I specifically went into the store because they were having a promotion where if you spent a certain amount you got a complimentary candle. I went into the store, asked about the promotion and a sales associate showed me the candle and raved about its scent and burn time. I browsed the store and upon selecting my purchases in around 20m, the associate checking me out informed me after ringing me up that they were out of the promotional candle (despite still having many on the floor). There was no indication when I asked about the promotion upon entering the store that quantities were limited. The sales associate who helped me with my makeup was very attentive, thus the 2 instead of 1 star. Based on this, I will be avoiding credo beauty in the future and making purchases at one of the many other retailers that carry the same products. read more

I like the concept of Credo beauty and having a bunch of clean, popular products all in front of me. But I seriously wish their staff would just let the customers shop. People were continuously interrupted to be told about the various sales/promos and this is nice to an extent. Like a super healthy Sephora-- so much fun! My foundation (of 10 years) was finally discontinued so i needed to find a replacement. Non-toxic makeup is really important to me. Emmy walked me through all of the options (makeup has changed a lot!) and helped me find the perfect formula and color match. She was patient and thorough and really nailed it! This is a lovely little shop, very clean and warm Feeling, unlike sterile or cluttered kind of environment many beauty shops tend to have. It was nice and quiet, too, which I like (I hate when you walk into a store and people have to shout at you because it's so loud). They have a lot of well-respected brands in the clean beauty sector: Tara Harper, RMS Beauty, Jane Iredale, Vapour cosmetics, Juice Beauty, and so on. I used to purchase these products online only, so it's nice to have a place in town to go if I want something from one of these brands so I can try it out or test colors and what have you. There was one thing that bothered me, however, and that's regarding the accessibility of the store. There is a large step to get into the store (one which I almost forgot about as I left the store, since it blends so seamlessly into the sidewalk below--if I hadn't been looking down I'm sure I would have stumbled, not remembering it was there). If one uses a wheelchair I'm not sure how they'd be able to get in. It's possible it would be difficult to navigate even if you used a cane (the step was higher than a typical stairway). If not for this, I may have given the store a rating of four stars instead of three, but since inclusive spaces are important to me I chose the lower of the two. read more

No do not recommend. Sales associates are super pushy trying to get you to buy product which I hate. Also purchased a foundation after having it tested in my skin at the store. They must have pulled the wrong color from what I tried because when I got home and used it the next day it was a totally different color. Only give store credit for products that were used and returned. Have spent tons of money at Credo. I am done. Michelle was amazing! She gave me a virtual session teaching me how to take my eye makeup game to the next level. I appear on TV from time to time. And due to the pandemic, I now have to do my own hair and makeup. Michelle taught me how to put on false lashes. I did buy several products that I can't wait to try. I have attended other virtual makeup tutorials with makeup artists, but those other ones were just teaching me things I already knew how to do. It was a lot of fun. I choose zero stars. I purchased $177 worth of products from them in November. It is a product line they no longer carry, Jones Road. The foundation was full of small flakes. Foolishly I didn't question it at the time. The Miracle Balm was on the dry side, not creamy. Again I didn't question. The product was new to me. I used the products. Fast forward to this week. After communicating with Jones Road and replenishing the products I realized that what Credo sold me were out of date or damaged products. I immediately emailed them. Their reply was too bad. It's been too long. I only know their products were flawed because I bought new ones and there is no comparison. They will offer me 15% off but they no longer carry what I use. I came here for an eyebrow wax and had a great experience! They use wonderful products that weren't harsh or irritating on my skin. The store is filled with safe and sustainable natural beauty products. The girl who waxed my eyebrows was super friendly and she gave me a great sample of eye cream! I was THRILLED to find out that Credo was finally opening a store in Chicago! When I first found Credo, it was only online and in San Francisco/New York. The online support was amazing and the options were fantastic. The staff was informed and offered more than one selection and even sent samples of some of the options to help me figure out what would be best. Now comes the store experience. I have been treated better a Sephora or other big makeup stores. I went in wanting to change my bb cream and possible get better eyeliners/eye cream. I told the first woman, that I was thrilled about Credo (the only bad thing is the deluge of emails with a new Chicago store) and what I was looking for. She passed me to another person, who gave me one option for bb cream and then walked away. I wandered around the store looking at other possible options, remember the eyeliner/eye cream, and when I walked by the register the magically reappeared to check me out. I wasn't even ready to check out! At that point, I was done. Clearly Credo beauty online is light years better than the store. Save your money and time and avoid this overpriced shop. read more

