Went to Morandi for winter restaurant week. Was excited to try out the menu since the selection seemed good and I've heard great things about the restaurant overall. The experience was just eh. We waited on one friend (party of 3)so we weren't seated. My friend and I went to wait at the bar and got a glass of wine. My friend joined shortly after so we added a glass to the order with the bartender. We were seated shortly after. Weirdly though when we got to the table there was a bottle of wine, so we paid for the bottle without knowing and weren't given the option at the bar. Wasn't a bad experience per say but just weird haha The food selection for the restaurant week menu was good. I ordered the meatballs, the risotto and the chocolate pudding. My friends got the other appetizers on the menu and one friend got the steak for the entree. All the food was good - nothing stand out though. The meatballs were a little sweet but good. The risotto was tasty but the consistency wasn't as creamy as I'd hope.The pudding was thick and rich, very delicious and a good way to end the meal. The service was decent. Nothing great. The bus boy was about to take away our bread too soon and I asked him to leave it but he didn't understand what I was saying so took it away and then brought us new bread with new plates. Just strange. Overall, good experience but not great. Would try again not during restaurant week to try some other dishes. read more

The service is fine. The food I'm disappointed. I ordered the meatballs and rigatoni Bolognese. They do give you five meatballs. But they were horrible. If you're looking for an intimate place for a date, this is probably not it. Morandi is crazy busy, and crazy loud. For the price you're paying, the service isn't even that great either. We literally asked three different people, a total of four times before we could get any bread (our server twice, and bussers that brought appetizers to and away from our table). That being said, I liked the food a lot. I was torn between the Pici al Limone and the Cacio e Pepe, but went with the Limone based on previous Yelp reviews. Good call, guys. It was excellent. I'm not really a big eater, but even I found the portion on the small size, so expect to have to order other things to be full. In terms of the desserts, I tried both the torta torinese and the budino di ciocclato, which were both delicious. If I had to choose between the two, I'd probably pick the budino. All in all, food was good, the rest was meh. If I went back, it would probably be for picking up takeout, and not dealing with the nonsense. read more

I really loved this restaurant. I was a little apprehensive when I read the reviews saying the plate sizes were too small, but honestly the portions were good and the atmosphere was amazing. This is a brunch review. Sometimes, I can be a total sucker for perfectly poached eggs. Poached eggs should have runny yolk, with a hardening crust and no raw white remaining (mmm). Guess what I got at Morandi? Yup. The Uova in camicia (two poached eggs over sunchokes, peas & fava beans) dish ($14). Look at the photo to understand what i mean by the perfect poached eggs. The sunchokes, peas and fava beans surprisingly balanced the egg well and instantly I felt healthier having greens for a breakfast dish. I enjoyed my dish and cleaned the plate with the free bread. Friend got the Asparagi milanese con prosciutto cotto (two sunny side eggs over grilled asparagus & ham) ($16) - the eggs were also truly sunny side and was delicious! Then there was the fried artichokes with lemon ($13). They were big and cooked really well - not too oily it was oozing with fat, not too soggy that it was left out too long. Each artichoke layer was cooked crispy and tastefully. I know we eat a lot -we also got the meatballs with pine nuts & raisins. Five large meatballs for $18. The first bite tells you that the meatballs are very homemade, and the meatball seasoning was quite well-done. The place cutesy - I sat indoors but I see this being a perfect brunch place in the summer. Service was fast and waiters were attentive! Overall, I guarantee a hearty brunch - and after brunch, head to Taim around the corner for a smoothie and then burn those calories window shopping around the area. read more

