The Inn consists of a historical home built in 1830 and 2 outbuildings- one with guest rooms the other serving as the office, serving/common area and lounge, they also have a little gift area and local recommendations for restaurants and activities posted. We were greeted warmly and all the amenities of the inn were clearly explained. The room was great - renovated and decorated beautifully. The rustic charm and thoughtful designer touches created a really relaxing and cozy space. The room was spotless with comfortable bedding, large oversized shower, and good lighting that helped to make the space perfect. The grounds have a pool (closed due to the season), several gas fire-pit conversation areas, a brick oven pizza restaurant and a pond. They serve breakfast daily and had snacks/coffee/tea/etc available all day. The lounge is well stocked with some great whiskey and they had seasonal drink specials. Our absolutely favorite part of the stay however was meeting and getting to know the inn keepers, Andrea and Pete and family. What started as a quick stop for a drink before turning in, became an evening of stories, laughs and new friends. We simply can not recommend Barnstead Inn enough.....if you choose not to stay here next time you're in Manchester it is your loss!

Our room featured a four-poster king bed, lovely period antiques, a fireplace, and a breathtaking view. The gracious, welcoming ambiance made us feel we had traveled back in time. Family members who own the estate are on site to manage visitors' experience from start to finish. Melissa ensured every aspect of our time at the Inn was magical. She shared all the special things to do in Manchester, fine dining, historical areas, shopping, and hiking. By the time we departed, we wished we had booked a longer stay. Breathtaking mountain views…read more My family rented two vacation houses at the Wilburton for our large extended family of 25 -- I knew very little about the property before we arrived, so we were taken aback by the sprawling turn-of-the-century mansion and spectacular mountain views as we drove up the driveway. We absolutely never expected the art installations across the grounds -- including 18 x 26-foot Egyptian statues! The art and decor were eclectic and unexpected, and I found them very intriguing. It's definitely not your traditional resort, but that's what we liked about it. And the statues made for an amazing night with smores by the fire pit! The Reunion House was spacious -- we particularly enjoyed the living room, as it gave us enough room to comfortably host the other half of our family (about 25 of us) for a casual birthday party. There was plenty of seating with cozy leather sectionals and two large dining tables that seated about 8-10 people each. My daughter loved playing the piano in the living room, and the rooms downstairs with the daybeds were a great place for the kids to hang out and watch TV together. (The galley kitchen is a little small, but we were aware of this ahead of time because it was mentioned on their website.) We were there during a massive heat wave and all the air conditioners worked very well and kept us cool. Our kids loved the volley ball/badminton area steps away from our house. The outdoor pool is beautiful and it was so wonderful to be able to gather there easily with our whole family. The innkeepers were friendly and helpful. And we enjoyed looking around the mansion as well. There was so much do to in nearby Manchester -- great restaurants and shops, the bookstore is fantastic. We also enjoyed the ropes course and alpine slide at Bromley Mountain. We can't wait to return next year -- we'll be staying at one of the other properties even closer to my extended family's rental house and I'm so excited for its private balconies, jacuzzi tubs, and even more beautiful mountain views!

Cozy library and sitting area with period furnishings. No phones or TV in the rooms which is really why you go away.. to escape! Stasia is a very friendly hostess and eagerly will help you with a dinner reservation and be sure you are comfortable. Hot tea was always available. Hot breakfast with fresh fruits and plenty of coffee or tea- very tasty and filling. All rooms have canopy beds. There is a guestroom on the ground floor so if stairs are an issue you can request that one. Parking is a short walk from the front door. Grounds are lovely with a small pond and not far from Hildene or Manchester Center. Room rates are fair given its proximity to so many lovely attractions in Vermont. Like, you walk in...the keys to your room are in a basket with a piece of paper on the counter, name on that as well. It's very weird. I guess the ...the future? Lemme say a few things..good and bad about that. The Good! Ok...super convenient. In.....and OUT! You drop your key in the basket and bounce. No check-in or check-out. But see! AH! There is also some bad to that...."bad" FOREVER we have ALL dealt with front desk employees. So...we all have gotten used to that, right? Of course. There is some kind of comfort in having a front desk employee there. Thats about all the good...I would say lol The BAD! What if you lock your key in your room on accident? You are basically screwed. Not sure if there is a way to contact anyone to get you back in and yes....they are actual keys! Not the little cards we all see at regular, mainstream hotels. I DID! lock my key in the room the following morning. THANKFULLY! there was ONE employee there...BUT she was there to make the continental breakfast...which I will talk about in a min. She was able to give me my spare key. Thank God. If you need something in the middle of the night...oh well. There is no one there to assist you. They tell you where extra towels are and stuff like that on the paper you get when you check yourself in. It's an Inn...and Inn very close to the slopes. So when there is actual snow and the place is packed....I would assume its similar to being in a college dorm lol Don't get me wrong tho, place is very homey. The common room is incredible and I kept imaging it when I was there....FK! this would be so much fun during ski season and this place is full of people! HOWEVER! People drink and drink a lot. The walls here are THIIIIIIIIN!!! So be prepared for that! BRING. EAR. PLUGS! and use the in room ac unit for the fan to drown out noise from other rooms. You will need it. The views from the rooms are beyond incredible. I have some attached. Beautiful views of the slopes and in the Fall...the colors. The breakfast! FKN! INCREDIBLE!!! She put out all the basics, bagels and whatnot, full muffins...amazing! She made these cinnamon muffins....SO. GOOD!! I too a few home with me to give to my mom haha! Overall, it's a great place. Really is. I would definitely stay again. OH! They allow dogs....for a fee of course...even the super tiny ones. They will know too if you have a dog with you. Cameras....everywhere. It's located on a busy road..so keep a close eye on those pups. The grounds around the Inn are amazing. Cute little pond out back, sitting areas all around. It's a wonderful place. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone going through Manchester or anywhere near there. Very unique experience. I honestly can't remember ever staying at an Inn before. The owner's husband was in the kitchen cooking and now I'm sorry we didn't get to meet him because all his food was excellent and beautifully plated - we should have taken pictures. We started with their signature cocktails, which were all fine but it was the food that really shined. We had only small plates and I'm glad we did because we were able to try many things. The Lemongrass Soup with shrimp and shiitake was fantastic as was the Red Thai Curry Shrimp with tamarind dipping sauce, the fried Chicken & Mushroom Dumplings, the Crispy Sesame Chicken with green thai curry, the Beef Satay with peanut sauce, and the Smoked Baby Back Ribs with hickory hoisin bbq sauce. We also had a special that night, which was like a scallion pancake stuffed with bbq pork. Though we barely had room for it I'm glad we ordered because it was excellent the next morning. Despite knowing we were going home with a doggy bag, we ordered dessert anyway - a chocolate cake and a pretzel peanut butter ice cream thing. Both surprisingly complemented our meal. We were not guests of the Inn but the food and service were so good, the next time we come up, we'll stay there.

He then hung up on me and blocked my number. If I was going to pay 400.00 for a hotel room, it would not be at an out of date motel with a sorry excuse for a continental breakfast.
