I don't even know where to begin to write how disappointed I am in the service I received yesterday from LoveJoy Tea Room. I reached out to have LoveJoy Tearoom cater my company's International Women's Day Luncheon because my predecessors used her services the year before. Unfortunately I could not speak with them or get any reviews on how well the service was, I just remember how beautiful it looked in passing. Well, I'll never let a beautiful aesthetic allow me to make that mistake again. I requested a full high tea service with tea, dishes, sandwiches, etc. She let me know that she was able to cater for my event. I asked that she give me an itemized payment receipt and her version of an itemized receipt was typing out each individual thing she was bringing and how much it would cost in total on a word document. It is very hard to get that through compliance at my company. I should have known then, I was in trouble. When she arrived, she complained about finding the parking as if we didn't validate her for parking in our building. Once she got up to the floor she came in and set up the tea which took about 15-20 minutes total. I signed her payment receipt, tipped her and as an avid high tea patron I asked her how long each tea she brought needed to seep, ALL FOR HER TO TELL ME SHE DOESN'T SUPPLY THE TEA!!!!!!! Excuse me? Why would we cater from a Tearoom that didn't supply tea? The gag was, she provided us with sugar cubes but no tea. Further, she completed the 'ready for use' set up all for us to notice the cups were dirty. - to the point when washing the cups in our sink, a large spider jumped out of one of them. We wasted 15 tea bags that I am extremely happy we had in our office already because we also notice, only after putting the bags in the pots, that they were dirty as well. We had to wash the entire rental within 20 minutes before the event began. Another thing that really bothered me was there were no sandwich description tints letting people know what was in the sandwiches as a food allergy precaution. Not only that, I'm more than sure she didn't bring all of the sandwich options I requested. She also charged me $40 for checkerboard cookies (although the invoice says "tea biscuits") that she picked up from Sprouts for $5.99 per box. There were no petit fours, no cream for the "tea biscuits" etc. This whole experience was a disappointment, and I truly feel ripped off as I paid $919.00 + tip for what I thought was going to be a High Tea experience and ended up being a horrible catering experience. I'll never work with her again and I suggest you don't either. read more

I know people come here for the experience and ambiance but I really expected a bit more in terms of the food. The menu was a bit confusing but the server was super friendly and explained everything. She had suggested we get a few towers to share and each tower was really pricey so I assumed I would be more out of it. But overall I paid about $50 for 1 sandwich is that made with regular sandwich bread and some ham and spread, a scone and some tea. Which is wild. Lovejoy's is a long time favorite for my family and I. Since my children were barely toddlers, we gave been enjoying high tea experiences at this cozy, eclectic tea room in San Francisco's Noe Valley. Reservations are typically booked out weeks and weeks in advance, especially for prime time weekend seatings. But, we were able to snag a same day reservation last minute, by sending an email. We were seated in the outdoor parklet area - which by the way is not heated -- but the tea keeps you cozy! Some of the fun of the visit is the eclectic assortment of dinnerware - everyone gets a different plate and tea cup set, and a different tea pot. Super cute and fun. It's like being at your aunt's or grandma's house. Very home like. Service is very accommodating and pleasant, timely and attentive. You can order various grades of tea service, from a Queen''s Tea that includes everything you could want including a Petit Four for dessert, all the way down to light tea for just the basics - sandwich, scone and fruit...plus a bottomless pot of tea. There is a fee to share - but that's reasonable. Crumpets can be added - with lemon curd and marmalade - and they should be! They are delicious. The sandwiches are made to perfection - our favorites are chicken apple walnut, cucumber and cream cheese, roast beef and horseradish and turkey with Dijon mustard. The scones need their own paragraph. They are perfect! Served wam with double Devon cream and jam, these alone are worth the visit. Salad has a delicious dressing, I've had the sausage rolls before and also - perfection. There are a wide variety of teas to choose from - from traditional English blends to Rooibos and herbal assorted teas. Something for everyone. You'll have to map it and find it - but it's all far worth your efforts. Make reservations well in advance if you can. The J Church MUNI line stops right outside, so transportation can be easy and you can avoid the search for parking! If you visit SF - or you live here - either way, it's a must visit spot. My friend recommended this as one of her favorite high tea places in the city and my sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We weren't able to make a reservation as it gets booked up pretty early on but we got there around opening time at 11 am and they were able to seat us at an indoor table. What really stood out to us was the decor all around the restaurant: the eclectic art, different tea sets and fun hats you can wear for your time there. We loved that each table had unique table sets and we ordered the Queen's Tea Set, adding a small sharing fee and an extra scone to try another flavor. They have a whole list of tea you can choose from and we opted for the chamomile tea to pair with our tower. The Queen's Tea Set came with two flavors of tea sandwiches we chose, salad, a scone, a crumpet, a biscuit and a petit four with some toppings of lemon curd, jam and cream to use. Our standouts from