I came here for Thanksgiving to pick up some ham, corned beef and pastrami. I would highly recommend this over The Honey Baked Ham store as their food is pretty good. They used to have more locations, so I have fond memories of their food. They were open on Thanksgiving Day from 9 am to 2 pm. The line actually wrapped around inside the store when I came around 12:30, however I got to the right within 30 mins. So that's not bad compared to other places. You can park on the street or their lot behind the building as they have a small lot . As I mentioned earlier I got half a pound of half a chicken, ham, pastrami and corned beef. Sides where am additional $3 if you were doing the dinner specials. They also had so specials for that day , like a Turkey dinner with two sides. They gave us a tray for all our food which was super helpful when carrying it back to the car. Our favorite was the corned beef and the ham. The pastrami was good but there was some parts where it has too much fat. The chicken was ok, it was just expensive for the size. I think the next time we come back we'll just get the corned beef and ham. I hope to make this our go-to spot for our next Thanksgiving dinners in the years to come . read more

Chick N Coop is aesthetically pleasing if you like Kmart in the 80's type of cafeterias. At least they have a TV. They had the Ohio State vs. Indiana Big Ten Championship game on. I've been eating at Chicken N Coop since Moses wore short pants. With the former locations being by my house in Excelsior and one near my high school on Taravel way back when. So coming here is nostalgic, the old school dining area, the 25lb plates that would survive the apocalypse, brown trays to hold all your sides, entrees, and utensils on. It's fallen out of favor with many people thru the years but not with me. I like instant gratification as I watch them carve the protein in front of me and put it on a plate. Scooping and dropping a few sides on my tray. Why would anybody eat fast food when they could get a delicious hearty plate of food from a Hofbrau for the same price? I'll never understand. But here at Chick N Coop, they give solid portions of food. The food is well seasoned. The staff are super friendly veteran employees that know what they are doing. The owner is part of a generation that understood what a Hofbrau style establishment was. Large portioned, quality food, consistent customer service, and enough dining area for a family of eight! I ordered a corned beef sandwich and a roast beef/turkey combo plate with mashed potatoes and Mac n Cheese. Everything was awesome. The food was tasty and the servers were very patient with us, as it was our first time there. My husband got the roast beef sandwich and loved it. He got mashed potatoes with gravy and potato salad as his sides. He got rice pudding for dessert. I got a roast beef sandwich with Mayo. I asked for the sautéed onions they had at a different meat station and that hit the spot. My sandwich was pretty good, only thing missing was a slice of provolone cheese, that would have topped it off. I had a side of mashed potatoes, no gravy, and they were tasty. The inside reminded me of the 1970's and I loved it! I also loved the hanging wagon wheel. The food was reasonably price, our meals with two pops cans to $40. Old school hofbrau on the edge of Daly City with friendly staff. We'd been doing house chores all day and didn't have time to cook anything by the time dinner rolled around. And we were hungry! My husband and I both ordered a full turkey dinner, with mashed potatoes and green beans, accompanied by giant dinner rolls with foil-wrapped pats of butter. It was almost the end of dinner service so no more dark meat for me. Next time we'll try to come earlier. I also ordered a side salad for sharing but I ended up eating it all. I was THAT hungry. I've been going here since I was a kid literally over 30 years. I've moved to the East Bay but every time I go to visit family I hit up the chicken coop. I can say it's honestly been consistent forever. Yesterday I was extremely disappointed. My salad was at least a day old. It was so soggy and gross. The rice pudding was watery and the rice wasn't even cooked. I can honestly say my turkey sandwich was good a little light on the turkey but no problems with that. Bottom line is, we'll be coming back for sure. The food was a lot tastier than the other reviews led us to think. Next time, I'll ask for the part of the roast beef that's less cooked since that's what I prefer. The coleslaw was a bit different in that it tasted like sweetened, cooked shredded cabbage. We'll pass on that in the future. But other than that, we enjoyed all the rest of it. Loved it would come back! The ambiance takes us back to the past, owners and servers were excellent. This is a "don't judge a book by its cover". Would recommend and keep coming back. The chicken is a must! Got chicken, rice and corn. Rice was also flavorful. Make sure to let them know what kind of sauce you want, they usually give bbq sauce but if you want normal gravy, just tell them. Went to this joint close to closing time, but did not disappoint! I can't believe I walked by this place for about a decade. I got to roast beef dinner, and the roast beef was juicy and tender, and was great with the au jus. Mashed potatoes were really moist and went well with the gravy, and to top it off, the bread that came with my takeout dinner was so soft and fluffy, I wanted more butter with it! When the lady was cutting up the roast beef, I was not expecting much in terms of portion, but I was only able to finish half of what I ordered. This place is a few of it's kind. The first one I've every been to was on Taraval around 2007. Back then, a turkey leg would be $3.50. Not that I'm complaining about the price now cause the size is still waaaaay bigger and tastier than the ones in Disneyland. I normally come out for the roast beef or the turkey leg and never do they disappoint. You get your money's worth all for under $20 which is a steal in SF/DC. Don't mind the aesthetic as the place is a bit dim but the food will more than make up for it. The ladies behind the counter will occasionally hook it up. Try to leave a tip if you can. read more

