I have a go to nail salon, but my tech was booked out quite a bit and I chose to visit Modern Nails because I was a in a pinch. I was beyond the point of needing a fill and just needed a new set. The technician I got was friendly but when he started to prep to remove my acrylics he used the dry method of ripping the nails off with another acrylic nail. This is disappointing and should not be the standard way of removal- it is extremely damaging to the nail bed. And more importantly extremely painful. After the first nail I had to ask for the soaking off method. I know it takes more time but I am more than willing to pay for it. But then when it came time to use the drill I think they were using a wrong bit or were to heavy handed because my nails felt like there being torched. I've been getting my nails done for most of my adult life, this is not the norm for me. Time came to start shaping my new set and I asked for a very popular shape right now. They told me they didn't know how to do it. At this point I just wanted to get anything done and be able to leave. I settled for another shape and the rest of the experience was okay. My nails were done, and I'd rate them a 4/10. They look pretty but they are very thick compared to what I like. I'm not sure I will return. But I think there is potential. The salon is clean and nice. It may have just been an off day for the tech. read more

FABULOUS. What a meticulous, sweet, and fun staff to be around. Triana did my nails based on an inspo pic I found... and I think she did even better! She is so sweet, attentive and intuitive. Steve-O running FOH made us fabulous cocktails and also did my friend's nails and toenails, and was just as talented and hilarious to talk to. Kim, who did my toes, was also amazing! cannot recommend enough for a fabulous experience, start to finish, with the best team. Will be returning for life! read more

I was super impressed by this place the prices are reasonable and the people are friendly. My specialist, started singing while doing my feet! I love it when people live what they do. I got the service with the hot rock and massage, which was kind of short, but they still delivered. They did an excellent job scraping the dead sking and such. We were only in town for a week and I wants to go back before I left. Tips: The water starts out a little hot but you get used to it. If you're sensitive to hot water, get that straight before dropping your feet in. Get straight the massage time before they start read more

I've been coming here for over a year now, and they've always exceeded my expectations! This is the only salon I've found in the area that does a delicate, hand-painted French tip. I also recently got a hand-painted floral design that's stunning. When I need a neutral color, they're able to match my natural nail color perfectly, so that the growth is seamless. Kim did the floral design pictured here, and I highly recommend anyone else there! read more

I had the worst pedicure I've ever had here! I sprung for the fancy collagen pedicure since I haven't had a pedicure in many many months. When I told Tony the nail tech the pedicure I selected he rolled his eyes and seemed very annoyed and went to talk to the front desk guy. When he came back he was very rough and abrupt cut my cuticles to the point of bleeding in several spots he was moving very fast and rough it was careless, massage was rough in a bad way like he was taking his anger out on me and he was scratching me with his nails. He never checked in with how it was for me and I multiple times winced and said it was too rough. When he put the gloves on me for a hand mask he was so rough he bent back one of my finger nails and ripped the gloves it was so bizzare. In addition I selected a 90 minute service and it only lasted 60 minutes I will never be back! read more

I received the worst manicure ever here yesterday. The technician cut my nails way too short and injured my finger with her rotary tool enough for it to bleed. She was distracted and went too fast without much regard. I asked for clear powder finish but I noticed when she finished she had used a slightly opaque pink powder. I was very disappointed and didn't even want to stay an extra minute there. I would highly recommend that no one go there. The manager seemed to turn a blind eye to what happened to me. read more

