We came here for a late lunch on our way to Pismo. We wanted a brunch place in hopes our picky toddler would eat. The restaurant is small but very cozy. Love all the little touches with butterflies. They offer high chairs and also a coloring sheeting with crayons with a kids menu. We ordered shrimp tacos, beef tacos and a kids French toast with an egg (scrambled) and a choice of sausage or bacon. Unfortunately, our Kiddo refused to eat but we really enjoyed it! The tacos were really refreshing with slices of avocado. The hit was the water cup! We saved it and she requested it for the rest of our meals during our trip. One uni-sex bathroom in the back. Great breakfast spot. We got a couple omelets that were pretty big. It's not the cheapest place ever, but the portions make up for that. I got a mimosa that was a little heavy on the orange juice, but otherwise delicious. Service was excellent, and the atmosphere fit our Sunday morning mood very nicely. We enjoyed a simple breakfast at Monarca. The steak and eggs were well cooked. The french toast should have been soaked a bit more, but the flavor was good. The place is very cute and clean with a monarch butterfly theme. Chilaquiles was really good. My server initially gave me the wrong breakfast burrito and was kind and apologetic. It was pretty empty so I honestly say they took way too long to remake my order and my friend was already finished eating. Sadly, the my burrito was ok. I wish it had more flavor. They did mix the cheese with the beans so that part was flavored. The egg part was bland so I drowned it in the sauce it came with. I would come back again, but not for the breakfast burritos. I was really looking forward to seeing this place and enjoying a visit with a good meal. The hostess was unpleasant and seemed rushed. We placed our order and after it was brought out , we weren't offered more coffee and had to request the check after waiting for over 15 minutes after finishing our meal. This turned out to be a mistake to stop in on our way to our destination in southern CA. We'll try another place nearby on our way back. read more

This was our first time driving through downtown Paso Robles and we decided to grab a late breakfast at Monarca. The owner was standing outside in the heat and welcomed his customers into his restaurant. We were seated immediately and then greeted by our server. Staff were friendly and very fast. The menu had a good mix of scrambles, omelettes, Mexican specialties, and for those wanting options there were the combo plates. It took less than 15 minutes to get our food from the kitchen! We really appreciated that since we were quite hungry. The chorizo scramble was served on a sizzling hot plate which nicely crisped the chorizo and country potatoes. The sunny side eggs were cooked perfectly and together the whole dish was delicious. My daughter enjoyed her breakfast burrito which was filled with beans, scrambled eggs, potatoes and cheese. It was filling. The final dishes for breakfast were combos with pancakes or French toast. Their hash browns were one of the best, golden and crisp. Prices overall were reasonable. If we ever come back to Paso Robles then Monarca would be at the top of the list. read more

We came in on a Sunday and were seated after about 15 minutes. After that we were literally ignored for 20 minutes while everyone around us were able to place orders. Literally tables who came in 10 minutes after us and were seated next to us got service. I tried waving down the servers multiple times, when the man who seated saw we still had our menus, he told us our waiter would be with us shortly. After waiting another 5 minutes, we just walked out because they clearly didn't care. I get that it gets busy, but why even bother having the corner tables if you won't serve them. As I return to Paso Robles a couple times a year, I have always looked forward to Monarca restaurant for breakfast. However, my last visit was not as I would have expected. I could not have a cup of coffee in which the creamer did not curdle. The pancakes were exceptionally dry and when I asked for butter, we had to ask a second time in order for me to get it. My over easy eggs were more medium to no runny yolk at all. The only highlight was that my bacon actually turned out crispy as I had requested. When asked about crediting me for the coffee, we were told by the server that she could not take it off because the manager was the only one with the code and they were not there. As we were leaving, I turned to my friends and said we may need to find a different breakfast spot for our next trip to Paso. read more

Went here a couple of Sundays back. The place was jammed which told us something. The hostess was very personable and got us in as soon as she could. I had their Benedict and it was very good. We are a group of 7 adults and 2 kids enjoying weekend gateway in Paso Robles. We have kids in the party and it's a huge party so we were looking for restaurants take reservation and we decided on this one. Reservation was confirmed via text and email. BOTH. 5 mins before the reservation time, restaurant called and said the restaurant is full now and they cannot seat us, stating they have some sort of system issue. Are you kidding me?????
