Pedicures - my favorite! Ok, I admit that I had a nice pedicure here, and it included a cocktail. However, I was a bit put off by the price. When I called, I said I hadn't been there before, and the owner suggested a particular pedicure. I suppose I should have asked the price (but so many yelp reviewers quoted a $30 price tag, that I didn't). I was therefore a bit disappointed with the $50 price tag (though, to be fair, it was a gift to me, but still...). I picked a color and the woman who did my pedicure was super sweet and did a great job. I do think their chairs are a bit close to the water, so I felt like I was scrunching up a bit (I have long legs) and I didn't feel as comfortable as some of the other spots I've been where there is more of a lounge feel to the chairs. Overall, I was relaxed and had a nice pedicure, but due to the cost, I'm not sure I'd be back. This spot is definitely nicely done with a great atmosphere and it's also quite clean, but it's pricey and I think you can also get a really great pedicure for less. I know, I know...I could have asked, but this is extremely expensive for a pedicure in the city. read more

Each time I stop into the Mojo Spa on Milwaukee I am more and more impressed. The first time I popped into the store I was seconds away from swatching Mojo's powerful Rosy Cheeks stain on my hand when Amanda herself stepped in to help me test the product. She sat me down in a chair and helped me to try out several of Mojo's skincare and makeup products, somehow without once making the experience feel like a hard sell. Though I didn't make any purchases on my first visit, my pleasant experience in store has brought me back time and time again. Since then I've purchased the Ambrosia cleansing cream (big fan. Great product for my dry and sensitive skin), tried a dessert soap (in an adorable purple pie shape - very soothing and moisturizing which is surprising for a bar soap!), and been treated to a signature manicure at the spa. The nail spa has a wide color selection and uses several of the Mojo products throughout the manicure to strengthen nails and soften skin. I would definitely recommend the spa and I plan to visit again once my current manicure has grown out. Nothing builds my confidence in a brand more than the creator's belief in and passion for the product, that definitely exists at Mojo Spa. I highly recommend stopping in, even if just to admire the cool gemstone shaped soaps displayed at the front of the store (soon to be my next purchase from mojo!) read more

