I dragged my mother in here one torrential day on a trip out to Rhinebeck. What other reviewers call stodgy and dated decor felt like home to me. The painted walls and ancient lighting make you feel a little warmer and cosier inside when it's cold and wet outside. Service was fantastic. Food was old-school excellent without being expensive. I am awarding two stars instead of one because the ambience of Morgan House seemed nice, and the dishes that were whizzing by our noses sure looked lovely... Woulda been nice to actually EAT some of that food, but after two unsuccessful attempts, it was plainly clear that the Morgan House was not interested in our business... We showed up for lunch on the day after Christmas, which is a federal holiday this year. I'd call that a plainly forseeable reason for an increase in business. Long story short: They were understaffed and completely unprepared for this... Despite 2/3 of the restaurant being empty, we were told we would "have to wait 5-10 minutes to be seated, because the kitchen was backed up." They couldn't just SEAT us? They had to relegate us to the BAR? Please... totally unacceptable service. After waiting more than 10 minutes to be shown a chair, god forbid, the waitress comes over, and tells us that two of the lunch menu items were not being offered, one of which was a dish we were planning on ordering... We'd had it. We left, and went to Salmon Run down the street (great choice, btw). Despite this egregious episode of incredulous events, we actually decided to go back on Tuesday for dinner to give them a second chance. They were CLOSED! Unreal. Now i know a lot of restaurants are closed on Tuesdays, but in a ski town during the week between X-mas and New Year's? That's just plain stupid... We won't be back a third time. On a whim we stopped at Morgan House for lunch , and it turned out to be a very good choice. The ambiance is that of a friendly historic home/inn right on Main Street in Lee. We started our meals with a side salad ($5) and the soup du jour which was a creamy squash soup ($6). The salad was fresh with a good mix of greens, and the soup was delicious; not too heavy with a full flavor of lightly seasoned squash and just the right touch of creaminess. A nice dish. For our main courses we had the fish and chips; lightly battered and perfectly fried with no greasiness and a very good sized portion ($15). The only downside was that it came wrapped in paper, which is totally fine except the fries were also in the paper and they became slightly steamed taking away some of the crispiness. An easy fix. The beet salad was excellent. Quartered beets marinated to just the right level of tang served with goat cheese, bacon bits, and candied walnuts. ($12). Plenty filling as a main course. Although the desserts looked great, we passed because we had plenty to eat. Worth a stop. We will certainly return. read more

I took the family here because we were in Lee around dinner and we had never eaten here before. For the most part I enjoyed my meal. Our food was good and not overly expensive. Negatives, our table was very narrow and my son's knees and mine regularly hit each other. The table was also in front of the kitchen which was a bit disruptive. We did show with no reservation and they seated us right away so I can't really complain about the table. Service was ok, the waitress seemed a bit hard of hearing, nevertheless our food came correctly. She offered little explanation for any of the dishes. Fortunately, another server was happy to give us a thorough explanation. The name of the server who seems very knowledgeable and helpful is Eric, ask to be seated in his section. read more

We've eaten here over the years but this was the first time since Covid. There's been many changes in the area because of the pandemic. I have to say, the food was really good! I wanted fish and chips but they were out. I really hadn't thought about a plan b, so I ordered a burger. Well, it's likely the best burger I've ever had!! First, I like my beef on the more rare side (and most places won't do it because of the highly dangerous practice of consuming undercooked meat that I've been doing since I was a kid). They actually cooked my burger perfectly! The fries served with it were also the best I've eaten. Crispy and well flavored. My boyfriend had a chicken pasta dish that was also very good. Cocktails were not too expensive. We liked it so much we went a second time the week we were there! Highly recommend! read more

