We came here twice with friends this week because we enjoyed their lunches and dessert so much. My husband and I ordered the pork tacos and fish & chips-both very flavorful. When we asked our server what type of fish it had been, he said Marlin! We also shared the orange cream pie for dessert and it was perfect for people who like orange flavor. Service was friendly and fast. Great views and live music also. Inside Whalers Village.
Great dinner! Suggest to come early, as the crowd becomes sizeable after 5:30ish, even mid-week. They have a digital waiting line, though, so you can browse the shops before your table is ready (must check in at the desk first). Our family had the fish and chips (husband, who said they were better than at Hula Grill), avocado and cucumber salad and poke tacos (me, both were satisfying), and noodles with butter (my kid, who are the whole bowl). I also had a Mai Tai which was enjoyable, the lilikoi foam in particular. We sat inside, and there was a very nice breeze through the restaurant so it didn't get too hot, and we weren't in the evening sun. Service was efficient and quick!
For years, we've been coming to grab a bite at Monkeypod Kaanapali when we're up in the area. Although we've haven't been here for some time, the restaurant seems to have faltered a bit in food quality and food prep. Of course we understand that operation costs have increased, yet the prices were a bit steep for what one receives. Location, location, location. The Ahi Tuna Tacos had a very minimal amount of ahi on top of a large quantity of cabbage tucked into the small wonton shell. The ginger was missing and the shoyu wasn't noticeable at all. The Lobster Deviled Eggs were well prepared with plenty of creamy egg filling, but the very small sliver of lobster topping each of the four egg white halves addded zero flavor. The lobster meat was used more as a decoration than a main ingredient. The total flavor of the rich, velvety texture of the filing was excellent, but again, the slivers of lobster added zero flavor. Pete's Fish & Chips was quite delectable with the daily catch of today's offering using mahi-mahi fish. The tempura style coating was a bit flat in taste and crunch, but overall the fish and coating was not greasy and was enjoyable. The fries served with the fish were quite limp, but had a good flavor. The pizza oven, however, was out of operation waiting for a part. The service from Zachary was spot on. He was very friendly, and attentive during our meal, but was not intrusive. It was quite warm inside the restaurant, so we sat on the outer patio area, which still allowed us to enjoy the live music, which plays daily between 11am to 9pm. The restaurant is usually loud and quite busy.
One of the prettiest places we dined while in Maui. We were lucky enough to get a table with an incredible view. I was surprised how fast we got seated and even more surprised how quickly we received our food. All the food was great, and our server was fantastic! The Kalua Pork and Pineapple pizza is one of the best things I ate while in Hawaii. The flavors blend perfectly! The only thing I would not rate five stars would be the coconut cream pie, it was pretty bland and I would not recommend ordering it.
When we come to visit Maui, this is our go to for Mai tai and lunch. This Monkeypod is located in the Whaler's Village. You can do a little shopping and stop by here for lunch. They have a parking garage for Whaler's village. You can get a validation from the restaurant when you dine here. All the times I have visited, the food is pretty good. I really like there poke tacos. It's a yummy little appetizer. The poke is fresh and has good flavor. Their fish and chips are always good. That is always fried to crispy outside and the fish is cooked just right. The fish has good flavor and the fries are pretty good, too. I do like their fish sandwich. They are known for their Mai Tai drinks. My husband always orders one when we are here. LOL. You can't go wrong dining here. The owners are the people who own Merriman's. That place is good too. They are doing it right at both restaurants.
We had a friendly server, I really don't have any beef with him. The chairs are not made for everyone, I did ask a waitress if I could swap it for another chair... after some attitude that was flaking off she agreed as long as "I put it back" (right)... I wanted a burger, today is day 2 for us here in Maui... the Dukes 1/3 burger is haunting me (gonna have to get it after this burger) I wanted an Apple Cider... they offered cider, but the menu wasn't clear in its layout. When I asked my server for his opinion, he really didn't have one. I took Apple... have to say, as ciders go, it's on the rounder, softer side (a menu note would have saved me from ordering) and since I've never had a Maui Cider, I'd give it a shot, lesson learned! My beef (no puns intended) is the burger. When I first ordered a "King Kong" little did I know I was in the children's section. I told my waiter I wanted an "adult sized burger and fries". I wanted my burger well done (they got that right out of the gate) but the fries were also overcooked! When the table ribbed me that I hit the child burger, and the second one came, it looked the same... ON THE SMALLER SIDE! I was hungry, and hunger makes the best spice. I will tell you, the Ahia Tuna melt looked bigger than my burger! For what you are charging, I'd expect a larger patty. I'm not asking for a Los Angeles sized patty like you get at Lawry's, or a WeHo burger like the Palm serves, or even the burger at Cafe Bijou in Agoura Hills... The Diet Coke was flat too... The saving grace was my wife's Coconut Chowder... but you would think there would be more vegan alternatives for what they offer. I went in hopeful... left hungry.