Remember that feeling you get when you were a kid...walking into toys r us? I had that same excitement when I visited this amazing little gem! The big colorful paper flowers grabbed my attention. Once inside, I couldn't refrain myself from looking at all the gorgeous merchandise they have there. The pedicure area is gorgeous. They have tons of gel colors! Oh, did I mention.....The even bigger paper flowers in the back was gorgeous!!! This seem like the definitely place for a fun get together spa day for the girls! Super cute and fun. I went to Mojo Spa after reading the good Yelp reviews and they lived up to their reviews. The staff was kind and accommodating and you can tell they have regulars for a reason. I got a no-chip manicure and it lasted for a solid two weeks. It was probably the best manicure I've ever had. The technician asked me what color I liked and gave me a perfect recommendation of a color. The price of the no-chip was $40 - a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. I just went in here to explore and ended up leaving with 4 eyeshadows lol. They are talc free, super pigmented and blend out easily even on bare skin. I was super impressed! The staff at Mojo Spa is wonderful! We booked a private party for a bachelorette party and the staff was so accommodating and friendly. We all got our services done in a timely manner and everyone was so happy with the quality. Everyone was extremely friendly and went out of their way to offer us free face masks, makeup applications and more while we waited. We were able to have food catered in and it was BYOB so we enjoyed mimosas during our services. The salon itself is so cute and had tons of different skincare and nail products you could purchase. Brunch and beauty - a great experience for a food, drinks and pampering. Apparently, you can set up to only 4, so bring your best 3 gal pals and yourself to Mojo Spa. For us, it worked out perfectly and it turned it into a nice gift for our new mom who needed to spend time with the girls where we could all just sit back and enjoy. Everything smelled fantastic! Even the coffee cinnamon butter toffee pancakes were, perhaps, the best pancakes I've ever had. It was a lot of fun and the staff, like their products, were really sweet. We showed up early to our appointment and Anna or Amanda, (gosh I'm bad with names), the person who does all the cooking and makes the products, gave us a briefing of the store, info for our morning's brunch and beauty, and how her products are made. Walking around, I simply loved the whole pink cloudy space with its high ceilings in gold crown moldings and wall frames. The juxtaposition being part store, part living room, part spa equated to cozy and adorable, works. I don't get a lot of mani/pedis, but the color selection was really quite vast. They apparently carried the latest colors, as well as the quirkier trends like crackle, neon, this fall's muted teals and grays, as well as, glow in the dark. The whole experience was excellent, could not have organized it any better, which was very little on my part. We could have sat in the back chit chatting, drinking coffee, for all we know. This place is awesome! I called to get their hours and their manager told me to come right over and they would get me in right away! Didn't wait at all and the woman who did my nails did an awesome job, even showed me a pretty purple to get instead of getting white like I always do. I am so happy with it! I paid $50 for a dip on my natural nail. It is so clean, good music, friendly people and they have makeup/beauty products. There's no TVs which means you can just enjoy the music and join in conversation if you want. This is my absolute FAVORITE spa in all of Chicago. This especially says a lot as the talent and the business competition is not rare and far between in a city like Chicago. Mojo Spa is able to provide a quality that many spas strive for yet are unable to achieve: AMBIANCE. For a lack of a better word, the ambiance is UNIQUE. The ambiance transports one to a whimsical wonderland. The spa is constantly updating their decor. I always look forward to stopping by whenever I am in the area, as I never know what to expect (in terms of the decor). The beauty products reflect the ambiance. I have tried their face masks, and they are truly magically. I have also gifted friends with products from here; the response I always get from friends is one of overwhelming excitement. I recently stopped by for a pampering with my sister-in-law to celebrate my birthday. The gal doing my manicure and pedicure did a phenomenal job. My favorite feature of the pedicure was the bath salt scrub (a very own Mojo Spa creation). The manicure and pedicure were very relaxing and therapeutic. The overall experience was amplified by George. George provided the best comedic relief ever. He took the time to get to know my sister-in-law and I. More importantly, he made made sure I was enjoying my birthday to the fullest. Honestly, once you celebrate your birthday at Mojo Spa, you must then celebrate it there every year after. This experience left me REJUVENATED, which is exactly what one needs on his/her birthday. P.S. It does not hurt that I was gifted a lovely grapefruit mint soap bar in honor of my birthday ;). I've shopped at Mojo before and I've noticed the salon but never had the opportunity to experience it til a friends bachelorette party. So much fun! They had the entire area sectioned off for our group of 15. From mani pedi to makeup. They had drinks and snacks available while we were getting pampered. The staff was so friendly and even joined in the some embarrassing bachelorette fun. And the pricing menu is very reasonable. $18 for my manicure and they only charged me $5 to take off my no chip. For years I've been going to a little hole-in-the-wall salon near my office in the loop, getting a quickie manicure on my lunch break. No frills, just down-n-dirty. We just recently moved offices, however, so I decided it was finally time to find a salon near my house that I didn't only just like, but love. After a lot of research, I decided to go all in at Mojo and I am so, so, glad I did. I not only made an appointment for a mani but decided to try dip for the first time ever. I am now a dip fanatic and will trust no one other than Rosa to do it. She has done my nails at both of my visits and I cannot recommend her enough. She pays such close attention to detail, is consistently great and I am constantly getting compliments on my nails. Also, I can make these babies last for three weeks EASY with zero evidence of wear and tear, and I am super tough on my nails. Like, "gel usually chips within a week" tough of my nails. I feel great about the products they use, and am always so blown away by how sweet, open and lovely everyone who works there is. Their prices are a little higher than a cheapo salon, but honestly, still totally affordable and 1000% worth the slightly higher price in terms of quality of work and products. My new favorite nail salon!! Not only is it cute and clean inside, my nails looks awesome. They have this chrome/shiny/opal polish and it just looks so cool I can't stop looking at my own nails. (As Demi lovato says, what's wrong with bein confident?) A great place for your hands and feet! I had a crystal facial before and that was nice too but I prefer the pedicures! Came in here because my usual place (Juko Nail) was booked on NYE :( Luckily they fit me in but couldn't do a mani AND pedi because of time?? So I'm guessing they only had a specific time slot. This shop is hard to miss. It's filled with beautiful flowers and colors. The products I got from here were pretty good but I do have to call out one. I have given the boss babe spf a full weeks worth of trying and it just doesn't work. It's fragranced even though it's labeled as clean beauty. Alone without makeup on top if you touch your face you will feel a weird balling up crunchy film. I have normal hydrated skin I don't know if it's because the product is just sitting on top and not seeping in but I highly don't recommend. read more

