Came for a quick burger and beer and was satisfied. There was a local comedy event going on when we got there but the stage room was full so we just sat by the bar. The burger was good but pricey for the size. The fries were delicious though and cooked to my preference! I noticed pin ball machines in the stage room and outdoor games so it's cool that there's games and stuff to do!

It's on like Donkey Kong at the Monkey Barrel. Touting it's the "Gen-X Home of the Mile High City", this neighborhood bar has a bit of everything. Multiple photos and movie posters adorn the walls of the inside with familiar faces from the 80s and 90s. As Tiffany looked over my shoulder at my table in the bar, I definitely did not think we're alone now as there were many other customers in the gaming area as well as the patio outside. QR menus are everywhere to look at food and drink menus. Drinks must be ordered at the bar. Food is run to your table. My friend tried one of their nostalgic cocktails. All have names based on 80s & 90s favorites such as Pearl Jam, Mortal Kombat, and Otter Pops. I went with a basic vodka soda since most seemed a bit on the sweet side. There are many forms of entertainment for customers. We went during the day on break so there were several children enjoying video games and pinball in the game room, and the extra large Connect Four outside. This Gen-Xer and my Millennial Bestie entertained ourselves with a memory game we created on the spot of guessing who each celebrity was when a photo of them was randomly displayed on one of the bar TVs. One of my favorites was preteen JT and Ryan Gosling back in their Mouseketeer days. Cue the music: M-O-N: eNjoyed our time here K-E-Y : why, because it's different B-A-R-R-EL

I came here for the fan expo cup of the year. Food was okay, not sure what i wanted and how hungry i was so i just opt for the green chili cheese fries. It was okay. The pork just didn't look good not much of green chili the taste was there. My brother got the fries pickles it was good and his gf got a wrap. Over all what i got not a gan i would come back to try something else. The service is great. You can order on your phone which i what i did and sat outside on the patio. Great ambience nice chill out sport to drink

Delicious food, fun atmosphere. 100% going to be a fun night out! The service was seamless and the bartenders were funny. I would highly recommend coming here for a fun night out with friends- get an otter pop for nostalgia and check out their mystery vending machine!

Came here on a Sunday evening and it was nice. We were able to find parking around the block. We were sat outside on a nice evening and it was relaxing. We ordered some appetizers and my friends were able to find something vegetarian for them to eat. We ordered food from the QR code at the table and food came out in ~10 minutes. They have a good deal on their house beer for $4 which was great. I ordered the fried pickles and there were lots of choices for the side sauce. They were very average but hit the spot. The food was a good price and overall just a nice time.

Fun concept for those who hold dear the last two decades of the 1900s. Monkey Barrel is located across the street from Chaffee Park. They have a beer garden type feel on the outside as there are several picnic tables and yard games for any ages to play. Inside, Monkey Barrel is dedicated to the best two decades of 1900s with fun art, arcade games, and Nintendo 64 consoles set up in each booth (there were 4 booths) for your entertainment. The most entertaining part for us Gen Xer and Millenial was trying to figure out who was the celebrity from pictures taken 40 years ago. The menu is also dedicated to the great musicians of the 1990s. I selected the Pearl Jam, which a Monkey Barrel's take on a Dirty Shirley Temple. The place was happening during mid-day, so this place has definitely made a name for itself which is why it is on Westword's 100 Bars for this year. Monkey Barrel is also supposed to have great food - which could be concluded by the number of pick up orders that were constantly coming through.

Friday night hangout with a great live band and fun drinks. Lots of outdoor space on 2 patios so you can decide how close to the band to be or if you'd rather converse further away with some mild ambiance We didn't eat, but the burgers walking by looked great. Such a great 90s feel. Warm and friendly. And the pickle shots! Get a pickle shot. They do them right here.

Monkey Barrel is a neat bar located in the upper Highlands area with beer, cocktails, food, and games! The games consist of pinball, cornhole, and, get this, Nintendo 64! What a blast from the past! My group did not play any games but we definitely will need to play some next time we visit. The beer selection is decent. However, the cocktails leave quite a bit to be desired... I ordered the Blind Melon (Watermelon Margarita, Espolon Silver Tequila), Pearl Jam (Pearl Cherry Vodka, Club Soda, Maraschino Cherry, Lime), and a tequila pineapple. All of them tasted off and not in a good way. The Pearl Jam in particular was unpleasant. Next time, we will stick with beer and games!

