The loveliest B&B I've stayed at in awhile. Breakfast and the views during breakfast was definitely a highlight. The hosts were wonderful with restaurant and hiking suggestions. They even offer cookies and treats throughout the day! I would definitely stay here again if I'm coming back to VT!

Could have sat here all day coffee view breakfast.

What a lovely stay. All aspects of this property was so enjoyable. As someone who travels for work frequently and a dedicated rewards point member I honestly wasn't sure how I was going to enjoy staying "local". I will definently be back. Lovely common areas, bedrooms that fit all of our travel needs, private bathrooms and the most delicious breakfasts I have had traveling in years. Met all of my travel requirements.. clean, friendly, proximity and added bonus just lovely conversations w the owners, Ellen and Rich. Thank you.

This neat B&B overlooks the tranquil Connecticut River. The Orchard view suite has a beautiful view of the mountains from it's private patio. The facilities are clean, modern with a nice country touch. The bathtub was lovely and deep. The innkeepers serve a delightful breakfast. Few things beat a delicious apple french toast with crispy double thick bacon to start the day. This B&B is worth a visit when coming to Vermont. Be sure sure to say hello to Claude the inn's resident cat.

The view from the beautiful front porch!

It is no wonder that so many of America's great writers have made Vermont home from time to time, as this wonderfully adorned property provides everyone with inspiration to feel like you are not in the mountains, rather the mountains are in you. John & Kathy are the ever so accommodating hosts, providing every aspect of hospitality expected from such a romantic and bucolic setting. This property has the detail and authenticity to seemingly tell its own stories dating back to colonial America, but whilst providing all modern comforts (AC, Fast Wi-Fi, etc.) to make for an easy, enjoyable stay. If you want to immerse yourself in tranquility and nature, take time here to relish in the gifts of country living, as only John, Kathy, and Vermont can provide. We cannot wait to make it back, in the meantime, we have precious memories as sweet as the syrup.

Perfect for weddings, events, retreats, or even just an escape from NYC. The hosts John and Kathy are so welcoming and kind. Also great location - the better half went skiing at Okemo while I stayed in and enjoyed everything about the cozy farmhouse. Highly recommend.

We…read morepicked the Grafton Inn since the reviews were good, the menu was interesting and the prices reasonable, plus they were open on weeknights. Reservations are easy to make online. Getting there proved a bit challenging when Google Maps routed us on State Route 121 which has some unpaved sections; luckily going back was easier using Route 35 to Route 11. Arriving at Grafton the first impression was of a classic New England Inn with a welcoming glow on a cold winter night. Entering through the B&B lobby had a great warm and comfortable feeling. The feeling of history is reflected in sign over the front desk showing the many prominent guests who have stayed over the years. The restaurant is classy, burgundy-colored walls with white trim and classic fixtures; a wonderful upscale dining room without being stuffy. They even had live music with a guitarist playing soft rock. Our server was very nice, professional and attentive. The menu combines classics and some interesting touches, I ordered the Bouillabaisse and my friend ordered the Caesar Salad and Chicken Wings. Our food came out quickly. The Caesar salad was huge, the wings were tasty and a generous portion. My Bouillabaisse was excellent a nice tomato and fennel broth loaded expertly prepared scallops, shrimp, mussels and a large fish fillet. The highlight were the large sweet perfectly seared scallops, but all of the seafood were delicious. For me this was a Pescetarian dream dish. We were persuaded to order dessert my friend got the Apple Pie and I got the Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie topped with vanilla ice cream. Both desserts were sweet and satisfying, a great way to end a wonderful meal. I would strongly recommend having dinner at the Grafton Inn, the food, service and atmosphere are great, prices are reasonable for what you get. This was a perfect way to top off our ski trip with a superior culinary experience.

