My in laws stayed here many times years ago and they loved it and my MIL knows we like to do "long weekends" in VT and NH to explore. We booked two nights and have had the most wonderful stay. The area is very nice and lots to see and explore. Our stay at the Inn has been wonderful. Everyone who works here has been so welcoming and helpful. The room we are in is very comfortable and well kept and clean. The property is gorgeous with lots of trails - we only briefly explored the trails on the property. The common areas feel very comfortable as well. We had breakfast at the Inn and it was wonderful - I commented to my wife that it was one of the best breakfasts I have eaten out in I can't tell you how long (partial "thanks Covid") - we do eat breakfast out with some frequency. Tonight we also had dinner at the Inn. While the farm to table menu is a little limited the choices were good. My wife had butternut squash ravioli and I had the crab cakes - both were excellent. She enjoyed her salad and I my soup. Lovely stay, very nice people, good meals, and a beautiful property. Not a single regret. We already started talking about a return trip!

The restaurant is well lit, uncrowded and staffed by the nicest people in the area. While the menu is very limited, the five course, price fixed meal was wonderful. Yelp asks what could improve?…read more Well, for starters my now wife and I booked an elopement package here. We booked the Tier Two package as we thought it was the best value. Based on what we saw on their website it looked amazing! Unfortunately after the experience it felt extremely over priced. We were under the impression the manager Cheryl was going to be there and was assisting us with any questions or issues that came up leading up to our special day and then the day before found out that she was on vacation and Jen would be helping us. Upon checking in we went to our room the "Lucinda's Suite" which by the name sounds great. The room itself was large and rustic which isn't bad and was what we were looking for however when i went to use the shower i barely fit never mind the shower head was at my chest level. I'm not a tall person either. On Saturday the day of our "special day" we went to the included breakfast which was nice but were left wondering what was going on for our big day as we were introduced to absolutely no one and told nothing besides a time to show up. When my wife and I went to the gazebo where the ceremony was to be held it was a rough site. Paint peeling, rotting floor boards and things of that nature, not something you're imagining to take pictures in on your big day. As we sat in our room we watched as they decorate led the gazebo...with a table and a table cloth. About 30 minutes prior we were finally introduced to Jen and our Photographer Greg. The best thing i can say was Greg was truly an amazing photographer and did the best he could with our photos. He honestly made the day for us a lot better with his energy and his enthusiasm. After it all we decided to just cut our losses and go home even though we had paid for 2 nights. The 3 hour drive and staying in our own home sounded better. Overall if you're looking for a nice place to elope this wasn't it, as our day did not feel as though it was made very special. The absolute best part was the photographer Greg Nesbitt.

just reading a review of a year ago with people complaining about mosquitoes and hornets and bugs…read more I am writing this with the same complaint about mosquitoes and bugs sitting out on the porch in the restaurant when the sun starts to go down. There's really no excuse for this. Thermo CELL makes an incredibly cheap little gadget which we bring now when we're coming there that you just turn it on and sit it on the floor and it absolutely deters anything like that. I think Management should have taken that review a year ago seriously. The food was very very good the atmosphere is delightful the white staff was very nice. The other concern is that we were seated outside which we wanted and about a half an hour later a family with four children under the ages of six years old were seated right next to us almost shoulder to shoulder where the planter is and they all began screaming and running around and this was for the entire dinner. That should not be anything that should happen. If you have a situation like that where screaming children are around they should be seated at a table around the corner on the deck off by themselves. Only problem is you only have three tables outside on the deck and you could easily fit six but there should be an accommodation for some type of situation like that. When you spend about $200 for a dinner and you're completely inundated with bugs and screaming children both of which are not necessary, you are left with a bad taste in your mouth. Hopefully management will decide to address these issues as they should.

Our room was nicely decorated and spotless. The bed was very comfortable, and everything looked like it had just been freshly painted and new furnishings. They have added so many personal touches to make it pretty and welcoming from the flowers to the lighting at night. We felt like we were being welcomed home. To top it off they offer breakfast every morning with your choice of several egg options, homemade banana bread, cereals, cheese, fruit, orange juice and coffee. We had the best omelets we have ever had! Thumbs up to the owners for going above and beyond!