Food is usually mediocre at best. You walk in and notice it's very dirty even with the new state guidelines during the pandemic. They're very sloppy with the way they serve your food, usually it's mixed with other food compartments. This is problematic, especially if you have any food allergies watch out. Corned beef dinner was okay, but the corned beef was like rubber and really tough. Mac and cheese tasted nothing like mac and cheese, more like chicken soup or something. Also, employees are really not friendly. They're extremely judgey, watching your every move. They had to ask us several times what our order was which was annoying considering I repeated it 5 times. Hi I'm going to be brutally and completely honest about my review. This place was probably one of the worst dine-in experiences in my entire life. This is probably way worser than Thick Of It by KSI. I've walked past this place multiple times with my friends as we walk home. We used to stand by the window and stare at the, what "seemed,, like fresh, luxurious, and appetizing rotisserie chicken. Besides that, the large poster of the family meal package, with the price of 30$ stood out to us. A meal at the local Wendy's down the street is 20$ for a person, so we thought this package deal was a big win for us. On October 10th, as me and my friends finished our important duties and responsibilities, we went to the restaurant. At first, me and my cousin made it a "surprise" for the other three friends that we were bringing along the way. But oh boy, we were all in a surprise for sure. As we walked in, it was our first time being there. The employees approached us, which made us feel pressured to order right away. My friend ordered for us, we got our trays and received our "delicious,, rotisserie chicken, two breads, and four sides. As we sat down, we didn't think that it was sooo bad. At first, it was all laughs and giggles because it was our first time dining in together, I even considered this as a club bonding. Then, that's when the experience took a turn. As my friend grabbed the utensils, and I distributed the plates, we began to eat. The chicken was absolutely dry as hell. I felt as if I overestimated this place as I continued to taste the dryness of the chicken, although I did not make any complaints yet because there were other food on the table. I watched as the misery unfold when I looked at my other friends. My friend sitting to my right said,"the jello is crunchy." Excuse me? Is that normal? I tasted the jello myself, it did not compliment the chicken at all. In fact, that's when I started contemplating my decisions. My friend sitting across from me ate the Mac and cheese. A few bites in, I noticed that my friend pushed it away. The problem was, my friend thought it was Mac and cheese, but it was macaroni salad. Despite it being something else, it tasted awful according to my friend's few bites. The texture and temperature, and the expression my friend made that very day will be something I'll never forget. I looked towards my other friend who sat directly across from me. He looked extremely depressed, and it looked like he was forcing himself to eat whatever was on his plate. However, I do have something nice to say about this place. The bread. I watched as my cousin apply the butter on the bread. Since the food was awful to begin with, I snatched a piece from him before he could try it. It was soft, and it tasted better than the proportions I previously swallowed. My friends seemed like they enjoyed it too. But as they finished the bread, the sorrowful energy came back. The laughs, and the smiles were gone at this point. I started placing my hand on my forehead. I felt so much stress trying to swallow and swallow the food, but it was hard. My friends kept complaining, and all I could do was feel sorry for them. I felt responsible for making them that way, I felt responsible for making them upset. This was my idea in the first place. I blamed my optimism, my high expectations, everything at that point. My friends kept asking each other if they were okay, especially me because of my visible upset expression. I almost started tearing up. I started talking to myself too, like why did I put us through this? why did I dress up nice for this occasion, why didn't I check the reviews sooner. To make it even worse, I know that the problem here is timing, but I had to wait half an hour for someone to use the bathroom. I had to build up the courage to use the opposite gender's bathroom. Even after using the bathroom, the vibe.. the energy at our table was still depressing. We tried to finish the food. It felt like we were at war. Fighting for our humanity. Fighting for the will to live. Fighting to continue LIVING and to continue trying to make up the money that was paid. The food, the "wonderful" experience was a total of $36 dollars in total. We packed up to leave, we left silently. I never left a place so fast in my entire life. Although, two of my friends couldn't keep quiet and kept making side complaints. I think I'd rather order a diabetic meal from McDonald's instead of wasting my money at a random restaurant. Or we should save money instead of eating out all the time. Do not eat here unless you want to feel depressed. Do not eat here unless you want a miserable, unforgettable, thanksgiving. Do not eat here unless you want to feel negative energy. Do not eat here if you want to feel guilty for wasting so much money. Do not eat here if you don't want emotionally damage. I swear, I don't think I'll ever forget this restaurant in my entire life.