When you're in Maui, this is the place to go for killer Mai Tai and they're right! Mai Tai's were fantastic! Food wise, we ordered the Seared Ahi, it was delicious and fresh and the sauces were perfect, next was the poke tacos-they were delicious, the fish and chips-hmm the fish proportions were big and solid, but fries were not fresh, a little stale. Their service was attentive, waiter filled our drinks and checked on us several times. I wish we went during the day, i'm sure it has fantastic view of the water but in general it's a good place to hang out with live music.
Monkeypod has been on our list every time we've gone to Maui, and we finally got to during this most recent trip. This location is located inside Whaler's Village, an outdoor mall in the Ka'anapali area. We made a reservation for 9 PM (it was the only time left) but we ended up getting to the mall a few hours early so we just wrote our name to the list and they texted us when our table was ready about an hour later. Everything we got was great. We had the deviled eggs and one of the salads for appetizer, the fish & chips, fish tacos, pesto gnocchi, and of course, the famous Monkeypod mai thais. These mai thais live up to the hype - that foam is SO good and this drink alone makes the trip worth it. Pricing is definitely on the higher side. Tip for parking: if you park in the mall parking garage, they will validate your ticket here - make sure you remember as the rates get pricey. Overall a pleasant experience and would come back again.
Stopped in for a quick lunch while visiting Whaler's Village and was seated immediately, with prompt service throughout our meal. We ordered the truffle fries, mushroom pizza, mahi tacos, and ahi poke tacos. They also offered complimentary macaroni with cheese and red sauce for keiki under 3, which was a thoughtful touch. Unfortunately, the food was a hit or miss. The pizza crust was soggy, and the toppings slid off when you tried to pick up a slice. The mahi tacos came with a chipotle mole that made the dish spicy. The standout dish were the ahi tacos. Overall, beautiful views of Kaanapali, but the food was pretty average.
We came here on the final day of our honeymoon! Sad we didn't realize this spot sooner. We heard it was a popular spot and when we arrived we quickly realized that, with the long wait times. The place was lively and the employees all super kind. We opted to sit at the bar which was a great experience. The bartender honestly made the experience! He was kind, upbeat and a great conversationalist. We didn't get a picture of our food but everything was amazing! We both got the fresh caught fish tacos. The bartender treated us to a complimentary dessert which was played beautifully. It was a delicious strawberry cream pie which I had never had. We can't wait to return to Maui & to Monekypod to try more food!
My husband and I love the original Merriman's restaurant, and were excited when we heard about the more casual, sister restaurant in originally Wailea, but now also Ka'anapali. I've actually been here two times now, kind of left with similar impressions. Everything is decent, but nothing really standing out, and very expensive for what it is. We got the poke tacos, which was decent, but $27. It was very expensive for an appetizer to share. My husband got the Maui Cattle Company Cheese Burger, which was $23. It was on the medium side, and didn't come with any fries. I don't mind paying $23 for a burger, but it better be substantial, extremely good, and/or come with fries. For my entree, I got the Fresh Island Fish sandwich ($28), in which they change up the fish daily. I think mine was the Mahi Mahi that day. It tasted fine, nothing amazing, but was also small. It also, similarly to the burger, didn't come with any fries or side. It just seemed so expensive for a tiny fish sandwich that didn't even come with fries. I'm not going to let them live down the fries! I'm glad we got the appetizer, and a side of fries to share, because we would have still been hungry otherwise. In addition, I noticed there was no difference in the lunch or dinner menu. For dessert, we got a slice of the Banana Cream Pie, which was so delicious!!!! This one was amazing. It had something called apple banana in it, which was some local fruit - tasted amazing. The pie in general tasted amazing. This was worth getting. I'm looking at the Happy Hour menu now, and it's very limiting. $4 off the cocktails sounds great, but when the cocktails are regularly priced at $20, yikes that's still expensive. The appetizers are half off, except seafood?! I will say that the service was excellent. Our waiter was particularly accommodating, especially with our toddler, who was sleeping in a stroller during the duration of the lunch. I also really enjoyed the interior of the restaurant, which was kind of how I imagine most Hawaiian restaurants to be, indoor with no windows some half outdoor in some sense with the breeze coming through, live music, and warm and inviting, yet casual interior. We didn't have live music during our lunch hour, but I noticed on their website that they do have live music daily for dinner. We ended up leaving the restaurant feeling kind of ripped off. I can't say I really loved the food here, but the experience was decent. Just an average experience over all, not my favorite. This was a huge bummer because I really enjoy the regular Merriman's restaurants still. I would return perhaps only for happy hour, only for a cocktail and a slice of that Banana Cream pie, hopefully hearing some of that live music.
We had a great waiter but I did not get his name. He told us about a beach to snorkel to avoid paying 1k for a boat and we checked it out and had the best snorkel experience thanks to him! Our drinks and food were good and the whole ambiance was vacation vibes. Quick service, good drinks and good food. Thank you to the waiter for slaughterhouse beach recommendation!!!

