Big problem with these guys. I had my toyota truck engine replaced by them long ago and thought it was a safe bet to have them replace the engine on my car, even though I live almost 60 miles away. There was an overheating problem on the lightly leaking engine of my Camry. I had the engine replaced with a re-built (they rebuilt my engine) , I paid for the extended 50k warranty, and the engine continued to overheat. Because of distance, i was not able to bring it in over and over again, but for only about three times. On the last evening my wife and I drove down there to pick it up and took it on the freeway to get back home. I was so happy to finally have it fixed (they said they fixed it...again), but still felt a little insecure on the drive. Sure enough, the car started overheating again and I had to pull over several times to let it cool. I made a phone call to the boss the next day. The phone call to the boss was most unpleasant and he told ME THEY DON'T COVER OVERHEATING PROBLEMS. I told him I was going to bring it down ONE MORE time and ask that they check a certain head gasket position. He balked, but offered only tacit consent. The way down to Glendale that September day was treacherous in West LA traffic and I had to pull over so many times with my heater turned on full blast. I made it...and pleaded with them to fix the darn problem...we really needed that car and we paid so much money that we had no more. My wife came down there to pick me up and bring me home. Okay... No more way of going down there to pick it up. No money to tow it back. They put it in storage and after a month I was liable for a huge bill..again. We were still tapped. This is a crap company with crap customer service I would never recommend them to anyone. I got my engine replaced in my Mini Cooper in January and in August the car started exhausting white smoke, all maintenance had been kept on the car on time. When I brought it to them they wanted me to pay to fix the radiator just to see IF that was the problem because they didn't know. Then they wanted to tell me that my warranty wasn't covered because it was a head gasket (which is a part of the engine) and lastly they told me that they didn't have any of my information in their computers because their system has crashed. I had my egine rebuilt here Of which they told me would take a week, it took 2 weeks and when I gOt the car back the horn wasnt working, it was shaking like a tree in a storm, had an oil leak, motormounts were broken and the acted like they were surprised. They new they screwed it up and thought they were dealing with some rookey. Rohaund is the most crafty, slick. Dishonest person you could ever deal with. They do not what so ever take responsibility for their screw ups! If you are an individual coming to Modern Engine for a possible engine or transmission job there is something important you need to keep in mind. They are a huge rebuilding/ overhaul shop, they deal mostly with mechanics and dealerships and therefore going there as an individual with little knowledge of automobiles can be a frustrating experience. It was for me. Personalized customer care is simply rough around the edges here. However, their work is excellent, they do what they say they are going to do, and they they will rebuild your engine / repair a head gasket failure faster than any shop and do the job thoroughly and correctly. Also, since you are dealing directly with the rebuilder, their prices are extremely competitive. I highly recommend Modern Engine, but recommend you go there with somebody experienced in auto repair. read more

I brought my vehicle into modern engine last Tuesday because my car was making a weird loud noise, I had such a long and stressful day this problem was giving me such a headache the last thing I wanted to do was go wait for hours while I was assisted. The customer service rep over at modern engine was actually very helpful and very nice and assured me my vehicle would be In good hands. Honestly these guys deserve shit rating! Not even one star. I Take in my truck to have it checked out to see if the warranty will cover the issue with the engine. My number 1 and 5 cylinder have low compression and I took it in for diagnostics to see what needs to be done and hopefully covered. I left it on a Wednesday and waited for a call and nothing. Gave them another week to see hopefully they were able to diagnose the real issue with the engine and yet nothing , no phone call. I finally decided to call them Wednesday 6-6-18 and I was hoping for some answers but all I got was a stupid reply asking me if I have received a phone call yet and to tell me that it took them 2 WEEKS!!! Just to see that there is cross contamination in the engine with coolant and oil. That the engine has been overheated and it's caused coolant and oil to mix. First of all my engine never overheated, I was able to take my truck on a road trip out to Arizona and back without it overheating And the guy still has the audacity to tell me well your engine must of overheated sometime. Motherfucker I've been using the truck since I had my engine rebuilt with you assholes and never once it overheated . Bunch of bullshit because these crooks took nothing apart nor bothered to call me to see if I wanted to go ahead with further inspecting to properly check. I've worked on cars and been around cars my whole life. Ive checked my oil and oil is clean , free of sludge. The writer asks me when was the last time I did my oil change and I told him 3 months ago and he stayed quite not knowing what to say. Of course because the oil is clean , so i don't know where in their dumbass minds did they get that the coolant and oil mixed. Stupid fucks trying to scam anyone they can so they can save their ass from honoring the warranty. Stupid fucks , the Automotive bureau would be hearing about this. Hopefully something gets done. I was suprised to see the negative feedback on Modern Engine...def not the case for me :) I've had numerous bad experiences with mechanics through the years. I have an old honda civic that has given me significant problems in the past...So, as you know, its hard to find honest mechanics that will deliver on time for a price thats actually "AFFORDABLE". I landed upon Modern Engine by surprise as I was hearing awkward noises coming from my engine and I happen to be in the glendale area. Glad my car made it there! I was already having a bad day but the girls working in the front were SUPER nice! They were very comforting and told me that everything will be OK. They even offered to drop me off at my home since I didn't have a car. Modern Engine ended up replacing my engine for an amazing price and my car was ready in just a couple of days. DO NOT buy a warranty or bring your car to Modern Engine. Rip off alert! I purchased an after market warranty through this company when I bought my 2006 Subaru STI. The first time I brought my car to them to have the engine rebuilt my car came back to me missing bolts, parts, and left in overall poor condition. After them "repairing" my car for three months, the "new" long block they put in my car failed within the first week of getting my car back. I made the mistake of bringing my car back to them. It took them 11 months! That's right.. it almost took them an entire year to put in another used long block for my engine. Every time I would call they had some excuse of the engine mechanic is out or we can't find the parts. I sent the several lists with over 10 places each time on where they could find these parts. HORRIBLE experience's with them. Do not make the same mistake and do business with Modern Engine. read more

