Came here for the Neko Oji-san collaboration, as that's how I learned about the cafe (I love the comedy short form manga online, check it out!). Parking nearby is horrendous, super busy even on the weekdays before the rush hour so I can't imagine weekends when people are out or other high traffic times. Get ready to make some rounds and pay for parking and be careful since there's very specific signage and times. The cafe itself is cute and cozy. Front area is a gift shop with lots of cat themed gifts and goodies like keychains, stickers, and such, and also some items from local and small artists too, which is neat. The cafe also has community events like movie showings ("The Cat Returns" was one of them which is a great choice) and cat yoga. If you're local, you can also get a time stamp if you are a frequent visitor. Definitely follow their socials for more information. There's reservations online and you can also do walk ins if it's not super busy. You can book for a 55 minute visit or a 30 minute visit. PRO-TIP: There's a discount for students, so if you want to be surrounded by some feline friends while you study or relax, great place to do so. You can hang your coat on the rack and there's a mini shelf area for your shoes. So you gotta walk in with socks! With each visit you can either get a hot cup of tea or a cold can or box drink from their fridge (sparking water, juices, etc.). Very refreshing and you can enjoy it in the cat area too. Sanitize your hands before and after visiting. There's lots of cats hiding around, sleeping, walking around, and some are super friendly and will go into your lap. There's toys you can play with the cats with and there's a wall of adoptable cats. Lots of seats or you can opt to sit on the floor with the cats too. There's relaxing lo-fi music throughout too. Pretty cool that they rescued 2 cats from Qatar and neat that we got to see them. As with all cats, some can be a bit spicy but it's usually just a warning teeth rub. I own cats so there's nothing new. I'm horribly allergic to the cat that specifically lives in my house, but I didn't get an allergy here, meaning that the cats are clean and well taken for. My favorite was a large sleepy orange boy, Ron (permanent non-adoptable resident) that was hanging out next to me the entire time. read more

The cats here are so cute!! Theres so many of them and they do not feel stressed at all. We stopped by a Friday afternoon and opted for the 30min session which I don't remember seeing available as an available option if reserving online. We didn't have any trouble walking in though and we were the only ones inside for most of the time. You get to choose a beverage of your choice from the fridge. They're mostly sparkling waters. We took off our socks and found a table to sit at. Some of the cats came up to greet us when we were sitting. There are also toys available for you to use to play with them. Many of the cats were napping or lounging around but don't mind if you come up to sit next to them and give them pets. Second time coming back to KitTea and I had a great experience again! KitTea allows you to do visits from 30 minutes up to 2 hours or more. I made a reservation online the day prior in case the lounge was going to be busy. I came with a friend and the staff provided us with an informative video before heading inside to play with the cats along with a complimentary canned beverage. You're welcomed to bring your own food and drinks but just make sure to keep an eye out for it. You don't want the cats to accidentally get into your food! All the cats here were really friendly and playful. There were a few that were really shy and took some time for them to warm up. I believe most of these cats were up for adoption. If you are interested the staff can provide you with all the information you need on the whole process. I'm a huge cat person so I loved every second I was there. I got lucky that one was extra friendly towards me and hung out with me for over 20 mins. If you're looking to destress, or interested in adopting these babies definitely come check out KitTea! Went with my daughter to KitTea Cat Cafe in the Mission. We've been to a few cat cafes over the years, including a few in Japan. We had been offered a credit at KitTea a while back. Although there was some confusion when we reached out to redeem our credit, because time had passed since we had been told our credit would be "tracked" in the system, we experienced unreturned phone calls and emails over a few weeks, and an employee who told us she was too busy to help us by phone. We assume they were researching the issue, but I recommend getting documentation if you are offered any credit. Ultimately our shop credit was honored. We enjoyed a holiday viewing of the Muppet Christmas Carol and time with adoptable cats and other cat lovers. The cat area is clean and orderly, with a modern loft feel. Food and beverage is limited to just hot tea or sparking water (various flavors.) They do allow food and drink from outside, so we came prepared with our Mission burritos and aqua frescas. There are some retail offerings in the front of the store, and the cat play area is full of toys, cat beds & play areas. Overall, a good alternative holiday experience with friendly staff and low key kitties. Be sure