Had a wonderful experience at Monkey Pod! The food was excellent and the overall ambience was very pleasant. What truly stood out was an excellenct customer service and his name is Allan -- he was incredibly nice, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. Highly recommended, and we will definitely be coming back next vacation. Pls order their Mai Tai and macadamia crusted fish! And also their coconut pai! read more

We loved Monkeypod so much on our trip to Maui, we came here twice for dinner. Love that this restaurant is right by the beach - get a seat outside, and you'll be able to see the ocean from there. We were debating which restaurant to go to, and this one not only have the best reviews, but it also had a decent happy hour from 3:30-5pm. Drinks are incredible, and food is so delicious. They had one of the best Mai Tais I've ever had. It was both strong and tasty, but where they shined was with the honey-lilikoi foam - really brought it to the next level. As would be expected, their fish is so fresh and flavorful. The fish tacos, fish sandwich, and macadamia nut crusted fresh fish were all so good. Each one spiced up the dish in its own unique way. The sauce for the macadamia fish was so light and creamy and a perfect compliment to the fish. The strawberry cream pie is the perfect dessert to end the meal. The restaurant gets pretty busy and lively, so I wouldn't come here with the expectation to have a quiet, intimate dinner. That being said, it's an enjoyable and fun lively vibe that just puts you in a good mood. Even though it was busy, service was good and efficient. Great spot for lunch, dinner, or happy hour with a partner, friends, or a large group of people. read more

If you needed another reason to come here, the lobster deviled eggs are IT! Mai tai was great as many people said, but I could eat 15 of those deviled eggs. The Fish was also fresh and crisp, nothing crazy though. Amazing live music ambience with the best view. read more

I would not come back here. Got the fish tacos waaay overcooked and really nothing special. Got the poke tacos that had a sauce on top that was just pure salt and I love salt so don't get that either. Get some fries and a salad and enjoy the live music and keep in mind parking validation is only for 2 hours. Service was pretty nice and ambiance is fairly nice. It's essentially a bar with a nice view. Also do not get a pizza - looks terrible but can't vouch for the taste. read more

I've been to the Monkeypod in Wailea and Ko Olina and expected this location at Whalers Village to be equivalent and consistent with the others, but unfortunately it was not. I just wanted a cocktail and a small bite to eat, so I ordered my usual mai tai and poke tacos. The mai tai came first and there was something off about it. First of all, the presentation was lacking in terms of the foam. The mai tai was extremely strong, which for most people would not be a problem, but I appreciate a well-balanced mai tai and this was not it. And the poke tacos shrank significantly since the last time I've had them! There were 3 total, however I ate them in 3 bites! For $24, it was definitely not worth it. The poke was also not as fresh as I've had it at other locations. My total bill came out to $41 without tax & tip, which is a bit much for 1 mai tai and 3 bite-sized tacos that were just average. The service, however, was good and you can't beat the ambiance! read more

