I've been here a handful of times already and I finally got the willingness to leave an honest review. I'm gonna have to say that "Yay! I'm a fan" and the quartet of stars is well-deserved. Reason being, the food here is always consistent and you can retrofit the meal to almost the exact taste you are looking for everytime - if you know what you want. It's basic, you pick what you want they throw some sauce on it, turn it in circles on top of a hot big round griddle and VOILA! NOTICE TO THE ILL-INFORMED AND THE MIS-INFORMED: If you're timid about trying Mongolian BBQ because you're like "WTF is Mongolian BBQ! I don't even know where Mongolia is nor anyone who is Mongolian!" This is not Mongolian, nor is it much like the BBQ we so highly acclaim in the States. You will not come into this joint and find Mongolian stuff hanging on the walls or see grills installed on the damn tables. It is more representative of Taiwanese style stir fried noodles, meat and veggies. Heck, even I think it's Korean owned so all authenticity of this joint just flew right the heck out of the window. BUT, hands down this is definitely a good spot for a semi-quick lunch. Today was fast but I have seen long waits. Check it out, especially if you're a picky person with your food, cuz unless you're wee-todd-did, you might be able to fashion a meal together you'd absolutely appreciate. read more

Yes... Yes... Yes! This place is awesome! I'm extremely picky when it comes to Asian food, and I'm in love with this place. So let me tell you a story... So I was in class, just craving something flavorful and filling... I looked up what was near by UCR, and this place popped up.. the reviews seemed decent, so I decided to try it. I walk in, and there's no customers dining inside. There was this older man cleaning the grill, and I think he was able to tell I was confused on where to begin. So he basically guides me. He goes over with the sizes and the combos. I decide on the small bowl ( just in case I didn't like it lol) . So the customer service was top notch. The man was so kind and patient with me. He helped me out allot. Once I picked my veggies and meat, I accidently knocked over a bunch of my veggies off my bowl and he told me not to worry about it, that he would add more for me and he helped me out with the sauces. He was very generous with the veggies, which I appreciated! He cooked my meats and veggies and made sure I liked noodles just in case I wanted rice instead. I got the noodles... And let me tell you... This food is delicious! Not only was the customer service perfect, and the food great... I had a great experience! Thank you for that! we will not be returning because this is the 2nd time in a row we have had hair in our food. The first time we forgave them but then we came back a month later and again there was hair in the rice. So disappointed and sad but we cannot risk our health and safety over negiglence. This was one of the better mongolian bbq compared to the other ones nearby. This is the best mongolian bbq I've ever had. Hands down. Then again, this is the first and only mongolian bbq place I've ever been to so I literally don't know any better. XD Food: Pick your meats, veggies, and sauces and they cook it for you. Its like a more high quality chow mein. I've never walked out unsatisfied. Service: Not bad. Pay the piper, "stack" your food under their watchful eyes, be glared at for not being smart enough to intuitively knowing the system of the soy sauce, and then having to choke down their overly soy sauce drowned food. This place is decent. It's just like the ones at the mall except that they are not in a food court, but is an actual store and they sell some other things too. The food taste just like the ones at the malls, so nothing to special. I like that it is actually a store and not in a food court in a mall. If I crave for it I can just go straight to the store and back to my car instead of having to walk through the mall with the food in my hands. The cashier was really nice. I really like this place. I always crave it about once a month. Im assuming its an acquired taste because the place is always empty while the nasty life cafe next door is packed. The concept is.. choose your bowl size.. stuff as much meat and veggies as you can into the bowl until you build a carefully structured mountain off it, anything that falls off will not be cooked. Bring it over to the huge grill where the worker cooks the meal in a bath of lemon, garlic, chili and soy sauce. I love it :) I tend to just order to go since the place is awkwardly quiet.. a bit of music and brighter lights couldnt hurt. read more

