Great experience! Very eclectic, unconventional. Breathtaking mountain views. My family rented two vacation houses at the Wilburton for our large extended family of 25 -- I knew very little about the property before we arrived, so we were taken aback by the sprawling turn-of-the-century mansion and spectacular mountain views as we drove up the driveway. We absolutely never expected the art installations across the grounds -- including 18 x 26-foot Egyptian statues! The art and decor were eclectic and unexpected, and I found them very intriguing. It's definitely not your traditional resort, but that's what we liked about it. And the statues made for an amazing night with smores by the fire pit! The Reunion House was spacious -- we particularly enjoyed the living room, as it gave us enough room to comfortably host the other half of our family (about 25 of us) for a casual birthday party. There was plenty of seating with cozy leather sectionals and two large dining tables that seated about 8-10 people each. My daughter loved playing the piano in the living room, and the rooms downstairs with the daybeds were a great place for the kids to hang out and watch TV together. (The galley kitchen is a little small, but we were aware of this ahead of time because it was mentioned on their website.) We were there during a massive heat wave and all the air conditioners worked very well and kept us cool. Our kids loved the volley ball/badminton area steps away from our house. The outdoor pool is beautiful and it was so wonderful to be able to gather there easily with our whole family. The innkeepers were friendly and helpful. And we enjoyed looking around the mansion as well. There was so much do to in nearby Manchester -- great restaurants and shops, the bookstore is fantastic. We also enjoyed the ropes course and alpine slide at Bromley Mountain. We can't wait to return next year -- we'll be staying at one of the other properties even closer to my extended family's rental house and I'm so excited for its private balconies, jacuzzi tubs, and even more beautiful mountain views! read more

Stayed at the Maxwell House across from the main house, and the room was gorgeous! Clean, spacious, with plenty of fluffy pillows and cosy blankets for the cold VT winter nights, with our own private entrance and parking close to the rooms. The grounds are beautiful, serving as an outdoor sculpture garden, perfect for strolling or meditation. The inn is located away from the bustle of Manchester Center, but only a few minutes away from Main Street and the state roads to reach nearby towns. The main house was rented out for the weekend, so we were unable to go inside, but Melissa graciously offered to give us a quick tour when we checked out (contactless, as was the check-in), so we had the opportunity to meet Melissa, as well as the "doggie concierge" Jetson, and sampled some muffins baked on the premises. We stayed in the lovely Zinnia room in the strawberry hill villa. Very spacious, comfortable queen size beds and a wonderful view of the mountains. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with indigenous plantings. Check-in was seamless, with Melissa texting us all we needed to know: door codes, amenities, as well as a list of things to do and restaurants in the area. We were there for their Mother's Day Murder Mystery weekend and it was so much fun! The staff was super friendly, food was excellent (buffet breakfast as well as a buffet dinner during the murder lol). This is a great place to relax and enjoy! read more

Perfect dog friendly inn. Melissa and Jetson were wonderful hosts. We enjoyed staying in the presidential suite with our own Cavalier King Charles spaniels. It was a hallmark movie Christmas vacation (except boy and girl are already married and just a sprinkle of snow). We had a ton of room and the king bed was so comfortable for us humans and our pups. This was our 5th time staying at the Battenkill Valley Mansion (BVM). This is the perfect space for a group like ours. We are a group of twenty friends. This was our 48th annual reunion. Over the years, we have been to many different cabins and houses. The BVM represented a HUGE upgrade when we found it in 2018. The beds are comfy, the house well kept and very well maintained. The Innkeeper is accommodating and always available to answer any questions. Our group cooks together and the kitchen at the BVM is well appointed and spacious. We have already reserved our time at the BVM for next year. read more

Gorgeous views of the mountains and easy access to the shopping and historical areas of Manchester from this spot! The grounds have interesting artistic displays, while the inn has an old charm to it. We stayed for a wedding that was held here, and it was a great venue for that. We stayed in one of the rooms in the cabin closest to the house (#20) and it was a wonderful view, reading or working from the patio & seeing the brick in front of the Green Mountains. The continental breakfast after the wedding was a bit sparse in terms of options, but the baked goods were heavenly! read more

