    spare ribs $20

Chick N Coop is aesthetically pleasing if you like Kmart in the 80's type of cafeterias. At least they have a TV. They had the Ohio State vs. Indiana Big Ten Championship game on. We had 1/2 chicken dinner $18, roast beef dinner $20, turkey dinner $21 and spare ribs $20. It tasted like high school cafeteria food. Would we come here again? Sure.

I've been eating at Chicken N Coop since Moses wore short pants. With the former locations being by my house in Excelsior and one near my high school on Taravel way back when. So coming here is nostalgic, the old school dining area, the 25lb plates that would survive the apocalypse, brown trays to hold all your sides, entrees, and utensils on. It's fallen out of favor with many people thru the years but not with me. I like instant gratification as I watch them carve the protein in front of me and put it on a plate. Scooping and dropping a few sides on my tray. Why would anybody eat fast food when they could get a delicious hearty plate of food from a Hofbrau for the same price? I'll never understand. But here at Chick N Coop, they give solid portions of food. The food is well seasoned. The staff are super friendly veteran employees that know what they are doing. The owner is part of a generation that understood what a Hofbrau style establishment was. Large portioned, quality food, consistent customer service, and enough dining area for a family of eight! I ordered a corned beef sandwich and a roast beef/turkey combo plate with mashed potatoes and Mac n Cheese. Everything was awesome. Once these Hofbrau/carvery style/cafeterias are gone, that will be it. So cherish the times we have eating with family and friends at places like Chick N Coop.

Roast Beef dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, potato salad, and a dinner roll

The food was tasty and the servers were very patient with us, as it was our first time there. My husband got the roast beef sandwich and loved it. He got mashed potatoes with gravy and potato salad as his sides. He got rice pudding for dessert. I got a roast beef sandwich with Mayo. I asked for the sautéed onions they had at a different meat station and that hit the spot. My sandwich was pretty good, only thing missing was a slice of provolone cheese, that would have topped it off. I had a side of mashed potatoes, no gravy, and they were tasty. The inside reminded me of the 1970's and I loved it! I also loved the hanging wagon wheel. The food was reasonably price, our meals with two pops cans to $40. If you are looking for some good comfort food, this is the place. We will stop again sometime.

Delicious food, large portions, friendly staff, clean restaurant, and fair prices. Everything is expensive nowadays. Here, you can get a large and hearty sandwich or meal for less than $20. Fast food costs about the same. I love the chicken and turkey the most because other places make it too dry. Not here! But their ribs and roast beef are also so tender and juicy. Everything is good and flavorful. Just simple, good, comforting dinner. This place has been here for decades, and I hope they never leave.

Old school hofbrau on the edge of Daly City with friendly staff. We'd been doing house chores all day and didn't have time to cook anything by the time dinner rolled around. And we were hungry! My husband and I both ordered a full turkey dinner, with mashed potatoes and green beans, accompanied by giant dinner rolls with foil-wrapped pats of butter. It was almost the end of dinner service so no more dark meat for me. Next time we'll try to come earlier. I also ordered a side salad for sharing but I ended up eating it all. I was THAT hungry. We ordered our iced teas from the drinks stand within the restaurant. The restaurant is quite large with interesting decor. Mostly empty on a Sunday evening but we weren't alone. And we did see a few customers order whole chickens to go.

Chick N Coop has been around forever--or at least since I was a kid in South City. Back then, it was part of the weekend routine. After church, if we weren't eating out, my dad would stop by and grab a whole rotisserie chicken, some ribs, a few sides, and we'd take it all home. No fuss, no plates that cost more because they came with garnish. Just solid food and the comfort of eating it in sweatpants at the dinner table. We were back in Daly City recently visiting my sister, and my mom randomly said she was craving Chick N Coop. We hadn't been in years--since my dad passed five years ago, actually. So we went. Walking in felt like stepping into a time warp. Same counter. Same trays. Same everything. The kind of place that didn't need a rebrand because it already knew what it was. It was weird being there again, older now, sitting next to my mom who's also a little slower these days, talking about how this was dad's favorite spot. It hit us all harder than expected. Like, this place isn't just a hofbrau. It's a little piece of memory still standing while everything else moved on or shut down. The food's still good--nothing fancy, but that's the point. Chicken's still juicy. The ribs still slap. Sides are exactly how you remember them. It's the kind of meal that doesn't pretend to be more than what it is, and that's why it works. Places like this don't need hype--they just need people who remember. And we do.

    Salad

I've been going here since I was a kid literally over 30 years. I've moved to the East Bay but every time I go to visit family I hit up the chicken coop. I can say it's honestly been consistent forever. Yesterday I was extremely disappointed. My salad was at least a day old. It was so soggy and gross. The rice pudding was watery and the rice wasn't even cooked. I can honestly say my turkey sandwich was good a little light on the turkey but no problems with that. I hope it was just a once off because I really do enjoy this place and it's been around forever.

