I got my hair cut this morning with Katie in Durham. I came in with long, blah hair and wanted to get a pixie cut (I'd been thinking about it for a while) and Katie was really excited... I was still a bit nervous but she was great at looking at the pics I had on my phone and modifying the style for me. She asked about what products I use (none) and recommended a few options, but didn't press me to purchase any products there which was awesome as someone who gets uncomfortable with shopping decisions :) All in all it was a great experience and I left with a completely new look! read more

I had some terrible layers going in from a previous cut (a different salon) and she have me a great new do. She was super friendly and really took the time to figure out exactly what I wanted. I LOVE this place. Alissa does my hair and she's AMAZING. She has cut and styled my hair on various occasions, and even styled my hair for my wedding this summer. Every time she does my hair I am completely satisfied and I walk out of my appointments feeling prettier and more confident than before. In August I won a free American Wave perm from Moshi Moshi and I love my new beach waves. The people here are lovely, the atmosphere is pleasant and I recommend it to everyone I know. Moshi Moshi is fabulous! I hadn't had a real haircut in over 5 months and Alissa revived my hair! It's hard to find a stylist who knows how to cut short hair, but Moshi Moshi has plenty to choose from! I let Alissa know the basics of what I wanted and where I didn't want it cut too short, etc and then let her play....needless to say, the result is perfection! I always forget how much a good haircut can affect your day-to-day life...and the stylists at Moshi Moshi are always a positive reminder. You guys are the best! read more

I absolutely love this place. Today was my first visit and I couldn't be happier with the services I received. The location is very easy to find and the salon is very open and bright with tea and muffins/cupcakes while you wait. I had my service, cut & color, with Mary and she did an amazing job. I've been going to Moshi Moshi for about a year now. I'd been searching for a permanent home for my hair styling, and this is it. I did have one lackluster cut, but that stylist is gone. My new stylist Alissa is AMAZINGLY talented, has an intuitive knack for hair, and really views it as an art. I got color with her for the first time yesterday and it was glorious. I am delightfully blonde once again. And it looks so natural! Since Alissa was fully booked after that, I had my haircut with Meredith, who did an excellent job and exactly what I asked. The prices are also very, very reasonable compared to other salons I've tried. Reception is always friendly, there's wifi, and there are refreshing beverages. If only I could get my hair done every week! read more

I'm very disappointed by my experience with Moshi Moshi. I scheduled an appointment with Macail last Monday at 11am for a cut and balayage. This is both an expensive and time-consuming appointment to make and thus requires schedule re-arranging. They called me at 8:45am to cancel my appointment because she was sick. Ok... getting sick happens. They called me somewhat early to let me know. After some debate about whether or not to reschedule there, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and made an appointment with Macail for the next Monday (today) at 2pm. I was called by the salon today at 1:15pm to cancel my appointment because she had to leave early due to her dog being ill. I don't know if this is simply bad luck or the sign of a very flighty hair stylist. The receptionist who called me was vaguely apologetic but did not offer me anything other than the opportunity to reschedule my appointment for the 3rd time. Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of being cancelled again. I understand that circumstances arise, but this just had the feeling of bad business and lack of commitment to clients. I'll stick to a more reliable salon in town. read more

Moved to the area a few months ago and avoided getting a haircut because it's not that easy to find a reliable hair salon. Read the reviews on yelp and decided to give Moshi Moshi a try. Mary had great reviews so I went with her---so glad I did. the salon is bright and spacious, puts you in a good mood when you walk in. I told Mary what I wanted--basically low maintenance--didn't care how long or short it was--and she gave me a super cute bob. She is pleasant and very easy to make conversation with. Will definitely be back the next time I need a haircut! read more

Awesome place! I came here on a Friday for a partial highlight root touchup + trim. Loved the ambiance: minimalistic and a little quirky. My stylist was super friendly and knew exactly what I wanted, almost without me having to tell her. I sometimes get sticker shock at salons that find strange upcharges to tack on, but I was pleasantly surprised to see they stuck to their published prices.. I love love the way it turned out, and the value was unbeatable. I will definitely be returning! read more

I have to say, first of all, that I love this salon. I've had my hair cut by Catlin who always does a great job as well as by Katie (no longer there) who was also awesome. However, this past Monday I went for the two for one deal to get a cut with my sister and I was booked with Macail. For the first time I have to say that I'm not totally in love with the cut. I took a couple pics along and was hoping to go back to a cut that Catlin did a year ago but it didn't really turn out that way. I think Macail is probably a great stylist, because all the stylists are good there, but short edgy styles may not be her forte. Anyway, I'm still in love with this place and will be back. read more

If you are looking for a good balayage/hair color these is NOT your place. I was there a couple of months ago and I'm still trying to recover my hair color. I'm a brunette I wanted just a balayage retouch and I ended up with my hair ORANGE and even after trying to fix it, they just couldn't do it. They tone my hair 5 times that day and I had to go back a couple of days laters to redo the whole process and STILL my hair looks orange/redish. What is was supposed to be a good experience turned into a nightmare. They refund me part of the cost and gave me some products, but really don't go there if you love your hair. read more

