Popcorn chicken is a must order. There is only one waiter and she definitely looks busy but friendly. Parking in on the back but street parking is available. Definitely will be back to try more of the menu items
Love coming to Monja Taiker for some authentic Taiwanese dishes! I usually get the pork rice, but this time I wanted to try the tomato sauce dry beef noodles and they were really good! The sauce was flavorful and not too salty. They have a huge menu with a variety of rice and noodle dishes, as well as drinks and dessert (shaved ice). Service was fast and friendly!
Never have the chance to dine in. The food is great and I am glad they used sweet potatoes starch as their coating instead of anything else out there. There's not that many Taiwanese food out there in SGV and I appreciate the food is so far as authentic as it goes. There's clerk is always nice whenever I called and I can't say much about the ambiance cuz Togo is my go to as for now.
Simple, but delicious flavors at affordable prices! Ordered the braised pork noodle, which apparently came with a side of red grain pork?! Turned out it was a mistake, and the waitress comped it for me-- hey, extra free food isn't bad at all! Noodles were solid with QQ texture and fragrant with cilantro and braised pork. Red grain pork was yummy as well, similar to char siu (sweet and savory) with fried edges. The pig's ear was tasty enough, and I had plenty to take home as leftovers. Overall, solid Taiwanese cuisine at Monja Taiker. I approve!!
Pretty tasty Taiwanese food. Lots of variety. Lunch special is a good deal with meat, rice/noodle, a small side dish, and an iced tea. It looks like they did some remodeling. After you order, it's about a 25 minute wait for the food. So I would suggest ordering ahead especially if it's a to-go order. The staff was very friendly. Parking is in the back. Very limited street parking is available.
I ordered togo on the website on a saturday afternoon. They called to double check the order. Then order was ready roughly 10 minutes after. I ordered single portions of the red grain pork and their bean curd vegetable. The red grain pork we wanted extra crispy and it was tasty. They opened the sides so it's not soggy, but I recommend opening the whole box when you get the bag. The a la carte meat was $10 and it definitely has more portion compared to their bento that comes with rice and vegetable by default. Somehow disappointed in the vegetable for being $9 and that little.

