I've been eating at Chicken N Coop since Moses wore short pants. With the former locations being by my house in Excelsior and one near my high school on Taravel way back when. So coming here is nostalgic, the old school dining area, the 25lb plates that would survive the apocalypse, brown trays to hold all your sides, entrees, and utensils on. It's fallen out of favor with many people thru the years but not with me. I like instant gratification as I watch them carve the protein in front of me and put it on a plate. Scooping and dropping a few sides on my tray. Why would anybody eat fast food when they could get a delicious hearty plate of food from a Hofbrau for the same price? I'll never understand. But here at Chick N Coop, they give solid portions of food. The food is well seasoned. The staff are super friendly veteran employees that know what they are doing. The owner is part of a generation that understood what a Hofbrau style establishment was. Large portioned, quality food, consistent customer service, and enough dining area for a family of eight! I ordered a corned beef sandwich and a roast beef/turkey combo plate with mashed potatoes and Mac n Cheese. Everything was awesome. Once these Hofbrau/carvery style/cafeterias are gone, that will be it. So cherish the times we have eating with family and friends at places like Chick N Coop.

Roast Beef dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, potato salad, and a dinner roll

The food was tasty and the servers were very patient with us, as it was our first time there. My husband got the roast beef sandwich and loved it. He got mashed potatoes with gravy and potato salad as his sides. He got rice pudding for dessert. I got a roast beef sandwich with Mayo. I asked for the sautéed onions they had at a different meat station and that hit the spot. My sandwich was pretty good, only thing missing was a slice of provolone cheese, that would have topped it off. I had a side of mashed potatoes, no gravy, and they were tasty. The inside reminded me of the 1970's and I loved it! I also loved the hanging wagon wheel. The food was reasonably price, our meals with two pops cans to $40. If you are looking for some good comfort food, this is the place. We will stop again sometime.

Delicious food, large portions, friendly staff, clean restaurant, and fair prices. Everything is expensive nowadays. Here, you can get a large and hearty sandwich or meal for less than $20. Fast food costs about the same. I love the chicken and turkey the most because other places make it too dry. Not here! But their ribs and roast beef are also so tender and juicy. Everything is good and flavorful. Just simple, good, comforting dinner. This place has been here for decades, and I hope they never leave.

Old school hofbrau on the edge of Daly City with friendly staff. We'd been doing house chores all day and didn't have time to cook anything by the time dinner rolled around. And we were hungry! My husband and I both ordered a full turkey dinner, with mashed potatoes and green beans, accompanied by giant dinner rolls with foil-wrapped pats of butter. It was almost the end of dinner service so no more dark meat for me. Next time we'll try to come earlier. I also ordered a side salad for sharing but I ended up eating it all. I was THAT hungry. We ordered our iced teas from the drinks stand within the restaurant. The restaurant is quite large with interesting decor. Mostly empty on a Sunday evening but we weren't alone. And we did see a few customers order whole chickens to go.

Chick N Coop has been around forever--or at least since I was a kid in South City. Back then, it was part of the weekend routine. After church, if we weren't eating out, my dad would stop by and grab a whole rotisserie chicken, some ribs, a few sides, and we'd take it all home. No fuss, no plates that cost more because they came with garnish. Just solid food and the comfort of eating it in sweatpants at the dinner table. We were back in Daly City recently visiting my sister, and my mom randomly said she was craving Chick N Coop. We hadn't been in years--since my dad passed five years ago, actually. So we went. Walking in felt like stepping into a time warp. Same counter. Same trays. Same everything. The kind of place that didn't need a rebrand because it already knew what it was. It was weird being there again, older now, sitting next to my mom who's also a little slower these days, talking about how this was dad's favorite spot. It hit us all harder than expected. Like, this place isn't just a hofbrau. It's a little piece of memory still standing while everything else moved on or shut down. The food's still good--nothing fancy, but that's the point. Chicken's still juicy. The ribs still slap. Sides are exactly how you remember them. It's the kind of meal that doesn't pretend to be more than what it is, and that's why it works. Places like this don't need hype--they just need people who remember. And we do.

I've been going here since I was a kid literally over 30 years. I've moved to the East Bay but every time I go to visit family I hit up the chicken coop. I can say it's honestly been consistent forever. Yesterday I was extremely disappointed. My salad was at least a day old. It was so soggy and gross. The rice pudding was watery and the rice wasn't even cooked. I can honestly say my turkey sandwich was good a little light on the turkey but no problems with that. I hope it was just a once off because I really do enjoy this place and it's been around forever.

I was on the search for comfort food and was delighted to have found this place. I thought they sold chicken sandwiches here because of the business name lol. I'm glad I gave them a try! I ordered the half chicken plate with macaroni and cheese and mash potatoes. Everything was delicious! The roasted chicken was moist, tender and falling off the bone. Macaroni and cheese was a little too creamy; but it did not hit you with the taste of too much cheese. Mash potatoes tasted like real potatoes! Gravy tasted like chicken drippings and was seasoned well. Writing this review makes me want to visit this place again.

