I've lived and worked on Elmwood for about 4 years and driven by Moriaty Meats more times that I can count . But I thought it was only a deli, with amazing take out burgers, yes I heard about the burgers. It wasnt until my good friend Zoe told me her good friend works there and I would love this place !! Might i say my friends know me well,lol. So NOW I know there is a deli BUT also a cafe!! A very cute cafe, with extremly pleasant staff and amazingly fresh and tasty fare. So yes I heard the about burger but the pork cutlet sounded absolutely delightful. Therefore, the waitress recommended we cut each it in half and my sister and I split them. Sounded great to us !! My sister started with the burger, when she took her first bite I literally watched the juice from burger drip from her mouth....no exaggeration!!! So wild !! My turn !! This burger was so good, not gonna lie i crave this burger!! Its easily my fave burger since Allen Burger Venture closed. Now the pork cutlet itself was bigger than the bun. The lemon caper mayo is light yet tangy I added a lil hot sauce. I forgot I was eating a pork chop. Another great sandwhich fresh, simple and just good. I loved everything about this spot(minus parking lol) This cute cafe connected to their butcher shop is a vibe. We came in, ended up ordering takeout, as all seats were taken, and they do not take orders unless you have a seat. But take out was fine, gave me time to walk around and view the cafe and the butcher shop. It's a small venue but quaint. The staff was amazing! So friendly. We chatted up and they gave me a lot of information on their menu, and the wine dinners that they host. The food..amazing! We got the fired chicken sandwhich, which was absolutely delicious, need I say one of my top favorites! The chicken was crusted, fried and cooked to perfection, and I love pimento cheese, this was a slam dunk for me. We also tried the French dip, again just delicious. They change the menu quarterly. Also tried a side of the Spanish potato salad, again great! I'd compare this to the Spanish version of German potato salad. While I waited for the food I went over to the butcher shop, which was cool to see them actually butchering in one section. I bought some jalapeno and pepper jack sausages as well as some Merguez sausages which are beef and lamb sausages. Can't wait to try them. We came for lunch on Saturday and sat at the bar. We were taken care of by Sara, who made recommendations and answered our many questions. We ordered the burger and roast beef sandwich. The burger was very tasty and the gluten free roll was good. The roast beef was perfectly cooked, stacked high on a delicious house made roll. We ordered the red pepper infused potato salad, which was very good. Many of the Tapas that we were interested in trying were already sold out for the day. This lovely place has a free parking lot. We were visiting from Dallas for a football game and we decided to stop by. My Wife found them on TikTok and we came in specifically for the beef on sandwich. Only words I can describe this as is heavenly! The roast beef is so tender just melts the sauce they put on is amazing and the homemade bread is out of this world. I'm hoping they can ship some meat for me back to Texas but either way cannot wait to come back. This is definitely somewhere you need to stop for a great meal. read more

This place is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood and they are very helpful. From basic meats to fancy meats, they usually have you covered! I love that they will either paper wrap it (if you're using it right away) or vacuum seal it (if you want to throw it in the freezer). The steak melts in your mouth! My favorites so far are: Prepackaged stir fry cubes Beef Denver steak Variety of hamburgers Duck breast Marrow bones for my dogs! This is my go to spot for meats. They have a variety of other things too (including frozen items I haven't really looked at yet) like bacon, chicken, pork, sausage, and ground meats. How have I never written a review of Moriartys Cafe? I love this place and we frequently stop here for lunch before going to Wegmans to shop so we don't shop hungry. The potato salad on the tapas menu is a must have and I wish I had the recipe. With its red pepper olive oil and vinegar base it is really so delicious, decadent and refreshing. I love trying new tapas items and frequently get all of the $2.50 options. If there is a sandwich on focaccia you can bet that bread was made in house and that it's amazing. Get it. I recently had the best salad of my life here as well which was roasted beets, arugula, nuts and goat cheese with a really nice mustard based vinaigrette. We have also done paid special four course dinners with wine pairings here with friends and the experience has been lovely and equally delicious. I really can't say enough. Instantly when I walked in, I fell in love. The ambiance is stellar, the service is wonderful and the food - if I could have one sandwich the rest of my life, it would be the sandwiches here. It is that good. Also, they have gluten free rolls, so that is a win! My boyfriend and I saddled up at the bar. We shared a beet and strawberry salad, which was delicious. We