Being a child of the 90's, how did I not know this place existed? A couple of girlfriends and I went to watch a friend's 90's cover band, BSides, last night. It was such a cool little venue with 90's memorabilia adorning the walls, N64 games, and a spacious patio with lawn games and enough seating for larger parties. The great thing about the patio is that the buildings block the sun in the afternoon so you're not being scorched while you're trying to enjoy happy hour. You order drinks from the bar and then find your seat. I got an Aperol Spritz and a pickle shot. Both tasted like a Friday and exactly what I needed after a long week. The service was quick and efficient. The band went on at 7pm and rocked some deeper cut nostalgic 90's songs until 10pm. They also have events like open mic night and showcase other 90's inspired genres. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more shows at The Monkey Barrel.

Not bad, but it didn't knock my socks off like other little Italian deli's around town can and do. The big flop was the service. I was unsure where to wait to order my sandwich so I waited by the case. While there were numerous employees working behind the counter, and zero other customers in the store, nobody greeted me for an awkwardly long amount of time. Maybe 5 actual minutes passed with me standing there and multiple employees working and even looking at me and never saying anything. Finally someone asked if I needed help. Yes, I want to order a sandwich. I put in my order, and it took about 10 minutes to make the sandwich. Understandable as the meat was sliced to order, which was great. In that time, another person came into the store, grabbed a few items, and stood at the register for that same full ten minutes I waited for my sandwich. Numerous employees working around, one even said hi to her, and nobody asked to help her. I was then asked a second time if I needed help and said I was waiting for my food. The other customer, still ignored. It was awkward for both of us. Finally, when my sandwich was done, they rang me out before she was rung out, and a second employee came to ring her out, and employee who walked past her numerous times while we stood there. Just a very strange customer service experience. They have a lot of room to improve in this area. On the plus side, during my long wait I was able to get photos of the grocery area and their cases and fridges. Lots of selection on the grocery side.

I have to add that we asked to speak to the owner, Ken. We were told he is not really a talker. To our surprise, Ken came over and was terrific! He told us the story of his dad starting at 4 am every day to begin the prep for the Taylor ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches for all the Jersey trades workers and other patrons. This is a strong part of the NJ culture. Ken told us the story of how he got connected to gnomes (ask him to see the tats). Ken shared his favorite Jersey food and how he got to Colorado. We drove 40 minutes to get there, and we all want to return soon. Thanks, Ken and your talented staff!

They simply Do Not care about general food safety getting a hot meal here is rather risky I will explain why. My friend was a cook here for a short while and quit on them once he realized they care nothing about serving food that is safe to eat, he saw them do sooo many things that would easily make the food contaminated and unsafe to eat and somehow that was there process of doing things. Here are a couple examples of menu items one should try to steer clear of Chicken parm sandwich- they cook off a large batch of the chicken cutlets and let them sit at room temp for a hour or two until someone orders one they refries them for a minute or so, your supposed to keep food hot once it is cooked especially chicken to leave cooked chicken at room temp for so long is extremely risky to the public's health. Meatball sandwich- they leave there meatballs on the hot line all day then they save all of the hot food items from the day and reuse them the next day without properly cooling any of the food and the cooks will leave these item sit out at room temp for about 45 mins before even putting them into the cooler. Many issues with this practice first of all hot food should be discarded after 5 hours according to the health department because after 5 hours it will start growing bacteria, to leave it on a hot line all day then save them for the next day and not even cool them down properly is Crazy risky to people's health and they do not just do this with the meatballs they do it for many of there hot dishes they are used for days on in, not properly cooled and not properly tracked for how many times it has been reheated and such me they keep them in the same pans it's flat out gross. Other issues my friend encountered there was never seeing anyone at all wash there hands at any point in time, a ancient dishwashing machine that didn't clean anything at all it didn't even get hot so half of there dishes are greasy and have food residue on them, in his short time there he saw people fired for no reason what's so ever from what he was told the owner fires people left and right and doesn't even give reasons as to why, that's why they have ads up on indeed looking for employees 24/7.