This was not comfortable. Many tables were occupied so we couldn't move to another table. Food: The menu is somewhat limited. Since there is only one kitchen, they use the same menu for both the 1801 tavern and the connected PhelpsBarn. That's not a bad thing but it just depends on whether you are looking to Dine or Eat. Chicken Wings app was good, not great. Give it a 7. I ordered the $40 filet mignon. I asked for MEDIUM RARE with emphasis on medium rare. It came out medium then the residual heat made it close to medium well. Disappointing. The waitress (Joann and trainer Hannah) asked how I liked the filet. I gave an honest answer that I was disappointed in the meal. I give honest opions since this is the feedback they need to make improvements where necessary. I did not ask, but Joann took the filet off the bill. My wife got the lamb chops. The two large chops were very good. Cooked perfectly. Their salads are quite good. Their Caesar salad is beautiful and plentiful. They do have a semi limited stocked bar in the tavern. Mostly average stuff. I did find and bought Remy Martin Cognac for my digestif. The food wait staff are all very helpful and pleasant. Joann and Megan are very very nice. Nice active fireplace in the sitting room. Our Presidential suite was quite clean and comfortable. Breakfast dining area was cool. Most folks were wearing heavy sweaters or jackets. Really!! Robbie at the front desk is nice and helpful. Angela is the innkeeper and runs a tight ship. I think we caught the 1801 food preparers on an off night. This, in no way, will change our opinion of this charming Inn. We will return.

(which the Inn certainly delivered) But now...I can't stop thinking about the powerful reality of farm-to-table living and Jackie's insistence that we finally pick up and read The Omnivore's Dilemma on the nightstand in every guest room. The many awards and accolades this place continuously receives year after year speaks for itself. Let me tell you about our experience: We booked the Mustard Room and since Jackie had other rooms available, she upgraded us to stay in the Rose Room. Bonus. The bed was fit for a king and after a long drive we snoozed until the wee hours enjoying pure luxury. If only we could have spent more time exploring the rooms which were decorated with rich detail. Have fun playing board games in the front room or pick up a cozy book in the library room. The bathroom feels like a spa and the sunroom is where you need to spend your time. Better yet...get outside and explore the grounds! Learn how to build your own compost, collect eggs, pick vegetables, play with the animals and so much more. Lola just comes out and gives lots of love :) The 3-course candlelight breakfast was delicious! On how many occasions have you enjoyed a beautiful flower with your meal as you chat with the cook about how many more blooms you should eat for a balanced meal? My first popover was steamy and tasty. Too bad I filled up on the complimentary cookies in the pantry that I couldn't eat more. But you know what? These cookies were the number one recipe in town. No, really. They won the local contest for best cookie. I think I ate like 10 cookies in one hour. You have to stock up on the town's NUMBER ONE cookie!! No shame! But the food really is incredible. All straight from the farm. All organic, all sustainable. The partnership with local farms and shops is inspiring. Jackie gave us great tips on things to do in town and the best way to enjoy hot cocoa at Burdick's. (half and half). Probably the best tips she gave us were life-changing and inspiring for our future farm to table efforts. One day, Jackie! One day! You really need to stay here and taken an apprenticeship on sustainable farming. I still find myself wondering how much Coco and Lola have grown (friendliest goats in the world). The Inn really did change my life.