So, I wanted some pizza or flatbread. I stopped in here yesterday and was quite disappointed. It was super backed, the tables are soooooper stupid small like nothing id ever seen before. Was looking for a brunch spot after some light shopping on a Sunday and stumbled across this place. Heard the name and it looked cute so decided to enter with my guy friend. We were dressed in workout clothes. He was in male work out clothes (grey sweats and a white shirt, nothing fancy). He went in first while I finished a phone call and they were trying not to seat him but when I came in and they saw I was with him and had my Lululemon Outfit on, suddenly they had tables open. Magical! Now I know NYC is like this and I am not complaining, Just stating this so you can get the vibe of the place. Morandi tries to go for this authentic, rustic look. It failed. It's too rustic for me. The floor is uneven so the chairs and table wobble, the walls feel like caves (scratched myself against it) and the seating is very uncomfortable. Brunch was not good at all. Both our dishes (French Toast, Frittata and I forgot the other) were not tasty. Service was horrible and our waitress was a bit rude. Not going to mention her name because I get it, people have bad days especially a busy brunch day and I'm not going to get her potentially fired over this but just pointing this out so Morandi can fix this issue. We came to Morandi for brunch on a Sunday morning! Great ambience and architecture, and fantastic location in the west village. I would definitely recommend the pastry basket to start - it comes with delicious croissants, donuts, pound cake that are all great. UPDATE SAT 08/27/16 The scaffolding is gone from Morandi's outdoor seating. I had no idea how much more pleasant it would be under the expansive awnings. Here's the latest deets for 2 for dinner: Salumi, 20: nice Fritto misto, 18: generous and good Salmone, 30 Spritz Americano, 15: Less generous than what I was served in Germany. Abruzzo Rose, bottle, 56 TOTAL, 139 This is a go-to with out-of-town guests. It exemplifies Manhattan-West Village dining while still being crowd-pleasing and conveniently-located. It also takes bookings, which is vital. The portions are ample, and the food is consistently good. The service is thoughtful and sufficiently attentive without being intrusive or neglectful. The decor is easy on the eye and comfortable. The outdoor dining is delightful, though it was living under scaffolding on my most recent visit. Here's the deets from our latest visit, two couples, everything was ample to share amongst 4 and we almost had too much food with this list (03/22/16): Fritto misto, 18 - good! Assorted salumi, 20 Bolognese, 20 Cacio pepe, 16 - the pasta dish of the moment, a stalwart here, was pleasing Orata, 31 - excellent Tagliata (steak), 33 Fritti di Ricotta (ricotta fritters for dessert, 5), 8 Special cocktail, gimlet aromatico, 16 Negroni, 15 Etna bianco, glass, 13 Barbera, bottle, 56 Barbera, carafe (there were 4 of us!), 35 TOTAL 332 TIP - there's a lot of great ice cream nearby, including Big Gay Ice Cream. read more

I have to say, it's rare when I splurge on a resturant and am not happy with my meal. I think this is because of the power of Yelp! If I spend above $40 on dinner, I expect it to be good food and service. If the food was exactly the same as I had tonight, but the service was good, I'd add another star. As it was, the food was fine, overpriced, and service was insulting. The fried baby artichoke appetizer was only ok, and I recently have had better linguine and clams at Upstate (same price but with good service and tastier). We dinned here because a friend is a fan of Balthazar and Pastis, but I would say both those restaurants are better than Morandi. To pay top dollar and have your server threat you with disdain is not fun. Added to that was the coked-out chick at the next table over who SCREAMED every word she spoke all night long. It was ridiculous. The only reason I'd ever come back would be for the ricotta fritters, which are 5 stars and amazing. Eat dinner somewhere else, and swing by for desert. read more

I've been here for dinner a couple times. Once with a friend and another time with my boyfriend. I went here recently during the week around 7pm with my sister - this review is based off that time since I don't exactly remember what I ordered the other two times. I would recommend coming here for dinner with a friend or group of friends. This came on toasted flat, thin focaccia bread. It came with stracchino cheese melted on top, which was sooo tasty. Topped with fresh prosciutto and arugula. Fantastic app, I definitely recommend this. DINNER: -Pici al Limone: My sister and I both got this. I know it sounds simple, but trust me - this is AMAZING. It's one of those meals that you get sad about ending when you take your first bite. The pasta was thick and hand-rolled and perfectly textured. It tasted so fresh!! I haven't been to the west village since I belonged in the West Village which was actually never but at least I thought I belonged. This place was wonderful. My girlfriend and I had reservations at 6PM to celebrate her new job. I was initially surprised by the amount of children as it didn't seem like a child-friendly kinda' place. It's rustic in that rich way which isn't really rustic but has brick walls and wood ceilings. The waiter attempted to seat us next to a child that appeared to be about 5 years of age and therefore liable to cling his silverware against his plate, whine, or have a tantrum if his already privilged life doesn't meet his expectations for the evening. Since my Jewish culture prevents me from accepting the first seat offered anywhere and for any reason, I immediately selected a table across the restaurant. Perfectly seated between a table of Asian males and a male couple, I knew I'd made the correct decision to absorb the splendor of Morandi. We chose the endive salad with blood oranges, olives, and pistachios. I had the grilled Orata and my friend had Branzoni. There was heavenly bread with amazing olive oil and salt in separate pretty dishes with waitstaff that was skilled to artfully pour the oil and refill the wine. A bottle and then a little more wine, two hours later and the place had transformed into the obnoxious, well dressed, lively crowd that I enjoy. Whether you are going on a date and therefore being bullshitted all night or going with a gaggle of friends, this place is certain to entertain and not to disappoint. If you want to avoid the child atmosphere of the early evening and/or are planning to hit the town, I suggest reservations after 8PM. Enjoy. read more