One of the first stops on our Maui vacation was Monkeypod. Full disclosure we came here about three different times so you might be able to tell we enjoyed ourselves. We went there once for lunch, once for dinner, once for dessert and to listen to live music. The vibe here is so nice and had us in pure vacation mode drinking Mai Tais and ordering pineapple pizza. We also tried wings and fish tacos and dessert and each visit was fun and filled with delicious food. The servers were all great and friendly and quick with a recommendation or two. Be sure to stop in and check the wait times for a guaranteed vacation style meal. read more

We stoped in at the Monkey Pod Kitchen restaurant on a Saturday night a couple hours before closing. We chose to sit at the bar because we would've been 21st in line on the waiting list. We enjoyed craft beer and a couple appetizers for our light dinner. We went with the Mahi Mahi tacos and the Poke tacos. They were both very tasty with our beers. We've heard for several years that we must try the amazing Mai tai at this restaurant. I have to say it was just ok. In my opinion; and my husband's, the Westin hotel has a much better one and even Dina's Sandwitch in Sugar Beach Resort had amazing Mai Tais! Save your money and go to Dina's! read more

Vegan review only - they got rid of the vegan corn chowder and this is very upsetting. That thing was the best. There wasn't a ton of vegan options but I was always happy to come and get the vegan coconut corn chowder and get a salad. They replaced it with "vegan tortilla soup" which was very thick (more like a stew) and really not that impressive. It was fine. I also got the kale salad, and was underwhelmed. The dressing doesn't take like much and I'm not really a fan of that many raw onions. Best part was the macadamia nuts. Our server Phin was very helpful. She explained that if I was happy to eat honey, I could get one of the pizzas, but obviously modified for no meat and no cheese. She offered to sub mushrooms or any other veggie for the meat toppings, but I wasn't really interested in getting a no cheese pizza. There's a sorbet option for dessert. The rest of my family (one vegetarian and three omnivores) seem to be pretty happy eating here. Lots of vegetarian options. The vegetarian says they have a good value happy hour. As a vegan, I'm not going back. (Unless they bring back the corn chowder.) There's live music from local musicians, which is cool. And it's right on the beach and open air so you get nice sunset views. They don't take reservations, so get there early or be prepared to wait and wonder the shops of whaler village. They validate parking in the garage, but we always walk. read more

Our entire family enjoyed our visit to Monkeypod Kitchen for dinner. The service is slow so it is not the place to go in a hurry but the food was great! The server had great recommendations and the dishes we ordered were full of flavor. The prices seemed to be fair for the portions. They also had a lot of options for drinks made zero proof. We finished our meal off with a couple of the delicious pies to share. The restaurant has live music in the evenings and can get very loud so it's a great place to take the whole family. They will validate parking for up to 2 hours. read more

Monkeypod is a must visit for us each time we are in Maui. We try to be there during Happy Hour to enjoy a Mai Tai and an order of Garlic Truffle Fries before our dinner. I ordered the Fish and Chips and the portions were great. I could only finish 2 of the 3 pieces of fish. My wife enjoyed her cheeseburger. I'm not a fan of the 4% Kitchen fee since you're already paying Island prices but we've seen a similar charge at several restaurants during our visit. read more

We really liked this restaurant during our trip to LaHaina. Great ambiance and a great view. Lively scene. Many locals there as well as tourists. We had the hostess seat us at the bar. Grea5 service from our bartender. We split a tortilla soup which was very satisfying. Fish sandwich for my date and Jamaican jerk chicken for me. Both were excellent. I tried the recommended locally produced rum. It was great. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's in the Whaling villainess shopping center. Upscale shopping with lots of restaurants. Anytime we are In Hawaii we always eat at Monkeypod, it had typically been a quality and consistently good place to eat. On our last trip to Maui, we were very disappointed. The service was lacking and the food wasn't cooked properly and didn't taste great. We ordered the chicken wings and truffle fries for appetizers. The chicken wings weren't cooked all the way and while the fries tasted ok, it was al the bits and small pieces and almost no full size fries. Servers seemed more interested in talking and dancing with each other than being attentive to tables. For entrees, we ordered the fish tacos, burger and margarita pizza. The pizza was good, at least our son liked it. The fish tacos had dry overcooked fish and were somewhat bland. The burger was more rare than preference but was not seasoned and bland. Food came out different times, although I guess the pizza comes from a different kitchen so timing is a bit more challenging. That said it meant our son was done with his meal before we got ours. Place was very busy but with the fires in Lahaina, less restaurants means whalers village locations are more heavily impacted. What had previously been a go-to place reminded us of a mediocre chain restaurant. The restaurant is large and has great views of the ocean. Place seemed otherwise clean and well kept. There is live music in the evening. They do validate parking but note it's only for two hours. 3 adults with apps and entrees cost was almost $200 with tip. Not worth the price. read more

