I decided to walk in and check the place out! I was amazed at my vegetable selection! All fresh and waiting for me to pick and choose! There was cabbage and corn and onions and green onions and cilantro and zucchini and peppers and broccoli and mushrooms and water chestnuts and fresh jalapeños and pineapple and carrots and bean sprouts! So delicious! I took a bit of everything! You can also choose your protein or choice: tofu, chicken or beef. They also have miso soup! I have been dying for something full of nutrients and this place hit the spot! If you are like me and crave some healthy stuff every so often stop by and check out their food! Probably one of the bette Mongolian places around here. Simple choices: regular or large and combo or not. You choose the meats and veggies and they put on the sauces and noodles at the end for you. Having never read the reviews before coming here, I came in with basically a blank slate with a curiosity to try out this place. Where to start? The interior is a bit gloomy and dark. There is a high definition television and the place is geared towards having you sit down and eat. For a Mongolian BBQ place, the selection was somewhat limited to chicken, pork, and beef. Vegetable selection is limited to onions, cabbage, green onions, carrots, and mushrooms. For vegetarians, there is tofu as well. You can get other stuff like Bibimbap and Ramen, although I did not try either on my visit. Because I didn't know you should stack as much as you can, I ordered the standard regular entree. The person manning the grill was nice enough to recommend a specific combination of sauces and spices to try out. What came out looked delicious, if a bit small. From the way the cook worked, you can tell he was a bit passionate about what he did. I don't like the pricing ($7+ for the smallest order you can get), but the food definitely is good. I consider it better than most mall establishments but as a whole, this place is one of those places where you can consider, but if there is a better alternative, then you should go for it. read more

I absolutely love this place! I love that they have a different kind of noodle and I actually prefer it! I crave this place when I don't have it! I love that they always serve the food in like a to go box so that you can eat it there or take it to go without having to ask! You fill your bowl with everything but the noodles, they do that for you so you don't have to worry about keeping that extra space! They are always nice and they are not stingy on there portions sizes and will throw in some more noodles or meat here and there for you if you don't get a lot of veggies. They also do the sauces for you according to what you want. You do have to pay for a refill of the soda but I usually do not get drinks there anyways so it doesn't bother me. To be honest, the restaurant was empty when I arrived. One couple there. Despite my hesitation at seeing that, I went in anyway and was met by the friendliest host I've had in a long time. He encouraged me to load up my bowl, offered helpful suggestions on sauces, tossed in extra food for free, then grilled it all up in front of me in the Mongolian BBQ style. And it was good! Not Earth shattering by any means, but very satisfying and for $9 it was a ton of food. (totally confused and looking for a large bowl on the menu but fail to find one) Carolyn C: Start putting meat into the bowl. Me: Where? Ohhhh! So there is basically a buffet style line of meats and vegetables you try to fit into the bowl? Carolyn C: Yes baby. So the journey begins... I attempt to stuff as much beef inside my bowl as I possibly could. Son of a..... Damn all the beef is frozen and it sure is taking a lot of bowl space! I attempt to push down the meat to no avail. By the way, a large bowl is not even that large! It looks like the size of a rice bowl you can get at the Flame BroiIer. I feel like I am getting jipped here because I paid close to $10.00 and this is all I can get? Of course I wanted to stack as much meat I could on top of the bowl, but the meat started falling out of the bowl before I could even attempt to cover my bowl full of vegetables. What a joke. Anyone that gave 2 or more stars for this place is either a fake or a non-Asian person. First off the bowl was small for a so-called "LARGE" serving, the noodles were dried an hard to go down. People who say that this place has good food has not truly had Mongolian BBQ. I came here with high expectations but was extremely disappointed. When I was getting my food, I can see the boss clearly looking over my shoulder to see how much meat I was getting. She had the audacity to say that I was squeezing the meat down when I wasn't. The vegetables also looked old and not fresh. The employees also looked as if they did not want to be there. They were even rude when I asked for a little more noodles and said " I'm not giving you more because you squeezed the meat down". What kind of sick joke is this? The food wasnt even good and my tray wasnt even half filled. Also, 50 cents for a