We have been interested in trying this restaurant for a while based on recommendations and reviews. Just the number of Michael's reviews is an indicator of the quality of their food. The ladies serving us were friendly and efficient even though they were initially very busy. The lunch crowd quickly cleared out. We both ordered Pad Tia as having missed having a good dish of it since moving to Reno. It was very good, a bit expensive, but worth it based on portion size as we both made another meal of the leftovers on the next day. The shrimp was delicious and not overcooked too. We will be back to try their soups etc during cooler months. The restaurant is pretty large and very clean with an appropriate ambience. Okay so the food is actually pretty good and pricing competitive, hence the 4 stars, but the lack of service was just so off-putting. We came on a Sunday night and the spot was poppin. It's a good size space inside, but it was slow moving as they did not utilize every table. We waited about 45 min to be seated, and then almost an hour for our food to arrive. We had to ask for utensils, plates, water refills, etc as these things were not brought to us. We had the Moo Ping, which are grilled pork skewers. These are nice and tender, served with some cukes and a tangy dipping sauce. It's technically an app but the time between when this was served, versus our other entrees, was ridiculously long. We had ordered rice as well, so that would have been nice to go along with the skewers but we didn't receive the rice until our other food arrived. We also got drunken noodles and the krapow basil with beef. Portions for both were great, and I'd def come back for the drunken noodles. The noodles and veggies in this dish were cooked perfectly. We got the krapow basil medium spicy, which was a good heat level for us. The beef was tender, veggies still had a slight crunch, but the sauce was a little bit tooo salty for my liking. It went well with the rice though! FYI- beef is a $2 up charge. Their menu is a lot smaller than other places, but of the dishes we tried, we were satisfied. Our biggest issue was just the wait time. They had a lot of to go orders they were filling, so those are likely prioritized. They're located in a plaza along with other businesses and restos, so parking isn't hard to find. If I'm ever back in the area, I'd visit again, but I'd make sure to come during non peak hours or call in an order to go. FYI - dishes do not come with steamed rice. 2 orders of rice are probably good for 2-3 people, maybe even 4 depending on what else is ordered. read more

I've been wanting to try this place ever since I moved to midtown. I love their Wu Tang shirts they weren't too busy for a Wednesday night but they started to pick up around 7-730pm. Service was quick and food came out hot and fresh. We started with the fried spring rolls. Crunch on the outside and warm and delicious on the inside. It came with a vinegar dipping sauce. Yummy! For my entree I chose the stir fry - garlic and pepper with pork belly. Served with cabbage, carrots and broccoli. This may have been the best pork belly I've had at a restaurant. A little crispy and cooked to perfection. I had a bite of the pad Thai. Always a classic and it was done really well Large menu and lots of fun items I'd like to try in the future. This place is the best Thai in town. We go once a week. I love the similan noodles... never had anything like it. I also love the kra pow stir fry (get two stars or it's a little bland). I have now been to Moo Dang more than a dozen times. I used to live in Reno and now live 90 minutes away in Cuisine Desert, CA. For us, Reno is an oasis of food and art. So you may consider how that influences my 5 star review. However I have also traveled a good amount and I feel my 5 stars have some weight to them. And so Moo Dang would be my #1 recommend to anyone who happens to be in Reno for a visit. I trust that their service will be timely and attentive. There is no air of pretension or snobbery. It is a comfortable, clean and affordable restaurant (for these days prices anyway). Excellent for a sit down experience or to take to go. I have had numerous dishes but my favorites are the Laab, Eggplant Stir Fry, Pad See Ew and Tom Kha Gha. These were all excellent renditions of these dishes based upon numerous other experiences at restaurants of this cuisine. Lastly I want to mention they have awesome merch! I saw the staff bussing tables and I thought the food must be good for them to be this busy! I was right! Their dishes were all delicious! We started off with calamari, crispy and delicious! The chili dipping sauce goes great with the fried calamari. We've ordered their pad Thai, eggplant, drunken noodles, and crab fried rice. Everything tasted so good! This was our second time in Moo Dang, and their food always brought me back to Thailand (Bangkok, Koh Pangan, and Chiang Mai), when I visited the country in 2015. Pad Thai reminded me the cooking lesson I had in Chiang Mai. I can taste the fish sauce, the nuts, and it was exactly what I had in Thailand. Although In Chiang Mai and Koh Pangan, they wrapped the pad Thai with scrambled eggs, in Moo Dang, there were no scrambled eggs. It's alright though, 'cause they still tasted authentic. It was my first time to try the Thai curry, and it tasted really good, with a kick of sweetness. Interesting that I can taste roasted nuts in the curry, which is something I want to learn when recreating the dish. During the first time we dined here, I had chicken Tom Yum -- this was my least favorite Thai dish ever since, just because it was only a tomato soup base and chicken. My stubborn palate still ordered this dish, and I regretted ordering. Although it tasted good and authentic, I'm not fond of just a soup and chicken, without any vegetables. One of my favorites in Moo Dang was it's grilled pork skewers called "Moo Ping", it was so tender and marinated to perfection. I am so happy we found this restaurant, 'cause I will definitely come back here again, and try other Thai Food. The staffs are very kind, friendly, and accomodating. Funny they always ask if I am Thai (i always get that question - kob khun