I didn't get my haircut for 2 years (yah, I know- bad) but had wavy hair down to my butt. I hate getting my haircut but finally bit the bullet. Glad I did because MARY was fantastic. She's super sweet, listens well, and just knows how to handle curly hair. I left with a good change- nothing drastic- but my hair feels light and healthy again. She gave me some good suggestions for my hair type too. I will definitely be going back to her! It was $47 for he haircut, not including tip. Read all the positive reviews on yelp and decided to go in for a cut ( long overdue). I can see why they have so many positive reviews. Mary did an amazing job. My haircut was exactly what I wanted. After moving across the country, and away from a hair stylist I loved, I was really worried that it would be difficult to find another great stylist here. However, I struck gold on my first try! My hair is very long and wavy/loosely curly, which can be tricky. Sachie did an amazing job, and made it look fantastic. My hair has a new lease on life, and looks healthy and vibrant now thanks to her. She knew exactly what to do and listened to my thoughts as well. I love Moshi Moshi! I have been getting my haircut at the chapel hill Moshi Moshi for about 5 years. I moved to Durham, and started going to this location. I absolutely love the service I get at this hair salon. Mary does a great job cutting my hair - she really understands how to do your hair according to how you style it everyday. I recently got partial balayage by Micail - AND I LOVE IT! I was very skeptical getting my hair colored since I have jet black hair. All I had to do was tell her that I was going for a subtle sunkissed look, and she nailed it. I like the laid-back chic vibe of the salon, as well. Sidenote: make sure to bring cash for a tip! They have an ATM in the salon if you forget. read more

I am usually not one to write complaints to companies and unfortunately this is the first time I've ever had to write one. I had my first appointment today, but my GPS guided me to the wrong direction and I wasted so much time on the road. So I was late about 10~15mins but right in front of the place. Then I received a phone call from a receptionist who said I already missed my appointment and must reschedule. She said they have 15mins opening and there is another customer right after me. I understand their policy and everything but this was only time I could get my hair done in this month. So I almost begged and said I just needed to get a trim. But the receptionist(or stylist) doesn`t seem to care and insisted that I`d reschedule. This is not professionalism but arrogance. I hope you learn how to accomodate a customer. A friend of mine who always has spectacular eyebrows referred me to Chelsea. When I called, the super-nice receptionist fit me into the schedule on the same day. Chelsea exceeded all my expectations, which were already high. She was extremely detailed and careful in waxing and coloring. Because I was so impressed, I asked if she had any extra time to do a blowout. She generously squeezed me in while her other client was letting her color sit. The last time I had my brows done was by a celebrity stylist who works out of LA and NYC. I can honestly say that I am just as pleased with the work Chelsea did, and will definitely be returning to her on a regular basis. I feel so much more confident and beautiful having my brows looking great. Also, Chelsea is the first person I've ever come across in 30 years of going to salons in different cities across the US who is trichotillomania-literate. It was such a relief not needing to define the word or explain myself. She was so understanding and compassionate. read more

I had my hair cut, colored and highlighted in Miami by my stylist for my daughter's wedding in January. I did not want to lose the highlights, but the grey was growing in, the highlights were fading, and I needed help!! I made an appointment with Jaime (recommended), and today was the first time ever (!) she saw me, with grey roots, faded color, and 7 weeks of growing out. I am ALWAYS nervous to sit in a new stylist's chair. But Jaime and I communicated perfectly, and she colored my roots PERFECTLY, and ran the color through at the end, and now my grey is gone and I look refreshed!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jaime, Thank You So Much for the job you did on my hair!!! The salon (I have never been to Moshi Moshi before, btw) is light, open, stylish, comfortable, and very Zen-y. I adore Moshi Moshi. I used to go to their location in Chapel Hill, but I switched over to the Durham location when it opened. I have been so incredibly pleased both times I have gone and gotten a haircut from Jess. Scheduling - easy, atmosphere- funky, which I liked, and my stylist recommended and used great products. However, my haircut is a sad situation. I have pretty curly hair and wanted it relayered in the front and back and a few inches off, so granted, it wasn't just a trim. But I also brought in pictures of the feel I wanted with nice layers and a picture of me with short hair and said I did NOT want to go back to that short. So she starts cutting it, and I see that wet aka longer than it will be dry, is shorter than the picture we agreed to use for length. And I realize when I get home the cut has no layers in the front and hangs like a triangle around my head and ends up being even SHORTER than my picture of what I didn't want. Basically, if I was 12 years old it would be super. I guess she interpreted when I said I liked a low maintenance cut to mean I didn't give a crap about how I looked. I mean I guess the back looks good. She had really seemed to be listening when we talked about what I wanted, so it was kind of confusing. Pretty much all I can do now is wait for it to grow out. Won't be returning. Edit: Just took a shower, and I had two pieces with about 20 strands each that were about THREE INCHES LONGER in the back that I just had to cut. I don't know how that could have been missed. read more