I recently got a manicure and pedicure done at Modern Nails because this is where my friend wanted to go. First time for me as I am not a local. I was pretty impressed walking in because the space is huge and well decorated. There were also tons of color options in both standard and gel polish. It also appeared to be pretty clean. The front desk lady greeted me immediately. I let her know my friend was running late for her appointment and that I wanted to get started with a pedicure. I picked my colors and they sat me down. When my friends arrived, they seated all of them across the room from me despite the place being empty. It was super awkward and I felt a bit like what's the point of doing this with my friends if they are way across the room? My pedicure started off great but then the woman assisting me really started digging into my nail bed areas and hurting me so bad, I thought I was going to be bleeding for sure but to my surprise I was not. She proceeded with everything else just fine until we got to polish where she was almost done, but got some polish on her arm from my nail when it was almost dry. Instead of redoing that nail, she just tried to do some patch work and fix it. It just didn't look great and didn't feel relaxing. I was not very impressed with the pedicure especially for the price buying a nicer experience, I had hoped to in the very least for it to be relaxing. This all changed for me when I got my manicure. My manicurist was amazing. She was gentle but effective when dealing with the shaping and cleaning up of my nails. I ended up getting gel polish and I don't do that often, but it was a super good experience and I loved the way it looked after. They were not busy at all on this weekday morning we went and the whole experience took quite a bit of time. Overall, I think if you're looking for a manicure I would recommend this place wholeheartedly. Just not so much if you need a pedi! read more

nail service was bad I had the man I forgot his name to be honest, but he charged me an extra five dollars just to cut my nails down which is included or should be included in the service. he did not lotion my hands or do a hot towel and he was on his phone like the whole time did not talk to me once and was like rude honestly, I've never going back and do not recommend the person who is with the front desk woman!! I came in after a disastrous attempt to try to do my nails at home by myself, and after being turned away by a separate salon for them not having enough techs available. I had a feeling my boyfriend was going to propose the next day, and was desperate to have my nails look nice. I came into Modern Nails and was greeted by Steve, who immediately took care of me, gave me advice on what would look best for engagement pictures in terms of nail style, and stayed late for me. The nails he did for me were simple and beautiful and made me feel so special. Sure enough, the next day my boyfriend proposed, and I felt so happy and confident taking our engagement photos during the proposal. Steve went above and beyond to turn a bad situation into such a happy one, and I'm so thankful he took the time to take care of me. read more

TLDR: Save your money and time by not coming here. I walked in here while waiting to sell clothes at Uptown Cheapskate next door. I asked if they had availability for a gel manicure and the receptionist said yes, it would be a 20 minute wait. I sat patiently and chose my color, and was brought to a manicure table after about 10-15 minutes. From that table I watched other people get helped who walked in after me (and had heard them say they had no appointment), employees amble around the store, and was basically ignored for the next 25-30 minutes. I ended up waiting over 40 minutes before someone came over finally to start my manicure. She came, gruffly asked if I was getting a gel manicure, then sat to start without another word. They also use drills here, regardless of natural nails or not. I could've easily had my gel soaked off completely in the time I sat waiting to. Anyway, was a bit annoyed they didn't ask or give an option to just soak and file as I've been trying to strengthen my natural nails. I also watched her throw the drill bits mindless back into dusty box that seemed full of nail dust...not sure if they clean it every time after the fact but it didn't seem like the most sanitary way to store given there was existing particles in the box she pulled them out of. The manicurist was not particularly friendly and seemed to get very impatient when the color I picked looked completely different--I stopped her before curing so all she had to do was wipe it off. I asked if I could do Funny Bunny and she said they were out so I just went with a color she found. It ended up being an alright color but not exactly what I hoped for. She didn't give me much time to choose another color. Also, right after that, I swear I heard a girl come in and they told her to pick a color and she said "oh I'm just going to do Funny Bunny"......so not sure what was up with that. The manicure itself turned out okay. The shape across my nails was inconsistent and polish layers uneven. There were some spots, specifically on my thumbs, that were very obviously not layered enough (pictured). So I paid roughly $40 for to wait for almost an hour, to get a less-than mediocre manicure by a less-than friendly lady in a not-so clean and comfortable place. I've learned my lesson for sure--it's better to drive 20 minutes out of the way to a quality place (I prefer Lantana Nails) than go somewhere closer by that is a waste of money. read more

