I chose this salon because of its excellent Google reviews, although I noticed the Yelp reviews were more mixed. Unfortunately, my experience was nothing like the positive reviews. From the moment I got there, I felt unwelcome. The manager (or owner) came across as rude and dismissive. I asked for a specific sheer nail color, but instead of helping me find a close match or showing me other options, she placed a random pink polish on the counter like she didn't care about what I said. The nail tech just picked up that color and started my nails. She didn't show the color or ask if it was okay. I was so shocked by the lack of customer service that I had to ask my partner to come inside and look through the polish section himself because no one was willing to help me choose another color. I have can't complain about the tech not being talkative, that's a personal preference. However, she repeatedly hit my skin with the electric nail drill. I pulled my hand away more than once because it hurt and she never apologized or acknowledged it. After all that my nails were uneven and shaped whatever way when the service was finished. I don't like bringing race into situations, but I honestly felt it played a role in how I was treated because I can't think of another explanation for the dismissive attitude and horrible service I experienced. I couldn't even express how I felt or my frustration because I didn't want to come off as an angry or upset, black woman. I walked out pissed off, not just with my nails, but with the entire experience. After all that my dumb a** still left a tip( just how I was raised) but I regret because the service did not reflect the level of professionalism or customer care I expected. read more

I only went to moon nails on Fourth of July, because my nail salon was closed. I will never go back.! She had the door propped open on a hot summer day with flies all over inside. The temp inside the nail salon was 78°. She overbooked everyone and the wait time was extremely long! I get dip done on my nails and I had to ask her to put the tinfoil with the nail polish remover over my nails to let them sit for a while. Personally, I thought she was very sloppy and in a hurry I watched her do someone's nails before mine and I was not impressed. She did not clean up her space very well after she got done with one of her clients before me. When I sat down, there was nail dust all over my chair. I wanted chrome done on top of my dip and she did not know what she was doing! Personally, I believe when you go to get your nails done and you're paying that amount of money and tipping, the inside temp should be very comfortable and you shouldn't be sweating as you're sitting there. You should not have to wait 45 minutes to an hour because she overbooked on a holiday and is more concerned about making money than she is about the wait time for her clients. The salon was not very clean with the nail dust all over my seat. The atmosphere was very dense and quiet as she did not even have any relaxing music playing. I can see the chrome on top of my nails is not spread evenly! I'm sorry, but with all the inflation happening and you splurge on going to get your nails done it should be done right! Not only that the atmosphere should not be what it was! My nail salon that I go to in Eagan is very clean! She always has relaxing music playing, I've had my nails done by three different ladies there and they all pay attention to detail and take their time! Not to mention there is no nail dust on my chair or on any of their salon desks or the floor! I'm extremely disappointed in Moon Nails in Apple Valley and I would highly recommend that you do your research and not just go with some of the other 4.5 star reviews that you see for this place! read more

First, I would like to start by stating I really love Connie as a nail tech. I went to the salon to get my nails done for my daughter's wedding. We we're all getting pedicures at another location and they did not have the color to match the nails on my hands. I ask my nail tech if I could purchase the color from them even if I could use the bottle we had done my hands with and they wanted to charge me $25 for the bottle. I decided that was too much and ask if they would give me the used bottle for $15 and they said no. The next day I decided to come back and get my toes painted and I was charged $40 with a tip of more than 20% I was charged in total $50 to get my nails painted. I think this was outrageous for this service especially seeing I tip Connie very well as she is a good tech every time I come there. I explained that this was a special circumstance seeing my daughter was getting married and I really wanted my nails to match but wanted to be with the other girls as we were all getting pedicures together and the other salon did not have this color. I think that the overcharging was absolutely outrageous and terrible customer service given the situation of my daughter's wedding. I will not return to the salon. The up pricing on services has gotten me more overpayment than just this scenario. read more

Soooo happy to be back after quarantine, visiting my favorite places and supporting local businesses. Moon Nails opened to 50% capacity this week. Reservations only. I had a pedicure. The water basins are lined with replaceable plastic. Screens separate you and the service provider. Everyone wears masks. Service providers wear gloves. Chairs, handles etc are wiped after each use. You are required to wash and scrub hands upon arriving. You also must sign a waiver. I paid in cash which was accepted. Beyond all the safety precautions, the experience was great and felt almost normal. It just was so nice to be pampered a little and my feet look and feel so much better. read more