Garlic bread is a chewy dry crust. Nachos come with several almost-black chips. A "medium well" filet mignon is red in center. Wonderful food and great atmosphere. We started with the sage polenta and it was very good. I had the meat loaf sandwich, which was also excellent. I also tasted the turkey sandwich, which our waitress described as "a whole turkey dinner in one sandwich." It did not disappoint. The building is historic, but the restaurant is not resting on their laurels. Definitely a place to visit and a place to go back. Our service was excellent. The service was well below par, the table we sat at was very crooked. Our server was the only person on duty. This was a Monday afternoon, so can't imagine how it'd be on a busy day? As for the food, there's not much in this town, so doubt be fooled by the high star ratings. Had a wonderful experience here. The staff was extremely friendly. Vern, the owner and Pauline were terrific. And if Lou greets you, it's a good day. Food and drinks were very good. Our dinner at the Morgan House was mediocre to poor. My half duck was so overcooked it was ridiculous. My only thought was ....this tastes like a leftover from when? Reheated in a microwave? so chewy, dried out. And the Gran Marnier? Evaporated long ago. My husband's pot roast was acceptable comfort food. Our last disappointment was the cranberry bread pudding. A very small serving for $8.00...dry, not much taste. Can't believe how popular this restaurant is on the Yelp listing....we must have hit a very bad day. read more

Pauline makes the most perfect manhattan in the Berkshires! It is consistently the correct mix. We come from the act shoreline to enjoy some time in this area and ALWAYS make sure we go to the Morgan House to enjoy a " Pauline Manhattan". It has now become a tradition! read more

Having been fortunate enough to experience delicious meals in many Michelin-starred restaurants in our hometown of Manhattan, I can honestly say that my husband and I rank the food at the Morgan House as some of the best we've ever had. We make it a habit of eating here every time we vacation in the Berkshires, which is several times a year. The service is always prompt, the ambiance inviting, and the meals fantastic. I am an especially big fan of their salmon dishes, while my husband absolutely loved the kielbasa the last time we were there. Definitely stop in if you are in the area! read more

Ventured here on an attempt to avoid rest area food along The Mass Pike. The atmosphere is quaint and welcoming. The service staff and hostess were polite and helpful. The vegetable soup and chowder were both fresh and delicious! Probably the best veggie soup I've had in a restaurant! With two small children there was an ample children's menu and their food arrived quickly. My mother and I both ordered the turkey dinner. We agreed it was the best we've had in a restaurant! This place is so cute! My husband and I came here for a late lunch- the menu is very fairly priced and the amount of choices are not overwhelming like at other restaurants. It's historic and quiet and the food is delicious! Angel took very good care of us- she is attentive and friendly, even while working multiple tables. The portions are generous and dessert was great! Had a very nice dining experience at the Morgan House! The decor was a little dated but I felt that is what made it so cozy. We were seated right away and given a table right by the window. The menu is very nice and I found the prices very fair for the quality of food they serve. We had the Fillet Mignon with asparagus and whipped potatoes and everything was prepared perfectly! The steak was just the way I asked it prepared and it could actually melt in your mouth! The meal came with a salad, I do wish it was larger but the ranch dressing was the best I ever had! The dessert list is very nice too and I forced myself to have a piece of carrot cake. It was delicious and full of walnuts. Overall I give Morgan House a 9 out of 10. I would have given it a 10 if the salad wasn't so small but I still left very satisfied and filled!!! read more

Had been visiting Lee, Ma and the surrounding Berkshires with good friends for a few days and happened upon the Morgan House. Wonderful find. Congenial atmosphere and excellent American fare, and a good pour on the cocktails. Can recommend the half duck and and trout that was served at our table. We went back a second time on a Friday night and that was really special. We were served the strip steak and prime rib. Both were excellent. The evening was made special by the performer Joey Palermo. Apparently she performs every Friday night. In stead of a normal Friday dinner we stayed over 3 hours slow dancing the night away. Joeys music selection was as delightful as her voice. Loved her song book on Patsy Kline among others. Perfect for a dance between servings and soft enough not to interfere with our table conversation. Certainly wish we lived closer. read more

