub, we freshened up and enjoyed a night at the local watering hole. We came back tired and happy, and curled up to warm, comfy beds for the night. Morning came, and we had another wonderful breakfast. We were kind of wishing we could stay another day because it was warm, cozy, and comfortable in the lodge and cold and raining outside. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, so we packed up and headed home. We really loved our stay there, and will probably return in winter of 2020 if we have the time to travel. This is everything you want in a ski lodge 2 minutes from the mountain. This would be my go-to place to stay anywhere in the area. THANK YOU for a wonderful trip!!! This inn is overall very good for it's price-point. Very clean, smells good, friendly staff & bed was comfortable enough. Also location is very convenient for the nearby recreation. However, there was a major issue that is knocking my review down to 3: The room was very HOT. I mean so hot we had serious difficulty sleeping. The room did not have the ability to turn off the heat and we had a restless night because of it and started the day parched from the dryness of it. If you like sleeping in 76-80 degree temperature range then consider this a 4.5-star review. read more

A good experience in the off season, for the most part. We spent four nights here recently for the green mountain challenge and murder mystery night. The rooms were good, albeit dated and very firm bedding. Each room had a bunk bed, which might be a con for people who want a more spacious room. There is a shortage of outlets, but you can ask the desk for a surge protector to make more room. One other thing to be aware of is the lack of air conditioning - a box fan from the front desk helped, but it might be unbearable in the hottest weeks. The hotel was very clean, with no evidence of bed bugs or other pests. One of the living rooms has a strange smell to it that many people might find of putting, but this did not reach our room. Worth mentioning was the breakfast service. Every morning we were treated to a friendly staff that knew what were up to and seemed genuinely interested in the green mountain challenge. It was really nice! Breakfast portions might seem skimpy to some people - if you order French toast and bacon, you get one thick piece of toast and two pieces of bacon. If you order pancakes you get one pancake. You can always pad things out with cheerios and toast, but it is something to consider if you like big breakfasts. We would not have a problem staying here again. read more

The Lodge offers all it says - friendly owners and staff, welcoming atmosphere, warm rooms, tv lounges, a fabulous hot tub, ski room, game room, clean rooms and facilities, great breakfasts with eggs anyway you want-Steve the chef was very accommodating, even doing Mickey Mouse pancakes! This is a family owned inn and it's so good especially for the price. THIS IS NOT LUXURY its COMFORT. They give you a real breakfast, cooked by the owner eggs and pancakes or whatever you want. They have a hot tub, pool table, foosball. Lots of TVs and hang out spaces. This is great for couples and families which I can hardly ever say. If your a couple you can hole up together use the tub etc. If you are a family there is a kids room space in the back and you are right next to the entrance to Mount Snow. We went here for their murder mystery weekend in April and we had a blast!! We found a deal on livingsocial and decided it would be a fun weekend adventure. The lodge was nice - not fancy by any means but you can't go expecting 5 star amenities in a small Vermont town. The beds are not comfortable, the floors creek and the decoration is stuck in the 70s but exactly what I expected. The owners are lovely, the breakfast and dinner we got was delish and the murder mystery dinner was so fun we definitely will go back. I want to go when the outdoor pool is open so we can take advantage of their amazing back yard set up. The only thing we wish was that the pool table/hang out areas were open until at least 11 PM instead of 10 PM and that breakfast went until 10 AM. read more

President Carter called and wants the decor brought back to his administration from the late 70's. The lodge, looking at it from a big city occupant, is quaint for it's purpose which is a ski resort/lodge. It is in a good location in town and accessible to the main roads. The parking is free ( always a plus ) and my wife had a good experience with the woman who runs the establishment. Rooms are clean enough. On the flip side, as stated earlier, the lodge needs a makeover for current day 2017. Old doors to enter your room that could very easily be broken into and a physical key rather than card. Creaky floors and no heat or AC ( perhaps an oversight by me but not functioning in room 20 ) The window does not stay open unless rigged with something to keep it up. If you plan on visiting and are local, please keep in I am used to Sheraton, Marriott, etc type of hotels but for small town America, this is a quaint yet dated lodge that serves it purpose. read more

While being quaint and cute the staff was quite rude. I came back early from hitting the slopes to relax in the hot tub, and to my dismay found the door padlocked shut. Then met with the response, "What you didn't think the hot tub would be open? you are just here to eat and leave." They also called my friend "Fat boy" for wanting seconds at breakfast. read more