I wanted more of a hygienic pedicure experience than I had been getting elsewhere. I came across this spa and let me tell you - it is so clean! It does not smell like acetone and nail shavings. They hand make all of their products. Their tubs are clean, and they thoroughly clean before each service. I had Lauren, she was so sweet and did such a fantastic job with my pedicure that I went with a mani too. She was very thorough and it was very relaxing. The owner, George was very friendly and warm. Me and six friends came here for a baby shower and it was absolutely delightful. We had our own space in the back of the shop to set up our own food and drinks, and to relax while we received our nail services on shifts. The technicians are absolutely delightful and very precise with their work. The owner or manager is lovely and he went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and happy. He even upgraded the nail service for one of my friends to a no-chip for free. I haven't tried their skincare products but they have lots of intriguing options I might sample for next time. So conflicted! I desperately wanted to like--nay, love--Mojo. I'd heard amazing things, both from Yelp and from flesh and blood peoples. But it just didn't do it for me. I took my mom there for her birthday gift and.. oy. It was such a mixed experience that I think the best thing I can do would be to break it into pros and cons: PROS: Cute place, and the owner's boyfriend was a doll. He fed our meter and offered us pizza, and was just very friendly and nice. I dug getting sent home with our leftover scrubs and lotions, and very much liked the quality of them. The gals who worked on us took their time and didn't rush, even though there were other appointments waiting. And, in their way, were actually very sweet and likable. But more on that aspect of it all below. Contrary to other reviews, we didn't get pressured to buy products or to upgrade our services. CONS: Trying to book the appointment was really difficult. When I called Friday for a Monday appointment, I was told by the person who answered that they were closed. Ok, no problem. However, after asking my dear Yelpers on suggestions on places to go, I was told that they were actually open that particular Monday (it was a holiday). I called back the next day, and after being shuffled around and called back, we finally got our appointment for mani pedis. We get there a few minutes before we're scheduled, and there are 2 nail techs there, both working on other customers. A five or ten minute wait, I could understand, but we waited close to a half hour. As I mentioned, though, the desk guy was as nice as could be. Still optimistic, we're seated for our pedicures. Now, call me bratty, but as Mojo charges a pretty penny more for the service than other places, I was expecting it to be worth it. I saw no real difference in the length or quality of the services as compared to cheaper places. The real kicker in all of this, however, is that the girls working on us obviously had some beef with management. The tech working on my mom griped about the change in management, what the place had been like back when it was under different management, and expressed some pretty obvious disdain for how things were run there. To her credit, her concerns were warranted (at least, from her side of the story), i.e., her, along with other techs, being told, not asked, to stay past closing some weeks prior to work on a party that was scheduled who showed up close to two hours late. Sucky, to be sure, but I really wasn't thrilled to hear her bragging about gypping the party out of the upgrades they had been talked into--and charging them full price. While we were finishing our services, the counter guy ordered a pizza (super nice) for the technicians.. who had other appointments who were kept waiting for an equally long time as us, and were, thusly, were unable to eat all day. Or so was the claim. The icing was that both my mom's and my nails were chipped within 24 hours. At the end of it all, I felt frustrated (for the gals, and my nails), and poor. While I don't doubt that I could have said something or called the following day, at the end of it all, I just really didn't want to spare the effort, or get anyone in trouble. Small business is hard, I definitely could emphasize with both the techs and management... and yet, playing counselor really wasn't conducive to taking my mom our for the nice day I had in mind. I have gone to Moho Spa many times over the years. The owner's boyfriend or whatever is George, He is obnoxious, annoying, and pushy. He is a like a used car salesman. UGGGGGHHHH. I had a number of girlfriend get togethers here and was instructed that I could bring alcohol for my party and that George was going to have 'treats' for us for being such great customers. My girlfriends and I were charged $25 PER BOTTLE as corking fee. When we questioned it we were brushed off. The manicures had gotten to be sub-par at that time. I actually still have their punch-card and it is completely full to be reimbursed for a free mani or something and I WILL NOT BE BACK. I have also tried some of their products and I am not impressed. The MIdas Touch is nothing other than a thick lotion. Not impressed. I have not stepped foot in this place since our horrible experience. No Thanks. I have found much better places in the neighborhood that are worthy of my business. read more