Rating: 4.7 I decided to get my wedding nails done here. I went in on a Saturday at 10am for a pedi and French tip with gems/desigacrylic nails. Pedi was great, nails were not. A day after I got my nails done, the gems started falling and the gel began to scrape away. I called and asked if they could be fixed and asked me to go in. So I did, the sweet woman at the front called the manager over the phone and informed her of the quality of my nails. They scheduled me for a next day appointment with the manager herself. I have had very good experiences with them in the past but just about a week and a half ago I went to get a full gel-x set. It was super cute and I was very pleased until the day after I got my set done, two of my nails had already fallen off while completing simple tasks (brushing my hair and grabbing my things). Since then all of my nails have fallen off except my thumbs and one ringer finger. (Reminder a full set is supposed to last around three to four weeks and mine lasted a week and a half). I am very upset with this experience and am debating wether this salon is worth it. read more

Overall, I was disappointed with my experience and that I drove as far as I did to come here. One of the main reasons I drove out to this particular salon was because the online reviews said that they had strict Covid protocols in place - I was EXTREMELY disappointed to see that the plastic dividers online reviews spoke about were nowhere in sight and less than 10% of the clients were wearing masks. With the new Covid variants, it would be refreshing to see the salon return to some of the Covid protocols that were posted on reviews. I selected the pampered pedicure and was disappointed at the onset by two factors - one, the tools used were not bagged/opened in front of me. Second, the scrubs and lotions used for this treatment were generic and didn't particularly look or smell good (in fact, I thought most of the product used smelled bad - the hot towels had a particularly unpleasant smell). This wasn't the most basic pedicure (it also wasn't the top of the line) but I certainly expected a higher quality of product/materials given the $55 price tag. The treatment also included a paraffin treatment - this was SHOCKINGLY HOT when the technician put it over my feet. I'm used to a technician letting it cool down first but not this time - straight in my feet went and it was NOT relaxing, it was painful. The massage portion of the pedicure was enjoyable and it was a decent length of time. I have definitely become accustomed to hot stones as part of pedicures (above the most basic level) and stones were not a part of the pampered pedicure here but overall the technician did spend a decent amount of time massaging my calves and feet and it was nice. Another positive, an easy, on-line reservation system. The nails themselves came out OK - the technician did two coats and a clean up - the clean up could have been tidier for sure. If this is local to you maybe it's a place to consider but I wouldn't drive out of my way again to come here. read more

I haven't been here since mid summer of last year and I was extremely disappointed and disgusted with the service I received today. I'm not sure what the gentleman's name was who did my nails but he was so rude and I genuinely feel like I got robbed. I requested a light pink base instead of nude for my French tips and he immediately said no. He asked if I wanted to cut my nails shorter and I said yes, not knowing that there would be a charge to get my nails filed not even half an inch?? Never in my life have I been charged to have my nails FILED. I left extremely dissatisfied. Nothing about this was relaxing. I would not recommend for anyone to get their nails serviced at this salon. I paid $75 for a fill! Unacceptable! Not even two hours later, the polish is already chipping. 0/10 read more

Website pricing is wrong. I just got a polish on my toes. No polish removal. No pedicure. Polish only and it was $30. They tried to argue with me about the pricing because on the menu it says $15. Such a rip off for polish only. I won't be back. Front desk staff was nice tho and it was nice inside. read more

My friend and I came in for mani (full set)/pedicures and were very pleased with the services ! Both of our technicians were professional, kind and perfectionists. We had never been to this location, but upon seeing their work we were blown away and came in as Walk Ins. I would recommend booking appointments just in case of wait, but we were seen within 5 mins after an estimate of 10-15 min wait. You'll regret coming here. I did. Took her 45 minutes just to soak off my nails and didn't even get it all off. No one speaks English. Spilled acetone all over my sunglasses. Wouldn't trust em w my nails ever again. read more