On the day of check-in, we received a text message stating our room was available for early check-in. Inn policies are on their website. 'Quiet' hours are between 10pm and 7am as a courtesy to other guests. The house is an historic Victorian with a large porch overlooking the Saxton River across the street. Behind the building is a staircase up into the woods where you will find a walking path. Two basketball nets are in the parking area. Vermont maple syrup is for sale in the vestibule. Furnishing are estate sale finds and fit the period of the home. There is no elevator at this property. Rooms are on the two upper floors, so be sure you can carry your bags up the stairs. Payment was taken at the time we checked in. Rooms do not have keys, and the front door is not locked. A care taker lives on site on the first floor. He is available by text if we needed anything. A small sitting area is located on the 2nd floor and includes a community refrigerator with a few honor bar beverages for sale including soda, beer and single serve wine. Two microwaves are in this area as is a coffee pot and supplies. The rooms all have wood floors with area rugs. Ours had a desk area, sofa and a slipper chair as well as a small TV, small fridge and coffee maker with mugs. We rented the one King bed room which includes an en suite 3/4 bath. One bar of soap and one shampoo are in a basket on shelves over the toilet as was the hair dryer. The room did not include a dresser or clothes closet. No iron, extra pillows or blanket. The suitcase stand is too small to accommodate either of our small suitcases so we used the coffee table. A few hooks are on the wall between the windows for coats and what not. Shades and curtains cover the four windows in this large corner room. All rooms have cast iron radiators. Ours included an electric baseboard heater. The house we are told is kept at 65 degrees, which for us is fine, but we were in control of the electric baseboard heater and were quite comfortable during our stay. The sheets were soft and clean. Six pillows were on the King bed, one blanket and a bedspread. A lamp and side table are on each side of the bed. As it's an old house plugs were limited but were enough for our needs. Room six at the end of the second floor hall has a bathroom with two shower stalls located next to, not in, the room. A privacy curtain can be pulled over the end of the hall to shield you from the other guests as you move between the room and the bathroom. I think it was room five (not sure here) had a glass enclosure inside the bedroom to serve as the bathroom divider. As an historic building, there is only so much you can do accommodate a bathroom in each room and they have done what they could to give each room it's own facilities. As several rooms were unoccupied I did check out several other guest rooms. Some sleep two, some three. Each had at least one comfortable chair. The third floor is set up like an apartment and would be a good rental for family members or a group. Bedrooms 7, 8 and 9 are on this level, as well as the shared bathroom, living room and kitchen. Breakfast is not included, but there are several small businesses in the area where you can get coffee and breakfast. The local market, just up the road from the Inn, offers breakfast sandwiches and coffee at the back. Bellows Falls has two coffee shops and a diner (closed Monday) and Grafton also offers dining options. During our visit several locals were visiting with the caretaker on the porch. The porch has a variety of seating options on two sides of the house. It really is a good spot to sit a spell, visit with the locals and enjoy a Spring evening in VT. No frills, but if you are hoping to visit this beautiful area of VT without busting the bank, this could be a good option. Taxes add about twenty dollars to the on-line room price.

From the street it looked like a charming New England B&B and there are plenty of those in the area. What sets this particular one apart, in my opinion, are the following: * At the back of this charming home is a beautifully crafted, lush garden with a hammock and benches placed in strategic nooks designed for optimal book-reading or daydreaming. At the top of the small hill is a pergola -- for more daydreaming, or if you are a bride-to-be looking for a romantic venue, this tops the cake. * The added bonus: you get your own entrance to a walking trail (please see picture below) that connects to a network of trails. It's beautiful now in the the summer time. I imagined how much more beautiful it will be in autumn. I must come back. * The breakfasts are to die for!! Imaginative and definitely gourmet. BTW, I had stayed in some expensive hotels before (the Four Seasons, etc.) -- in my opinion, this B&B's breakfast is better. Way, way better. On my first day, the second course was freshly-baked frittata with a side of steamed kale and zucchini -- picked from their garden. The cheese had just the right gooey to it, and the eggs were fluffy. Day 2: French-toasted croissant filled with creamy custard and drizzled with maple-orange syrup. Yum! * The Owner, Lynn is a wonderful person who had lived in Brattleboro for a very long time and knows its ins and outs -- from where to get great cheese to Brattleboro's unique home architectures. Engaging when a guest needed help and wonderfully welcoming. Yet, I always felt I had my privacy. She has mastered how to be a great host. BTW, the rooms are clean and well kept with a touch of history and modern amenities -- for example: I had a double shower head (a rain shower and a handheld). One last thing: In a hotel or an Airbnb, I always felt unsafe -- locked and double locked. In contrast, in the three days that I stayed here, I left my windows open at night to feel the cool evening breezes from the garden, and during the day, I left my door unlocked while I ate breakfast at the dining room. Priceless. I would come back for the breakfast, or the garden and walking trails, or the wonderfully warm, welcoming atmosphere -- better still, get all three. This one is definitely worth going back to again and again whenever I find myself looking for a great place to stay in Vermont. Highly recommended!
