We've been there a few times... the 1st visit was excellent and the Catfish was great. Though their prices are a bit high, we recommended this to friends, and actually joined them, only to be served 'cold' fried Catfish and other selections. Assuming the 2nd visit was just a mishap, we recently visited again, and again we were disappointed. The folks there are nice, but Mama's is now off our lunch/dinner dinning list. read more

Good home comfort food. It's name describes its food and atmosphere very well, it feels like Mama's Kitchen. Their chicken tenders and burgers with all the sides are yummy, as well as their fried okra! We have always had great service, orders never wrong, and out in a timely manner. read more

Great Food in a Home Style Diner We happened to be at the Continental Shopping Plaza and saw this place opposite the Safeway in a strip and thought we'd give it a try. We were there at about 11:30 and most tables and booths were full. By noon, people were waiting. My wife had the Pork Tenderloin sandwich ($14.99) served on a hamburger bun with all the usual condiments and veggies and a Green Bean side dish. The pork was fried crispy and very moist inside. She really enjoyed it. The green beans were delicious, cooked with onion and green pepper. A perfect side. I ordered the Cowboy Breakfast ($10.99) served in a skillet. Crisp fried potatoes topped with a tasty chili with beans, cheese, 2 eggs cooked as you like, and I added grilled onion. Toast was included. A very filling dish that I would recommend. They close mid-afternoon so consider them for breakfast or lunch. read more

Had breakfast here this morning. Nothing to write home about. I had the #7. Biscuits & Gravy with 2 eggs and bacon. The one word to desribe the meal is "BLAND". Other than the taste of pepper, the gravy had no flavor at all. Neither did the biscuits. I couldn't taste the difference between either. The wife had the pecan waffle and it was bone dry. Definitley not worth the $30 price tag. We didn't even have coffee. read more

Two stars because it's local. Otherwise our breakfast was below par. I had the skillet, it was tasteless. It's obvious they use the cheapest ingredients. Of course my eggs were cooked wrong, the sausage came out in nice little cubes. The potatoes had no taste. The sever never bothered to serve us a second cup of coffee. The booths are very tight. You literally have to squeeze in and out of them.We rarely go out to eat with the exception of our favorite restaurants, mainly because the food, service, and cost just isn't worth it. We all love honesty right? Yes, if you are a first timer it looks like a place your walking into to play bingo. Don't let that turn you off. The food is always delicious. My order was even wrong, I asked for American cheese and they gave my like a jack cheddar, which I was bummed about, but still delicious nonetheless. When you walk in, there's no real waiting area, and the restaurant was busy! They told us we could sit anywhere we liked. There were only 2 seats at the same table as another family, so we decided to wait. Others sat down after us at this seats. Unfortunately, there's not much room to be picky. A gentleman left, and we took over his table. They wiped down the table with a rather smelly rag. But everything else seemed very clean. I ordered the #2- 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, potatoes and toast. There are several options to spice that up such as your choice of an English muffin or biscuits instead of toast and sausage instead of eggs. It's a very simple breakfast choice. My husband ordered the French toast with 2 eggs and bacon. Both of us ordered the eggs over medium (which many restaurants seem to not understand), and the same held true here. The eggs were runny and over easy. My husband loved the flavor of the French toast. I felt my potatoes didn't have enough flavor. They were homemade with peppers and onions, but nothing was super special about them. The staff was nice and friendly and seemed to like working there. People seemed happy to be there. And with no real other breakfast joint in the area, I could tell why it was crowded. I really wish I could have given it 5 stars, but I wasn't super impressed. It was good food but not amazing. We used to come here a fair amount, but hadn't eaten at Mama's Kitchen for a few years. There is a sign on the window advertising for a cook, and boy howdy do they need one. I got the cowboy, which was potatoes, chili, cheese and eggs. Hard to mess up, right? It was under seasoned, and the chili appears to be either made by someone who doesn't understand the concept or to be the cheapest nastiest canned stuff anyone could buy. Either way, it was sour and bitter, like it'd turned. My daughter's corned beef hash was similar in texture to scrapple, for those familiar with the Maryland dish made from fried ground pork snout, but with next to no seasoning. The other dishes served were also under seasoned and, where applicable, unpleasantly sweet. We had to pop to the Safeway across the street for parfait to get the taste out of our mouths. No one was able to finish - and it's not super cheap either. A real shame. The service was good, but that's about all this place has going for it. read more

Service was wonderful! Our wait staff checked on us frequently and were very friendly. I got the Eggs Benedict but substituted tomato for ham. It was delicious! Perfect Hollandaise sauce and veggies (tomatoes and spinach) were cooked perfectly. The hash browns were good as well. Crispy on top, which I like. Coffee was very good. My fiance ordered French Toast. He said it was very good and was happy that they had sugar-free syrup. I tried a couple of his fried potatoes which had a few red peppers and onions. The potatoes didn't taste or look homemade to me but my fiance liked them. I rate the food 4 1/2 stars. Also, the meat choices are limited. If you don't eat pork don't expect options like turkey bacon or sausage. Overall though it is wonderful and we would go back! read more

We visited on a Saturday morning, around 9am. We were immediately greeted and told to sit anywhere. As soon as we sat down we were greeted by our server with coffee. Very nice! We took a few minutes to go over the menu because it was our first visit. Placed our order and our food was served to us very quickly. The food was delicious and well served! Our cups of coffee were constantly filled. Nice atmosphere, very friendly staff and great food! New to GV and we definitely found our breakfast spot! read more

This is my 3rd time posting this but Yelp isn't working. So to get my point across one last time. Don't go here, go to Dennys or Jerry Bob's instead food would be better. The price you pay isn't worth the little food provided. Tasted bland and dry. The service very much gave the vibe of being in a hospital cafeteria. The waitresses weren't happy to be there. In this economy, mom-pop shops need to have love in their establishments. You really should be children-friendly (you need kid's menus and crayons) it won't break the bank. You also need to have respect for veterans and provide them a discount, or a free cup of coffee, or a simple thank you. I overheard you just say "No, no military discount" to that vet not even thanking him for his service. Remember it's for men and women like him that you have the freedom to have your establishment. I called and said I needed breakfast on the go I could eat on the road. Got a beautiful breakfast burrito with bacon, egg, cheese, potato, mushroom, onion and peppers. They toasted it and gave me fresh salsa on the side. So delicious and less the $8! The staff were so friendly and the restaurant was small but clean.