refill? Wow. The only reason why this place is popular is because it's right next to school. Pretty freaking delicious, there was probably a month in the school year in which I would eat here two times a week. My stomach was happy...my wallet, not so much I like to get a little bit of chicken and beef, stock up on onions and mushrooms, saving a little room for bell peppers and a few other veggies I think the sauces are what really gives this dish the extra kick- I get all of them. Good experience here. Although to make it short, I wish there were more meat. I ordered the medium bowl, along with a Strawberry smoothie w/ boba (better than the first one I've had and this boba tasted really interesting -- super chewy -- I think I liked it more than usual). Bonus points for giving me a green straw, so that the drink actually looked like a strawberry -- except, dammit, they didn't give me a see-through container. So, with smoothie in hand, I filled the bowl entirely with meat (half beef / half chicken), but the pieces of meat are all rolled, so you really have to engineer how to stack them efficiently in the bowl. I didn't have time to do this at the place, but in retrospect, you should fill the bottom with a few veggies (like green onions, mushrooms, etc) and then place all the rolls with the bottoms facing the center of the bowl, making a fan of sorts with the veggies filling in the space below the meat on the outer ring. Then proceed to add another layer of meat, and then fill in the center with more veggies. To go even further, push the stems of the broccoli florets into the rolled meat. Although, without engineering the hell out of it at the time, my portion size was pretty good for the price, and the noodles were really yummy (super greasy -- like take-out). The place comes off as a little cheap, refills on the drinks cost $0.50, white rice is an extra $1.00 and they only gave me a tiny portion. Also, it was pretty clear to me that they didn't use a see-through container for the smoothie because it wasn't filled to the top and they wanted to make it look like a larger portion. Oh well. Either way, the place is cheap and I had a good meal. Yogurtland is right next door for dessert. read more

Like learning how to spin a pen between your fingers, (I still don't have that quite down yet), the fine art of creating a skyscraper of meat from the ground up requires a steady hand, absolute patience, utmost focus, and the concentration of ninety tigers. Here's some tips on how to re-create the Empire State Building out of bean sprouts and lamb: 1) Crush the meat between your tongs before placing it in a bowl. If it cracks and breaks? Who cares? It's all going into your stomach in the end. A) As an addendum to the above, utilize the sides of the freezer unit and your tongs to further crush and destroy the meat, so you can remove the fact they freeze it in rolls to try to jip you. 2) Extra noodles for a dollar usually means double the amount of noodles. Is it worth it? You can decide for yourself... Also, different chefs give varying amounts of noodles, so see if you can time which chef you get to cook your food. 3) When dealing with vegetables, avoid some of them. Mushrooms add absolutely no substance once cooked down, and they take up too much space. Bean sprouts are flat and so are green onions, and with enough weight on top, they don't add significant volume. Onion should go on top, because of the wedge-sickle shape, they can hang on the top easily. 4) Although a hard to master move, and risky, using another bowl to smash the meat in your bowl down is both effective and a decent strategy on getting your fill of BBQ. However, if the chefs notice this, they'll jip you on noodles. Hell, if your bowl is too high, they'll jip you on noodles. Now go forth, and create your own masterpiece of the wok. Or in this case, the flat-griddle they use to cook everything on. Oh yeah, the "Lemon" sauce they have, I got a seed once in my noodles... so avoid it. read more

Many of my friends have gone to UCR, so I often frequent Mongolian BBQ. The first time I went, I was able to crush the meat, now they won't let you, unless you do it discreetly. The ingredients are fresh, and there is a great mix of meat and veggies, like most other Mongolian BBQ places. This is a typical Mongolian BBQ place and I am always up for some good Mongolian BBQ. I do have to say that this is probably one of the better places to eat in Riverside considering the bleak choices of food there, not counting Asahi and Zorba. I've been here twice: once a while after the "Grand Opening" (and if I remember correctly, they had the "Grand Opening" sign up for a good few months... or more) and a second time this past weekend. My first experience was decent--it was my first time having Mongolian food, so it was kind of exciting for me. I think the manager was there, and he seemed like he wanted to make a good impression since he asked my friend and me if we liked the food we should recommend the place to our friends. It was all right though... My second experience