We visit Mongolian BBQ at least once a week for lunch. The staff is all very nice and attentive. The food is delicious - and I'm game for anywhere that lets me pick each ingredient that goes into my food. Customization is always a good thing. And you know its fresh because you see everything right in front of you. While they seem to be frequently out of some of their other dishes, like Udon or certain smoothie flavors, the traditional mongolian bbq is always delicious. The only thing I dislike is the soup - maybe it's just me, but it has no flavor. The chefs know what they're doing - I don't think I've ever been disappointed here. I never knew exactly what a Mongolian BBQ actually was until i came here. I wasn't expecting much thinking that this restaurant would just serve Mongolian cuisine. However, i found it very interesting and fun the way the food was served to us and the participating process they include customers in. You start the process by picking the size of the bowl that you want. I'm not too sure but the last time i remember a small bowl is about $7 or $8 and a large bowl is about $2 more expensive or so. Next, you take the empty bowl that is given and you go to a bar which is filled with frozen meat, fresh vegetables, and sauces. There is a variation of meat including lamb, chicken, beef, and pork. Almost every vegetable is served there and you fit as much as you can of all these into the bowl that you have. Even though they tell you not to push is down, i always do. And the fun part is that everyone has different ways of stacking the food in order to fit more. And after you are done, you take the food to the cook where he will stir fry the ingredients you chose into your dish. They have other selections of premade dishes on their menu but i do not recommend them compared to the actual Mongolian BBQ itself. However, what i do recommend for spicy lovers is ordering to the cook for an EXTRA SPICY dish which i can say is hard to handle even for me =) and i love spicy food Side notes: easy place to park, prices are decent depending on how good you stack your bowls (HINT: PUSH THE MEATS INTO THE BOWL) =), would recommend to family and friends, very spicy food! read more

I get my money's worth because I can stack food with the best of them. For a drink and a regular sized bowl it's $9.44 and if you stack the food 3 inches above edge of the bowl you will end up with a hefty serving of food. I like this Mongolian BBQ better than most others I've been to because it has more flavor. They do charge $0.50 for soda refills which is weird. read more

The service is what really deserves five stars, so I'll give them five. : ) The man who I *think* is the owner tried to upsell me, but did it in a friendly way. He wasn't pushy and didn't give me that 'that's it?' attitude when I only ordered ramen and water. Generally, at places like that, I feel like workers stop being friendly when I'm done paying. Here, the service was great from walking in to leaving the restaurant. I've only been here twice, once with a group and once alone. I ordered the spicy ramen each time. For a fairly cruel Yelper I actually like this place. However, there are some caveats to this statement: a) The staff is borderline unfriendly; at the very least, they're unhelpful. Seems to shift on a day-by-day basis though. b) The food is straight average. c) On principle, they're pretty stingy. And now, to address those caveats: a) They serve college kids all day. I'd be pissed off too. b) What do you expect? It's cheap (fairly), filling (nicely), and "average" is still tasty. If you can stack it high enough- this takes a small bit of talent -you get a ton of food for the money. You want three Michelin stars? Stop slumming it at a Mongolian BBQ place, and drive up to NorCal for some French Laundry. If you think the portions are too small, either you don't eat Mongolian BBQ enough, or you don't know how to stack... and as for those of you who want all you can eat, GO TO SOUPLANTATION. You sure as hell aren't entitled to it, and if you don't like that they don't have it here, go somewhere else that has it. c) It's the principle of asian fast food joints to be stingy with the food. Trust me, I worked in a teriyaki place in a food court. Eat the food, but be prepared to be lectured if you get caught overstuffing your bowl here. Refer back to my entitlement rant on "all you can eat" for all your other c) related issues. With all those things stated, I do like coming here. Fact is though, there's tastier food nearby... but quantity wise, no one beats Mongolian BBQ near the UCR campus. Three stars, to the best of an average bunch. read more

