I am writing this as we are fighting a global pandemic. I work in healthcare, and due to a…read morecolleague testing positive for COVID-19 because of which I had to quarantine, I had to cancel my reservation that I made through Airbnb. Per Airbnb policy, I requested a refund. That is when I realized that while a lot of people are stepping up to help each other, this crisis has truly brought the worst out in some people. Not only did the owner Liz not agree to refund my money, I was horrified by the kind of response I got, which is as follows - "I believe you are suffering from 'Progressive' thinking, a form of self-obsession, which brought us this pandemic: The weight of the Billionaire Liberal Elite Ruling Class over its slave-labor minions whose herd is being culled... Forgive us, Lord, for we know not what we do. If you don't get what's really going on ($$$$), please get informed on my (Hidden by Airbnb) page: Liz Dery in the red dress." I am truly appalled that someone would think like this, particularly in the middle of a crisis. I would STRONGLY advise steering clear of this place!!

This place isn't what it once was. I wasted my money staying here again expecting a good experience…read morebut was let down. The outdoor area is very peaceful and the river is always beautiful but that was it. The cabin was filthy. There was dust and spiders and filth in all corners. The bathroom has no windows and the water smells terrible you when you shower or brush your teeth. Place was dark and not well kept at all. Air conditioner wasn't working well at all so the cabin was hot and stuffy. Jacuzzi was filthy so we didn't even use it . It wasn't relaxing unless you were outdoors away from the cabin. I added photos for you guys to see how filthy it was. Don't waste your time or money staying here. We stayed here before and it was much more clean and well kept so not sure what happened over the years. It is super outdated and needs a complete make over. The owner also has no respect for Covid and even had a folder on the coffee table about how Covid is fake etc etc. That also made us super uncomfortable. Find another place in Vermont if you want to relax and enjoy your stay this isn't it.

I think this is going to be year 8 for us at the cabins. The feeling "retreat" comes to mind when…read moreI think longingly about the cabins in Goshen. This year they are going to be rebuilding the dam at the end of the lake, so that should be worth exploring next year. Last year, we learned how to sail, which was a real treat. We were in the correct season to get to be able to pick fresh wild blueberries from our kayaks!! We made a great syrup with them, and had it over ice cream...yummmm. ====================================================== In response to the person that has trouble with stairs: I think all the cabins have some amount of stairs, the white one has the fewest (maybe one?). In order to get down to the lake, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE ANY STAIRS. My mother-in-law has bad hips, and she doesn't use the stairs. All you have to do is either go around the house to the right, or walk all the way to the left in front of the green cabin, and there are NO STAIRS. The lawn is very gradually sloped on both of those paths. You can even get to the lake by walking directly in front of their porch...without stairs. Look at picture number two (that I took years ago), there are NO STAIRS under the flag on the left OR near the small red tree on on the right. The stairs mentioned are directly in the center of the picture under the arch.

We swam, kayaked, grilled every night, played with our dog (yes, they are extremely dog friendly) and just relaxed by the lake and in our cozy cottage. It's close to so many great places to visit and enjoy (Northampton, the Berkshires, DAR State forest), yet far enough away to indulge in a little pastoral solitude. We can't wait to return!

When we started wedding planning, my wife and I had a vision. As closely as possible, we wanted to…read morereplicate our family's lake house in New York. We knew we needed a place for 150 people and we knew we wanted it to be drivable for both family and friends in upstate New York and Boston.   We stumbled upon The Lake House Guest Cottages of the Berkshires after months of searching, but the only wedding we had seen hosted there was inside the main cottage. Reluctantly, we decided it was probably too small for us.   Fast forward another month.  Randomly one night, my wife and I both separately pulled up the venue again and I said, "We need to just call them. Maybe they have some grass we can put a tent on." After a couple of email exchanges, Eric, the owner, and Cory, the grounds keeper, invited us out to see the space and were instantly sold. The beautiful grounds, the stunning cottages (or as we like to call them, "mini mansions"), THE VIEW.   Not only did they have four cottages on site where guests could stay, but they also had a field where they had placed a tent for previous weddings that could hold up to 150 guests. We soon found out that over the winter months they would be adding three additional cottages for guests to stay and a seasonal tent to be used for weddings throughout the summer and fall. Needless to say, we booked it.   A couple months into planning, LHGC added a wedding coordinator to their awesome team.  We connected with Kelsey instantly, discussing plans we had made and things we had coming down the line. She was always available if we had a question or concern. Come time to do our walk through before the wedding, we laid out the entire day with the help of Kelsey and our caterer.  We walked away knowing we had the dream team on board.   When our weekend approached, all the new additions were complete and the space was more beautiful than ever. We had our rehearsal brunch Friday morning and welcome party Friday night, both of which allowed for the caterers to take full advantage of the catering kitchen in the main cottage. Kelsey and Cory were completely accommodating and there from start to finish to help with anything we needed.   Our guests arrived sporadically from Friday morning through the evening and spent time playing lawn games, kayaking and paddleboarding on the lake, and enjoying each other's company.  It was so nice to have the entire grounds at our disposal.   On our wedding day, it was just the same. Everything went off seamlessly. Kelsey and Cory were both there if something came up, made sure that set up was perfect, ran the ceremony and reception smoothly and effortlessly.   Our wedding was perfect. It was everything we could have dreamed it to be and more.   Thank you, LHGC, for welcoming us to the family!  We look forward to spending many anniversaries with you on Pontoosuc Lake!