the set were definitely the scones. We got the lemon ginger and black currant which were both very flavorful, hot, light, and flakey. Topped with the lemon curd, cream or jam, it was such a refreshing light touch and we couldn't get enough of the lemon curd. The sandwiches were simple and fresh as well and everything was a perfect shareable amount for the two of us. After our meal, we went to their attic store across the street where you can buy your own tea sets and loose leaf teas that they have at the restaurant. Lovejoy's is a great experience! It is a charming location and the people are lovely. My only complaint is that some teas (like some blacks) need to not sit in the teapot. They get bitter. It would be better if they had a tea catcher that you can take out when the steeping is done. Otherwise they are very generous and are always asking if you need more hot water. I have come here a few times with my stepmom and step cousins as well as step aunt. I enjoyed the teas and sandwiches. Each person can have their own tea in a tea pot and choose sandwiches that they want to have as well as try the other sandwiches. I feel perfectly ok wearing jeans and running shoes. The place is located right by the j church line stop. The ladies who work here are always so nice and helpful. We got the Queen's tea set and the presentation was immaculate, and the sandwiches were pretty tasty too! The cucumber one was especially refreshing (we also got smoked salmon and cream cheese). The fruit was a nice touch. Scones were good though had a pretty dry exterior. I also enjoyed the tea we got (can't remember exactly which one, but we got two different types - one was a variant of earl grey, and the other had more flowery notes). They really should adjust their service on Mothers day. I would not say walk ups are welcome. We did get a table, and the tea and food were good. However we only received a pink paper with the "promotion" of the day which was the queen tea which was listed higher than their online price and the Mother's wee tea was for children. We had to ask for the tea selections and they did not offer an alternative to my guest when she mentioned she had tomato allergy instead they gave me both appetizer (which was yummy). Stumbled upon this place through a recommendation from a local, and I do not regret coming here one bit! This place is a total vibe, in a quaint little town. Upon arriving, I was the first one (10 min to open) but quickly people started arriving for their reservations too. Even a bus load of senior citizens were dropped off right up front with their party of 10+. When arriving in this type of situation, you need to be a little aggressive, or perhaps, very assertive or else you're going to be pushed to the side. There's a small podium up front right when you enter the door, to which you check-in there. Reservations are highly recommended. There's seating outside and also inside, though they filled the inside seats first. Me, myself and my party of 1, quickly got serviced. I ordered the High Tea set which came with a choice of 2 sandwiches to which I had opted for the daily special (tuna and tomato) along with the salmon and cream cheese. I also chose the apricot tea which was delightful! The set came with a scone which was a lot bigger than I had anticipated, but it was very yummy. My only wish, is that it came with lemon curd (came with a berry jam and clotted cream instead). Though I ordered a jar of that lemon curd to take home and I was not disappointed. The lemon curd was probably one of the best I've ever had with lots of lemon flavor and not too much sugary fillers. All in all, I had an amazing time! This was a lovely and cute place for afternoon tea. Heads up there is only one bathroom available, so there will likely be a wait. The décor was fun, and we enjoyed seeing the variety of dishware. I really enjoyed the food here, but I felt very "meh" about my tea (Tea Room Blend). I actually preferred my friend's Black Vanilla with Lavender, and since there's unlimited refills, that worked out well since I could share with her. I will say I wasn't used to filtering the tea as you poured it out, since other places will usually have a filter built into the teapot, so a few times I forgot and ended up getting tea leaves in my teapot, but that was just user error. The lemon ginger scone as well as the smoked salmon with cream cheese / chicken pesto sandwiches were delicious. Light Tea was a perfect portion in my opinion (and I appreciated that it came with fresh fruit as well). After you pay your bill, you'll get a slip that says you can present it in order to get a free gift with a purchase over $25 at the antiques shop across the street. Speaking of which, the antiques shop does sell the tea from Lovejoy's, so my friend was able to pick up a bag of the Black Vanilla with Lavender tea. read more

While the sausage rolls were a bit different to what I've had in the UK and Australia, it was still delicious. The family and I enjoyed afternoon tea at Lovejoy's Tea Room yesterday. It was a rainy morning and our reservation was for outside so we weren't sure how our experience will turn out but the ladies at Lovejoy's do an incredible job. Our reservation was for 11 a.m. along with all the other parties that had an 11 a.m. reservation. We were seated in an enclosed outdoor seating area like the many others you see around San Francisco. The only difference is this one had creature comforts such as throw pillows, cushioned banquettes, nice tablecloths. Lovejoy's really went out of there way to make the environment comfortable and inviting. The chill in the air finally went away once the other tea enthusiast joined us. Magda arrived to take our order. We each chose the Queen's Tea which included a choice of two sandwiches, served with cabbage salad in a Caraway cream dressing, organic spring greens, a scone with preserves and Devon Cream, a Crumpet with Meyer Lemon Curd, fresh fruit, a Petit Four and a Tea Biscuit. We also ordered some