Table top view of roast beef dinners

I was craving Europa Hof Brau in Orinda but didn't want to make the trek all the way over there, so we figured it was high time we checked out this place in Daly City. Bottom line is, we'll be coming back for sure. The food was a lot tastier than the other reviews led us to think. Next time, I'll ask for the part of the roast beef that's less cooked since that's what I prefer. The coleslaw was a bit different in that it tasted like sweetened, cooked shredded cabbage. We'll pass on that in the future. But other than that, we enjoyed all the rest of it. My order: roast beef with mashed potatoes, corn, and a side of mac and cheese ... plus a side of extra meat to share ... with everything slathered with jus and gravy Bf's order: roast beef, double mash, and Cole slaw The bread was included. Ambiance: very unassuming and relaxed. They share space with a coffee / smoothie place, which takes up half the restaurant. At first glance, it's a bit of a strange pairing but then after some thought it feels kind of symbiotic. I could see myself ordering from there after a hot brau meal next time. Service: friendly and relaxed... what you would expect from a neighborhood hof brau

I haven't been here in ages and I happen to pass by when I noticed them. I checked their reviews and they seemed legit. Usually, new places that pop up have tons of "fake" reviews. IYKYK! Just like the place is named after, they not only offer Subs, but it's a basically a mini-mart that sells Halal meats and Middle Eastern and Mediterranean grocery items. They also have all types of Baklavas, that were sweet, rich and decadent. I've even purchased my very Turkish Coffee and cezve - a small pot with a long handle designed to brew finely ground coffee over a stovetop or sand. The nice gentleman instructed me on how to brew Turkish coffee. I just googled the rest. Anyways, on my first visit, I ordered their Pastrami Wrap. It's basically Pastrami wrapped in a Pita with all the fixins' but with a twist on the sauce. If l'm not mistaken, it's either Tahini or Tzatziki sauce. It gave it a different flavor that was quite delightful. Be careful though as it can get messy as this thing will drip down your hands and clothes as I found out the hard way. On my second visit, I was so impressed by the wrap that I ordered it again. I was more careful to eat it this time around, but it still dripped down my shorts. That's what I get for eating in the car. They have 10 items on their Subs menu, and they all look good. Aside from the Pastrami Wrap, they also have chicken, roast beef and turkey. They have five meat-type subs and one tuna sub all reasonably priced starting from $10.95 to $14.95, which is a great deal in this day of age. The people working here are very nice and friendly. As I mentioned earlier, the gentleman who was providing me information on Turkish coffee was also looking out for my best interest. Instead of upselling me something, he gave me a more practical advice on what to purchase. All in all, a friendly and inviting place where they offer delicious and affordable sandwiches, to which I will certainly be back for more.

I was also watching another food video the other day that had Sambusas, so I was surprised they had it there. So the first time I tried ordering at this store, my order was cancelled. Probably either they ran out of something or they were unable to serve food. I was like dang :( ok whatever. I tried ordering again and thankfully my order went through! I was so excited to try both the chicken wrap and the Sambusa. REVIEW OF EACH ITEM: -Chicken Wrap: I REALLY LOVE how flavorful this was. I really enjoyed the Malawah bread because it was thin enough to hold it as a wrap, but also flakey with a nice chew. I really loved the flavors of this wrap - it was savory, spicy, garlicky, sour, etc. It was just so balanced of a wrap and that first bite was yummy!! -Sambusa: I only got 1 to try out, but it was good! It was a bit small, the outer layer was a bit dry, but the filling was very flavorful. I think I should have gotten a few of them to have as a snack, but maybe next time I'll get a few more. I'll definitely be ordering that wrap again!! It was delicious and SO filling.

This grocery/convenience store has your typical products you would see, like liquor, sodas, snacks, i.e., candy, chips, ice cream, but they even sell things like shampoo, cold/flu meds and lottery tickets! The store may have what you need so you won't have to run to Target, Walgreens or CVS. They don't have music or a tv in the background; it's quiet and peaceful. We noticed this because it was Super Bowl Sunday and they don't have a tv, so we had to go online to check the score. *** OUR PICKS*** RIB EYE STEAK SANDWICH W/SWISS CHEESE ON DUTCH CRUNCH ~ While ordering this, I told myself, this is gonna be GREAT! I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into this sandwich! But when I took a bite, all I could taste was salt?! I'm not sure if the steak was over seasoned or the Swiss cheese made it salty from being cooked, but I've never had that happen when making a sandwich at home. Since there's no place to eat it at the store, we took it home and tried adding more lettuce and avocado to offset the saltiness, but even that didn't help. By the end of the day, I couldn't get my ring off my finger! It was swollen from the amount of salt in the sandwich because that's the only thing I ate. I drank lots of water, but I became bloated. Next time, I'll nix the cheese and order another kind of sandwich and hopefully have a better experience. 3/5 ROAST BEEF & PASTRAMI W/PROVOLONE CHEESE ON DUTCH CRUNCH ~ this was better than the steak sandwich. My guy had this one. It was salty, but it didn't overpower my tastebuds or the sandwich. I only took a bite to try. 4/5 While jalapeño peppers and pepperoncini are sour, spicy and salty, the meat shouldn't be overwhelmingly salty too then the whole sandwich wouldn't be pleasant to eat. There needs to be something bland to balance it. Now in this steak sandwich, I didn't even add jalapeños or pepperoncini. I only had pickles, onions, lettuce, tomatoes. Yet the salt cut through it all and hit me. I believe someone got overzealous with the salt shaker not realizing it was too much. Of course, the customer finds out after taking a bite! Though I think there should be some quality control in making sure it's done right. Maybe taste testing should be a thing. We may come around again and give them another shot. We really enjoyed it the first time and we were hoping for a repeat, but disappointingly, it didn't go as planned.