The only thing keeping me from eating this store is the fear that (like almost everything in this store) it is made out of soap, scrubs, and candle wax. But it just smells so damned good! I stopped in here on my last visit to Chitown. What an adorable place! It is filled with displays of skincare, haircare, perfume, soaps, and make up all cleverly disguised as delicious looking cakes and treats. I also spied a bunch of awesometown purses that I wanted to get my hands on. Score. Plus (and this is a huge plus) they do parties. Cool events. If you need to throw a bridesmaid party, birthday party, breakup party (trust us--he totally sucked), this is the perfect place. They offer a ton of spa services like manis, pedis, massages, masks, and scrubs. Attend the beauty and brunch party where you can feast on a homemade brunch while getting treatments with the gals (or boys!). Pajama Night happens on the first Friday of the month (call to make sure they are doing it that month) where with a minimum of $30, you get free facials, a DJ spinnin' yo favorite song, and a dessert bar. Um yes. This place is cool. Don't go on Mondays because they are closed. But you should definitely go. read more

So here's the awesome dealio with Mojo. As soon as you walk in, your snifferoo will be taken to a place I like to call la la land. In la la land you will find yourself doing sensory twirls, happy spins and feeling like you are the prettiest princess in all the land (yes guys, you can be a princess here too, I won't tell). The place is filled with products that are cooked up right there in the store and everything is natural and oh so fabulous. I purchased some natural zit cream (...yep, even I get zits from time to time...I know, I know, it seems unbelievable, but it's true, hehe) and already it is working wonders. They also have a slew of makeup products, bath time enhancers and do mani pedis as well. Definitely the kinda place to go if you want to be in a good mood instantly and pamper yourself a bit. I stopped in after breakfast at the Bongo Room. The place is cute. The guy at the desk was chatting with me while I was trying to read the ingredients on different lotions, so I explained that I was looking for a lotion without parabens. He continued on about how the products are all homemade and natural, which Mojo makes a big deal about on their website. I purchased a lotion and read the ingredients more carefully when I got home and found germaben II on the label. I looked it up on the internet and indeed it is a paraben. Mojo's claims of "homemade and natural" are deceiving and meaningless. When I contacted the owner about my concerns they never responded. FYI for those interested, parabens are a group of chemicals used as preservatives in lotions, conditioners, shampoos, deodorants. They are listed on the label as methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, benzylparaben, isobutylparaben, and propylparaben. They are sold under different cosmetic names, including Germaben II and LiquiPar Oil. Studies have shown that parabens display estrogenic activity. Other studies have also shown that parabens have accumulated in breast cancer tissue. It has been proven that excess estrogen does lead to reproductive cancers (like breast and uterine cancer), and it has been proven that parabens act like estrogen and accumulate in the body. read more

I dunno - but for $12 you get a wonderful very festive-looking little jar that smells amazing. - Mint-Mellow Fluff Face and Body Scrub: peppermint infused cleansing scrub, containing creamy whipped coconut butter & peppermint essential oil to invigorate & moisturize your skin. Love it, and makes wonder for this winter crocodile skin of yours. - Champagne Toast (made with bergamot essential oil and coarse sea salt) and Noble King soaps (infused with patchouli essential oil and activated charcoal): both speckled with gold....both amazing smells....I want to be in the shower all the time. I had an appointment with "Dr. Feelgood." And, I am hear to declare...I feel goooooooooood after my dynamite visit to Mojo Spa on a Friday punctuating a long-ass week. The following found me at Mojo: 1. A glorious 2 hour spa Dr. Feelgood manicure/pedicure with masks, wraps, massages, hot towels, bright neon colors (they have a GREAT selection) performed with care by a sweet and talented technician who smiled, offered me cocktails and laid out an iced oreo cookie for me. Oh, and the offer of cocktails! Many times. 2. George, the owner. A champion of customer service, conversation and cool. No wonder everyone loves this place. A tight beauty ship run by a pro. The vibe is laid back, fun, and "together," which is a hard thing to achieve. 3. A new friend! I am not kidding. I was sitting next to a girl who was 1. visiting her boyfriend in Chicago 2. moved to NYC 6 months ago 3. originally from Michigan. 4. Obviously likes good spas. Of course now we need to be great friends, and we chatted for over an hour while getting our nails done. I mean, really? This doesn't happen to me. I am thrilled. New friends aren't usually on the menu! Tips: *Don't book anything after your Mojo appointment. I would've loved to peruse makeup (and they do complimentary applications!), soaps, etc and I had to rush off to another appointment. This place is super cute and the marketing is on point. I can appreciate that. However, making an appointment here is a huge pain in the a**. I would expect a place such as this with an awesomely adorable website to have online booking. Alas, you must call repeatedly, ne'er to have your calls answered or your voicemails returned. So far, I've only been successful at booking one appointment here. Surprisingly, they were very accommodating my first time around and the evening of my appt, they weren't very busy at all. In fact, they only had three people working and maybe one other customer aside from myself. However, the receptionist seemed a little lax about the phone calls, which could explain the trouble with scheduling appts. Aside from sitting in awkward silence for 30 min, my no-chip mani was fab and lasted several weeks. Also, my nail tech was super fast, probably because of the lack of chit chat. I'm ok with that. Maybe they are the kind of place that wants to look too busy, as if they don't need your business. I would love to get another appt sometime this century, and perhaps even attend their Harry Potter party....but only time will tell if I'm successful. Good luck, folks. read more

