We were greeted by Paul upon arrival- booked breakfast for 8 am- he gave us the keys to Rm 1. Charming room with Mountain View-(not easy to see through the trees or phone wires)- the bed was comfortable yet extremely squeaky. If you moved even a little we thought we'd wake other guests- pillows comfortable-this room faces the road- there was a lot of traffic- idling- loud music- they were painting the road at night so we figured that's why so much traffic- was our first time here- next time we'll be requesting a garden view room- live and learn. Accomodations were clean- breakfast in the morning was delicious-the coffee was very good. The website mentioned paths in the back- nice walk on side of lake- not epic- no need to do that- grounds I'm sure are gorgeous when all is in bloom- parking- very tight spaces- there are exact amount of spots for guests- to maneuver can be tricky at times- so pull into driveway slow! We had an absolutely lovely stay!! We were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary and we haven't been away since Covid so this was a treat for us and Judy and Paul did not disappoint! Our room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. They provided plush robes along with complimentary snacks and sodas made in VT. The delicious breakfast far surpassed our expectations. We are still not eating inside restaurants and we were so grateful for the beautiful set up outside for our breakfast with the stunning view of the backyard. We stayed for 2 nights at the Inn on Putney and wished we could stay longer. John and Cindy are the perfect hosts and the inn is beautiful. The grounds are beautiful, with plenty of spots to sit and enjoy a good book. We were in the Ripley Suite and loved it. As you walk in the door, you step into the bedroom with views overlooking the backyard. The bedroom was so cozy and the bed offers an incredible night sleep. Walking into the living room, there is a beautiful fireplace, sofa, desk area and a mini frig. The bathroom is traditional and offers plenty of space. John's breakfasts are absolutely delicious and a wonderful start to each day. We will absolutely go back and you should just go! read more

Hands down the best B&B I have stayed in. The innkeepers are human beings that create a warm safe environment. They open their inn to veterans each year on Veterans Day cultivating a really nice getaway for veterans and a guest. I can not speak more highly of this B&B. After a long roadtrip from the Midwest, Paul went out of his way to check in on us as we arrived, showing us around the inn and to our room, carefully taking our breakfast orders, and making us feel totally welcome. The house and grounds are beautiful, the room and common spaces warmly decorated and super comfortable, and the food and service each morning for breakfast was first rate. We could not have asked for a more successful stay, and are already planning our next roadtrip out east to give us an excuse to stay there again. There's not much I can say that isn't detailed well in other reviews. This bnb blew us away. The attention to detail was just wonderful. The sheets were the softest sheets I've ever slept in. The food was gourmet and tailored to our tastes/dietary needs. And the area, the friendliness of Paul, just... everything... was so beyond. We got lucky with a cancellation. What a sense pleasure this B & B is. Cindy has exquisite taste in antiques, art, collectibles, and gifts to take on your journey. We were long-distance travelers from California but what a perfect spot for locals for a special night or a WEDDING. As I snapped pics, I thought that a bridal party would fit perfectly here at the Inn and the guests could converge on the property for a perfect exchange of vows in Vermont. We are longtime visitors to Brattleboro visiting for the 1st time since the 2020 pandemic started. The grounds, house and interior are elegant and lovely. For us playing cards, enjoying wine and chocolates in our room and delicious gourmet breakfasts made by the host were simple and perfect. We plan to come again in the summer when we can do some hiking at Wantastiquet and kayaking nearby! read more

The Inn on Pitney Road is a very special place. I planned a trip to Brattleboro from NYC after finding myself with a very rare three days off in a row. A quick search lead me to the inn and I booked the Blue Room for two nights. I came up to hike, read and generally unplug. I was able to do exactly that. The inn is tucked away on Putney road and just a ten minute walk into town. The decor is beautiful and the accommodations very comfortable. There are books everywhere to knock off the shelf and thumb through as well as a really great selection of classic DVD's to watch in your room. Paul, the innkeeper and host, was very kind and accommodating. He was able to provide excellent advice on nearby hikes and places to eat. There were very thoughtful touches throughout, like tea and coffee setups everywhere, snacks in your room, super comfy couches in the sitting area and a fun pool table. I am already looking forward to coming back to stay here. It was a true delight. read more

When our adult children presented us with a holiday gift of a two-night stay at Brattleboro's Inn at Putney Road, we had no idea how much we would absolutely love our stay over Valentine's Day (Sunday afternoon, February 13 through Tuesday morning February 15). My wife, Anne, and I are aficionados of elegant New England bed and breakfast inns, and we were thrilled with both the beautiful inn itself as well as Paul, the incredibly kind and hospitable innkeeper and his excellent staff. First the inn: classical New England, warm sculpted woods and a cozy fire, luxurious without being ostentatious. Both gorgeous and enchanting! Our room was the Garden View Room which had a very comfortable queen bed, a warm fireplace, a refrigerator stocked with soft drinks, some complimentary snacks, a coffeemaker, and a deep classic-style tub Inviting public rooms with all the personal touches, eclectic art, and six lovely rooms perfect for travelers or tourists looking for a bit of respite from the usual challenges of the work-a-day world. The atmosphere throughout the inn was comfortable and inviting--with snacks like chocolates and home-made cookies always available and plentiful. As fantastic as the inn was (and it was sensational), it was equaled or even surpassed by the warmth, friendliness, and generosity of the innkeeper, Paul. Over the few days we were there, he became a real friend, always available and inquiring as to our stay but never overbearing or intrusive. He just really seemed to care about us, rather more like friends than simply guests. I believe that the inn was full the days we were there, but he made us feel--through his attention to us and our needs--that we were the only guests there. The breakfasts, as others on these pages have remarked, were truly outstanding---works of culinary art which were not only absolutely delicious, but also delighted all the senses. The presentation of each dish was magnificent. On one morning, a half-grapefruit with a caramelized sugar topping on which rested luscious, colorful fruit, pancakes with strawberries and fresh maple syrup, a fried breakfast potato dish with exquisite seasoning. The next day, a lovely fruit salad with walnuts and blue cheese sprinkles and an elegant omelette, with another potato dish. We also really enjoyed the fresh juice and the aromatic French press coffee. My descriptions cannot match the quality of the offerings. Please check out the photographs. Finally, I have to comment that we have never ever seen such attention to our dietary needs as Paul displayed. My daughter had explained beforehand that her parents were both on strict salt-free diets, and Paul constantly adjusted our breakfast to accommodate our needs. He prepared our meals without salt and even changed the planned quiche to a delicious omelette and stuffed it with salt-free ingredients to be sure that we not only enjoyed our breakfast, but that it was diet-friendly. Looking for things to do? The day we arrived, we explored and shopped in downtown Brattleboro. That night we had a fantastic gourmet dinner at T. J. Buckley's. The next day we visited a number of terrific places: the Grafton Village Cheese Company, the Vermont Country Store (both locations--in Weston and Rockingham), and the Friesians of Majesty in Townshend for a incredible sleigh ride that was both relaxing and thrilling, capped by a fascinating discussion about the history of the Friesians by the owner. It was a Valentine's weekend beyond any we had ever experienced---three days and two nights at the romantic, elegant, unforgettable Inn at Putney Road. We can't wait to do it again! read more

