An easy 5 stars! The ocean views at Moonraker are astonishing. If you love waterfront dining, this is one of the best spots in the Bay Area. I highly recommend going around sunset. The ambiance was beautiful, with piano music during our Saturday visit and thoughtfully tiered seating that gives everyone a great view of the ocean. We started with complimentary bread and butter, which was good, but the Caesar salad was the standout. The sourdough croutons made it especially delicious. A definite 5/5! We tried both the steak frites and the New York steak. Both were cooked exactly as ordered, wonderfully juicy, and had a smoky flavor that took them to the next level. Another 5/5. We finished with a complimentary birthday cake, along with coffee and tea, which was a lovely way to end the meal. The service was excellent throughout. After eight years of my partner living in Pacifica, we finally made our first visit! I'd seen this place pop up several times on social media and recommendation lists, so we figured it was time to see what we'd been missing. First off, the view is incredible. We were lucky enough to sit facing the water, and having a live piano player during our visit made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere alone makes this place worth checking out. We ordered the peach burrata, corn bisque, Oysters Rockefeller, steak frites, and mango crème brûlée. The peach burrata and corn bisque were great, and the steak was cooked and prepared really well. I normally don't use sauce on my steaks, but this one felt like it was missing a little something. I would've loved a different sauce or accompaniment to bring everything together. The fries, however, were phenomenal, and the mango crème brûlée was a great way to finish the meal. The Oysters Rockefeller were probably the only real disappointment. They weren't bad, but we've definitely had better elsewhere, so they didn't quite live up to the rest of the meal. For drinks, we started with a dirty martini and the house Manhattan, then asked our server, Daniel, for a recommendation. He suggested the Old Fashioned, and that ended up being the winner of the night! We liked it enough to order a few more. We didn't have a great experience. To start with the positive- the view and atmosphere is really gorgeous and special. Definitely an occasion worthy restaurant! The food we got to try was mixed. Caesar salad & corn soup, good. The coconut shrimp somehow had no flavor, and the oysters Rockefeller were fine. Our issue was primarily with the service. We were there with two kids under 5. We told them upfront that we wanted to eat quickly given this. Long story short, it took an hour forty minutes to get our entrees. At which point we had to get the food to go. The restaurant after they were asked comped a little, but were not very apologetic about the wait just saying their wait staff were busy. So it seems like they may need to invest in more waiters. This was made all the more frustrating because it was one of my kids birthdays, which we put in our reservation note, but nothing was done to make this in any way feel special or accommodating. Overall, if you are going for the atmosphere and to have dinner, I think it is a nice restaurant given the views. WOW... I made a huge mistake!! I ordered delivery for dinner but went for a walk and figured after seeing this gorgeous view from outside I'd go in for just a beer at the bar. I totally should have skipped delivery and eaten a full meal here!! A beer turned into a cup of chowder which was extraordinary and it's the first time I've ever had my chowder served with a real clam shell inside lol. Might be a minor thing but it made the chowder so much more enjoyable and a definite sign of the freshness. I visited this restaurant with a friend, and overall we had a wonderful experience. We ordered a white wine, a red wine, beef carpaccio as an appetizer, and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was beautifully presented, and the view was absolutely stunning. The wines were exceptional. Honestly, some of the best I've had. It was also my first time trying beef carpaccio, and I loved it. It was a little salty for my taste, but I'm not sure if that's simply how the dish is traditionally prepared. The tiramisu was hands down the best I've ever had. The only downside happened when our food was being served. One of the dishes accidentally hit the wine glass, causing it to break on the table. We completely understood that accidents happen, and the staff quickly replaced everything. However, they didn't wipe up the table, and there were still small pieces of glass left. We could have asked, of course, but it was disappointing that it wasn't taken care of automatically. Another confusing moment was that it seemed like the manager intended to remove the wine from our bill because of the accident, but in the end we were still charged for it. Again, we weren't upset about the mistake itself. I've worked in hospitality and know that accidents happen, but the communication around it felt a little unclear. One other drawback is the restrooms, which weren't clean and it felt surprising for a restaurant of this caliber. The food is most definitely nothing to write home about. I had the jumbo coconut prawns with mashed potatoes and pineapple guava sauce. The potatoes had no flavor, definitely didn't taste like they were made from real potatoes. My husband had the lobster tail and New York strip steak meal. The steak was rather small, the potato thing was decent, the tapenade was very very runny and overall just was worth the almost $70 for the dish. We each had a drink wish were also okay, but for $180 after tip (not Including the $28 I paid in advance to reserve the sunset table), I would have expected better quality. As for the reserved table, it was nice but the back bits up right to a high top bar table so it was a tad noisier than I would have liked (maybe if the booth had a higher back to down out the sound it would have been better). The person at the table had their elbow over the edge and kept grazing the top of my head. The sun was also reflecting off the water and was semi blinding, even with the shades down. My husband, a decorated disabled veteran, and I spent nearly $400 over back-to-back nights here for our anniversary, and it was a thoroughly demoralizing experience. When a business takes $100s and rewards you with condescending staff, hostile management, and an owner, Jason, who lacks basic accountability, the