So we're walking around in Mojo Spa when Andrea W. casually notes that Oprah has been trying to do something with these guys but they keep putting her off/ turning her down. Curious, I ask why. Why? Apparently it has something to do with the fact -fact, I tell you- that this place is freaking *awesome.* Backstory as I was told is that the proprietor is not only a crack chef (which means she's an excellent chef, not the other thing you were thinking), and that many of the bath and body items sold here have been made from food products. And even if that sounds odd, it shouldn't, unless odd is on the direct path to amazing. All sorts of bath salts, exotic soaps, spa treatments. Word is that they do a brunch and manicure-pedicure thing that the ladies swear by. And if it's enough to ask yourself whether you want to eat or contemplate what you're going to smear all over yourself next, someone has to be doing something right. Take a number, Oprah. I had a great experience with a salesgirl over the weekend, enough to want to come back in during the week. Unfortunately, there was this horribly pushy and annoying guy at the desk who kept trying to talk to me even though I was already talking with my friend. Every time I looked at anything or I said anything to my friend he kept trying to aggressively insert himself into the conversation by yelling across the showroom. I made it pretty clear I wasn't interested in his overselling but he basically made it impossible to avoid, trying to force me to shake his hand etc, and I left without buying anything because I was very uncomfortable browsing. It wasn't even the friendly pushiness like you get at Lush; this guy was very fake and annoying and in your face. Calm down dude, people don't want to shop somewhere to pamper themselves and relax if you shove your pushy, fake conversations down their throat. Let people browse, if they aren't interested in a convo don't make them extremely uncomfortable. Not everyone is interested in having a loud boisterous (and fake) conversation with you. You'll drive your clientele away. I might have to just order online to avoid another rude encounter. 2 stars because so far I love the product despite their price tag. Minus 3 because I'll be buying less just from being uncomfortable with that salesguy who is probably an owner. read more

Yay! I finally found a lovely place for my weekly manipedis. I've been a fan of Strong Nails- it's good for cheap, but it's kind of out of the way for me and I've been in the mood to be a bit more pampered when doing my pampering (isn't that the point?). My search ends here. Love Mojo. The owner is a sweetheart. The girls were all sweethearts. My fingers and toes looks great. I can't say how long it lasts since I got them done yesterday, but the process itself was wonderful. Good music, comfortable chairs, nice color selection. And the women take their time. As they should. At one point I thought about this, that it was taking a while. Then I scolded myself- why I am worried that it was taking too long? Hello, it feels good, don't complain, Chayla. So if you're looking to get in and out, this isn't the place. I wanna say it was about an hour and a half, maybe a bit more. But it felt so good, no tugging or pinching. And they've got lots of "stuff" to browse before or after, lotions, jewelry, etc. I love it here. Can't wait to go back. Also, it sounds as if they do a lot of private parties here. BYOB, etc. ------------Update--------------- I hate to do this, but it's important, so I will. I no longer go to Mojo because the last time I did, I got a fungus on my thumb. Ewwww. They did save me some money, I didn't get a manicure for a couple of months until it went away. But I don't like fungus. read more

After I had my feet and legs soaked, scrubbed, exfoliated, lotioned, buffed, massaged, polished, and prettied up to an inch, I experienced the second most spectacular fall in my life. The first one was at an aquabus stop in Venice. I was picked up by six big, handsome Italian men who proceeded to pluck me from the ground and hand-dust off what felt like every inch of me at the time. It remains the basis for many of my steamiest sexdreams. At Mojo Spa, there was only one guy (George!) and I had been drinking champagne (thank you for waiving the corkage fee, George!) so I definitely do not blame Mojo (although come on! Whose idea was it to have paper slippers on wood laminate floors?!) Nonetheless, as I sat there in a puddle of champagne and sugar scrub, I could not help but think that if I was going to fall today, I'm so glad it was at Mojo, where at least I ended up with some really pretty fingers and toes to go with my bruised ass. read more