I have surprisingly never gone to the closer one in Rowland Heights, but we were craving an early night snack (place closes at 9 PM) and we decided to stop by Monja Taiker. There were a couple tables there already and seemingly one gentleman working the front area, bussing tables, taking orders etc. When he took our order he kept quickly asking my friend for clarification, much to her confusion, but it's like...? There's no combination order for the yam fries and popcorn chicken? There's just the 2 items separately on the menu? Oh well, sometimes it's easier just to point to the order name on their tiny font menu I suppose. We also asked for water, which came in small paper cups. All the water, condiments, utensils are all up at the counter area. So you have to go up and request it or take it back to your table (the condiments, not the water pitcher). We ordered the popcorn chicken and yam fries both at different spice levels, mild and medium. Neither had any spicy taste to them at all. There's no delineation between them. Easier to just grab a bottle of cumin and just dump it all over yourself afterwards. It took some time for our order to come out. Probably since they are short staffed. The popcorn chicken portion size was good for $10. Had a couple strands of fried basil. Chicken was deliciously moist, breading wasn't too thick. The yam fries were good, BUT the portion size is what you can measure coming out of a small McDonald's fries sized bag. Not worth $9 in the slightest. Like they were good and didn't taste like it was refried from a frozen bag, but definitely not worth how much it cost. Maybe it's this location that's like that? I'm not sure. If we need an evening snack place, we're gonna try to find a different spot.
I visited this Taiwanese casual eats spot and my experience here was pretty good. I came for the weekday lunch special and I liked the variety they offered with each combo. I got the Combo C Lunch Special with came with a protein, carb, some sides and a drink. For the protein I got the popcorn chicken and it was good and standard. The meat wasn't dry which I liked and it would have been perfect if it was crispier and more flavorful. For the carb I got the rice which came with a ground meat topping which was nice. The rice was also fluffy. I also liked the side dishes of the cabbage, bean curd, etc. The veggies were cooked well and crisp. Finally, I got the black tea for my drink and it was standard. Not too sweet nor strong in taste. The service was good and I liked the ambiance which was reminiscent of Taiwanese night markets. Overall, a solid choice for a lunch spot in the Arcadia area.
We joined some friends for dinner here. We got there around 7 and it was pretty empty. Our friends recommended anything with the red grain pork. So I got the congee with the pork, hubby got the dry noodle, one friend got the braise beef noodle soup and his wife got a plate with the beef. We also ordered popcorn chicken for the table. The popcorn chicken comes with a choice of not spicy, mild, medium, or hot. We got the spicy seasoning on the side and it's got a good kick Our waitress was nice, very quiet and timid but helpful. The restaurant itself is nice, the bathroom is kinda weird and dingy but nothing to complain about. Popcorn chicken was my favorite. The dry noodle was really good too. The congee was a bit bland needed some salt. I just added the spice seasoning and it pumped it up a bit.
I returned this week at a friend's request. Upon entering and looking at the menu, I was so happy he had suggested this place. I have forgotten about Monja Taiker. They have a lunch special menu which offered 5 different options for rice/noodle dishes each with a drink (black or green iced tea) for all under $17 each. What a steal! I was wavering between the fried pork chop rice and the fried chicken steak rice. The waiter suggested the chicken steak rice. I am so glad I listened to him. Oh man! The fried chicken steak was crispy on the outside and the meat was juicy inside. The batter had so much umami that every bite was bursting with flavor. You can choose the level of spiciness for the meat. I typically go with mild. The rice plate also comes with veggies and minced pork and yellow pickled daikon. The yellow pickled daikon gives the savory dish a sweet and acidic dimension to balance out all the flavors. There were at least 4 tables and only one server. I felt so bad for our server who was overwhelmed but remained calm and polite. He definitely earned and deserved the 20% tip. I will definitely be eating here more often now that they are back in my food memory bank!
I've been eyeing Monja Taiker whenever I pass the restaurant on Huntington, so I planned a friend date here since we both haven't tried it! I saw they specialize in Taiwanese food and had shaved ice, so I was instantly sold! We sat down immediately, our server was friendly, and the food is great at an affordable price point. We shared the Popcorn Chicken Rice Dish 鹽酥雞飯, Taiwanese Style Dry Noodle 傻瓜干麵, Brown Sugar Ice 黑糖清冰, and Taiwanese Meatball 彰化肉圆. My favorite was the Taiwanese Style Dry Noodle 傻瓜干麵 - the noodles were chewy and the texture was perfect! I was also so happy to see they even had Taiwanese Meatball 彰化肉圆, and one of my favorite dishes to eat, with a chewy outer layer, filled with veggies and meat inside. My friend has never had this dish before, so I was happy she got to try it for the first time! The only thing was that the Brown Sugar Ice 黑糖清冰 wasn't what we expected. The ice was hard and had chunks of hard ice, which isn't the texture we expected for shaved ice. I imagined something softer, so it must be their ice machine. The toppings and brown sugar flavor in their 刨冰 were great, just the texture of the shaved ice threw me off a little bit. Overall, a great place to relax and enjoy authentic Taiwanese dishes in Arcadia. I'll be coming back here to enjoy it!
Came to Monja Taiker with a friend to try their red grain pork. They offer affordable lunch combos that include a choice of rice or noodles plus a side dish. The main dish tasted pretty authentic, and I really liked the sweet and savory flavor of the pork. However, the side dish felt a bit underwhelming and not as well prepared as the rest of the meal. Overall a solid option for red grain pork.