public needs to be warned. THE FIRST NIGHT: EXPLOITATION AND LAZINESS ($200 Cash) Our happy hour visit was completely ruined by our server, Manuel, whose attitude was remarkably condescending and dismissive. He repeatedly mishandled our drink orders and completely abandoned our table. Worse, we ordered oysters specifically for the advertised premium dry ice presentation. Manuel flat-out refused to perform it. My disabled husband with limited movement was forced to reach across the table and conduct the dry ice presentation himself just so we could experience what we paid for. The usual ambient live pianist was entirely absent, leaving the room dead and obnoxious (check the background noise from both videos from each night). When confronted, the manager, John, brushed it off, handed us a card, cheekly told us to email him next time to "work something out." THE SECOND NIGHT: DISRESPECT AND DECEIT ($170 Debit Card) We foolishly trusted management and returned the next night for dinner, expecting redemption. Instead, we were treated with open disrespect by our server, Sonya. We ordered the cioppino, which arrived in a hot heavy iron pot. The kitchen severely shorted the portions, giving us exactly two crab legs each with zero knuckles included (see attached photo). When we politely asked Sonya for help portioning it, she completely refused with a hostile attitude. Later, she picked up our unfinished calamari in its greasy metal cup, shook it aggressively in front of our faces, and condescendingly offered the last scraps instead of clearing the table like a professional. THE ETHICAL BREAKDOWN OF MANAGEMENT & OWNERSHIP When we approached John again to explain how both nights were ruined, he became instantly defensive. Despite knowing it was our milestone anniversary, his insulting solution for two nights of miserable service and a $370 tab was a single free piece of cake and granting us a table with views like we asked for originally. We attempted to handle this privately and professionally by emailing the executive chef and owner, Jason Yeafoli. Instead of showing leadership, Jason completely protected his defensive staff, backed John's insulting "free dessert" offer, and refused to issue a refund. BUT, he did this all without looking over the visual evidence (pictures and videos). Incompetently the FOLLOWING day of the complaint Jason immediately requested access to see the pictures and videos as if he didn't look at them to begin... This establishment will happily take your money, treat you like a nuisance, and then insult your intelligence when you ask for basic standards. They do not care about quality, they do not care about customers, and they certainly do not care about disabled veterans. Went here for my birthday dinner back in November and had such a great experience. I'd always wanted to try Moonraker since I visit Rockaway Beach in Pacifica pretty often, and with its location right in the center of everything and those amazing ocean views, it always stood out. One thing I really loved was how easy it was to make a reservation online. Being able to choose your exact table and preview the view ahead of time was such a cool feature and made it easy to pick the perfect spot for a special dinner. The service was amazing from start to finish. We started with the smoked salmon appetizer with grilled baguette, mascarpone, onion, and capers, which was delicious. For my entrée, I had the Dungeness crab cakes with fall vegetables, mashed potatoes, marinated fennel, petite frisée, and caper aioli, and it was incredible. Thankfully we were lucky enough to find street parking just across the street. We were warmly greeted by the host and was brought to our reserved seats in the Shrimp section. It's not a bad view of the ocean, but the windows could have been cleaned better. I've been going to Moonrakers for over a decade and have been watching my favorite menu items decline or downright disappear. The BEST thing on the menu was the chicken parm, reliably great (except on Mondays). The seafood pasta was the other greatest thing on the menu. It use to come with a couple of good size scallops, plenty of seafood, and it was delicious. This last time I got a sliver of a scallop, maybe a third of one, possibly even a fourth. Filled mostly with calamari and fish. The drink pours use to be loaded (thank you Don for your service), now can barely taste the alcohol. We decide to go for our 30 yr anniversary. We did not pay the extra fee for the premium seating however we were seated by the window in a booth and were happily surprised! The views were amazing. We were seated right under a party of 10 ladies that were celebrating their guests 21st bday. How fun for them and super rude as they were yelling across the table, hooting and hollering each time taking shots. This is not a club or bar! I can handle once but when you can't even hear your husband talk to you it's rude and downright disrespectful! It was completely obnoxious! We shared with the server and he agreed it was over the top! Hard to make a romantic evening together when you hear constant screaming in your ear. We recommend that the manager say something to ask them to tone it down. We quickly ate and were brought a complimentary dessert which was a nice touch. The manager then came by to say sorry and brought a glass of bubbly to wish us a nice anniversary and say sorry. It honestly was too late! The night was ruined. Food: very good! It is positioned right on the ocean and the interior is designed to take full advantage of the view. Almost every table is an ocean view table. They even have exterior lights illuminating the waves at night. The food here is elegant and upscale (which is reflected in the price). I have fond memories of wild boar pasta and squid ink pasta. One of their specialty desserts is a table serving of smores, complete with a little table top fire where everyone gets to roast their own marshmallows. I usually come here for the happy hour in the bar. Happy hour oysters are 1.75 and my buddy and I usually down 2 dozen. Cocktails are nicely priced and I like to go with a gin and tonic. They also serve French fries cooked in duck fat and you really must try them. The staff here is always friendly and on point. Shout out to waiter "John Snow" who takes good care of us. It's a great place to hang out or take a date for a memorable evening. You might even see whales while you enjoy dinner. Parking is easy and you can take a seaside stroll before or after your meal.
