We use to come for comedy nights but no more. We are regulars who use to come out every Thursday. We are sick of the performers creepIng on us, the weed smoke that makes it's way inside from people continue to puff outside on the patio (how is this legal with a liquor license?) jokes that are derogatory and not even funny. You can't even order a water from the bar without getting attitude from the wait staff. We've witnessed fights, drug use, and predictor like behavior at the Thursday night comedy show. We don't recommend attending, especially if you are a woman. We're sad about Monkey Barrels decline the past year and the comedy show has made it worse... we love comedy, but this isn't it. the burgers are 10x more greasy than McDonald's, you get skimped when ordering wings, and the staff and host aren't that nice... read more

I was fairly wary to stop in since they were only ranked 3 stars and I am honestly not sure why! We have sat outside each time and there is always a ton of open seating (perfect for all of our friends and ALL of our dogs). We also have so many drinks options to choose from. I went in thinking it would only be beer, but they had ciders, seltzer and hard alcohol too. What a dope start to this Sunday morning. "Biggie Smalls" banged out the speakers as I chow down on some breakfast and knocked back a few beers and cocktails. Went to their brunch today and the DJ was killing it...all of BIG hits without them being edited...it took me back. Staff was friendly, food was delicious (real corn beef, w/hashbrown). Went to Monkey Barrel for the first time last night. The Avalanche were in the playoffs and it's near my house. It was so poorly run that I fail to see why anyone goes there. One bartender during an Avalanche playoff game!??? No wait staff and a constant line to get beer or food. I don't mean a few people waiting 5 minutes to get a beer. I m talking a line out the door. The burgers were good I will say that. My fries were burnt but at that point I didn't feel like waiting in line 15 or twenty minutes to get none burnt ones. We left after the 1st period of the game. We attended Monkey Barrel's "Doggy Biscuits: A Brunch & Tribute to Snoop Dogg" event today, which sounded like so much fun. We paid $80 for a reserved table, which included brunch and mimosas for 4. The DJ did a good job playing Snoop hits, and we did have fun with our friends. However, we waited about 30 minutes for our breakfast after we ordered and then it was served on plastic plates with plastic silverware. For $80, real plates would be nice. All four of us ordered the chicken & waffles. The chicken was tasty, but the waffles were cold and not very good. Also...no maple syrup! Travesty. Otherwise, the servers were really friendly and the space is pretty cool. A few adjustments would make this a really great time. Having a few more staff members on hand, real plates and silverware, and bottomless mimosas, would justify the cost of future similar events. I would like to try coming out for a trivia night if they could dial in a few things. read more

The overall rating (currently 3 of 5 stars) is apparently because of some neighborhood association disagreement over Monkey Bar's incorporation of live music. The negative reviews I see (which tout bad service, limited menu, high prices) are objectively false and I am guessing are a coordinated effort to undermine the place. How shitty. Total shame as I was really surprised with and quite enjoyed the live music. I mean I am drinking some great beers, eating an awesome sandwich, playing Mario Kart with my family while this dude masterfully serenades us. For what more could you ask in a neighborhood bar? First off, I'm shocked at the terrible reviews here. Granted, I've only been here twice but I can't imagine giving this place less than 3 stars--and I came here on their sold out "The Office" trivia night. Sure, the themed trivia nights are hectic but it's also a packed house so it's expected to be a little chaotic. The staff I spoke with on trivia night were polite, understanding and accommodating when we tried to be seated at an actual table. Granted, I had a friend sit at the bar and wait a few hours before trivia started, but still they honored that she was first on the waitlist so we got a table. I get that people are frustrated and want to participate in fun trivia nights, however you have to realize this isn't a very large space and they have hundreds (maybe even a thousand) people who are interested. Just keep that in mind for their themed trivia nights. I'd still recommend going because its just a fun atmosphere. You can tell the die hard fans of whatever the theme is really enjoy it. Now, I was leaning towards 4-stars for Monkey Barrel but I'll stick with 3 stars for now. The second time I came was a Sunday night where it was pretty empty at the bar. I just accompanied some friends and played their N64 games which was fun. I would've liked some food (they advertised a great special on a burger) but found out that night that their cook walked out on them and no one could make any food so it was only bar service. I feel like that's more of a management issue and I'm sure it's fixed by the time of this review however it makes me think twice about coming here for anything other than beers and N64 games. But honestly, that's not a bad thing either, I mean beer and games go hand in hand pretty well. Monkey Barrel is really a no-frills kind of bar. It seems like regulars and locals come and their main attraction is their theme trivia nights and N64 games. This is the kind of place you come to have a low-key, chill night. Bought a $25 table for 5 for SATC trivia and arrived early so we could get dinner and drinks before Trivia started. (I see that at other events the reservation fee was refunded to the bill but we were not given this). There was no table service for drinks at all. We were told we had to get drinks out at the bar. The wait time for drinks at the bar was long, of course, because everyone was out there at the same time trying to get a drink during quick breaks in the event. There was just one server for the dining room for food service. Four of us got incorrect food orders and the food was ice cold and...not good . I get that a burger is $5.00 but would gladly pay more for something more appetizing. One of us ordered a "cheese steak sandwich" but actually received what looked like a French dip, which wasn't even on the menu! It was freezing out and they kept propping open the door near the DJ. It was soooooo cold in there!! During trivia the music was so loud that we could barely converse at our table to come up with our answers. Headache inducing loud since we had to shout to hear each other. When we tried to leave we had to finally go out to the bar to find our food server to get a bill and wait half an hour for it. I get that there were like 45 people in the event, but seriously, when you know it is a sold out event you need to bring in extra help! Lesson learned: if you must attend an event here, eat before you go and wear lots of layers in the winter! At least the DJ/ trivia leader guy was cool! read more