had never thought to put the two together. I went with the burger with a gluten free bun. That burger was one of the best I have tasted. It was simple, but yet so complex. My boyfriend went with the roast beef and he enjoyed it. The roast beef looked like how I like to eat it, and honestly my mouth was watering looking at his food. Rainy day. Missed the parking lot twice. Tiny marital spat before we actually found it. Thrilled we found it. Saved the marriage. Jk but it could! It really could. We were celebrating so we sat at the bar and enjoyed champagne before our food got there. The space alone is enchanting and worth the visit. And Hannah, our bar tender was so much fun and made the experience seem even more elevated. The Brussels looks unassuming. They aren't the fried fan favorite of so many places. But they packed a big punch. We ate the few leftovers with our breakfast the next morning, still yummy. We spent 20 minutes while eating and then the entire ride home trying to figure out how to recreate them. Burgers and weck. You can get these items anywhere in WNY but these were special. The beef on weck was so tender and flavorful. Plus, the roll, come on! The Burger was like, and I mean this is the best way, what Mr. McDonalds imagined his burger could be if it had perfectly medium cooked burger with those crispy edges and thin, vinegar pickles. The food here is absolutely delicious, nearly perfect! And, I'd be surprised if anyone disagreed once they tried it. We went for lunch on a Friday about noon. It's a small space with two top tables, bar tables and bar seating. I was initially a little confused as to what to do when we walked in. There's no sign at first to direct you. I assumed there'd be table service, and there is...kind of. What you're supposed to do is go ahead and pick a table and then get your menu from a service stand near one end of the bar. This is also where you'll order and pay once you choose what you want. Your food and drinks are brought to you still (and cleared for you), it was good service...I was just confused initially. This place feels pretty upscale, but casual. It's not really a linger-around kind of casual, though...the crowd and bustling around keep it from being a very relaxing environment for me. I read in other reviews that this is a European style cafe, but I don't know anything about that. We were in and out very quickly. They are only open for lunch, from 11 am to 4 pm. The portions are a little smaller for WNY and the prices are too; I'd like to see more of that around here (smaller portions at lower prices). Neat cafe with quick and friendly service. Retro-international vibe. There were about 4 entrees on the menu, as well as a specials menu that includes tapas. There were plenty of drink options (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and I opted for the unsweetened iced tea, which was served on ice and garnished with a lemon wheel, it was refreshing! The shashlik was pretty good, as well as both the tapas we tried. You probably shouldn't be surprised by the name, but there are very limited vegetarian options. Finally stopped in, just for a snack. Have been wanting to eat here for at least a few years! Ordered a tapas, the name of which I cannot reproduce (soprasados?), but it was a single crostini with a sausage spread. It was delicious, but just one for $2.50, so I thought it was overpriced. Also ordered the Pintxos Morunos which was 2 skewers with really well-seasoned chunks of meat, 3 large chunks/skewer. Totally worth the $10.00! Wish it had come on a bed of brown rice, or with a whole wheat pita or some type of carb...but this is a minor flaw. Would definitely order it again. Went here for lunch recently and loved it. The vibe is going for an European Cafe style and they hit it pretty close as far as I can tell. Their menu is small but oh so good... More on that soon. There is a placard on every table that encourages you to not use your phone while there and instead talk to people. I'm not sure if it's seat yourself or if you need to check in at the pay station that is towards the back. They don't offer full table service. You need to go up to the pay station to place your order and they then bring it to you. Now let's talk about the food. First is the tappas, what I had was awesome. They are reasonably priced and oh so good. Full disclosure I just asked for ones that looked good and the first one had ham and housemade mustard, delish, and another that had shrimp also delish. They were just one bite and the flavors danced across my tongue in the most delightful manner. I also got the porchetta sandwich and oh boy talk about flavor. It was exquisitely prepared and I ate it as slowly as I could so I could savor every bite. The pork skin was perfectly rendered and so crispy. The pork itself so tender and flavorful and juicy. I will be back for sure. It's worth noting that with their butcher shop next door they are butchering and preparing all their Meats including the sausages. Please I implore you to go here. Was excited to find this palace but left disappointed. A cafe with no cappuccino or latte They don't have a milk frother or anything to heat milk I was served a cold coffee. They