I was in Greenwich and we were in the mood for Italian so we stumbled across Morandi. There were lots of tables inside but wanted AC. The inside was very nice, I liked the lighting and decor. It definitely has its own vibe. I got the Mafalde and it was wonderful - all the ingredients complemented each other well and the portion size was perfect. My two companions got the Gnocchi and the Risotto, both of which I tried and were also very delicious. We were all pleasantly surprised, it seems rare these days that a group goes out and there is not one single complaint about the food. I will say that the bread served pre entree could've been better/fresher but the main dish more than makes up for that. My companion did note that the bathroom was not the cleanest as well. The service was also phenomenal! We were checked on often by multiple wait staff and everyone was very nice and knowledgeable. I would recommend and return. read more

I had seen this place on the travel channel and was in the neighborhood so decided to try it. The tables are small and in close proximity to one another. This is probably typical for NYC restaurants, but not so much for me, so I just thought I would point it out. The waiter was nice and extremely helpful. He brought out water and bread. The bread was chewy, crusty, and soft on the inside, but it lacked a little flavor. They brought olive oil for the bread, but again I wish it had some spices in it or to go with it. I ordered the pici al limone. This was a homemade pasta in lemon sauce. It was outstanding! OMG, I am glad I came and that I got this. The pasta was homemade and out of this world delicious. It had a beautiful lemon sauce that was just the right balance of flavor. The portion was excellent size, not too large, not too small. I will definitely come back here when I am in the city. I also saw that they had cacio e pepe on their menu which was one of my favorite dishes in Italy, so I'll have to try that next time. read more

Great Italian place. Went with a girlfriend for dinner and had a great time. We tried out their outdoor seating and were not disappointed, great vibes on a picturesque West Village street. In terms of the food it was awesome. Started with the Margherita flatbread, a nice crunch and right amount of cheese, would recommend. Each of us had the pesto trofie and would also recommend (not as thick as some cream based sauces which was a nice changeup). Was a hefty potion which is appreciated given steep NY prices. The pine nuts were a great addition. In my opinion the potato chunks were a bit weird but my friend thought they added great texture to the dish so to each their own. Wouldn't say my mind was 10/10 blown out of the water with this meal (instead 9/10) but was very satisfied overall with the food / ambiance / service!! read more

Morandi is in a lovely vacation and you can't go wrong with their homemade pasta dishes, they were some of my favorite in the city. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and salads (I was partial to the Burrata)and each got our own pasta dish, which were perfectly portioned. Everything was cooked perfectly. I also had gelato for dessert, which was wonderful. This is a great place to sit outdoors in the warmer months and enjoy the West Village, but also has a wonderful rustic interior. Service was great for lunch and not too bustling or loud. The waitstaff is knowledgeable about the dishes and wine pairings. I will definitely come back to try more delicious dishes! read more

It was supper cold day. We were taken to the back corner area. When we sat, I notice this person sitting across from us. Sarah Jessica Parker was having lunch with her friend. I used to see her with her boy walking around the nabe but since I haven't seen her, I thought she moved out this nabe. I ordered from special. Soup with beans - bread and some kind of green. It was a perfect choice for this cold day. Then, I had black homemade spaghetti with pancetta and some kind of seafood or shrimp broth - garlic was what hit me first then the sea tasting sauce. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly al dente . There had a nice bite to it. It was yum.. We finished with Frittelle Di Ricotta - ricotta fritters with cinnamon sugar. It was warm and nuts inside made to shine. Tiramisu - it was very traditional. Even came with few savoiardi sticks. What strike me was the coco powder on the top. It was delicious! Revisited this restaurant last weekend. We had been here once before- prior to Yelp's existence! It was just as we remembered and we were completely impressed with the service from the host to our waitress to the busboy. We were in between sets at the Village Vanguard and asked our waitress what would be quick. I don't recall her name but she was awesome. Our drinks came out quickly, followed by fresh bread with olive oil. We ordered octopus salad, grilled peppers and a pasta dish with cheese and asparagus. Everything was tasty and we were literally in and out in under 30 minutes. Unusual for a weekend- as there is often a wait,but we were grateful it all worked in our favor!