I didn't stay here but had to come in and ask for directions when gps on my phone wasn't working and it was icy on the roads. The owner was very caring and helpful. She gave me access to her wifi so I could download the map, as well as written directions in case the phone failed on my way back. The inn is close to Mount Snow and owner is very friendly, I would definitely stay here next time. This place is located about a 5 minute drive away from the base of Mount Snow. read more

My boyfriend and I just returned from our vacation in Vermont. He and I searched the internet prior to booking our stay at a bed and breakfast near Mount Snow. After looking at many options ranging in price, we decided that we would stay at Big Bear Lodge. It was less than a mile from Mount Snow. We also decided to stay here because of the advertised bar/restaurant. We wanted to have the option to not leave if we wanted to hang in for a night. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the owner, a very nice British man. It was already approaching dinner time by the time we arrived. We asked which was to the restaurant. He told us that they didn't have a bar or restaurant. He said that they bought the bed and breakfast from the previous owners about 5 years ago and couldn't get a liquor license because he's from the UK. Ok, that was a bummer because that was one of the main reasons we paid more than we could have paid at other places with the same amenities. We got our key and went down to the "newly renovated room" which immediate hit us with a smell of beef and soap. Very odd. Our room was also freezing. We were left a small space heater that when left on for hours, barely made any difference in the temperature. Other than the smell, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and we were happy to be there to get our ski trip started. When we went to take a shower, the toiletries left for us included 2 plastic pouches of shampoo (ones you would find samples of in a magazine) and a travel size toothpaste, both EXPIRED IN 2009. Obviously these items do not spoil, but it is odd to me that they would provide expired toiletries. I decided to get a shower before heading out to dinner after a 6 hour ride in the car. When I went to blow dry my hair the power went out and I shorted a fuse. I shorted a fuse 3 TIMES! When I asked the female owner to help flip the circuit, she rolled her eyes and me and stormed off to try and fix it. I quickly had to call her back to fix it a second time. Her husband fixed it the third time. I ended up leaving my hair damp and going out to dinner in the 30 degree weather with a damp head of hair. What a romantic first night on vacation. The next morning we went to breakfast which was lackluster to stay the least. I orders scrambled eggs and French toast with bacon and a glass of orange juice. My boyfriend orders pancakes, bacon, juice and coffee. Where do I start. The eggs were clearly powder or imitation eggs, the fresh squeezed orange juice was most likely sunny D or powdered substitute as well, the bacon was paper thin and greasy. Then, what we both have been waiting for, our pancakes(s) and French toast. We each got 1. One piece of toast and 1 pancake. The French toast was good but the pancake was tasteless and doughy. To top it off, being in Vermont, we expected Vermont Maple Syrup. Nope. Maybe Log Cabin? I don't know what it was other than disappointing. I should have been happy we got breakfast. The second morning, we arrived for breakfast at 9:08 am. We thought breakfast was over at 9:30. We were wrong. Breakfast is 7:30 to 9:00 am sharp. 9:00am!??! I don't know about other people, but personally, I like to sleep in a little on vacation. That isn't allowed at the Big Bear Lodge if you want breakfast (that you already paid for). We were turned away for breakfast. The milk was taken away so we couldn't even eat cereal. Not too hospitable if you ask me. We made breakfast on our last morning. Particularly because we were hunger and didn't want to miss it again but also because checkout was at a strict 10:00am. Forget having time to get up, get ready etc...you better be up and out by 10:00 am or they come knocking. To sum up my experience at the Big Bear Lodge, I would say it was a huge disappointment. We had a wonderful ski trip aside from the cold and almost rude hosts we had. I would NOT return nor recommend anyone stay at the Big Bear Lodge!!!! read more

I recently stayed here for a weekend, and I have to say, I'm not impressed. It was so cold, and the thermostats in the room are locked, so you can't change it for your room. I found that very cheap for the price that they charge your room. The rooms need updating, the old tube tv has lines going across it, the beds are very uncomfortable and you sink to the ground. The rooms are musty smelling. The walls are paper thin, and you can here EVERYTHING. When you take a shower, the water keeps changing from hot to cold (I don't know if it is due to others using the water, but it happened 4 times while I showered on separate occasions). The samples of shampoo and conditioner that they give you appear to be refilled. Even the tip envelope for the room cleaner was used, as the envelope was already licked (gross). The breakfast is good, it is a nice compliment. Would I stay again, most likely not. The hosts (husband and wife) are very cold people, not very friendly at all. I feel like the owners are a little too frugal here and it truly shows. read more