bring in outside food. Finally had to be almost rude and finally got some answers, even though I ended up looking like the raving madman. If you are wondering, you should make a reservation and it will cost $18 for 30 minutes and $30 for an hour. My fiancé and I had a great experience at this cat lounge. When we entered, Heatherina greeted us warmly and let us check in 15 mins before our reservation. Everyone gets a free drink from the fridge (various sparkling waters) or a cup of hot jasmine tea. This place also offers stamps cards and after the 6th visit, your next one is free. Just a heads up that you have to remove your shoes to enter the cat lounge. There were a lot of cats all around the room and none of them seemed particularly grumpy. I had a bad experience in the past so I was a little nervous, but they all reacted positively when we were playing with them. I liked that there were a lot of different toys and furniture for the cats and us to use. The lounge was clean and while it smelled a little like cat litter (expected so not a huge issue), the bathroom didn't smell like that at all. There was an air purifier in there and it was definitely doing its job. When we checked out, Heatherina surprised me with a birthday card! I thought that was such a sweet gesture and made the experience even more special. They also have a variety of merch in the front. I ended up with 2 cat blind boxes lol. They have a super cute gift shop in the front, cubbies for shoes, and hooks for any bags/jackets. You get a complimentary cold canned beverage or hot green tea. After watching a short video, we got to see the kitties. It was so much fun! All the cats are super sweet and some are very playful. Only a few were sleeping. There are several shoulder kitties who might get up on your shoulder after some pets. There are also several lap kitties. It's on Valencia, but parking didn't seem that bad. I finally had the chance to go. Their hours never seemed to work for me, as I prefer much earlier hours on the weekdays. Staff were friendly and kind. we had a choice of tea, with no pressure to adopt. The room was quite small and there were about 8-10 cats there. I think there were about 7 people in the room, and a lot of the cats were hiding or sleeping. A few played. But it was enjoyable and relaxing. After work one day I stopped by to destress. I really like that they let you choose a free drink, you can get a nice cup of tea or a soda. I swung by on a Saturday afternoon to visit KitTea and to see some furry friends. Apparently around 1pm isn't the best time to go, they have usually just had their lunch and are taking a cat nap. So the cats you see won't be super active. It's a small but cozy area with a lot of character. Before entering, you have to take off your shoes and they will allow you to have one beverage included with your ticket. There's a staff member at the door who will explain the rules and what's expected before you enter. Cute experience! Wish the cats were more playful, but it was just bad timing (nap time). I had a good time though! I liked that there were a lot of toys available for guests to use to play with the cats. They offer a free drink with your ticket and they have a variety of drinks from flavored bubbly water to fruit juice. I really enjoyed my experience here, and I really like the shop at the entrance. You can make an appointment and spend some time here to pet cats and drink tea. You can even adopt a cat from here if the chemistry and conditions are right. On this particular visit, my friend and I were just passing through on our way to our "thrift crawl" so we only visited the gift shop. My family is all about cats, we foster and we have adopted and want to do everything to help protect any stray or abandoned ones. So during our trip to San Francisco we decided to visit Cat cafe and picked up Kittea. Loved our experience here, the owners are doing a great job helping and saving strays by taking care of them, feeding them and providing them the shelter until some of them are adopted. Few observations about the feeding - I noticed that they feed wet food to the cat three times a day, would recommend switching to dry food as it's supposed to be better. - they should increase the frequency of the feed as not all the cats were getting to eat due to some big cats taking over and saw of them being very hungry, the way they jumped on the food. Overall these guys are doing a great job and I would request all the cat lovers to go visit and support them so that they can continue with the awesome work they are doing. Also, if you can or looking to adopt, they have cats (one with collars) that are up for adoption! Get a kitty for the upcoming. I think up until recently they no longer operate as a "cafe" which is kind of a bummer so instead they offer complimentary drinks and lounge around with the cats. We came around after a late lunch so it was around 4pm. We walked in and they had an opening for us but seems like you can also make reservations online to ensure a spot for the time you wanna come in. We came during a sleepy time, most cats were asleep but a few came around to get petted or played for a bit. Don't come expecting the cats to "entertain" you or be up to playing most of the time. I'm sure they get overwhelmed with the influx