This year, our friends celebrated their wedding at the Wilmington In , and the majority of guests stayed, including us. There's plenty of on-site parking and as soon as you walk in, you feel the owners' passion for the property. The decor is classic Vermont, and the common spaces have comfortable, inviting furniture. There is also a bar area where you can purchase any number of craft cocktails, which are expertly made. We stayed in the Wilmington room, which is one of the few rooms with a King bed. The room was beautifully furnished, with a nice high bed, armoire, and television. The bathroom has a beautiful jacuzzi tub and shower. The linens were fresh and comfortable. Where the owners truly shined was with hosting the event. We truly felt special during the weekend. Every evening a fire was made in the fire pit out front. The breakfast each morning was delicious. And the main common room was cleared of furniture in one day to accommodate the wedding tables. Everything looked fabulous and made for an incredible wedding. I highly recommend The Wilmington Inn, whether for a quick stay, or your special event. You will not be disappointed!

From the street it looked like a charming New England B&B and there are plenty of those in the area. What sets this particular one apart, in my opinion, are the following: * At the back of this charming home is a beautifully crafted, lush garden with a hammock and benches placed in strategic nooks designed for optimal book-reading or daydreaming. At the top of the small hill is a pergola -- for more daydreaming, or if you are a bride-to-be looking for a romantic venue, this tops the cake. * The added bonus: you get your own entrance to a walking trail (please see picture below) that connects to a network of trails. It's beautiful now in the the summer time. I imagined how much more beautiful it will be in autumn. I must come back. * The breakfasts are to die for!! Imaginative and definitely gourmet. BTW, I had stayed in some expensive hotels before (the Four Seasons, etc.) -- in my opinion, this B&B's breakfast is better. Way, way better. On my first day, the second course was freshly-baked frittata with a side of steamed kale and zucchini -- picked from their garden. The cheese had just the right gooey to it, and the eggs were fluffy. Day 2: French-toasted croissant filled with creamy custard and drizzled with maple-orange syrup. Yum! * The Owner, Lynn is a wonderful person who had lived in Brattleboro for a very long time and knows its ins and outs -- from where to get great cheese to Brattleboro's unique home architectures. Engaging when a guest needed help and wonderfully welcoming. Yet, I always felt I had my privacy. She has mastered how to be a great host. BTW, the rooms are clean and well kept with a touch of history and modern amenities -- for example: I had a double shower head (a rain shower and a handheld). One last thing: In a hotel or an Airbnb, I always felt unsafe -- locked and double locked. In contrast, in the three days that I stayed here, I left my windows open at night to feel the cool evening breezes from the garden, and during the day, I left my door unlocked while I ate breakfast at the dining room. Priceless. I would come back for the breakfast, or the garden and walking trails, or the wonderfully warm, welcoming atmosphere -- better still, get all three. This one is definitely worth going back to again and again whenever I find myself looking for a great place to stay in Vermont. Highly recommended!

We were in awe of the home, the decor, the homemade desserts, the little touches that made our trip very special. The suite was extremely clean and stocked with lovely linens, fresh fruit, coffee, and even fresh autumn leaves for a beautiful decorative flair. They were kind enough to pick us up from the Amtrak station and really attended to our every need. My boyfriend and I spent a weekend here for an anniversary in the fall of 2004. The house was very…read morehumble, comfortable and personal. Nothing to overwhelm, distract, or wow you. Okay, except for the natural beauty and peace surrounding you. Recommendations for local dining and sight-seeing were spot-on and breakfasts in the house were absolutely wonderful. Aside from visiting the artist workshops, galleries and attractions in nearby towns (went to see the Pioneer Valley Symphony one night and out for Blues & BBQ another,) exploring the attached walking trails with splendid beaver dam, a late-night soak in the outdoor hot tub under the starry November sky, driving the scenic roads into the Vermont, we also went on one spectacular autumn horseback ride. I'm a longtime rider and horse-lover while it was my boyfriend's first time on a horse. Mark listened and matched us perfectly with horses that are obviously very, very well cared for. My boyfriend had a mild-mannered, smooth Tennessee Walker and I had a once-spoiled draft mix that needed only a little mindful, experienced attention to bring out his wonderful potential. The ride was wonderful for both of us. There are plenty of uptight, pretentious horse people and plenty of rough, careless horse people but Mark is far from either. I personally loved his thoughtful, gentle approach. It was such a relief. Oh, and the green field of horses in every shape and size was a horse-lovers (and photographers) dream. Just beautiful, I was in heaven. We were having such a good weekend at High Pocket that my boyfriend decided to call in for a day off from work so we could add a third night and went for one more ride in the morning before we left. That getaway remains one of the most memorable for me. Whenever I try to relax or meditate, my mind returns to our first day: the crisp autumn air, warming sun, the rustling sound and smell of decaying leaves, and the utter peace of the place. I'm not sure I've ever felt so perfectly content and unconsumed. High Pocket is good for down-to-earth, low maintenance guests in search of authentic, peaceful experiences enjoying the quiet beauty of your surroundings and soaking up a slower pace of life.

There are some original parts that date to its origin as a pub and inn from the late 1700s. Some quirks in the facility are due to various retrofittings and building updates. A great jumping off spot for driving around the local area. And the Inn itself was fantastic too, starting with Jeff who was very helpful and welcoming. Robin took our reservation over the phone and she also was very friendly. The breakfasts were very good and it was great to hang out behind the Inn where there is a large pond. We did do a trip up to Woodstock and truthfully we were very happy that we were staying at the Whetstone Inn rather than someplace in Woodstock. Way more relaxing I think. It was our first visit to New England and it might be a while before we get back but when we do, we'll be staying at the Whetstone Inn. Go, you'll love it.