It made me a believer in pineapple pizza. I'm from nyc & pride myself on eating good pizza! The pork & pineapple pizza did not disappoint. It was delicate & well-done. The fish dishes & drinks were on point & very reasonably priced. The ambiance here was excellent: the acoustics in this place were perfect - the live music served as a soundtrack for the restaurant. Sometimes, live music overpowers & makes it hard to have conversation. Service here was very attentive & prompt: food came out quickly. Our waitress was a delight! A plus! read more
Our server Stacy was amazing! We've been to Monkeypod in Oahu before, but not on Maui. Chill more casual vibe and a great happy hour. No reservations at this location, so plan on a bit of a wait. We were going to get seated far from the water and were told it was another 15minutes to get sat closer. Waited 15 more minutes to be sat at the second to last table from the opposite end of the water. So that was a waste of time. Mai tais, pizzas, tacos, burgers, and truffle fries are great. Wings are super rosemary seasoned, not for me. read more

Beautiful location! There's a great view from the restaurant but the inside is beautifully decorated. Our server was great and attentive; she gave us great recs too! They're known for their mai tais. It's good but it's definitely on the tangier side. I ordered a margarita pizza and didn't really care for the big chunky tomatoes; it was quite odd. But the pizza tastes great otherwise! My partner ordered a burger and he said it was alright. I'd definitely return to try some other items! read more

We were in Maui for 4 nights and ate her twice, it was so good. I wish I could say I tried different menu items but the gnocchi was so good that I had it twice! And will dream of it when I'm gone our servers both times were friendly and attentive. The Mai Thai is bomb Whatever they put on top is amazing. My friend had the pizza both times and loved it. We had a taro ravioli appetizer that was AMAZING!!! Like OMG so good! I'd have loved it as a main dish. We got it to share so of course I was left wanting more! The view of the ocean is beautiful and the live music was the a nice addition! If you're in Maui, don't forget to try Monkeypod out! read more

Arrived 7/10 but waited a few days to actually come and take advantage of their happy hour. Place was super busy, but they kindly let us sit in the bar area even before 3:30. Very nice of them to let that happen! Decided to have a mai tai as did my husband & we split the Margherita pizza. The pizza was OK. I think it needed a little bit more cheese, but decent. The mai tais, while still yummy, weren't as delicious as last year. We have literally been having MP Mai Thai withdrawals since June '24... but we simply weren't wagging our tails this time. Idk why, but ehh pass on a 2nd visit. read more

We took my father here for his 70th and this place did not dissapoint. Our server was 10/10. The food was 10/10. The drinks were 10/10. We loved that we were sat right next to the water view and that there was live music. Our group was vegetarian and we ordered every vegetarian item on the menu the worst item was the water and who doesn't like Hawaiian water. read more

There are limited options but the fish tacos with GF are good. The staff is knowledgeable about GF options.

Is Happy Hour only served in the bar area? How early should I get there for HH?
Happy Hour is served in the restaurant also! Hard to say how early because it depends on how busy it is. Last May we were seated with 5 minutes left and I just ordered two Mai Tais for myself :-).
How far in advance do you accept reservation for both locations on Maui?
They do not take reservations but I recommend putting in your name and walking around the shopping area during your waiting time and you won't even notice you waited!
What's the difference between this place vs Monkeypod kitchen by Merriman?
This is the same family of restaurants. Head Chef runs both locations and is often in the Wailea location in the afternoon, then the Westside location in the evening or vice versa.
