My new go-to day-time spot on the West Side. I have been longing for a great coffee house/restaurant in this neighborhood ever since Sweetness 7 closed, and I think this is it. Love all the old wood feel of the tables and booths. The umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and the art work give the place a quirky, laid-back, hippie vibe. The menu was huge, not just the printed one, but the ones on the wall as well. All the staff are so kind, not just like service polite, but genuinely kind. I stopped in after a hard and hectic morning, and they were so patient when I was slow to order, even making a suggestion for me when I admitted I was suffering a bit from decision fatigue. I ended up eating the same thing the guy serving me was making for his own lunch, which turned out to be like an egg and cheese between hash brown patties. Also the latte art was so sweetly beautiful. I just cannot stress enough how welcome and cared for I felt, and I honestly went in with no such expectations. read more

This worker-ownerd cooperstive coffee shop has a flat top grill and serves French toast, pancakes, avocado toast and other items. They have oat milk and cow milk, coffee, tea, cacao, and espresso drinks. Place has a healthy vibe, doesn't serve meat, and promotes wellness. They have tempeh bacon, some vegan, and mostly vegetarian items. I ordered a large oatmilk latte to go. The cashier asked if I wanted it hot or iced and I said, "hot". When they put a small, iced latte in a glass mug on the counter, I assumed it was for one of the other customers. It went unclaimed, more drinks went by, and when the people behind me in line collected their drinks, I finally told the barrista I ordered a large, hot, oat milk latte. They then made me a small hot oat milk latte but I had been there so long it wasn't worth correcting them again. It wasn't the barrista's fault- despite what I ordered, my email reciept shows the cashier rang it up as a medium iced latte. The drink itself was good and I didn't see anyone else having these problems, so I feel bad giving a 1 or 2 star review. But, it was so hot and muggy in there at 10am - no AC and at least 10 degrees warmer than outside, and much more humid. Sign outside said they open at 8am but at 10am they were sweeping and giving off "we just opened" vibes. Oatmilk was a $1.40 upcharge on the medium size. Types of milk and milk upcharges were not listed anywhere. I had never seen this place before, it wasn't on Yelp, and they had stuff piled in the corners, so I figured it was pretty new and planned to give them a, "looks like they're still figuring things out" type of review. Turns out it has been open almost a year. Coffee is fair trade, so that's positive. I really wanted to like this place but between the order snafu, the mugginess, and the exorbitant oat milk upcharge which is not listed anywhere (and I've never seen more than 75 cents), not even being a worker owned cooperative was enough for me to bump this place up. If 3 stars equals, "A-OK", this place is just below that. read more

This might easily become my favorite coffee shop in Buffalo. Interior design in a coffee shop is super important to me, and this place was so cozy on the inside. The brown colors with the brick back wall was such a good environment for studying and enjoying coffee. Both the drinks and food were super tasty. The breakfast sandwich was on a bread hive bagel, so I knew it was going to be great. The workers were super cool and had a chill laid back vibe. I will definitely be coming back often! read more

I enjoyed the space and vibe--mellow, quiet, I was able to work. I had been hoping this would be a place I'd begin to go to often. But my coffee was barely warm. I think it came from a thermos which maybe isn't keeping temperature. Then when I asked for a splash of milk, the cup overflowed, and I ended up with a lot of milk and not much coffee, probably making it colder. I asked if it could be heated up, and a shot of steam (I guess?) was added. The cup was then watery froth which didn't even taste like coffee. Sigh. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich. Felt like things had not been thought through on the food level. The bagel was cold. The raw kale struck me as an odd addition. The tomato was cold. The egg was barely cooked, so runny that handling it in a sandwich was a very messy experience. I can understand a runny egg in a bowl or plate of food, though I prefer a firmer egg myself. For a handheld item, it was absurd and disappointing. I didn't realize it was a worker owned cooperative until later. Surprised...the folks staffing did not seem to be into being there and were outside about half the time I was there. No particular friendliness or engagement with customers, not even a hello. Great coffee, robust taste! The staff was friendly and the owner made it a point to say hi! The first review (2 stars) must be the exception not the norm. A minor mistake they chose to not correct in the end, the weather or a common oat milk up charge (Starbucks is 2.00) should not deter you from stopping in. They are close to the near Catholic Church and provide Sunday morning for the patrons! Overall, worth a visit and highly recommended! read more

Where do I begin? This space is mindfully cultivated, with it being clear the worker-owners have put their entire heart and soul into the space. There are things on the menu it can be difficult to find other places- like ceremonial cacao, and a breakfast sandwich on the west side of buffalo that is ACTUALLTY GOOD without egg patties or other weird ways of prep. These breakfast sandwiches are served fresh to order with locally sourced ingredients. They have a wide selection of tea for those who don't care for coffee or cacao. They have fresh baked good, and great lunch and breakfast menu- where breakfast is served all day. I couldn't help but notice another review stating they had been open over a year in June 2023...but their grand opening wasn't until July of 2023. So the review that spoke of the space being underprepared was there before the grand opening even happened.... so some context would've helped her review. They hadn't even officially opened yet. Probably still working out some kinks ;) The decor is whimsical and joyful feeling, and the people working there play great music and seem to really enjoy working in the space. I am so full of gratitude for a space like this on the west side. Highly recommend to anyone. read more

I always go-to their breakfast sandwich and a latte. On a Sunday morning I pop in for a hot cacao before walking next door to their gathering space for a yoga session. They are continuously getting more involved in the West Side community and I love having them here with us! read more

I'm very sad that I can't leave a positive review for this business that has the potential to be a west side gem. Every time I've visited The Healing Grounds, I've been pleased to enjoy kind service and well-prepared drinks. Unfortunately, every time I've visited The Healing Grounds, I've also had the displeasure of sharing the space with off-leash dogs who are allowed to freely roam the restaurant. For our asthmatic-allergic family, the risk of being hassled by an unleashed dog at an indoor food service establishment is completely unacceptable. From a public health perspective, the practice of allowing unleashed dogs in a dining room and kitchen is objectively disgusting. I was shocked to see the unleashed dogs on my first visit and disappointed on subsequent visits to learn that The Healing Grounds routinely welcomes unleashed dogs in the restaurant. I hope to see this business update their hygiene practices soon so the community can benefit from what would otherwise be a lovely spot to grab a latte and read a book. read more

We are so happy to have a friendly local cafe back in this building! Healing Grounds couldn't be better. Every plate I've ordered has been delicious and made from exceptional ingredients, and the shocking affordability is the cherry on top. They really infuse care into their dishes, adding them to the list of quality, slow food cafes with a chill ambiance, which is lovely on a relaxed weekend morning. But when we needed something to go, we were delighted to find they recently joined DoorDash, allowing us to order for pick up, get ready for the day, and walk over for our coffee or cacao on our way to work.