kha!). Also, I do appreciate when we called and asked to prepare our order beforehand because we have a commitment in an hour. They took our order over the phone, and prepared them before we got there -- thank you, cause we got to our commitment on time! The ambiance is good. It's entertaining to look at the Thai movie posters on the wall. My son enjoyed looking at them, pointing at the spaceship, the huge lizard that looked like Godzilla, and other posters. My girlfriend, son and myself decided to have dinner at Moo Dang yesterday. We sat in a very comfortable booth and were pleasantly surprised with the various entrees. My son is vegan and gluten free, I'm gluten free. There were many choices for all of us. The food was delicious. My girlfriend and I enjoyed appetizer, Satay and my son had the Fried Tofu. Ok first off some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time. The curry was so tasty and they actually give you a good amount of rice with it. The pad Thai tho exceeded my expectations. There was actually sauce on the noodles, it was super flavorful. I wish there were a couple more veggies in there. I will say the decor was lacking. But there are a lot of tables and we were able to get seated pretty much right away on a busy Friday. Even tho the staff was friendly and accommodating it took a long time to get our food and for some reason the soup came after the entrees. I finally made it to Moodang! First off, the staff is so friendly! They took the time to answer our questions and recommend few dishes. Well not only is the name of this place fun but I love the decorated food cart as the front desk when you walk in! I love to see aspects of the culture incorporated. The only thing I didn't love about the ambiance was there was 1-2 flies that kept nothing us throughout while we ate. For this reason I couldn't give it five stars, but the food was five stars! I had a large Tom ka soup, a coconut zesty soup. It was so flavorful and the large was enough to take half home for dinner. It was very hot temp wise, even after sitting for about 4 minutes. I took a large sip and had to let it back out of my mouth into the bowl of soup because it was burning my tongue. My childhood bestje had pad Thai spicy level one. It was amazing as everyone said on the reviews. Perfectly chewy noodles and sweet sauce. I also had Thai tea (the sweet orange stuff). Loved loved of course. Finally had an opportunity to dine in. We were there just after the lunch hour, so the restaurant was pretty quiet. The atmosphere was nice, with a distinct sense of Thailand. The wait staff, Thai, were very friendly and happy to take care of us. We started with the Chicken Satay, a perennial favorite. Marinated white meat chicken and grilled to perfection, the chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful. When you add the Peanut dipping sauce, perfection. My wife had the Pad Thai. Served with Chicken and Shrimp, there was no shortage of flavor. Often Pad Thai can be dry, not at Moo Dang. The Pad Thai had a nice sauciness to it, adding to the flavor. I had the Basil Fried Rice. The Fried Rice was moist (not dry) and rich with flavor. The Basil was a nice addition to the base flavors. Served with Chicken and veggies a wonderful combination of flavors. Must say this visit was quite a bit better than our last one. The food was way better as I had the Tom Yum Fried Rice. There was plenty of protein in the dish as opposed to the last time we came. The service was friendly and quick. The appetizer, the Fried Spring Rolls was really good as well. Great location and lots of parking made the trip even better. My only small quibble is the restaurant needs an upgrade. It's pretty dated and would really improve the overall experience with a sprucing up of the place. Went on a weekend night of holiday weekend and there was quite a wait to be seated. Highly recommend calling ahead as this seems to be the standard lately. Absolutely incredible Thai food. Their sukothai soup was our favorite (although hard to choose a favorite). My husband described the flavor as fresh. I agree, so flavorful and fresh! Love the textures in this one as well! Their pad Thai is one of the bests I've had which is saying a lot! This is my Thai food staple. Recommend trying their Thai iced tea if you're looking for a fun treat. I do wish they served a hot version for the cold winter months and hot Thai tea paired with Thai food is a favorite comfort of mine. Overall, great experience. We went to dinner here for my daughter's 18th birthday. I did make a reservation. There were 8 in our party. The place was pretty full especially for a Tuesday. It is fairly large inside and has a lot of tables. They took our order fairly quickly. We ordered about 5 appetizers and each person an entree. The first three appetizers came out at a Decent pace, the 4th one seemed to take a bit longer. But the 5th wasn't served until after all the entrees had pretty much been eaten. The service was terrible. I think they only refilled our drinks once because we flagged them down. The food on the other hand is fabulous. Everything we had from chicken satay, spring rolls, calamari, pork fried rice, pad de ew, etc., was Incredible. However they never cleared a dish. So we had so many piled up, especially after the appetizers were done, there wasn't any room on the table. They never checked on us after food was served. Now this is authentic Thai food! Super funny place and conveniently located in midtown. Word of caution, spice is real here so if you don't like spice then make sure to order no spice. I usually can handle spice so I said mild and it was spicy for me. So just be cautious with your spice level. But other than that, this place is soooo yummy! We had the panag curry and drunken noodles. The noodles were so good! We had the fresh roll for an appetizer and it's very fresh like the name implies. I liked they add mushrooms to their rolls which I never had before so it was a nice addition. Service was great! Super friendly staff! Since it's tucked in the heart of midtown you actually won't have any issues with parking. They have their own dedicated parking lot so plenty of parking nearby.