of visitors they see daily. I enjoyed it but I think once you remove the cafe aspect of it, you shift a lot of the focus to the cats and if the cats aren't up for pets or getting to know you then I can understand how some people can be underwhelmed. Imma start this review off by stating I am unequivocally a dog person. That said, I've been wanting to come to KitTea for at least five years now. Today I finally got the chance! :3 I came with my fiancé and his niece, a bona fide cat lover, and we had such a wonderful time. We were in the first group of the day (I wouldn't come without making reservations), and based on the feedback from other reviews and our own experience today, I'd recommend that other folks try to get in the first group of the day or at least one of the earlier groups as that's when the cats are the most awake and engaged. I felt special for a second because I was the first person a cat decided to hop on and chill in my lap. You see, even though I'm a dog person, I secretly crave cat's approval (and don't think they don't know it- they do, and that's one of the many reasons why I prefer dogs). The cats were super cute and seemed happy. There was one male cat I named "CatDog" (because he approached the other cats like a dog) who kept trying to instigate fights, but the cat wrangler intervened every time. The space is aesthetically pleasing and very Instagramable. The host was friendly and informative- she did a wonderful job. I love that some of the cats are up for adoption. That made me feel like the tickets- which aren't cheap, were worth it. I told my fiancé and niece within the first 5 minutes that the hour would feel like it went by quickly, and it sure did. My fiancé's niece said she'd figured out her birthday plans for the next five years- high praise from a teenager! Seeing how happy KitTea made her was the best part of the experience; it truly made my day. This was my second time visiting this spot and I absolutely loved it!! I wish there were more cat lounges. My experience here was amazing, we paid for a hr with these cats and we had so much fun. There are some cats that are social and some that are sleepy lol. But they don't mind when people touch them. I wish I could adopt all of them. I get a wave of sadness every time I leave because it hurts seeing such beautiful gifts from the universe not having a loving home. But thankfully the workers here are always taking care of the cats making sure anyone who visits their lounge does not misbehave with the cats. The inside is clean and does not smell of cat litter, there are spots to sit inside. You just need to take off your shoes before entering, remember to wear or bring a pair of socks. The only drinks available are sparkling water and hot tea. Usually a cafe would offer a little more than that you would think. They only let a certain number of people in at a time- which is great. You can't pick up the cats or hold them. That part is kind of a drag. They must get a lot of attention and stimulation because they weren't very playful and many just kinda stayed in their boxes or under the chairs. It was extremely clean and despite all the cats in a relatively small space, it didn't smell bad. It was fun and we enjoyed it, but I don't think it's something we need to repeat. The thought behind this is a good one, but the experience was pretty underwhelming and the tickets are expensive for what you get. The space is on the small side and there were a lot of people in our time slot. They fed the cats right before we went in so most of them were sleeping. There isn't a feeding schedule on the website so it was difficult to pick a time slot that would have allowed us to play with active kitties. The refreshment selection was limited and there was no tea. The employees were pretty nice and the cats seemed to love them. Some of the cats are up for adoption and some are permanent residents. The concept is cute, but I personally believe it could have been executed better. As a person that works with cats and dogs, I've noticed that these cats are over-petted, tired, and uninterested. Our appointment was at 12 pm, so I understand how many of the cats were taking their famous cat naps. Totally understandable. The kittens were alert though, and I feel like the group that had the same appointment time as ours were hogging them and the entire area they were in. When one of the kittens finally came towards me, I was guiding it to come towards my friend and I. One of the male workers said "if the cat wants to go, let them go please." The guy didn't say anything rude, but the tone of voice was very passive aggressive and that just ticked me off for the rest of the visit. The cat had room to leave if it wanted to and that comment of his was unnecessary. One of the rules of this cafe is we can't pick up the cats. I understand as picking up cats can lead to unwanted injuries on both the cat and human side. But it's really hard when your sitting waiting for a cat to come to you and none do. I felt bored most of the visit. I petted some cats that were laying down, but many eventually fell asleep and I didn't want to disturb them. And as I mentioned before, I feel like one particular group of people were hogging an entire area of cats, so there wasn't much to do. I'm a huge cat person, so I