We drove over to check it out and after it started snowing heavily and traffic was crawling on our way from Bennington, we decided to give this place a go. The good: Extremely clean, cheap and while everything was dated it looked brand new! Well cared for. The bad: The bed was really uncomfortable, it could be a bit softer! The wifi is pretty terrible and nearly impossible to use for anything other than simple online things. I did manage to download a movie on amazon tho. It wasn't bad for the night but we would probably seek a more comfy bed to sleep in next time we are in the area.

He also recommended we eat dinner in nearby Manchester at Ye Olde Tavern, which was also amazing. The inn itself is gorgeous and well-decorated. The common areas are very inviting. There's a fireplace and stove in the first room, with another stove in the dining room. There's plenty of board games, puzzles, and books to keep yourself entertained if you find yourself wanting to stay in or the weather outside is not inviting (or you just feel like soaking in the incredible atmosphere of the place). There's two pianos in the house, both of which are well-maintained and encouraged to be played. We got to enjoy hearing Michael rehearse some church music one morning after breakfast, and he's quite talented! The house sits at the foot of Mt. Equinox and is right next to the Batten Kill River. We were there during November and got to enjoy some pretty snow and cozy heat inside, but during the summer I'm sure this is a great getaway too. There's just so much to do. The breakfasts were delicious, starting with yogurt (one morning was locally-sourced yogurt, the other used Icelandic skyr) topped with fresh fruit and homemade granola. This was followed up by something more substantial: one morning had eggs, cinnamon-raisin waffles, the best bacon I've ever had, and a generous amount of Vermont maple syrup. The next morning had eggs, a delicious potato-and-sausage mix, and homemade maple muffins. All my girlfriend and I have been thinking since leaving Ira Allen House is, "when can we come back?" If I could give this place six stars, I would.

You are familiar with the phrase "put lipstick on a pig?" Sometimes you end up with a beautiful…read morepig, actually. Such is the case with the Brittany, which is an old-school 10-room motor lodge of the type that used to be operated as a Ma-and-Pa business by owners who lived above the office and did all the work themselves. Many of these hotels have disappeared, most that remain are of somewhat questionable quality. Not so the Brittany: it has been reasonably spruced up and operated on a streamlined basis, such that (seriously, to my surprise) I had a better two-day stay than I had at the last two Hampton Inns I've stayed at. As noted, this is a self-service motel (it's so lo-fi, I'm tempted to call it a lo-tel) where you get a text with your room code and number and you let yourself in. The rooms are basic but comfortable (this may be the only hotel I've ever stayed at that didn't have "hotel art" on the walls, which was honestly kind of a pleasant change of pace). There is a breakfast room of sorts -- "The Gathering Place" -- which is a converted former room that has a cold a la carte self-serve selection of things. (The hotel is refreshed mysteriously while guests are out and about; I was up at 5 AM and the coffee, according to the machine, had been made nine minutes earlier, but I never even saw an extra car in the parking lot. Stealthy!) I wish the Gathering Place had been open a bit later than it was, as I wanted to play one of the games I had spotted at breakfast, but using Elf labor probably requires they lock it up a bit earlier. Similarly, there's a nice fire pit with a mountain view and adirondack chairs out front, but it's a mystery as to how one might use the fire pit without logs and such available. (BYO Duraflame?) The setting is quite peaceful, and while I could hear stirrings from the room adjacent -- there's only so much you can do with old construction to soundproof it -- the other occupants were quite quiet. Around you is a whole lot of nothing, although it's just a few minutes south of Manchester center, so getting provisions is easy. No microwaves in the rooms, but there's a mini-fridge, stocked with some complimentary water. The TV was also the tiniest screen I've seen in a room since CRT TVs went by the wayside, but all I wanted to watch was the Red Sox game, and they had NESN, so I soldiered on. There are a few other nits I could pick, but the old-school full-sized bathtub was a pleasant surprise and a big upgrade over all the identical awful shower-only bathrooms in almost every hotel around these days, so I will gloss over those nits. One particular kudos on the amenities: there was herb tea with the self-serve coffee! THANK YOU! It's appreciated by those of us who like a nice tisane before going to sleep. So this isn't a five-star hotel like the Four Seasons, but it's a five star motel within its class - decent value for the money, well-operated, quiet. The quiet part is all I really want from a hotel stay (that and having a door that locks correctly) and the lovely surroundings and the very very low key breakfast were big plusses.
