I like the mini wooden barrels that the condiments and the napkins and silverware are placed in. I'm not sure why people were raving about the krab cake. It's imitation krab. It's not good or worth the stomach space in my opinion. I wasn't paying attention when my partner suggested we order it. I would rather the two pieces of fish combo in the future. The fish they use is okay. The fried sausage was a deep fried sausage. Not the tastiest sausage but the friedness was novel. The fries are solid. Slightly thick, a bit soft, but still crispy on the edges. Everything was freshly fried and served hot. The batter they use for the fish is different than the onion rings. I thought that the onion rings would use a wet beer batter on them but they were breaded, like bread crumb breaded. My favorite item was the fried mars bar for dessert. The beer that was recommended to me was half Guinness and half cider and it was refreshing to drink. They need to re-write the sign by the door. About 1/3 of the people get confused. One of the servers gets mad at people who wait politely by the door especially when the restaurant is full because they don't know whether to wait to get seated or to go all the way to the bar to ask for a seat and order. I can't believe this was my first time at Camelot and not my last! I went on a Friday at around 1:30pm it was packed and we got the last table. Then a larger line built, wow I got a root beer on tap! It was refreshing and I got the Camelot special with everything in it. Yummy oysters, big chuck of fish, loved the shrimps. This place is fantastic. My husband and I love it. It's as close to my husband's home in Ireland as we can get in California. I actually don't like fish, so I appreciate the option for chicken strips! And they're exactly the kind I like. Flat, breaded, normal, not fake chicken, and crispy with a little bit of salt! It wasn't due to take out as I dug into those fries while hot. Reheating them later would just make them drier...and I rarely leave a potato behind. I have come in here my whole life. I hadn't been into Camelot for a couple of years and decided to get some food. I ordered a half order of clams and substituted fries for the mushrooms. Now it says an extra charge for substituting, which I assumed would be the difference for the side, a couple of bucks. I also ordered a Snakebite. The total was over $36! Now the half order said $14.95 and I assumed the substitute side would be a couple of bucks and the drink no more than $10. 1 Star -- Completely Overrated. Don't Waste Your Time or Money. Given the high esteem and glowing reviews this place receives, our experience was a massive disappointment. We arrived on a Wednesday at 11:45 AM. There was only one party of three ahead of us, yet it took a full 30 minutes just to get our order. When the food finally arrived, it was immediately clear what took so long: the fish was completely overcooked. While the exterior had a deceptive, rich golden color, the actual execution was terrible. The fish fillets were cut far too thin, and the batter coating was incredibly thick and gummy right next to the flesh. When a restaurant sits right next to the ocean, the seafood should be pristine and fresh, not ruined by poor technique. My wife's shrimp was no better. I tried one and it was flat, dry, and completely lifeless. There is absolutely no reason to butterfly and smash shrimp down to nothing. This establishment needs to learn to respect the ingredients. It is entirely baffling how this food gets high ratings. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