Isnt run properly. One guy says 20 mins, next guy says the wait is an hour. Come back in 5 mins, ask to split the party, giy says we have nothing. Tell him we were just here, then he says hold on, and then we are seated immediately. Seriously...no seriously...WTF?????? Know your restaurant. Ordered the special. Theyre out of it. At 6 pm. Out of the freaking special. There are 5 tables of people while we eat and 10 with reserved cards but empty. The ENTIRE time we are there. What the living *** is wrong with this picture???. They have no clue how to run a restaurant. Meal comes, small portion. No taste. Beans are bland, potatoes are bland, steak, a petit filet, which is supposed to be 6 oz, is more like 3. Ordered it medium, shows up well done. I asked to give the check to me as soon as I sat down, waiter gives it to the other table at the end!! This place is the WORST!!! I wont return. I was in Pittsfield visiting my sister and had been driving all around creation and back running errands. Stopped in because we were hungry and it was the first thing we saw that wasn't a fast food joint... we were very pleasantly surprised. She has a burger that looked absolutely fantastic and polished if off (which she almost never does) because it was so delicious. I had the chicken mac and cheese and it was amazing. I can't say enough about how wonderful the food was. It was midday and we had more errands to run so we didn't indulge in drinks from the bar, we just had tea instead. Our waitress wasn't overly talkative or friendly but she was polite and attentive. The service was spot on and overall it was a wonderful lunch. Way better than what we expected and not expensive. I'll definitely be eating there again next time I'm back in town! read more

Classic French onion soup done perfectly and my husband had a burger he was very happy with. Only slight misstep were the eggplant fries which were a little soggy. I've been to Morgan House many times under the pervious ownership and it was always enjoyable. Four of us had tried getting reservations last minute at other restaurants in the Berkshires for this past weekend and were out of luck at our very favorite spots due to early Valentine's reservations and local father daughter dances. Morgan House had plenty of room and we now understand why. We walked into an empty restaurant on a Saturday night, the lights were horrifically bright, the entire dinning room echoed, and there was no music on. Sparing the details of our dreary experience, our server was less than thrilled to be working, our food was just plain not good and the host was walking back and forth between the stand and the kitchen puffing an E cigarette in the dinning room! Yes, you read that correctly! The worst part of the evening followed me hours later though. Now, obviously I can't say this for 100% certain without a test result but I'm 99% sure that the food I ate for dinner (blackened salmon medium rare) is what made me violently ill within hours of consumption. I truly dislike that I had to write this negative review but when you set up a nice night out and spend money to enjoy a dinning experience somewhere, it should be just that, an experience. read more

I like the food at Morgan House, and have never gotten a bad meal here. The menu is small, and so far I haven't seen any specials, but what they offer is consistently well done. We last went on a Friday evening when they had their house lounge singer crooning jazz standards. The place was packed to capacity, and the atmosphere was like being at a75th anniversary celebration. They had insufficient staff to cover a full house and the wait times were ridiculous. Service at restaurants in the Berkshires can always be sketchy, but this was the worst. It was an hour from when we sat down to when we received our appetizers. Then, only after I spoke to the manager twenty minutes later, that our entrees arrived, but only two out of three. After ten minutes I went to him again and complained and finally our third entree came out. The extremely overworked waitress apologized profusely for the delays, but it was too little, too late. We sat down for dinner at 7:00 and didn't have all three entrees on the table until 8:30. The manager never came to our table to offer any compensation for their poor service- neither a drink or offer of dessert on the house, nothing. And, to top it all off, both times that I complained to him, I had to interrupt him from socializing with his friends. In busy restaurants, it's all hands on deck when the kitchen is slammed. I've seen bartenders, hostesses, maitre'ds, all helping out, running food from the kitchen, taking orders, cleaning up, whatever is required to get through the rush. Not here. The maitre'd is drinking and kibitzing with friends. I've had too many good meals here to say that I won't go there ever again, but I will never go on a Friday night, and I would suggest to them if they care, to limit the number of diners at any one time, if they don't have adequate staff to cover. read more