sausage rolls which I have to say are a MUST with tea at Lovejoy's. For my tea selection I ordered Earl Grey(I'm a purist.) I also buck the tea drinking establishment and have the audacity to put milk in my cup before tea. The Mrs. ordered Lovejoy's tea room blend and kiddo ordered the White Strawberry tea since she isn't a tea drinker. Shortly after our tea arrived this massively beautiful tower of goodness was delivered to our table. Even for three people it was a lot of food but we enjoyed it. The cost of the Queen's Tea was $38.95 per person. A bargain compared to some of the other places in the area that offer afternoon tea. Getting to Lovejoy's from the Financial District where we were staying was easy. We too the MUNI J train which passes right by the place. The train used to stop at Church and Clipper which is intersection where Lovejoy's sits. The MUNI has discontinued that stop and you not have to get off the train one short block down on Church and 26th. read more

I've been trying to get a specific tea mailed to me from Lovejoy's for over 2 1/2 months. I originally bought it while visiting in person and wanted to reorder once I got home. During this time, they've answered my calls but never actually sent the tea. I've followed up multiple times with no results. Very disappointing and unprofessional -- I expected better. They should do better. Their ongoing excuse is that they're under new ownership (as of about 4 months ago). While I see many great reviews, when it comes to mailing tea to customers, they completely fail. Most recently, they promised to "get it going" and call me back -- that was over two weeks ago. I've made at least six calls over this period, and not once have I received a return call. If you live out of state and want tea by mail, do not count on them. To make matters worse, I found both Millie and the owner quite rude in my conversations, especially after I grew frustrated at the delays. I even shared that I'm a stage 4 cancer patient and that the tea meant a great deal to me -- still no follow-through or compassion. This was not a small order either (over $100). Just an epic failure in both service and basic human decency. Truly sad. read more

I loved the variety of decor and the different options. For high tea, it was affordable, delicious, still special and fun! The service was fantastic, great recommendations, super kind. I started with the tea room blend (the tea is essentially bottomless) and it was warm, light, I couldn't get enough! I got the high tea with the black current scone, the daily special tea sandwich and the apple chicken one. Tea sandwiches are small so keep that in mind when choosing the type of meal! Tea was served first then the food. I really liked the sandwiches, super light. The salad paired well with the tea sandwiches. My favorite part of the meal was the scone served with Devon's cream and jam. The cream was super thick, creamy, sweet paired with the jam on a light scone (aka biscuit bc I'm from the South) WOW. Changed me- so good, so memorable. It was my friend's birthday so we also got little mini cakes/desserts, such a great variety from a raspberry macaroon to a matcha strawberry cake. If you want strictly high tea with no food, this is your spot. Tea selection is wide, porcelain plates and cups are beautiful, and the ambiance inside will have you feeling like you're in someone's antique grandmothers house. But you want food with your tea? Hard pass. I came here with my coworkers and made reservations ahead of time for a party of 10. We sat outside and ordered tons of sandwiches, salad, the lemon curd crumpets, the sausage rolls, and the notorious clotted cream raspberries scone. I'm gonna tell you the sandwiches felt like children finger food. Wonderbread would have been a much better choice than whatever they got going on here. It was such a disappointment, especially when they cut the crust off but so many pieces had lingering crusts on them. It was funny and wild to me at the same time. Have been wanting to come here for two years. My party and I finally coordinated the time with one another to make it. They're only open on selective dates/times, so it's important to make reservations ahead of time. Inside, the interior decor is so warm, cozy, and vintage. We were seated at a nice table in the back where there were bonnets for people to wear if they wanted to. We got the complete tea party experience, bonnets and all! Their menu had plenty of veggie options with yummy goods like tea sandwiches, fresh scones, crumpets, and plenty more. I got the chocolate chip black tea, which was also served with sugar and/or milk on the side. They had a nice expansive list of various teas they offered. Our server was kind enough to teach us the proper etiquette of how to use the tea strainer properly. As a vegetarian and someone who didn't want too much food, I ordered a couple sandwiches a la carte, rather than getting a tea service. The tea service is more like a bundle/package that comes with more to share with the table. I got the cucumber cream cheese and tomato cheddar sandwiches, and they did not disappoint. Another amazing Tea Day w/ the ladies...celebrating each other! "Treat Yo Self!" We had the best corner window nook of LoveJoy's Tea Room, w/ the fluffy pillows and Royalty Reserved Sign...soo demure, so mindful...very cutesy. Love our Hostess with the Mostess, Too-Too...she was the kindness and helpful. This is one of our favorite spots for tea because it's a Woman Ran Business and they are so accommodating and thoughtful. Tea is delicious and we love their scones and crumpets! So quaint, warm and inviting. Visiting from LA, my daughter wanted to have afternoon tea. The room is filled with beautiful decorations and the hostesses were very friendly. They answered all my questions with a smile. My favorite blend was the royal tea and the house tea blend ( forget the name I'm sorry). It was a wonderful lunch experience and I'm excited to come visit again. Thank you! read more