My husband purchased a GC for me from Moon Nails over the Christmas holiday and I decided to use it the week of Valentines to get something fun. I made an appointment for 3:45 yesterday. When I got there, the owner kindly greeted me and had me sit down to pick out gel colors. I showed her a picture I found on Pinterest of nails (attached) and asked if they could do that. Yep, no problem. 20 minutes later, past my appointment time, I was finally getting my nails done. I believe the techs name was Thuy or close to that. I tried to make nice comments and conversation, but my tech wasn't interested in any small talk. Ok, fine. I also showed get the picture of what I wanted. While cutting my cuticles, she made me bleed. Awesome. And whatever she sprinkled on it made it sting. I told her no problem. As she got towards the end, she attempted to draw the hearts on the white nails with the pink polish, but said it wouldn't work. She seemed frustrated and showed me the colors I could choose from....none of which were close to the color pink on my other nails. Ok let's try black. Ick. Let's try the purple. Not a fan, but she was clearly irritated. The hearts she drew were very child-like. I'm actually a bit embarrassed by them. Overall, the nail she made bleed has a poor paint job, and the design was terrible, her table side manner was terrible, and again, I waited 20 minutes past my scheduled time. Then she tells me the fee is $35. Ok. I didn't question it and gave her a $7 tip. What made me more angry however is when looking at the price sheet after the fact, I see she had the nerve to charge me $5 for the grade school hearts. This morning I noticed the clear polish was painted on my pinky nail so poorly it dried on the side of my skin. Guessing that nail won't last. Ughhh!! The tech even asked me if I had cash for her tip. Super rude. I always bring cash to tip but don't appreciate being asked about the tip before my nails are being done. I went here on March 24th to get acrylics for my spring break florida trip which had an important photoshoot. I had been recommended here and expected it to be an amazing experience. This was not the case at all unfortunately. The gal who did my nails refused to make conversation with me even when I tried multiple times. She also refused to quote me prior to the service even though she knew exactly what I wanted? I am a high school student on a budget so this concerned me- it ended up being roughly $80. This is completely different than what I saw others being charged on reviews so I was shocked. I was even more concerned that she had cut me in 3 different places on my cuticles and fingers.. I was so disappointed cause I wanted to make this place my new regular spot.. my sister had the male manager and was treated much better and with a cheaper quote and got to end her service with an arm massage and a kind conversation unlike me. -They also broke within a week.. I just moved to the area and was searching for a place to get my nails done; Moon Nails had a great rating and was close to my new home. I only get dip nails because I've always had a hard time growing my nails; so I asked my manicurist to put on 3 dip layers as I always get for extra protection. She gets very irritated at this point but does it, as soon as she's done what I've asked of her she takes out her dermal and GRINDS IT ALL OFF!! At this point my nails are now very thin, and I'm not a happy camper. So long story short my nails end up falling off within a week as well as my natural nails that she ruined in the process broke and it peeled off. read more

Price is ok. Place is really nice, a lot of the chairs are broken so the massage part does not work any longer. I have only gotten pedicures there so I am not sure about the finger nail section or how well they do that. As far as pedicures...not the best place..mine always seem to chip within the first week which is frustrating. I can go other places and the polish never chips..this place, I woke up a few days later and almost the entire nail chipped off in one piece while I was asleep! I was initially happy with my service. That ended fast. The women go really fast and have nicked and cut my fingers or the fingers of someone I've gone with just about every time I went. Each time they blamed me or my friend, saying it was our fault because we had hangnails. (Not true, but even if we did, that shouldn't cause them to cut our skin so it bled!) The first few times I wrote it off as bad luck. But it kept happening... The last time I was in the skin next to my nail was cut so bad, it would not stop bleeding! They took a huge chunk out. The woman tried to keep going, but I made her stop so I could put pressure on it to stop the bleeding. I was trying to get my nails done for an upcoming trip and they ended up injuring me! Both the owners were there and saw the whole thing and did not say a thing to me! I didn't let the woman continue with the service (because my finger would stop bleeding! And I didn't want her using any more cutting tools on my nails!!) I showed the huge gash in my finger to the owners, and they just said to put some glue on it (no thanks!) I was mad they didn't at least offer a discount on my next service or apologize or SOMETHING! I had to just sit there and wait for my friend to get done with her nails, while I applied pressure to my bleeding finger with gauze. It gets better. The woman doing my friend's nails told me I could come back for a free pedicure. Finally. I asked her if I could get something written down and so she wrote her name on the back of a card and said not to worry. Come back and I'd be taken care of, she says. A week or so later after I healed I came back for the pedicure. The owners were there and they recognized me. So did half of the staff. I got my pedicure and then when the lady asked for payment I told her I had a free pedicure but would give her her tip. She went over and told the owner. And the owner started yelling at me! She said she never gave me a free pedicure! I reminded her of the hack job, and she tried saying it was MY fault and it was not the worker's fault and she didn't approve the free pedicure. She should have been the one to offer me the free pedicure! And now SHE was making a huge scene. I showed her the card from the woman who offered it to me, and she tried calling her because she didn't believe me! It was unbelievable. Time to find a new nail salon. I have been going to Moon Nails since they opened. However, today I was thoroughly disappointed. My technician did not even say hello or introduce herself. In the beginning, she and the tech next to her continued a lively and LOUD conversation-not very relaxing. It seemed as if she couldn't get me out of there fast enough and then appeared to be falling asleep while doing a very weak massage. My nails were decent looking I personally thought it was a bit weird these "gels" chipped off in a week but I can't blame it on them because that's the nail polishes fault anyway. What really ticked me off is the dude doing my nails asked what my cuts are from... I just said "uh I fell.." and he was like "what you fell *laughing*" and so I was really uncomfortable because I'm pretty sure he obviously knew they were done in a pretty straight pattern.... he didn't ask anything after that but I never went back because I was too uncomfortable as for price though it was really good usually gels cost like $26 and these were like 12. I've been to Moon Nails a bunch of times and it's super convenient since I live right in that neighborhood. The staff is always very very nice, they are extremely good at what they do. I always get a pedicure and they are amazing. The location is very clean, the equipment is always sterilized and I've never felt uncomfortable with anything they are using, etc. I can't say that of other locations in the area, sadly. Good: - Nails looked good at the end - She wasn't rough with my cuticles for the most part - Clean facility - Got service right away Bad: - No prices listed anywhere, so you have no idea what you'll be paying - I told her what I wanted (gel manicure) and she kept pushing me to get the French manicure. I told her no, but she pushed even more. Eventually I said ok (what an idiot for falling for it), and she charged me significantly more for it. - Asked me in a whiny voice if I was sure I didn't want a pedicure. I hate when they push stuff like that. - Cut one of my cuticles too close so it started to bleed. - It cost me $35 for a gel french manicure. Is it just me or is that really expensive??
