The food was less than mid and I feel like some of it was maybe older food stock that they were using up. It was seat yourself, so we sat and it may have been a heavy part of the day but we were greeted eventually. We were asked for drinks orders, I asked for a coffee and water, my partner also ordered coffee and water, the rest of them ordered waters. After disbursing they then took our food order. Breakfast burrito for me, eggs Benedict for my partner, my kid had Valencia French toast, my other kid had the breakfast croissant sandwich, my in law had half order of biscuits and gravy with egg. The food came out, my in law went to cut into their biscuit and it was rock hard. My breakfast burrito was lacking flavor. The eggs Benedict was not homemade hollandaise sauce. The Valencia French toast was good but not very tangy or orange flavored unlike the description. The egg croissant was okay but the eggs looked like they were rubber. When I checked out, I asked for a blueberry muffin, bear claw, a blueberry danish and raspberry turnover. I assume it was the owner ringing me out because they seemed to act the owner but when they went to put the items in the bag, they had to excuse themselves to blow their nose. I am watching this all happen, but instead of washing his hands first, he reaches into the case with a parchment sheet hand no gloves to grab my blueberry muffin. Now why didn't I say no thank you after that, I didn't want to be rude. Maybe I should have, but either way I'm thinking that will be the last time I go here. Food was less than mid, the service was not stellar, I would try somewhere else if you're looking for good food. But if you're okay with what I listed above, go for it!! read more

1.0 star rating6/26/2025 I went in for the first time a while ago after my Doctor's appointment. Having never been here before, I was unaware this was a seat yourself establishment. I stood around the front confused, for a few seconds. One server walked past me, while I noticed the other seemed to notice me, but was choosing to make faces from afar instead of helping me. Finally, the latter server tells me I can sit anywhere. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, and my husband ordered the eggs benedict. My biscuit was hard, and the gravy was soupy with the insipid taste of only flour. The hollandaise on my husband's eggs benedict was ghastly, it was split and tasted old. Our server was rude, and didn't check back on the table often. After all of this, we headed to the checkout and are rung up by a cook. The cook handles my CASH, and then proceeds to put gloves on, without washing their hands, and continues cooking. This sort of behavior is disgusting and doesn't seem to be checked in this establishment. Servers seem to favor their regulars, and are unfriendly towards newcomers. Won't be returning!!! read more

I'm sorry, this place sucks. Visiting from Alaska, where most of the food sucks. So it's not hard to top that. But Madera Sunrise was incredibly underwhelming. I should've known when we walked in and saw a room full of geriatrics. It may be palatable for old people, but not for someone who wants something special for paying an exorbitant amount. The portions are small and pretty miserable. Overpriced, basic, underseasoned, sad. Shakshouka was gross. They fried the eggs rather than poach them the way it should be done. Then they did the ephemeral white westerner thing and sprinkled shredded cheese on it- not authentic at all. Not even close. Not even tbe same dish. The service was okay. The waitress was nice. The first time I went I forgot to write a review. It was okay that time. They took a long time to bring our food and the food itself wasn't too great. I returned today with low expectations, but boy was I wrong. It's as if the restaurant itself read my mind and improved. The food was WAY better. Yikes! This started out so-so ok, but has devolved into truly awful joint of low quality foods cooked poorly and served badly. It's just grease, and as as I said, super low quality foods. I went yesterday and had breakfast. Tell me, is cooking eggs over easy difficult? Seems so there; mine were as hard as a rock and swimming in oil. There was almost no visible yellow yolk in the eggs and they were so tough I had to use a knife to cut them. God! Awful! Honest it was pure garbage. I wish it wasn't so, but alas, it is. Decided to give Madera Sunrise another try. We were pleasantly surprised, not only with the service, but the food. Our waitress couldn't have been any more pleasant and accommodating. Will definitely be back. So happy that this was such a positive experience since GV doesn't have many good breakfast spots. read more

This used to be the patriot cafe and then the new owners bought it. They kept all the great dishes that made it such great cafe and, then, improved it. A lot. Lunchtime is my new absolute favorite time to go but.. I usually go for breakfast and it is my favorite place to go. Everything is always fresh, well made, tasty. All of The omelets or any of the eggs Benedict are terrific. The steak and eggs or chops and eggs are most filling. The biscuits and gravy is the fastest way i know of to get food coma, so good!! I also love way they make their grits. Lunch is the best. Menu is great, full of options for anyone: many salads, cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, burgers, impossible burgers, sides of all kinds (no fries, tho), and in my opinion the best burgers in GV/S. Not overseasoned, big patty, nicely grilled to perfection, fresh toppings, great cheese, and toasted buns from heaven. The philly cheesesteak is awesome too. Just come and try it! Menu has changed so don't look at the earlier photo of it in the reviews. The owner raised prices as soon as he took over, which drove away some loyal, year-round customers. I realized Monday (03/06/23) that the menu and hours have changed. Every "lunch place" in Green Valley is open until at least 2:00. These guys are closing at 1:30 now. Used to be able to order breakfast until 1:00. Now it's noon. One side of the seating area has been repainted and "upgraded" but the other side needs tons of help. On top of all of the above, prices have gone up again! And...tax is no longer included in the price. So now you're paying more for food plus another 6.1%. Breakfast is unpredictable. Sometimes okay sometimes yuck. They no longer use top of the line lunch meat (Boar's Head). Plus, even after cooking, there's no way the smash burgers started out as 8 ounces. They added the very unhealthy Impossible Meat to the Veggie Wrap. The main ingredient in the fake stuff is genetically modified soy. It also contains Heme. The FDA almost pulled it because it contains the main ingredient from the highly toxic carcinogen in the weed killer Roundup. What's wrong with having a very healthy veggie wrap made solely of fresh vegetables? For some inexplicable reason, Ashlea, the best and most professional employee, is no longer there. I never had to ask her for a coffee or water refill. And she always checked in to ask if you needed anything. The current staff ignores you once the food is delivered. It was, in my mind, mediocre when it was Chicago Deli. Rebranding as Madera Sunrise Cafe did not change anything. A blueberry buttermilk pancake was very good. Valencia French Toast (cinnamon swirl with a hint of orange) was flavorless and rubbery. A full order is two slices of bread. Server was pleasant although she did not ask about the virtually untouched french toast. Coffee was refilled but the diet coke glass sat empty from mid-meal until we left. Service was friendly however not professional. Ordered French dip sandwich. The menu did not state served with Swiss cheese. The sandwich was not served plan it was served with Swiss cheese. The waitress brought the food to the table with the check and never returned. Another waitress did come by to refill drinks but between the two waitress they never did ask how the meal was. The meat was tough and difficult to chew. I do not order food with cheese and would have not ordered this item if I had known it had cheese. I took a few bites but was unwilling to eat this sandwich. I placed the sandwich uneaten in the au jus bowl. The second waitress took my plate and bowl but never asked how was everything or ever questioned why a whole uneaten sandwich was being thrown away. Last chance at redemption was paying the bill. I walked towards the exit with the cash register and my orginal waitress was collecting payment. She did not ask how was everything. She just informed me of the total and asked if I wanted a tip applied. I told her no tip, paid and left. I will not return. Very disappointed. read more