I do not get my nails done often but when I do I come here as it is close to where I live and is never very busy. I have only had one technician who I really liked so I probably should find out her name and request her in the furure The prices are not cheap so I really expect more than what I receive. I had a basic mani/pedi and the pedi was very basic. They advertise callous removal as part of the service but they only used scrub on the bottom of my foot for about 30 seconds each. Also, the service advertises an 8 minute massage but mine was 3 minutes max. Lastly, I had to ask for the extra skin that builds up around the edge of my nail on my big toes to be removed which has always been something that I expect as part of a pedicure. Also, I have seen people offered a glass of prosecco or a mimosa but I have never been offered anything in the several years I have been coming. Maybe I have to have more than a basic mani/pedi to be offered. read more

I have been to modern nails many times and they've done a lovely job. The last time was Mother's Day and it was a terrible manicure and pedicure. The polish didn't even cover the sides of the nail. I let it go because it happens. I just sent my teenage daughters (17 & 18) in as a treat. One asked for a French tip manicure and the other was a neutral coffin shape (pictures included). What came back, I have never seen before. When we went in to get it fixed, we were told that we picked the wrong color and we should've stopped her sooner, along with that the shape was a coffin shape (in my opinion, this was definitely not). The simple French tip manicure was also not a French tip nor correctly shaped, which was disappointing considering the simplicity of the ask. RESPONSE TO MANAGEMENT: So glad you were quick to respond to my recent review. I'm attaching some photos I quickly looked up on Pinterest. It seems like shorter nails don't affect French tip application, as all photos on the internet resemble the ones I am attaching now. Shape also should not be affected by length of the nail, as this has never been an occurrence previously. Furthermore, we had to pay to get the coffin nails adjusted, even though what was asked for was not provided. No refund or partial refund was given. My young daughters are not confrontational and did not want to offend when asking for adjustments, so I came in at a later time with them to assist. The initial requests should have been followed, and I'm disappointed that the response I got was simply excuses rather than fixes to the situation. read more

I really wanted to like this place but as soon as I got there at 10:30 AM there were no customers so I thought that I would be taken in, however I was told that the acrylics I wanted would require a special nail tech who would be there at 11:15. I walked around the plaza for about an hour and returned to the nail salon. They set me up with a lady who said she could do the nails that I wanted. It was nothing complicated, just a long coffin with black nail polish. The black nail polish was see-through so the nail base had to be clear. The lady that was doing my nails seemed like she was frazzled the whole time during shaping filing Etc., and then she started to build in the base with acrylic. It was an opaque nude base and it was looking pretty globby and chunky. She did three fingers and then a younger nail tech came up. They talked for a minute and they decided that they would switch. I was told that they were switching because the other nail tech didn't feel good. I saw her take another client right after and attempt the same coffin shaped nails. The new nail tech started using a clear base to build my other nails. I asked her if she could redo the three that the other lady did and she had to soak off the acrylic and redo those three nails. By this point I had been there for two hours. Thankfully the new lady doing my nails was really good and I nails came out pretty and what I wanted. However I was charged $75!! I was charged $10 extra for long nails and $5 extra for the nail polish I picked and $5 extra dollars for an unknown "extra charge". I think they charged me for the lady needing to soak off my 3 nails. Overall I think that they should've told me from the beginning if this was something that was going to be a struggle because I could've just gone somewhere else and spent less money and been happier and wasted a lot less time. I will not be coming back unfortunately however the girl who ended up doing my nails in the end did a good job. It was just not handled right. I shouldn't have had to pay that much!! read more

I have been here a couple of times, the first visit was great, the second gave me mixed feelings. The initial reason why I chose this place was because they had on their website that they use sterilized tools with all clients, however, when I came in with polish on my toes from my previous visit, they used the nail drill to remove it and it looked used. I know nail bits can be harder to sterilize between people but that was such a turn off for me. Needless to say I will be removing my own polish at home. Another thing is that the receptionist there that day was not very friendly. I don't care much about that as long as the service is good but I know some people might care more than I do. Even with everything said, I will come back, it's reasonably priced and they do a good job. read more