I recently went to the Wilburton on a solo visit so that I could write and just get away from the pressure of NYC. This was the perfect weekend. The Wilburton is a truly special place. My family and I read about it in Yankee Magazine which featured its annual Doggy Slumber party. The mansion (main part of the inn) was decorated so beautifully for Christmas and the party was amazing. A chartreuse from NYC performed Christmas songs as we sipped champagne and delighted in the warmth of the season. Melissa (owner) couldn't have been more accommodating and was genuinely so happy to host and entertain the guests. We stayed in the Presidential Suite which was very clean, comfortable and well appointed. It even included a full kitchen and laundry room-- perfect for our family trip! Hosting our 3-generation family reunion in October, the wonderful Wilburton brought so much laughter and love that I had to come back for a little New Year's romantic getaway. Welcomed by the cascading snow-covered views, charming rooms, historic ambience, and inspiring art, you are truly transported to a Hallmark winter wonderland. The grounds gave us a great base to go into Manchester Center, go skiing at Stratton, and even a sled day! Our Grief Support Group of 20+ people just had our Second Retreat at Battenkill Valley Mansion (part of The Wilburton Inn). The house is absolutely amazing. Bedrooms are very nice and comfortable. Almost every bedroom has a private bathroom. The dining room had more than enough seating for our group. It was so nice for all of us to be together in one room for our meals. The Living Room where we gathered for our meetings had plenty of seating and is such a cozy room to hang out in. The Ballroom is a great space, where we had our Yoga, Meditation and Sound Bowl Healing Classes. Every room in the house was Immaculately Clean. The property is very secluded with total privacy and is surrounded by beautiful estates. Also, Battenkill is Pet Friendly which is Amazing!!! It was very special to be able to have our support dog "Pierre" join us for the retreat!! Cannot say enough about how happy we have been for the second year at Battenkill. The Wilburton Inn is a family owned business and when you reach out to them to book your reservation you know right away how much they truly care about their property. 10 out of 10!!! read more

Our visit here in October and here are a few things you should know. 1. Don't go here. You will be disappointed 2. dreadfully overpriced l 2. The grounds are run down and not well maintained. Dumpy 3. Their website is completely NOT accurate of what the main buildings look like (think sanitarium) The Inn should be ashamed as it is false advertising of the pictures in their site. When in reality the whole property looks like a place where a Stephen King movie should be filmed. 4 this in NOT an inn. It is a wedding venue, (a tacky one) conferences and mystical workshops. the outdoor installations look like it is for some odd worshiping practice. It was not put up to the sake of art and if it was it is just disturbing. 5. Our cabin was decorated in a manner that is completely not a feeling of New England. If you are looking for what most would understandable feel like New England that is the last thing it is. Ours had bright teal silk curtain valances that gold embroidery and fringe on them. An odd tapestry. Lamps made no sense. There is a plastic elephant ear plant outside the UNIT to go with the tacky theme of the room. 6. We did not use the kitchen and would not if we needed to. First the 2 burners of the stove are a fire hazard. I don't believe there was an exhaust fan. If you did need to wash dishes there is no sink but the bathroom Sink. The refrigerator is a complete safety risk, when you open the door it leans out like it is going to fall onto the floor. and I can't believe it is to code or needs ADA requirements. 7. There was absolutely no contact with anyone from who would be representing the property. Privacy is one thing, but a sense of not being a valued guest or feeling people there are non existent. The worn down property and attraction guide is so out dated. 8. Bath linens and towels were hard a rough. I could not sleep directly on the sheet. 9. There is no pride in the property here. We went up from NJ with no expectations to a Halloween dog weekend. It rained the whole weekend so my expectations were low. Turns out it was an awesome experience. Our family had three beautiful quaint rooms, one with a full kitchen where we ate together. The activities were wonderful and fun. The inn keeper sung her personal story to us which was fascinating and with a beautiful voice. The dogs were fun and in town, they could come into stores with you and even a few restaurants. Beautiful location and ideal setting for a manor home. Our room was bugged. As in the creepy type of 1" with lots of legs. They were on the ceiling and dropped in the bed. So upon arrival there is no "check in". Just follow the e-mail instructions they send. There were bugs awaiting our arrival. We removed about 5 and left for dinner. Upon leaving for dinner we noticed under our room was a cellar door that was open and sign about extermination and a rodent bait box. We return and find that the bugs were coming out of the floor boards. Lost count at 15. The room needs to be renovated and fumigated. We received a refund from a nice gentleman that returned our call. Visit and see before booking is my advice. read more