I ordered red grain pork and popcorn chicken with dry noodle. It was delicious. I wasn't even in the mood for this food (I let my gf decide) and turned out, I ended up liking it a lot. I'll definitely be back here again to order what I ordered again and also try other dishes! read more

Great Taiwanese food spot! Parking is free and in the back. Service is quick and efficient. Loved their popcorn chicken- which was flavorful, crispy, with perfect basil topping. Their char siu was also very flavorful and tender, with edges crispy- a perfect bite. I also got their Tomato Beef Soup which was listed as spicy but pretty mild. This place is so yummy! Their food is great. Highly recommend their lunch combos that are available from 11-4pm (even on weekends). I always order Combo D with red grain pork, dry noodles, and side bean curd with green tea (75% sweet). The pork and noodles are super flavorful and addicting. You get a good amount of food for the price that you pay. There are a decent amount of seats in the small restaurant and service is pretty good. Street parking only but shouldn't be too hard to find parking. They also have other locations in Rosemead and City of Industry. read more
This is the first time I'm trying out the Arcadia location! The red grain pork is delicious just like the original MPK location. The Arcadia location is a bit smaller, but looks clean and well-run. The service was quick and friendly. The only thing I didn't like was the paper plate/bowls. It dried out the rice and soaked up the sauce. read more
This was such a good choice for lunch today! We ordered the lunch special c and d. Both meals were so yummy. Noodles with the red sliced pork delicious! Also comes with a side and a drink! The service was great. The young lady was so nice and even opened the door for the customers ! Interior was a bit warm, but overall I liked how clean it was inside and soft music playing. The restaurant has street parking and there's a parking lot behind the store. They have indoor seating. I tried the red grain pork combo which comes with a drink (I chose green tea) and a bean curd salad. Also tried meatball noodle soup and shaved ice. Everything was delicious. Generous portion of shaved ice. We were not expecting that size. Quality of tea was good. You can really taate the rea and not overmasked by sugar. Staff was friendly. read more

I tried their lunch combo recently. Good portion and also comes with green or red tea. Not salty at all and tastes home made to me. I like that they put drumsticks sauce on the side. I didn't need to use any of the sauce though. Also not oily. Food came out quickly. Service is also friendly and attentive. Parking in the back. Or try find street parking. read more
4.2 stars My mom and I came in to try their food since we were introduced to them during the Lunar festival held nearby. This restaurant is quite small and, interestingly enough, they serve their food in takeout trays and paper bowls even though we dined in. These were what we got: Steam pork combo: the steamed pork didn't look appealing, but it was actually very savory and filling. The plate came with napa cabbage, pickled veggie, a ground meat sauce, and green tea. The tea was refreshing and everything tasted really good! Popcorn chicken combo: if you're a fan of popcorn chicken, this is the place to get it. It was crispy, fresh, and the chicken was quite lean! It came with rice, ground meat sauce, napa cabbage, and side of pickled veggie. I would definitely get this again! Service was nice and the interior looked really cute. Price-wise, I think it's pretty standard for today's economy... Free parking is available behind the building. No complaints here. read more
Parking: There are a couple spots out front for street parking and a parking lot around the back. I have never had difficulty getting parking. Interior: The restaurant is pretty small but I rarely see it busy. They do have a lot of tables packed in so it would few crowded if it was actually full. Service: I usually order to-go for a quick meal. It is rarely busy and they get the food ready pretty quickly. I did notice that they also serve people that dine-in with disposable boxes and utensils. Food: The food is mediocre. The most popular dish is probably the red grain pork. I have also tried the popcorn chicken, pork chop, chicken roll (extremely small portion), and stewed chicken leg. Nothing really stands out about it. The rice combos come with a side of ground pork sauce and some cabbage (usually very bitter). I recently ordered the Taiwanese glutinous rice sausage and that was a complete rip off. It came with 5 measly slices of the sausage for about $10. I would not recommend ordering any of the appetizer dishes. read more
This is Monja's newest SGV location serving yummy Taiwanese dishes in the heart of Arcadia. We had a bit of a mixed experience when we visited for lunch during their opening week - mostly great with a few issues that will likely be sorted out as they settle in. Their red grain pork and dry noodles are fantastic, service excellent, prices very decent, and the restaurant has great vibes! We tried their Combo D and a bowl of their wonton noodle soup - their combos are a great deal and definitely the way to go here. For the Combo D, we chose the Monja red grain pork and our kind server recommended the dry noodles as our side choice and it ended up being our fave item of the meal - fantastic recommendation! The red grain pork slices were soft on the inside with a marvelous slightly sweet red crust on the outside - absolutely loved it! Their dry noodles have a lovely texture and come topped with a flavorful savory ground pork - delicious! The combos also come with some fermented veggies which was almost all cabbage and also very nice - I loved all the combo items and their combos are a great price. Opening week they gave out free milk teas with all the meals so we tried their regular milk tea and a strawberry milk tea with boba at 25% sugar - both drinks were perfect - great flavors and they have some really nice boba. 25% sweet was still very sweet so I'll probably get no sugar in the strawberry milk tea next time. I had to take off a star for 2 reasons. One is that they're serving all their food in to-go containers which really took away from our dine-in experience - especially when it came to the wonton noodle soup - which brings me to my second reason. The soup came out boiling hot in a very flimsy plastic to-go container - we were worried the plastic was going to melt! The wontons were actually decent but the broth had a very strange flavor to it - almost chemical?? Was it the super heated plastic? A strange spice? Not sure but my husband refused to eat it - I tried but couldn't get past the weird taste. Definitely wouldn't order this again. And I hope that they'll switch to actual dishes for their dine in customers once they settle in :/ Our server was fantastic - very patient, attentive, and friendly - and the restaurant is in a great location overlooking downtown Arcadia. The vibe is cozy and decor is fun - and their prices are very reasonable for the area. Parking is all street parking and we had no issues finding a spot for our late lunch. We'll definitely be back for more combos, red grain pork and dry noodles!! Welcome to the neighborhood! :D read more