You go up to the counter to order your food, which they then deliver to your table. The fish & chip is yummy here with the usual fix'ns (vinegar, tartar sauce). In addition to the quality of the food, I appreciate the flexibility offered here: you can specify the # of fish pieces you want, and whether you'd want chips with your fish, onion rings, sweet potato fries, etc. I opted for fish + sweet potato fries, and the staff member essentially order a 2-piece side of fish + a sweet potato fries side for me, which was perfect! I came 30 minutes before closing to see if I could grab a table to quickly eat but we were not rushed, in fact it was still busy up until closing. It's warm and cozy inside with the all the UK/Irish decor and lights. We ordered onion rings, a tall lager, and a Camelot combo (oysters, shrimp, 1pc fish, and chips). The onion rings were tasty but the breading was kind of thick. The seafood was great. But the highlight was definitely the fish. While everything else is panko breaded, the batter on the fish is crispy and airy, with the fish itself being fresh and flaky. Chips are also made British style, not the same as fries! The food came out in about 10 minutes and the young guy who took our order was super friendly and hooked us up with all kinds of condiments to-go! I thought the fish here was a huge win! Well fried and seasoned with a super thin batter. I wasn't a huge fan of the thick cut British style fries, but I know that is the traditional way and the menu did warn of that! We were able to grab a table before the rush and eat our fried goods. There were sauces at each table that I can only assume are traditional at British pubs. I heard someone specifically ask for brown sauce. So I tried the fish with the brown sauce. I don't know what I was expecting, so I thought it was fine. The staff was pretty friendly. They greeted us when we walked in. They were patient as we were trying to figure out what to order. They also provided us with a high chair for the little one who also seemed to enjoy the crispy fried fish. Every patron that came through were so friendly. I attribute it to the warm, friendly atmosphere provided by the hardworking staff. I do think the prices are a little high--but I would pay it again in a heartbeat. Obviously, it's far from the healthiest thing you can eat, but ever since I was a kid, fish & chips has been one of my favorite dishes. Whenever my family would try a new restaurant, it would be one of the things I would look for. Sadly, my all-time favorite spot closed long ago and ever since, I've been on the lookout for something that was just as good. So, after the first time I ever discovered Camelot, I immediately bookmarked them. Mostly because of how good the photos of their signature specialty looked, but also because of how long they've been around! First opening more than 50 years ago, so much about this place reminded me of the old school vibes my old favorite used to have! As you can imagine, the menu here is pretty straight forward - as their name implies, fish & chips is the name of their game. However, they also have a variety of other offerings too, including shrimp, crabcakes, oysters, scallops, clams, and the option to get combinations of them. In the event you're looking for something non-seafood, they also have chicken as an option, as well as a variety of sides and fried sweet treats (twinkies and mars bars). Given so many enticing options to choose from, I opted to go with THE COMBINATION WITH SHRIMP - Fried Fish and Fried Shrimp with Chips ($22.40). When my order came out, I was super stoked. Not only was the piece of fish quite large, but all four pieces of shrimp were big, too. Sadly, this mixed basket tasted very mixed. On the plus side, the shrimp were terrific - crunchy on the outside, sweet and juicy on the inside. As for the fish, it was moist and piping hot, but the batter, while fried to a crispy, golden brown, was a little gummy. Sadly, though, the chips really held this back. Since they're steak fries, it's not at all surprising that they're more potato-y, but they were also inconsistent - some were dry and starchy while the thinner, small pieces were incredibly hard. Considering how excited I was to try Camelot, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't somewhat disappointed. However, there's no question you get a good amount of food. Between how beloved they are and all of the praise they've garnered over the years, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if we just came on a bad day, but either way, I wouldn't be opposed to coming back again to try their other seafood options! When it came to paying my bill, which was less than a couple of dollars,I reached into my pocket and I didn't have my wallet. I believe it was the owner son was working that afternoon. He was tall, slim, with dark rim glasses. I informed him I didn't have any money to pay for my bill. But I will leave my motorcycle helmet as collateral. Being a previous resident of the town this last visit was my 2nd try at this establishment. Overall, my experience was mediocre. The menu is pretty pricey. The food was eh' , the onion rings were satisfactory. The fish, chips, shrimp and fried mars bar did not satisfy my palate-- The inside was very British which was a nice feeling. The service was interesting--The older lady at the register was receptive but then passed us off to a young lady who lacked personality. Her demeanor was bare minimum and I tried hard to be as polite as I can. The other young lady with the rock'n'roll style was super friendly and accommodating. Friendliness is what determines if I will return for future dining experience, the answer is "I doubt it!" I gave two stars--for effort However, the "nice nasty" personality deserves zero stars. Hands down probably the best fish and chips I've ever had!!! While the fries weren't that great, the fish definitely made up for it. The prawns were crispy and tasted, kind of tasted a little bit like corn bread. The onion rings were fantastic, and the jalapeño poppers were great. Usually not a big fan of jalapeño poppers but these were amazing. The place is a little small but it's so cute and cozy in there and the service staff is pretty nice for the most part. Visited recently for the first time. Was impressed with the comfortable yet cozy interior. A nice selection of well-kept beers and plenty of transitional non-alcoholic options. The service was also efficient and very friendly. I had the 1pc fish and chips option which was really tasty and good value for money. Crisp, tasty batter covering a very nice piece of well-cooked, fresh fish. The handcut chips were excellent and the closest I've had to UK-style chips in the US. A few minor things that I noted: 1) I think the oil used for frying had quite a distinctive flavor (not bad per se, just noticable). Maybe maize or some kind of nut oil. I doubt beef lard or dripping is possible but, in the absence of that, perhaos an even more neutral-flavored oil might be beneficial. 2) the small red baskets used to serve the food are not ideal in my opinion. The fish sits on top of the chips making it harder to get a proper balance of seasoning on both the fish and chips (I like differing amounts of salt, vinegar, and lemon on my chips versus fish for example). It also makes cutting and portioning trickier than if the food was served on a more regular plate. 3) it would be great to see some alternative sauce options (beyond tartar) such as mushy peas, gravy, or a curry. I am very particular when it comes to fish and chips and so the above things are honestly just minor suggestions that the owners might care to consider. All in all I was really happy with food and overall experience at Camelot and will most definitely be back. read more

After all these years,  we finally tried this place.   We're not big on fish and chips. I ordered: 1.  The camelot - This was the perfect sampler.  I've never tried fried oysters or scallops before.  The fish was light and flaky.  Surprisingly, the oysters and scallops didn't lose their flavor with the batter.   You can taste the flavor of each item.   It didn't taste like they were all the same thing since it was fried.  The chips were thick and crunchy. 2.  Krabbycakes and onion rings - This is not your standard crab cake.  It was light and flavorful.  The onion rings were amazing as well,  super crunchy. 3.  Deep fried twinkies - This was amazing. It's to eat it right away. 4.  Cock & bull ginger beer & root beer -  both were perfect and complimented thr food.      This place was delicious.   I had told Georgia I was looking for bread or something to absorb all the greasiness.  Surprisingly,  I don't think you need it.   The food was all fried but didn't make me feel like it was too much.   Usually with fried foods, you feel like you need tea or something to help digest or help with that heavy feeling.  Here it was not the case, it was perfect.   I felt like I could eat so much more.   Maybe this is why they've been around for 55 years or more.  The food was amazing, the service was above and beyond.   I will definitely be back read more

Came in for the first time this afternoon and ordered a two piece fish and chips. It's now a toss-up between Barbara's in El Granada and Camelot for my favorite fish and chips in the bay. Camelot charges $19.25 for two pieces. Both pieces are big and freshly-fried, not too much breading, and the fish tastes fresh and tender. Their chips are what impressed me most: they are not just garden-variety French fries; they are proper, flat but not quite flat frites that are both finger-foodable and also forkable. Comes with tartar sauce and the squeezable ketchup bottles at the table were clean and filled. The restaurant has very cute English pub decor and the service is friendly and efficient. Street parking is easy nearby. Finish lunch with a catty corner walk to Mazzetti's for some derby cake! I'm so glad I found this place; I'll be back for lunch the next time I'm in Pacifica.