was disappointed that I didn't really get a chance to interact with them. A couple of things I liked about this experience were the complementary drink that was included in the visit. They have a range of drinks available from cold coffee, chocolate milk and juice. All in cans or pouched packaging. My friends and I also arrived about 10 minutes late to our 12 pm appointment, and the receptionist was nice enough to give us additional 10 minutes past our hour time slot! That was very sweet of her to do and I appreciate kindness like that. I personally believe that the cafe should allow cats to rest from human interaction. Cats are like humans. They can get overstimulated if human interaction is back to back and every single day. And maybe offer customers with a couple cat treats to get the cats to come to them. All in all, the experience was okay. I get my "cat fix" from my job, so I definitely wouldn't come back here again. I also personally believe you can get a better experience at shelters because cats aren't as visited as the cats in the cafe. I would like to say that Japan is the first country to introduce the world to themed cafes for the enthusiastic in a plethora of avenues. I say this because you can find themes cafes ranging from vampires to girls dressed as French maids. It is definitely a plus to have a pet themed cafe here in the San Francisco metropolis. This is my second visit to a cat cafe; the first being in Tokyo's colorful Harajuku district. Location: on 24th and Valencia. I was with my friend, who is a cat devotee and mentioned wanting to visit KitTea and we happened to be within distance and so I thought; sure - why not. Comparison: I have to say that KitTea highlights the best of being themed after cats; all of the cats were tame, well trained, and loves the human touch. Whereas, while the cat cafe I visited in Tokyo where the cats were adorable and beautiful; we were not allowed to pet or touch them, not to mention that they wanted no part in any human interaction. I was stunned and surprised at the same time how the cats at KitTea allowed me to touch them very gently and jump would onto my back. Just wow! The Staff: the receptionist was very courteous during our entire visit. The staff member handling the cats in the inner room was very knowledgeable and can name each of the cats as there were many. Price is $13 for a half hour and $25 for a whole hour. You have the option to order drinks in the inner room, and you'll receive a canned drink upon checking out. The Experience: now granted I'm not a cat person, and I don't think my household would get a cat; going to a cat cafe, and in this case KitTea; I get to experience bring with cats. The cats were adorable but clearly overwhelmed by the amount of attention they received from all the people coming through, and I was only in the second shift of people for the day at 11am on a Sunday. I was also disappointed because despite being marketed as a cat cafe, the only drinks they had were a limited selection of cold, sparkling drinks. I did try an interesting elderflower grapefruit sparkling water, but as someone who normally doesn't prefer sparkling water/juices, I wish they'd had other options. The space is set up well - there's a small merch space at the front of the shop, then they have the cat play area behind closed doors and windows at the back of the shop. They do have restrooms connected to the play area. We came in late, so I was glad we were still able to join the cats for the remainder of our hour. We had to take off our shoes (they have cubbies set aside for this), sanitize our hands, and watch a short orientation video before entering the play area. There were about 10-12 total people in the area, as an estimate, and about 10-12 cats, most of which were sleeping or pretending to sleep in order to get some peace and quiet. Most of the cats stayed sleeping while we went around petting them. They were cute but clearly overstimulated by all the petting. A couple of the cats even swatted me when I slowly reached out to them. While it was great to be able to see all these cats (they even have adoptions available), I left feeling guilty and sad that the cats couldn't get more space. The moment our group left the play area, many of the cats that were sleeping/hiding perked up and started to run around. I think if there had been more of a rotation of cats between shifts, it would have helped with the cats' relaxation. To be honest, if you want to help socialize cats and get to pet them for a lot cheaper, visit shelters or try volunteering. I do think it's great that these cats have opportunities to be exposed to so many potential adopters, but they clearly needed a break. read more

I redacted some stars for a couple of reasons - one being the long haired cats seemed slightly neglected. Their behinds were not clean and they were fairly matted. It's hard to care for longhairs, I understand. Otherwise, they are respectful of the kitties and have a great selection of gifts. We came in at open so the cats weren't quite exuberant (leave for one that climbed on me), but still seemed pretty okay with us. I love that you're not allowed to pick them up and just in general they maintain a certain degree of genuine respect & care for the cats, from both the employees and customers.