Food is good. Very inexpensive and very plentiful. Kind of went small on my brothers portion of ribs but still delicious he said.

I never would have thought to come here had it not been for some good friends who are Thai! So on a Saturday morning, our large group of 8 friends managed to survive a 35 minute wait to enjoy the varied brunch selections they have here. Once seated, you'll find a pleasant traditional but polished clean vibe inside with plenty of thick wooden tables and comfortable seating. We tried the following: MATCHA BUTTERMILK PANCAKES VERY FLUFFY matcha-infused buttermilk pancakes topped with fresh fruit and their Matcha sauce. I mashed each chunk of pancake into the matcha sauce and savored every bite! Loved this! ( Easy 5/5 ) PORK BELLY CLAYPOT Slow-braised pork belly, served over jasmine rice paired with shiitake mushroom, green onions, white sesame seed and poached egg all cooked up in a thick clay pot, resulting in browned carmelized rice along the bottom of the pot. YUM! (5/5) "HAT YAI" FRIED CHICKEN & VANILLA WAFFLES Southern of Thailand-Style fried chicken and vanilla waffles, served with fresh fruit and maple syrup: Not sure what was Thailand style about this fried chicken, but the batter was tasty and crunchy, but the fried chicken a smidge on the dry side. Still, this is a nice interpretation of American style chicken & waffles. (4/5) KAN KIIN FRENCH TOAST Thick Texas-style toast served with a banana prepared two ways (one carmelized, the other half deep fried with homemade coconut syrup, coconut flakes and fresh fruit. I found the toast a bit dry, but that was just me trying not to use too much coconut syrup. The Bananas were the highlight of this plate. (3.75/5) All dishes were prepared with good attention to plating too. very photogenic. I'd come back for the Matcha Pancakes and Pork Belly Claypot for sure. I'd like to try this place for dinner too if I can survive the long wait!

The restaurant ambiance and staff service is a strong 5/5. The food had great presentation but it did not match the taste. By good food, I meant they are great! The fries are probably better than just about anywhere I've had. I've only tried the plain and the garlic. I think I prefer the plain more. Though the garlic flavor infused into the fries, but the rough chopped raw garlic is a bit too sharp for my taste. I would probably try the truffle fries at least once though. So after all my chores in Colma DC, I Yelped this place and because I lost my sense of direction back to the city, I ended up here, lol. Easy parking. Counter service. My wife ordered our lunch and my daughter and I ordered our beers. Sadly, there was only ONE in house option?!?! And only 3 guest options. How is that possible?!?! This is a brewery right?!?! And the one in house option was NOT something I typically drink, but you know I had to try and support. The food was good! We got two burgers with garlic fries (75¢ up charge), not sure if the garlic was raw though?!?! Mediterranean Cobb Salad with added Grilled Chicken $18 - My wife said it was just okay. Mango Habanero Wings - Dry, but with decent flavors. In summary, come for the burgers and fries unless they can do a better job brewing! Ambiance - Brewery warehouse setting. Semi open kitchen. Small parking lot, but I was lucky and got a very good space. Kid and dog friendly. Clean bathrooms with outside sinks, thank you. Pinball machine row, see pictures. Plenty of indoor and outdoor picnic style seating. Open 6 days a week from noon until 8pm or 9pm. Closed Mondays. Events, see their website. Service - Counter service. Water and utensils self service. I even had to go back up to get "to-go" containers. The first guy was not very welcoming. The second guy with the longer hair was slightly better. Then the second long hair guy started bussing and cleaning tables was more personable. Price - $118; expensive for what we got. Next time I will just come for the food. A more generous tip than earned or deserved. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 2012 and at this location since 2017. Good luck.

The restaurant has a full bar and dining area. The place has the feel of a family Italian restaurant. It is quaint and comfortable. We both ordered the calamari steak which came with both soup and salad included. The soup was a minestrone - 9/10 - which was delicious, hearty, and felt like it was simmering all day. I think I could've easily just eaten the soup and salad and would have been very happy. The house salad - 8/10 - had a wonderful homemade Italian dressing. This was the best house salad I have ever had. Calamari steak - 7/10 - this was cooked very nicely and was piled high with garlic. The garlic wasn't overpowering at all and mixed well with the tartar sauce. The mash potatoes - 8.5/10 - were amazing and creamy. The menu had a wide variety of dishes. Given how good everything we had was, I would guess everything on the menu is likely just as good. Last but not least our server Audrey was great. She was attentive, pleasant, always there when we needed something, but never there too much. Audrey made the whole experience just that much better. I would highly recommend.