On the plus side, a grand old place, very interesting to look around and beautifully situated on its grounds. On the not so good side-- pretty creepy! And I say this while apologizing to the owners/ innkeepers who were very nice. BUT -- We arrived in November, very cold and early evening. The Inn is actually a 'Gothic' type mansion with marble porch & columns--and slippery. When we entered, it was very dark & woody... lots of dark wood- staircases, paneling, floors, furniture. There was 1 noticeable light on at the reception area around the corner as you enter & the owner/hostess was on the phone. Believe me it was spooky. Wasn't interested in looking around as I usually do because of the darkness. The owner/ host was standing & watching us from the dark hallway. We were shown 2 rooms upstairs [creaking ]. It appeared that we were the only guests-- good, alone in big dark house. Actually, the rooms were quite pleasant & comfortable & we were pleased with that. A bit shabby, bathrooms, linens & all in great need of an overhaul. There was no way to adjust the temperature in the room & they had cranked it up for us before arrival. So we were hot all night and cracked a window open for some air. This door/window would not close again, which went out on a rooftop [ did i say already that it snowed while we were there?] So, the first night, lights out. I lay back & immediately feel a pressure on my chest pushing me down! I wasn't scared, just shocked! It happened so fast & was over that I thought it was my imagination. My daughter Laura, who we had come to VT to visit, had a Dr.appointment the next day & came out with a story to tell! It seems her Dr., when she mentioned where we were staying, had said he had relatives come & stay at the Wilburton & guess what.... one of them had a push on her chest when the lights went out. Laura had not related my story to him. I believe in ghosts now. In the light of day, we roamed around & looked at all the rooms. The place was vacant. Breakfast, which was to be included, went from the 1st morning of eggs & toast made by the handyman, the next morning, only cold cereal & stale rolls put out by the receptionist who we were told would cook for us; the last morning I went down for coffee at 8am & found no one & the kitchen & dining room locked. Went back down later & the host was standing at the bottom of the stairs & offered to make coffee. We didn't stay for breakfast or another night. In all fairness, I am sure that in a warmer, brighter season that the Wilburton is a delight to stay in. They are supposed to have alot of weddings & family gatherings. But we won't be returning. read more

Melissa and her family run a fantastic bed and breakfast get away! I have been coming to this amazing property for eons now. First as s newly engaged New Yorker who was quickly hooked to have my special wedding day here. The 1996 wedding was sublime and the Inn was able to accommodate all our family and friends who made it a full weekend of biking, hiking and festivities. Since then I have been back a dozen or so times with the kids and also for romantic weekends. You can not go wrong with the art-filled grounds, or the near by activities. Highly recommend! There is something for everyone; there is a main guest house but plenty of out buildings which are great for hosting larger family gatherings. They also own a large mansion down the street which is perfect for hosting retreats or reunions. read more

My wife and I came down here for our Anniversary which is right before Christmas. We found this while google searching Christmas towns. As a Big Hallmark Christmas movie fan the season long snow, the bright lights and the town scenery was EXACTLY what we were looking for. As for the Inn itself, the staff and Inn keepers were amazingly gracious in everything , gave us great recommendations of things to do in town, welcomed us is as we were one of their own. The rooms were amazing. We were able to see all the rooms while we brought in our luggage and any room looked amazing! Our room was the honeymoon suite and I must say they went above and beyond with a champagne surprise for our honeymoon! We have since booked the following year for our anniversary ahead of time and my wife and I plan on making this a yearly tradition! read more