I have been coming here for quite some time but have finally decided to give it a gist of my thoughts. For the regular price, it is almost a MUST to get your money worth it by stacking the food as high as possible. For some people this is what drives them to criticize the place so much because of the small bowl. With proper stacking skills and patience I find myself getting my money's worth. The different assortment of vegetables is plentiful to make an almost interesting and unique bowl. I would stick with only a couple of them though as it is really tough to get all of them at once. As for the taste, if you like garlic, lemon, and spices, then just say you want everything and you'll get what you ask for. Good place if you're craving meat and noodles. read more

I certainly think this is one of the better places to eat at around campus. The price is a bit high, but given the spacious setting, plenty of seats, and TV's to watch sports, you're basically paying for the environment. Pretty average place compared to places like Amerikhan Mongolian BBQ. The bowls are small, the service could be better, and the noodles are hella oily because they don't want you to stack it. Also, no pushing down on the food? That's messed up. Especially for being so pricy. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone unless they were craving Mongolian BBQ. Came here with my girlfriend today for lunch. It's a tragedy, the service here was actually really good. The price is very reasonable for what you're getting. The food was pretty bland in general and everything tasted sweet. This review is solely based on the food. Long story short, not sure if they didn't cook the chicken all the way or not but I ended up getting food poisoning from here. 6 hours later, my toilet is my new best friend. 4.5. This place is SOO GOOD! I wish I had known about this place earlier when I actually used to attend UCR. Whenever I come to Rside, I always make it a point to visit this place. I think my only complaint would be that they don't have baby corn. Highlanders, do yourself a favor and take a break from A&I and Lothian's cafeterias and come here at least once. You'll be hooked. This place is right down the street from UCR and I miss it. Always packed during lunch--best to stop by on the weekends. I live near Riverside so it is a must visit when I am back in town or when I am bringing friends into my neck of the woods. The place is simple, clean, and fast. They are always playing soccer games on their big screen which is a plus. The ingredients (meat and veggies) are great quality and so is the final product. For those who have not done Mongolian BBQ before at this place you pay first, choose the size of your bowl and you get to load up on meat (which is thinly sliced and frozen at that point) vegetables (stack everything as high as you can!). At the end of the line there is an array of sauces which will add flavor to your noodles (lemon juice, oyster sauce, minced garlic, etc.). Then they take your bowl dump its contents on a large, round flat top, add the sauces, and (orange) noodles. It cooks up quick and is always delicious. They never let you down. read more

They have 4 advertisements outside for their 'Twist Potato' another 3 advertisements inside. My kids always want one, but the 5 times we been there, they always say they don't have any. Well then take the signs DOWN! I crunch the meat in half with the tongs while it's in the freezer so I can get the most meat and they cant see, but they suspect so they hover around and watch me cuz of that. Very awkward. Lol $10 large (but very small bowls), no pushing meat, 50 cent refills, no twist potatoes, and barley have the AC on during 105 degree weather... This place screams CHEAP! Sucks I'm new to Mongolian food so the taste is great, I have nothing to compare it too, it keeps me going back although the service is not well. This is just an average Mongolia BBQ place. The food does the job, nothing to rave about. Also, most Mongolian places you can go up and get more or try some different flavors, but here you can't. I'm a huge fan of Mongolian BBQ joints. It's hard to ruin food that you build yourself. But this place really tries to make everything else not a good experience. Looking at the menu you see that there is 2 sizes of bowl so naturally you go for the large. Then you see that the bowl is rather tiny (Or maybe I'm just greedy lol). Then you start the process but wait there is a sign that says "NO PRESSING DOWN ON FOOD", seriously? Nothing bugs me more than a restaurant that is more concerned with cutting corners and making up rules to save a penny rather than make a good experience for customers. I already feel swindled with my small bowl, now I can't try and pack that baby up?? They also serve food on "to-go boxes" for dining in, and charge 50c for refills... The saving grace of this place is that the cooks add the sauce for you and they are not stingy about it, and they add the noodles at the end so your tiny bowl isn't already full of noodles. So in the end you get a decent amount of food. The food is flavorful, and the rice is delicious and sticky which personally I like. A couple of small tweaks here and there and this place could be great. read more