I've been driving by for months waiting for this location to open. We've always gone to the Rosemead location, and glad finally there's one closer to home for us. We had some miscommunication with our order since we do not speak Mandarin, but the waiter was apologetic and corrected our order. I ordered the B1 Monja Red Grain Pork Noodle Soup, hubby was hungry after a long flight and he ordered A4 Preserved Veggies with dried pork rice, a side of E15 steamed cabbage pak choy, and not on menu a side of Monja Red Grain Pork. Most of our food came out less than 5 minutes after we ordered. I think the workers were confused how 2 pp can eat so much food. So when we asked about our extra side order of red grain pork, the worker pointed to mine which came with the noodles. We always order a side of red grain pork no issue at the Rosemead location, however the worker informed us this location is a different owner/boss. Have to admit the pork that came with my noodles was a bit dry and chewy. Whereas the new one we added was much more tender and crispy since it was freshly made. I was also surprised how everything was served in paper bowls and plates. Hopefully later when they are fully staffed they can use real serving dishes. Overall, I am still happy with a Monja location so close to us and we will be back again. read more

This place is not good. The popcorn chicken was bland, but at least it was crunchy. The rice was rock hard ( not fully cooked). We told the server and he brought out another bowl for us. The top was still a little hard but better than the first time. As I was half way into the bowl of rice, the bottom was rock hard. It's definitely not a good representation of Taiwanese food. read more

Friendly staff. Speaks English well. The lady speaks very softly and fast (which I think is typical of 20s these days) popcorn chicken can be better if added more spices. Their signature Monja Red pork is quite good. I think it's roasted pork fried in thin coating. Taiwanese sausage quite good too. We tried their combo and chose dry noodles. Really like this simple noodles (bean sprouts ground pork in bean sauce and yellow noodles) They use paper plates and bowls. Sustainable conscious I guess. Would recommend trying this place out, very reasonable price for the location and the amount. read more

This is my favorite hole in the wall Taiwanese restaurant! The red grain pork is super good (shown in the picture). I also love the wonton soup. Vibes are great it's never super busy and feels homey! Would 100% recommend. Not shown but a need to order is the popcorn chicken! read more
We decided to try this place for a quick lunch today. I ordered the popcorn chicken with the dry minced meat noodle. My wife ordered the minced meat rice with vegetables. Service was great, the food came out quick. This was most likely because there wasn't a lot of people on a Tuesday afternoon. It was a little pricey for the quality of slightly over-salted food. Nothing really stood out about it, but then again, it wasn't bad food. I'm just not sure if we will be back since there are less expensive places in the SGV that service similar items. read more