Magical New Year's Eve! We had planned to celebrate My girlfriend's New Year's Birthday at The Equinox in Manchester Vermont. Much to our disappointment, we had to leave & find another hotel on News Year's Eve! We were surprised to be able to find 2 accommodations for us & our friends at the Wilburton Inn. It was a God send...it was situated on a beautiful hilltop with beautiful views of the Green Mountains. It was like a compound of different villas & buildings, with very unique statues & an incredible turn of the century mansion. We were warmly greeted by the owner & his family & immediately checked in & drove to The Strawberry Inn Villa on the property Our rooms were very clean & so comfortable. We even had a common area with a living room, kitchen & dining room. So perfect because we had brought food & had planned to celebrate in our rooms & watch the ball drop in NY. New Year's Day we had a full buffet breakfast in the Mansion that was included. Their Blueberry pancakes were amazing! The Beautifully decorated rooms on the main level had a piano, sun-filled rooms, puzzles & people playing board games & a main dining room with tall glass windows with amazing views of the mountains. It was there where the magic began. As we were eating we met the owner Dr.Albert Levis, his very talented daughter Melissa, her wonderful son Max & their very friendly Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Jetson who is the concierge! Then, the so called coincidences began...the owner had his practice in Connecticut & my girlfriend thought she knew him & sure enough 30yrs prior she was his patient. Her son was attending a college where my friend lived. So they are going to visit when she goes to visit her son. Melissa was celebrating her 50th & my friend Carol her 65th. Before you knew it other guests were relating in one way or another. It turned out to be like visiting family & Melissa said we will always be welcomed! We will be going back & look forward making more memories there. read more

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews for the Wilburton Inn. I LOVED my stay here. I came here on a girls trip with 3 other girlfriends and we stayed on one of the properties off the main house. They had not updated their website and gave us a room with only 1 king bed. Realizing that 4 girls would not fit in 1 king bed, they combined 2 rooms in the house together giving us 2 bedrooms, a dining room, fire place, living room, a kitchen, laundry room, and 2 bathrooms. It was HUGE! Although many of the rooms contained many unfinished elements, the house was very cozy. Every morning we had the most delicious breakfast which comes with your stay. Pancakes (some of the best I have ever had), eggs, bacon, bread, cinnamon rolls, coffee, tea, and juice. All was delicious. And the staff was so friendly and accommodating. The property, situated on a hill, is absolutely stunning. Especially in the fall it gives you a great view of the beautiful colored trees. All which is scene from the breakfast porch. The main house is a beautiful Victorian property house with a lot of history. I did not see any ghosts. If you are staying in Manchester and you come with a large group of people I would highly recommend Wilburton Inn. Also, stay at least 3 days if you can. I am so surprised by the negative comments. My experience with the Wilburton has been excellent over the years. We got married here in 2003, and the food was delicious. The setting outside was like being on top of the world - with nearly 360 views of the green mountains of Vermont. 'Romantic to say the least. My family rented one of the cottages with a fireplace and 2 bedrooms, and we found it clean, comfortable, and attractive. I cannot speak for the rooms at the main house, but I have seen a few, and they vary widely in size and decor. The outdoor pool is quite nice. Creepy? How about austere and very English style Architecture? We recently had their St. Patrick's Day breakfast for a mere $12.00 - a lovely, full breakfast, replete with Oliver's remarkable bread. His is the best soda bread I have had anywhere- hands down, including in Ireland! My husband had the corned beef hash that was perfect- topped with 2 sunnysides, and I ate large, fluffy blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup (of course), bacon, fruit, and more bread. Wow, those breads - pure heaven! Len, our server, was warm and friendly - and sat down with us at the end of the meal for a delightful conversation. They do a splendid Easter Brunch as well. My favorite room for breakfast is the Terrace, with large picture windows and views of the mountains, but for dinner, we love the Billiard room by the fire. The walls are a beautiful dark oak. I think that turn of the century inns like this are a real treasure. I love the quirks of these old estates....for instance, take a look at the ladies room off the lobby - it is truly charming! The door handles are works of art. And all that solid old wood ....you won't find that in a modern hotel. If you do a little research about the owners, Albert and Georgette Levis, you will discover that they are quite remarkable people. read more

