We were there @ 1 pm. Cute little cafe, with an outdoor patio, but today was a little cool & breezy to eat outside. They were busy inside, but were we were still seated within 2 minutes. Our order was taken & it was delivered within maybe 5-7 minutes. I had the Tuna Melt Sandwich with a cup of Tomato Basil, both were exquisite. Took a friend to lunch here. It was so-so. The bakery items might be the reason people go here. We didn't have pastries. I had the chicken salad croissant... it was soggy and nothing to brag about. The coleslaw was tasty. My friend had the quiche and didn't compliment or complain. We both had water, no other beverages. Once again, this restaurant created another hit! They increased the size of their burger. It now fills the burger bun! It is also very juicy and great tasting. The French fries are also very tasty. My wife and I had lunch here for the first time. The service was friendly, and the inside ambiance is cozy. Everything was clean. I had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich, and my wife had the soup of the day. I thought the food was more on the bland side, but both the bakery options and taste were excellent. We ordered a variety of desserts to bring home for later. The pistachio and (I think) ricotta dessert and the chocolate cannoli were exceptional. By far the best desserts I have had in a long time! I wish their baked goods were labeled, and when they put them into the takeout container, they would not place them on the side. This was my fault for not paying attention. Mountain View Cafe is only open for a few hours of the day (10 - 3 p.m.). They also offer a nice patio for outside dining. read more

TERRIBLE MUFFINS -- TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I've been a fan of Mountain View's baked goods - until now. I bought 2 blueberry muffins yesterday and returned both today. My complaint: barely any blueberries! (Sprouts and Safeway muffins are bursting with blueberries). The one blueberry I found was tiny, tasteless and tough. I spit it out. Cake was bland, so no pleasure there. The very nice server said: "There are no returns here." I asked to speak to the manager. The server returned and said the manager was not available. "Please ask her if this is worth losing a customer." She went back to the manager and returned - the manager still would not talk to me. , "We can return your money," the server said, " but only for the one you didn't taste." I replied, "But how would I know they taste bad unless I took a bite?" She said this was final. We have been coming here for a few years, thought I reviewed before but here we are! There's not much on the menu we haven't tried. The only thing I can say is don't miss Thursday. The prickly pear meatloaf sandwich is to die for. Get with the potato salad. Perfect pair. The French dip is melt in your mouth awesome, the salads are huyoooge and serve as 2 meals for sure. Everything in the bakery case is terrific, we have our faves including the chocolate mousse volcano. The eclairs are insane. And if you're looking for fast service, order ahead for take out. When you want to enjoy friends, a good meal, see folks you know, dine in. She was cheerful, attentive and funny. We were set to order before she told us about the specials. My wife changed her order to the meatloaf sandwich, a daily special. It came with 2 types of cheese, 2 bacon strips, frizzled onions and prickly pear BBQ sauce on a brioche bun. As it turns out, I should have ordered it too. It was that good. Instead, I had a patty melt. Both our meals came with French fries. As I indicated, my wife's meatloaf was great. My patty melt was good but not great. Went yesterday with my wife for the first time to Mountain View Cafe & Bakery for lunch. My wife has eaten there several times and suggested that I should try it. I found the entire experience of service, quality and ambience to be top notch. Having traveled extensively for work for several decades I have literally eaten thousands of restaurant meals. Eating at Mountain View was right up there with the best of them. The only minor issue is it can be somewhat noisy - but definitely worth the visit. I will be going back soon. read more

The Bakery Case Items Are Calling You With a nice outdoor patio that does have a mountain view and a cozy inside dining room, this cafe delivers a great experience. The goodies in the bakery cases are worth 5 stars on their own. A hot cup of coffee with any one, or two of these bakery treats is about all you can have for a late breakfast as this is mostly a lunch place and doesn't open until 10:00 am. The lunch choices range from cold and hot sandwiches to salads, burgers, quiche and soups. Drinks include wine, beer and more. On our visit my wife had the Southwestern Turkey Sandwich ($11.89) with a side of cole slaw. The sourdough bread was grilled perfectly and the combined flavor of turkey, cheese, bacon and dressing was great. I picked the Hoagie Sandwich ($11.29) and loved every bite. The ciabatta roll held up well under all the condiments, sliced tomato and balsamic. My side salad was a nice assortment of spring greens. We were unfortunate to have sat at a table very close to the bakery cases and we had to keep asking the staff what the different items were. The cakes, éclairs, bear claws, cannoli, scones - be still my heart! Their meals are filling and as most diners do, they take a little (big) something home to enjoy later. I am such a fan of Mountain View! Thank you, fellow Yelpers for the recommendation. The Manfolk and I stopped for lunch when we were going through town. I had the special, the open faced roast beef sandwich and it was delicious. They use prime rib as the base and it was perfect. We had to take some dessert home. I took the yummy cinnamon roll home and the Hubbs had cheesecake. Both were excellent. They have a nice selection and offer daily specials. I think that the specials rotate daily. The desserts are all made in house, and I assume that everything is made by hand. Great service, very reasonable pricing, yummy food. We will definitely be back! read more

The quality of the food has really plummeted in the last year. I had batter fried fish that was overcooked. The salad (out of a bag) was good. Their chocolate pyramids (chocolate mousse cake) used to be my favorite dessert of all time. The past couple of times I've had it, it was just mediocre. The cake portion was as thin as a graham cracker and clearly care was not taken with its preparation, with the cake portion larger than the pyramid which simply rested on top instead of the cake being nestled within. They seem to be cutting corners and counting on sales of alcoholic beverages to cover the lack of quality in the food. The restaurant is so noisy you cannot hear to have a conversation with your lunch companions. The service staff were attentive and are the best thing about the place. What a little gem of a cafe! Cute ambiance and friendly & attentive staff. I had the quiche which unfortunately was just okay. In my opinion it was baked in the wrong size pan for the amount of filling.. it was very flat, maybe an inch thick, which gave each bite too much crust and not enough filling. My husband had the Sante Fe Chicken Sandwich which was a double meat special of the day so along with the chicken there was prime rib. That was delicious and definitely the better choice. The potato salad sides we both chose was delightful, seasoned just right for us with just a tiny touch of bite and not overly mayonnaise-y. The bakery items all looked tempting, but I chose a lovely layered cake with lemon filling. Oh my goodness, it was love at first bite!! We'll be making this a regular stop on our way through Green Valley! read more