I've lived in the surrounding neighborhood for 4 years now but have never stopped in. I finally came here this weekend for a casual beer at 3PM on a Sat and I couldn't have loved my experience more. The inside seems pretty small but there's SO much outdoor patio seating. Since it's still obscenely nice out, even in December (climate change ), we had a great time enjoying our beers and food outdoors. The service was friendly and quick, and the food was shockingly good. We got the cheeseburger & fries and boneless chicken wings and both were great. read more

They have four booths that have complimentary Xbox to play and two pin ball machines. Creativity **** Fun creative food names, all music related. Would be fun if they made some creative drinks too. Drinks *** I didn't see a drink menu, just a beer menu, but they do have a full bar. They had decent beer selections but no prices listed. I was about to order a stout but decided to ask how much. Good thing I did as it was $9 for abv of 8%. I'm sure it might be tasty but it would be helpful to see price range when ordering. Food * Our sandwiches left so much to be desired. The bread on the Chicken Philly was super super dry, the peppers and onions were not seasoned, the chicken wasn't dispersed and was cut in too large of chunks. My friends and I stopped by for drinks and ended up leaving early tonight because of a couple things. 1. There was no mask enforcement with the people crowding the bar, walking around and packing into the comedy show space. The cook didn't even wear his mask. The comedy people weren't wearing masks wile they were performing and one of them spit when they were telling a joke and it almost landed on one of us! We didn't feel entirely comfortable with covid, especially with them performing in front of our table, so we left sooner than expected. 2. the comedy show wasn't all that funny. a few tasteless jokes aimed towards women and Jewish people. Seemed a little insensitive. we enjoy monkey barrel but tonight really made us rethink coming, at least for now. read more

The Monkey barrel is such a great neighborhood bar with a fun, laidback atmosphere. They have a large outdoor seating area with picnic tables and outdoor TVs, inside there's plenty of seating, great music and video games. They host lots of fun events such as crawfish boils, watch parties for sporting events, trivia, standup comedy, etc. Last time I went was for Rockies opening day party and it was a blast. They had a party truck there, raffles, free cupcakes and popcorn. I got lucky at the raffle and won 2 90 minute massages that I am really looking forward to using! The raffle was for a great cause because all proceeds went back to the community through Excalibur outreach. I really like how The Monkey Barrel is very much into giving back and taking care of their community. All of the events are so much fun and very well organized. The drinks stay flowing, cheeseburgers and fries are delicious, fun activities, great vibes, friendly, attentive and super cute bartenders and staff. Scottie Q. Is one of the best bartenders around and will make sure you are very well taken care of! If you're in the neighborhood definitely stop by for some drinks and some fun. Not sure where all the negativity is coming from. Great beers, drinks just strong enough (yes I had both, no judging). Great music (jukebox and then live later). Some crazy video game music was the live act. So good, y'all! Oh, and the food is great! Didn't take forever like a few people said here. Came to Monkey Barrel for friends trivia and this was the first time we had been here. Definitely loved the music themed drink menu including a drink dedicated to my favorite ODB. Scott the bartender was super friendly and knew what he was doing making the most delicious drinks. The bar has a great vibe and atmosphere. The other bartender Alicia was also awesome and super friendly. The menu is very small but the food was so good! Double cheeseburger and fries came out perfect and the ranch was delicious. Both cooks knew what they were doing through the rush and still made orders quickly. The bar is very clean as well as the restrooms. I can't wait to go back for another trivia night.