Our stay at the Wilburton Inn, an historic mansion on a 30 acre estate with gorgeous views of the mountains, was so enjoyable, unique and memorable! We felt like we glimpsed the grandeur of an earlier time while being centrally located to enjoy all this area currently offers. An elegant parlor, the dining rooms plus several porches offer beautiful views and multiple relaxing opportunities. The guest rooms in the mansion are each unique with period furnishings and a wide variety of accommodations are available in villas on other areas of the property. The owner has a large number of interesting sculptures scattered over the grounds. A second generation of the owner's family welcomed and offered sight seeing and dining advice to us and other overnight and week end guests. We enjoyed the variety of homemade breads offered among the other breakfast made to order selections and wished we could have attended the new tradition of a farm to table dinner on Wednesday evenings, featuring the breads and all organic, locally raised foods. The Wilburton Inn is a labor of love and a family affair - good food, expansive and stately, a quirky non-cookie-cutter base for retreat and relaxation. I have been returning to the Wilburton for nearly fifteen years, and have taken great pleasure in watching the next generation of Levises take over. One of the sons now runs an organic farm and bakery across town, supplying the restaurant with true farm-to-table stuffs. Breakfast is not to be missed! This is a beautiful Inn with so much character. The family that runs the Inn is so welcoming and made us feel like we were a part of their family. My husband and I stayed there for a few days to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. We rode in on our Harley and from the minute we walked in the door, were welcomed with a smile. Normally old Inns and B&B's aren't my thing, but I can honestly say this Inn made me want to give other Inns a try. The Inn is old but doesn't feel creepy at all. The furniture was antique but well cared for. The bed, OMG, the bed was so amazingly comfortable. Normally I don't sleep well the first night of a stay in a hotel but I did not experience this at the Wilburton Inn. The bed was nice and comfortable and the comforter was nice and soft and smelled good. It was the kind of bed and pillows I love. I'm even going to say it was more comfortable that my own bed at home. My favorite part of the days there was at night when we'd come back from a long day out. We'd get back and on the porch we were welcomed by the owner asking us to sit down and have a glass of wine. The friends we made there this weekend was awesome. We were able to interact with other guests and get to know them better. I loved this! The grounds are beautiful and quirky and the views are awe inspiring. "A Glorious vacation!" Farm Night on Wednesday is pure bliss. The food is amazing, along with the music and good-fellowship. The proprietors, the Levis family and friends are a delight. We enjoyed the art and sculptures. Lye Brook Falls was a wonderful moderate hike, about 2 hours total time. The Skyline at Equinox Mountain was breathtaking. Museums and gift shops galore. We ended up at this quaint bed and breakfast nestled into a beautiful mountain side in Manchester, Vermont on a foliage trip. We showed up the first night thinking there would be openings since it was a Sunday. Oops, the entire town was booked. I guess we weren't the only ones with the bright idea. The inn keeper, I assume one of the sons was very helpful and actually researched other hotels and B&B's for us. We came back the next day, and ended up with a beautiful room overlooking the mountains. The room and the entire inn is filled with gorgeous antiques. You can tell this is a family operated business, everyone is extremely nice and accommodating. The property is well maintained and our room was very clean. I highly recommend!! read more

Love this place! It is absolutely enchanting. The views are unbeatable and the inn is charming, filled with eclectic art and great books. If you want a relaxing escape this is the place to go and enjoy nature and great food. The breakfast was so wonderful and different--homemade breads, coffee cakes, frittatas--complete with great coffee that I was thinking about the food and the views long after we left. The inn is run by a family and every member makes a unique contribution. The personal touches show everywhere and it is clear they put their heart and soul into making this a magnificent destination for travelers from all over the world. I was so relaxed walking the vast grounds of the inn surrounded by mountains everywhere that I wish our stay had been longer. Looking forward to coming back! read more

We'd been to the Wilburton before but had yet to stay overnight, though we made a mental note to do so some day. Our first experience as guests was stellar! We stayed in the main house on the top floor overlooking the winding drive up the hill, with a lovely view of the mountains across the valley. The room had every amenity we needed, with a spacious bathroom and comfortable four poster bed, and even a chaise to lounge on while watching the snow fall outside. Charming, welcoming, cozy; the Wilburton exceeded our expectations in every way. (It even started the lightest dusting of snow the moment we arrived; just enough to make these Floridian residents shiver in delight!) The property is beautiful and lovingly maintained, and everyone working there is attentive and caring. The Inn is located just a few minutes from the bustling village of Manchester, where you'll find shops and restaurants; we overheard discussions with another guest at the front desk about where to go for dinner, and they sounded like they knew what they were talking about! Breakfast at Wilburton is a TREAT. Beyond the usual scrambled eggs there was a steaming hot egg scramble with veggies (and cheese? It was great!), along with the usual plain scrambled eggs. Bacon, greek yogurt, fresh fruit, and thick slices of homemade bread with creamy butter rounded out a tasty meal that seemed far too good to be included. Oh. And COFFEE. Wonderful coffee! We sat at one of the many comfortable tables in the breakfast room with a view out over the valley. Sunny and welcoming, this was the perfect start to a chilly Saturday in November. We are thrilled to say that we loved our quick stay and we will definitely return! read more