pretty much ruined it for me though, I don't see myself coming back, ever. First of all, for the price I'm paying for a tiny bowl (I felt like I was playing Jenga trying to stack all the food into it!), I'd rather go next door to Life Cafe. I didn't get a good vibe from the staff either, they were not the friendliest of people (which I guess I don't mind as much), but as I was filling my bowl I felt like they were watching my every move and it made me a bit... uncomfortable I guess. It's like when you're taking an exam and a professor/TA/teacher walks by you and watches you--- I hate that! They were probably watching me to see if I would pat down my food to make more space, which is not allowed. I don't know. After filling my bowl, the cook mixed the sauce for me. I told him I didn't want it spicy, and he nodded and said okay. I saw him scoop a spoonful of what looked like something spicy, and reminded him a second time that I don't want it spicy, so he nodded, poured a little bit out of the spoon, and put it into the sauce mix. I didn't think anything of it until I actually tried my food. It was spicy. And the meat was extremely dry and difficult to chew. Yummy, yummy! I love Mongolian BBQ. I stack up my bowl meticulously with piles of veggies. The trick is to pick small pieces of meat bcus the large pieces take up air space. Also, I line up my bowl with broccoli to give the bowl an extra height for more veggies. I love how they put the sauces on twice while cooking my food to make it saucy and scrumptious, not like the ones in the food court in the mall that sometimes come out dry. That I know of this is the only mongolian bbq spot in Riverside. It's a little restaurant nestled in a strip mall by UCR. If you're not looking for it you wont find it. However, it's a great quick fix to those starving pains. You select all the veggies and meat you can place onto the bowl that they give you. Once you decide everything that you want you give it to the "guys" at the end of the row and they'll cook it up in a circular motion on some heated type stone/stove (sorry for not being culturally sensitive but I have no idea what that thing is called). Anywho, once it's nicely cooked you get your frozen meal back and it's ready to enjoy! They do have a sign that says, "NO PACKING!." What that basically means is don't get caught stuffing your hand and/or fingers in the bowl to squish things down so you can continue to pile up more frozen food in it before cooking. First off the bad stuff. In this day and age, can we please not charge extra money for refills? We know that soda game is cheap. Just let refills be unlimited and you will be good. Most people do not even refill more than once. Everything else about Mongolian BBQ is great. First off, there is no all you can eat option. I HATE trying to fit all the things I want in one bowl, I prefer making a couple trips with small amounts. The large bowl was rather small, and once cooked down was barely a serving. Next, they charge for soda refills all the while having the soda machine facing out to the diners, like you can refill at will. I didn't like their "sauces". The cook immediately took our food to sauce it, I had no control and my food wasn't as "tasty" as it could have been. I can see the value in the chef saucing if there is a long line of people waiting, but the place was empty so there was no rush. I did like that they carried the majority of the ingredients I like, like tofu and tomatoes. This place is run on the cheap. They are trying to save money on every step of the BBQ process from how much you drink to how much sauce you use. This is not how I want my Mongolian BBQ experience to be. Not the greatest but the plus side is that it's right next to UCR. Food: Mongolian BBQ is pretty simple and basic, it's hard to do wrong. What makes places stand out is the quality of the veggies and meat and the price, also the size of the bowl they give you. Prices are a little high to be honest but its like that at all MBBQ. You can choose from a small bowl or a large bowl and combo or just the noodles, combo comes with rice and miso soup (sidenote: you can add the veggies to your soup if you want). You can also stack your bowl tightly and high, they don't mind or say anything. After putting the bowl on the grill they ask what sauces you want and then add that and noddles. You get a pretty big portion and if you pack the bowl well enough then you can end up with leftovers. Service: Pretty good service but then again when I went it was empty minus for a person eating in. You pay first and they give you an empty bowl. The food area is kept really clean and everything is filled and it doesn't look like old veggies. Meats are frozen and you might end up getting small broken pieces if they don't refill it. They add as much sauce to your liking and the cooking takes a couple minutes. Location: In the same plaza as Life Cafe and Yogurtland next to the UV. Parking is very limited and can be a little sketchy at night. Area gets crowded in the morning and evening hours. read more
