Stumbled on this spot trying to visit another nearby spot with my friends but the wait was way too long. We just walked down a few blocks and saw Morandi had lots of seating. We were seated quickly and I loved the look of the place! So rustic and airy. They opened all the doors for the outdoor seating so it was perfect for the weather. Two of us had a hugo spritz but I don't remember what my other friend got. She ended up with the hugo spritz after trying ours! They gave complimentary bread and oil. Delish! Bread was a bit hard and not warm but it's ok. We decided to share a bunch of different dishes. We ordered a few plates to share but I'm late with this review and don't know exactly what each is. One was an arugula salad, bolognese, flatbread pizza, and a tartare. Some may have been seasonal. It was all delicious and flavorful but I will say the price is steep for the small portions. (We also got some shots so that rang up the total but it was a good time and the waiter was fun)!

Cavatelli al Ragu

Great experience here! My friend and I walked in hoping to get dinner and eat outside. We were seated right away and had great service the whole time. I had the cavatelli al Ragu for my meal and thought it was pretty good. The sauce was good and it was a nice portion with a good spice from the chili. We also shared a bottle of their wine which was great. It was perfect vibes for a summer night and very lively and fun.

The wagyu was great, pretty much melted in your mouth. The bread you get at the beginning was incredible, we had to get two baskets. Very soft. The bolognese was great as well, covered in sauce. I could eat that over and over again.

This spot really surprised me! Happened to stumble across this restaurant with no reservations and no wait, so I wasn't sure if it would be good. To my surprise it exceeded my expectations! Pasta was really fresh and the drinks were great too. Once 7pm came around the restaurant got pretty packed and added to the ambiance with all of the outdoor tables.

We had a great experience for a girls dinner at Morandi! Our waitress was wonderful and she answered all of our questions, and recommended a wine for us. The pasta was very fresh and the octopus appetizer was probably my favorite bite! The restaurant itself was very large but some of the tables were a bit tight. They also have outdoor seating options. It was also easy to book a last minute reservation, so it's a great option when you're looking for something on a Friday or weekend. I would definitely recommend Morandi for someone looking for a reliable Italian spot in the West Village!

My wife and I ate here on a Tuesday night before a show at Village Vanguard. If you are looking for an intimate dinner, this is not the place. It was bustling with activity and very crowded. The tables are very close together and if you are a party of two you will definitely get to know your neighbors. The decor made me feel like I had gone back in time. The wooden beamed ceilings made it very rustic with a great old school vibe. The service was excellent. Everyone was so pleasant and attentive from the moment we sat down and throughout the whole meal. Kudos to the team! Most importantly the food was outstanding! First the bread, which could be the best bread brought to any table that I have ever sat at. Crispy crust with a light and airy center. I could eat a whole loaf myself. We then had the mussels which had a subtle, but very flavorful broth. Along side it was more bread which was grilled and perfect to soak up that amazing broth. My wife loved the broth so much she was drinking it like soup. We then had the branzino, lemon pasta and broccolini. The fish was light and perfectly cooked and had a unique sauce with olives and citrus. It was savory and slightly sweet. I've never had a sauce like that before and found myself wanting more. The lemon pasta was so flavorful and scrumptious. The lemon was pronounced, but extremely well balanced with the cheese and the freshness of the handmade pasta shone through. The garlicky broccolini wonderfully completed our meal. All in all this is a place is one that I would come back to over and over again. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and our meal and was the perfect start to a great evening.

So so pumped that I scored us a reservation on our weekend trip! Morandi was so much more than I expected. First of all, it's stunning inside. The old brick and the oil wall are beautiful. It was very clean for being a super busy NYC restaurant. Our service was great, proactive and efficient! Our meals also wonderful: I had the lemon spaghetti which was absolutely delish! The perfect amount of lemon without being tart. The hand rolled noodles were perfect! Our friends had the tagliatelle bolognese and the ravioli. Every dish was packed with flavor. We absolutely loved it! They brought out an adorable ice cream cup for my girlfriend's birthday, we were celebrating! It was the perfect night! Thank you Morandi! Bravo!

5/5 for service/ location and 3/5 for food and ambience. We went on a Saturday night. Heads up it was incredibly loud & our table was a bit too snug against the other ones causing a server to accidentally hit it and move it a foot in one direction. Not ideal, but space is limited. Both of us really enjoyed the eggplant and that was by far the best dish. Unfortunately, the pasta lacked flavor and itself was a combination of overcooked and undercooked? Hard to do. Javier (our wonderful server) noticed that we had left most of the pasta. Unprompted he told us that it was new to the menu and immediately offered to bring us something else. Appreciate you! Bc of that, I would definitely be willing to come back and give the other dishes a try.

What a cute little Italian spot in the east village! The service here was on point and they kept my wine glass full. Enjoyed the vermintino wine! The food was decent - the carbonara was my fave dish (we had a family style meal) and the dessert was good as well. Will try to stop in again on my next work trip.