Gotta Love Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken with Rice Combo. Didn't realize this was a 'Hot New Business,' in the 'City of Arcadia,' CA. I Yelped my way here for dinner and came across this super convenient restaurant in the heart of Downtown Arcadia, CA. I walked in and ordered take out. Service: 5/5~fast and efficient. Waiter was friendly and helpful. He suggested ordering a Combo for dinner pricing. Ambiance: 5/5 very Taiwanese indeed. They had back wall paintings all over as well as Chinese lanterns throughout the restaurant ceiling top. Food: Super yummmm. 5/5. Steamed rice was cooked just perfectly fine. They gave a couple of sides with minced pork, so serving size was very generous. My combo C also came with Taiwanese black tea. Haven't had that in a really long time. Parking: free and easy on the street. I only had to walk a tad and arrived safe and sound. 10/10. Location was very convenient here. I will be back again. read more

Spoiled sausages!!! Rude customer service, all tables are dirty 1: sausage tasted sour and spoiled, color is black. The sausage from the reviews are all red. But today it is black. 2. All tables are full with dirty plates, while there were only two groups there. 3. Store manager was rude and would not listen, he actually argued loudly with me inside the store in front of other customers. I don't know where is the prior store manager, but shoppers be aware of this new management . It's not the same as before. read more
Delicious and cheap and service was insanely efficient! We stopped by here hoping for a quick dinner before heading to the movie theater, and we were able to dine in and enjoy our food all within 30 minutes, and we made it perfectly in time for our movie! I ordered their most popular item, the red grain pork- which was very flavorful! As part of one of their combo deals, it also came with dry noodles, a small bean curd with veggie dish, and my choice of green or black tea. My partner got the popcorn chicken. We were both very full after sharing everything, and the bill was under $30! Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a casual and quick lunch or dinner! read more

This was my first time eating at Monja Taiker, and the food was incredibly fresh and delicious. The servers were also very friendly and welcoming. I loved the decorations, and the overall vibe was so cozy. I'll definitely be coming back! read more
recently tried out the new Taiwanese spot, and it didn't disappoint. We opted for the combo c with fried pork chop and dry noodles, a steal at $14.25 including sides and green tea. The portion sizes were generous and perfect for a weekday lunch. I also tried the porridge with monja red grain pork which was tasty, although it could've used a bit more pepper. The service was prompt, and they quickly brought me some when I asked. Overall, the food and service felt really professional for a new joint, with flavors that transported me back to Taiwan. The only downside was the lack of ventilation; the fried food smell lingered after we finished eating. Hopefully, they'll work on that. Despite that, I'd definitely go back and recommend it to others. Let's support Taiwanese cuisine. read more

Monja Taiker has definitely gone downhill since their hay days years ago. My daughter is a big fan of their fried 'tempura' and my son a fan of their red pork. Their lunch combo and afternoon tea combos used to be a great deal for quantity as well as quality. Attached is the afternoon tea combos and their prices. Not sure if that amount of meat is worth the prices alone, but quality appears to have at least remained the same for the 4 items we ordered: fried tempura, popcorn chicken, red pork and Taiwanese sausage. What is also not helping is their barebone presentation with disposable plate and utensils. All of this makes things look cheap and not worth paying all the money. Either way, portions are way too small objectively and afternoon tea deals are not really worth it any more. The lunch combo might be ok for the tea drink and the bowl of noodle, but definitely not good for afternoon tea snacking. read more

We were looking for authentic Taiwanese food and stumbled upon this place. We didn't realize the generous portion and ordered way too much food, but we enjoyed every bit of it. The staff is super friendly and nice to the kids. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely visit again next time we are in town. Most memorable: the braised pork rice, beef noodle soup, dry beef noodle, and sausage with rice. read more
I really wanted to like this place, but I have to honest that I was disappointed with the quality of some of the entrees I ordered on my recent visit here. The red grain pork rice is always on the spot, but I felt that the other dishes were way too greasy for my taste. I can even see the oil build-up when the food cools down. This includes the beef noodle soup as well. Prices, however, are decent. Hopefully in the next few months they can improve their food quality but in the meantime I'd rather eat at other Taiwanese restaurants. read more