I absolutely LOVE Credo Beauty! I have shopped with them online and they have an amazing and vast selection of green beauty brands as well as super friendly customer service! I was thrilled to hear that they were opening up a brick and mortar store in Chicago! Most green beauty stores are in New York and LA, but the entire middle of the country gets skipped over most of the time. I never understood why a major city such as Chicago would get skipped over but SO ecstatic Credo is open here now! They are ahead of the game putting a store in Chicago! Today was my first visit. Marisa was very helpful, listened to my wishes and concerns and did not try to upsell me. When I said I wasn't willing to pay $55 for one product and found another for half the price she apologized for not having thought of that one. They do try to match color first, which makes sense. In fairness the second brand didn't have as great a color selection, though it did have one that worked for me. Everyone working there was very helpful. I had always really liked this place until recently. I called during the pandemic to do a curbside pickup. They were still closed to the public when some other places had opened, totally understandable. I was trying to give local places business when times had been so tough. I called to inquire about stock availability for a couple foundations I wanted to purchase. The girl on the phone said she had them, and told me I needed to pay in advance. I was not home and did not have a credit card with me, and politely asked her to hold them. She gave me a lot of attitude and said if I didn't call back the next day to pay they would put them back. I called very early the next day to pay and she never even put them on hold for me at all. The girl that helped me that day could not have been nicer. I decided on one of the foundations and ordered another one they did not have in stock online. Today I went to return the items I decided against. The door to the shop was unlocked and all the lights were on. Suddenly a girl walked out and instead of greeting me said "We're closed". I said that I didn't know that (I thought they were open until 6). She said "Yeah. We'll be open tomorrow at noon but we are closed." Low and behold it was the same rude girl from the phone. I looked on Google and I guess they close at 5 now. When I was in the store it was 5:03. I have worked retail since I was 16 and could never imagine treating a customer that way. I will go back to return my unused items but will no longer be a patron after. There are so many other store options out there that care about customer service. read more

They don't treat all people fair. I am an African American woman. I just visited this store for the first time, it was fully staffed when I walked in not a word no greetings or friendly introduction. A few minutes later a white woman comes in; she is nearly greeted by the entire staff. Seriously!!!! When a staff member finally said hello; she seemed to be whispering. Oh, no! I wish I had a Credo in Charlotte, NC! Varied selection of almost all the natural brands a girl could want. I was able to pick up a new mascara, eye liner and hand sanitizer. Service was attentive and personal. The day we visited there was a juice beauty rep present who was more than happy to demo her products and give me samples. If I lived nearby, I would treat myself to a facial here. Their facial room looked gorgeous and peaceful. All the testers were fresh and clean. There is not an overwhelming level of products that don't need to be there. They focus on high quality brands that are "green" and cruelty free. What brought my visit hovering near 5 star was Marisa. She was sweet, so helpful, knew just when to assist and just when to let you browse and had great info and recommendations. I had the Credo 150 dollar facial. Wendy was interested in my face needs. I have sensitive skin and she did her best to make the facial work with my skin. The room where the facial is given is not heated enough for Chicago weather so they have a warmer and a heavy duvet. It is an uncomfortable weight and detracted from the facial. My daughter had the pregnancy facial and she was disappointed because the technician seemed afraid to touch a pregnant woman. It was a fun event with my daughter but we both are happier with our regular facial relationships. read more