Came here for my birthday since I got a 10% off coupon from the last time I went. I brought my mother as well to treat her, since she traveled from NJ to celebrate my recent engagement. Through the process my mom was texting me that her nail tec was rude and very unfriendly, but at least her nails lasted. I received a dip manicure and the processes was legitimately painful. The gentleman was friendly, but way too rough with the nail buffer. I even pulled my hand away several times until he finally got the hint. My long beautiful nails got scuffed down to nothing. Literally the next day on my way to Costa Rica to celebrate my brand new engagement my nails began to chip. There policy says no refunds and you have to go back within 72 hours to fix your nails. Clearly, I was in another country so could not go there. Tried to dispute for at least my dip manicure to get refunded as my mom had no problem. I will never step foot in that place again. Please rethink before going in. read more

My bestie and I have been getting our nails done somewhere else won't mention but Modern nails is the place we went today and I'm so in love and my bestie too we are so impressed with how this lady paid attention to detail in my nails I'm male and I love getting my nails done but I have a problem with nail salon making them too wide and giving me a big nail. Modern nails did so good on making me feel good about my nails and hands to the shape and color it's just what I wanted. The good: my pedicure was perfect. Nails trimmed well, nail polish looks great and hasn't chipped, and the whole experience was lovely. The bad: I had my gel manicure removed (which I had done at this salon a few weeks ago) and opted for regular nail polish because I didn't want to deal with having gel removed again. I'm not sure if it was because the appointment was later in the evening, but my manicurist seemed rushed and annoyed. My nails were unevenly filed and my polish was streaky. She didn't give me a top coat or that drying spray, just sat me under the dryer, and left the salon. No one told me how long I should wait so after about 20mins, I decided to get up and pay. My fault (but how was I supposed to know) when my nail polish fully slipped off my nails and they had to be redone. The manicurist who took over was even surprised at how poorly my nails had been filed + painted. I was given a UV dryer to help speed up the drying process the 2nd time which definitely helped. But, today (appointment was yesterday) my nail polish is already chipping and one nail has fully split even though my nails are naturally strong and healthy. I appreciate that the salon allowed me to get my nails fixed, but the first manicurist should have done a better job to begin with and I should have been given a UV dryer since the polish color I chose was apparently thick. Not sure why the salon would carry a nail polish if it's too thick to apply? I've been here a few times with okay results, but I think I'll just stick to pedicures in the future. read more

Edit: the customer service is really great and they definitely want you to love what your nails look like. They redid my nails with a different color again and I'm hoping this one last longer than 1-2 weeks this time. Edit: I'm pretty annoyed with the quality at this point. Within the first week my thumb and my index finger were chipped. I went back to get them fixed and it was an easy fix and I appreciate them fixing it. 2 days later my other finger is chipping. So the gel doesn't even last one week, when it usually last 3 weeks for me. Maybe it's the color I picked but I'm super disappointed. I really like this salon. It's very big and spaced out. I've worked with several, more senior specialists over the years, and they've all been great, friendly aestheticians. I've also had great service booking by phone or online. That said, I'm pretty sure I just had my last appointment, and the reasons have nothing to do with the quality of the service (hence why I'm still giving 5 stars). The reasons are more about how the business is run: 1. High Turnover. It's not a good sign that these facilities run through aestheticians. If you find someone you like and trust, it's highly likely that person will leave within about 2 years. Find another person, same thing. Rinse and repeat. 2. Treatment of Women. For this to be a place that primarily serves women, I've continued to hear about European Wax Center's less-than-ideal arrangements for female staff. No maternity leave? No flexible work schedules for new moms? I'll take my business elsewhere for the time being, but I do hope the owners/managers of these locations will take this feedback to heart and make some improvements.