had no way of heating up milk! Had to cancel my order cause of bad vibes from staff, not a friendly place. Maybe they were rushed or something cause they just opened - but just walk down the corner and start your morning with good vibes and great breakfast at some other place. The ham & potato coquettes at Moriarty Meats Cafe are the BEST THING I ate last weekend, and one of the best things I've eaten since moving to Buffalo. First of all, they arrived very hot on a very cold day- so hot that when you split one open, steam gushed out- and almost the soft insides too, if not careful. Perfect. I couldn't tell if the filling contained any cheese- but it was a very loose, aromatic potato puree with absolutely glorious, little chunks of ham mixed in. Maybe thyme-infused oil or something else herby and piquant too? Carefully salted- just enough to make the potato taste more like itself. An exquisite balance. I ate it while it was still too hot and burning my fingers a little because I couldn't wait. It comes topped with a dollop of seasoned mayonnaise (tastes like kewpie- the BEST) that's such a lovely addition- I spread it out over as much of the outside as I could in between bites. I'm not sure if these were deep-fried or air-fried or what, but they were CRISP. My only suggestion for improvement... "If they have a deep fat fryer," my partner asked, "why don't they make beef tallow fries?" I think these may have been a special, so I hope they keep them on the menu ! read more

Nifty addition to Moriarty Meats! Tapas, cocktails, beer, wine, tasty non-alcoholic drinks, too. Naturally, there are delicious meat dishes from Moriarty Meats, but the tapas include vegetarian things like peppers and olives so there is something for you if you don't eat meat. When the weather is nice, there is seating outside. Inside, there are tables of different sizes and a very nice bar with communal seating and a grand mirror behind that makes it feel even more roomy. The large windows and windowed door in front bring in lots of natural light, plus a view of life passing by on Elmwood. Check out the tin ceiling and the chandelier, too. I've only tried one entree, so far. The portion size seems enough to feel you've eaten but you won't have leftovers, and prices seem average for similar things elsewhere. Flavors are excellent and plating is lovely. You certainly aren't getting things literally fresh from the butcher in the same spot anywhere else and the flavor and freshness are notable. Plus, if you really like what you've eaten, you can go right next door and buy the ingredients to make more at home from Moriarty Meats proper. Unique and delicious. They encourage an atmosphere that is both social and a space away from the stresses of every day. But if you're by yourself, they do have smaller tables. We love to come here for expert advice on unique cuts of meat and the bacon!! It's thick sliced and barely shrinks! Today we stopped for lunch after a bike ride. Sat outside on their sidewalk patio.. beautiful. Husband had the burger and it was perfect! I had the chicken sandwich which was very good but too much mayo, I'll ask for light next time. One suggestion, the website says "roasted" chicken sandwich, which is what I wanted. My husband went in to order while I enjoyed the sunshine.. the sandwich actually was fried... the website should be updated to reflect what the menu really is. My husband and I have been visiting Buffalo on a regular basis for the past year or so....and decided upon doing some research that we would check out Moriarty Meats in addition to a few small italian grocery stores in the same neighborhood. It was lunchtime and the new cafe (around a month open) was open. We sat at the bar and ordered the best sandwiches we have had in a long long time. Fresh, delicious, every touch point perfect. He had the Beef on a Weck and I had a special sausage that was floating on a cloud of a pita served with an oil topping with sesame seeds and pistachios. It was absolute heaven. The team working there were kind, thoughtful and funny and we elbowed each other with glee that we now had a new favorite. Move ahead 2 days, and we were back to a crowded spot, again--sublime food--and from what I saw, every single thing on the small menu was perfection, delicious and devoured by happy customers. After this lovefest, (this was on a Friday), we walked over to the meat market to be stunned by the selection of meat, fish, frozen prepared meats, all sorts of burgers (beef, or lamb or beef with spices), special sausages, rabbit, shellfish etc. The folks who were working the counter knew their products and were very helpful and fast. Choice of packaging--wrapped in paper or cryovac for the freezer. Truly, if you have a hankering for a delicious lunch, or tapas and a drink mid-afternoon--or if you are wanting a treat for dinner during the weekend, make time to go to this marvel. Delicious lunch of middle eastern sausage with chickpea's in sauce with a perfect fresh baked flat bread. Great and friendly service. Had the recommended pink leamonade very nice. All of are party wandered over the butcher side and we're treated as old friends our questions answered with a genuine friendliness.