This would be a 3.5 for me. I had high hopes for Morandi but I was a little disappointed. The food is good--but for the price, I feel I should be a bit more blown away. Everything tasted fine -- except the breakfast sausage was a bit odd. It was marketed as chicken breakfast sausage but definitely tasted like chicken apple sausage. Plus the texture was a bit odd. The service was overall pretty good -- very kind staff. But, our server did forget to put in our appetizer and we never recieved it. The vibe of the restaurant feels upscale but not pretentious. Overall, it was a fine experience but I I'm not sure how often I would return.

Great place and the waiter Javi was an excellent server. It definitely gets busy here so make your reservation! Food was great and drinks were ever better.

Torta Torinese (flourless chocolate cake with hazelnuts)
Alana K.

I came here with some of my coworkers for lunch. I had the octopus, which was grilled and served with a pea purée. The octopus itself was cooked really well, but I thought the components of the dish were all a bit random. My coworker and I also split the torta torinese for dessert, which was very rich, but good. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful and the service was good, but I didn't think the food was special enough to warrant the relatively high prices.

Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. I ordered the market salad with mixed greens, honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, and sherry vinaigrette. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

It's $25 for unlimited drinks plus food by the way. Which is sad is a deal these days. Anyway, their happy hour is solid enough for a Monday and was meeting up with a friend I hadn't seen in over a year. Place is actually very cute. There are no tvs which I appreciate and the paneling of the walls and decor with all the flowers is quite tasteful. Happy hour deals 4-7pm Mon-Fri & all night Thursday apparently: Aperol Spritz $8, Hugo Spritz $9, Paloma $10, Mules $9, Draft Beers (except Guinness) $7, House Wine $9. As well as 2 Appetizer Bites for $19.95. Not the best but not the worst. I'm normally not a Spritz kind of gal. I think watering down prosecco or wine is heinous. But it was a Monday and I didn't exactly feel like powering down into happy hour so Aperol Spritz it was which switched to a Modelo later. It was the perfect drink situation on a god awful hot as hell day. We also ordered the fish tacos and what initially were the curry fries but they brought out the Greek fries. I wasn't mad about it. Honestly was torn between the two and I don't send food back unless something really bad happened. But it was essentially a side of Caesar salad dressing with feta cheese and generous amount of herbs on a very sparse and frugal amount of crispy standard cut fries. Now I know why it's a 2 for $20 deal. The tacos were 3 in an order which I guess is typical. They weren't bad but nothing stood out to me. I'd come for the drinks or try something else on the menu.

To be clear- they still serve up the real stuff too- but I just need to put it out there how rare and kind of amazing this is for an OG spot like Sarge's. It's been 9 years since my last review here and- wow, we've come full circle. Also- congrats to making it through and out the other side of the pandemic- many businesses did not, but it's nice to see an institution like Sarge's survive a serious hit like that, it means the community cares too. If you can get that pastrami without navigating a queue organized like an airport security checkpoint, all the better. Welcome to Sarge's Delicatessen. Founded at 548 Third Avenue in 1964, Sarge's was opened by Abe Katz, a retired NYPD sergeant who decided feeding Midtown was preferable to actual retirement. Facing the obvious naming dilemma presented by a certain famous delicatessen on Houston Street, he smartly opted to name the business after his police rank rather than his surname. Over six decades later, the vinyl booths, wood-paneled walls, and classic diner atmosphere remain intact. My family and I stopped in for dinner around 6:00 PM on a Friday. The place was surprisingly uncrowded, and we were seated immediately without the typical Manhattan routine of checking in with three hosts and standing on the sidewalk until your appetite dies. Service was prompt, friendly, and completely devoid of drama. As for the food, we ordered enough to conduct a proper survey of the menu. I had a pastrami Reuben, while my wife ordered the beef barley soup and a half pastrami sandwich. Our oldest son chose the matzo ball soup and a half salami, while our youngest went with a hot dog. We added fries for the table, along with a Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray soda and a classic chocolate egg cream. Everything was outstanding. The matzo ball soup was deeply comforting, the hot dog had a proper snap, and the fries vanished with impressive efficiency. Even the house pickles and coleslaw tasted fresh and intentional, rather than serving as decorative plate filler. Then there is the pastrami itself. Saying this in print can cause traditionalists to question your judgment, but I believe Sarge's pastrami is better than Katz's. Quite a bit so. Katz's has the international fame, the endless lines, and a chaotic ticket system that feels like a live-action hunger game where everyone is competing for cured meat. Sarge's pastrami, cured in-house, is sliced thin, carries a better ratio of fat to lean, and delivers a richer spice profile in every bite. You get elite pastrami without the surrounding circus. Sarge's offers extraordinary food, comfortable booths, and an authentic 1960s atmosphere. If someone tells you that you have to stand in line on Houston Street to get the best pastrami in New York, smile politely, thank them for the advice, and head to Murray Hill instead.