My wife and I stayed in a carriage house room separate from the main house. Very comfortable and clean room with a nice jacuzzi tub and a quiet, romantic gas fireplace. The grounds are beautiful and the main house is very comfortable. Within walking distance of downtown and has hiking trail access around the lake. John and Cindy who run the B&B were great and make their B&B a fantastically hospitable home. We stayed for 5 days/4 nights. Breakfasts are great. read more

We stayed here a few weeks ago for our 20th anniversary. This place is amazing! Breakfast is gourmet and top-notch. We had massages on-site. Our room was spacious, clean, and quite lovely. The grounds are beautiful, and there's a lake a short walk down the path. Brattleboro is beautiful, and we got to see the leaves turn colors. I'm enamored of this place- my husband keeps trying to convince me that we can't move to Vermont and live at the inn, but a girl can dream. One hundred percent recommend. The house is just lovely, as is the backyard. The walls are filled with original artwork and loads of books and movies to enjoy. And there were candy dishes everywhere! Which was a problem after the first day, since I couldn't stop snacking... Anything you may need (or forgotten) is in the room--some nicer b&bs will surprise you by really skimping on the toiletries--that's not the case here. What really makes this place exceptional is the breakfast. We weren't in Brattleboro for long, and had dinner at two of the nicer establishments in town. Our breakfasts at the Inn were better than both; and honestly, the best we've had at a b&b. Buckwheat crepes filled with yogurt and spiced apples, asparagus and herbed goat cheese omelettes (with just the right balance of cheese; you could still taste the other ingredients), hot muffins, fresh pressed coffee; and each meal started with prepared fruit (mint and honey pear salad and bruleed grapefruit.) I could not believe these dishes weren't prepared by a professional chef. We'll be back! read more

The Inn is beautiful and in a perfect location, walking distance to downtown and hiking trails and kayaking right nearby. The backyard is beautiful and the Inn has lots of relaxation space. I stayed at the Inn of Putney Road a few weeks before the lockdown began. It also seems that i was a guest at the inn right before new ownership took over. My review is based on my stay during Presidents week 2020. I was more than satisfied with my stay. It's a very small inn with only 4 rooms in the house. I happened to have been the only guest when i was there which was nice. It was as If i had my own space to myself outside of my room. The breakfasts in the morning were homemade and delicious. John, who was the breakfast chef was astute when he noticed i didn't eat the bacon and made sure to make Turkey bacon on the next day (although i don't eat turkey bacon either but it was the thought and paying attention to details that count). Also on a VERY nice comfortable weather day, you can stroll right into town to the main street. Although it was very Cold and snowing when i was there, so walking was not on my agenda then. I would definitely come back and experience brattleboro in another season so I can see different sights. read more

My fiance and I stayed here for a long weekend in the lovely Red Maple Room, in the carriage house off from the main establishment. We are people who appreciate a cozy and quiet setting and this was so delightful. The room is so cute, and it has a perfect hot tub and fire place, great after returning from a brisk hike nearby. The grounds themselves are so pretty and sit just at the edge of the West River inlet, with a beautiful walking trail along the water just behind the property. The great treat of staying here were the owners, John and Cindy. We came on Amtrak from New York City, John was so accommodating and picked us up from the station. They both were sweet, inviting, generous, hilarious hosts, and John makes the best breakfasts each morning, and Cindy introduced us to the genius concept of "Boston Tea" :-) . There was a lot to explore and appreciate in Brattleboro and nearby (if you don't mind the splurge, there's an amazing meal to be had at T.J. Buckley's). But both my fiance and I wish we had left more time to hang out with John and Cindy! I'm gushing, but they were very polite and attentive. As far as the Brattleboro scene goes, we came here for a quiet New England autumn weekend and it was golden-leafed and exactly what we wanted. The town has plenty of great places to eat and cute shops. Nearby, there are wonderful farms, great distilleries, and an impressive glass blowing shop. Overall, a great getaway that we would love to repeat. read more

Secluded inside beautiful, tranquil gardens and greenery, this beautiful stately house is minutes from downtown Brattleboro which has many attractions, including a great variety of restaurants. The inn keepers could not have been nicer, providing friendly help, a gourmet plentiful breakfast and a meticulously Covid-sensitive environment.