This place is a joke. They have no clue about motor repair and I'm really surprised that they are still in business. They have rebuilt the Diesel motor on my truck and charged me over $3500 plus I had to pay my mechanic $2000 to take it out and put it back in. First I was quoted $2900 for the engine then upon pickup the price jumped to $3500. They only provided 90 day warranty. Engine was installed on my truck on week after the repair and right after 150 miles or so the same knocking sound reappeared. I called Vahan (what a nightmare) and he told me to bring the motor back and we'll look at it. I asked my mechanic and he said that he will charge me another $2000 for take out and replace. Now I'm out of $5500 and no truck. I'm back to where I was before the repair. I don't have the money to pay for another engine take off. I asked Vahan if they are willing to pay for the labor or even half of it since it's not my fault that the engine failed. He simply refused to take care of me and after a long argument he hang up the phone one me. Shame on these guys. I'm going to talk bad about these guys everywhere I go and I will be posting bunch of bad reviews all over the net. This is not the correct way to take care of any customer. read more

I came in to get a valve job. My head had a tiny hairline crack it still passed the pressure test but i didnt feel safe with it. i brought in a different core and they were more than happy to get me a new valve job done on the new core for free. All within a timely manner. Honestly a great experience overall. I definitely would recommend them to any one looking to get engine work done. They did a great job and helped out even though they did not have too. Amazing place and amazing customer service. Also great affordable prices!! Thank you guys for the amazing service!! read more

STAY AWAY!! They do terrible, shabby work and are customer service is non-existent. My mechanic (who I also dropped) took my truck here to get the engine and transmission rebuilt. It was supposed to be a two week job about. Cut to 10 weeks later I finally had it! Boy thanks! They have more excuses than answers. I also think they used it to make runs before they did work. I ended up getting parking tickets in Glendale that they never took care of, even after they said they would. I only found out when I renewed my CA registration. And now, not even 10 months later my engine is shot! Took it to two friends places and both said engine needs to be rebuilt, and can't believe it's not even a year. AND, it never ever ever ran right after I got it back. Took it to my (not presently) mechanic and he could not ever get it right either. It would stall out, and just not run right at all. They are terrible, and I wouldn't send my enemies to get their vehicle ruined by this hacks! read more

I bought a warranty from the dealer where modern engine gave me a diagnostic altered to not cover the cost of the repair. one month before the engine oil change and filter, a day before a mechanic I check and the level was correctly reason so take it for a noise was heard and sometimes that was gradually losing force to accelerate. they wanted to charge me for the review and for putting $ 118 dollars oil which after a day and a half had not any diagnosis, I had to call them several times for a response. and the only thing they said is that I had to pay that amount in order to give me a diagnosis. finally understood that I'm paying my warranty, when I arrived I say that has 3 oil leaks and three quarters it was lost when I said it was impossible, I was told that I can not handle well and I would put 3 quarts of oil therefore confused and I said yes. my car started to shake and just drive it to my house the next day returned to shake and a mechanic told me that I had excess oil and can damage the motor, I had to immediately do an oil change. then I had to take it with five different mechanic to make sure that there were no leaks and I washed the engine and I could throw confirm that modern engine oil around the Engine.2 months ago that happened and no leaks, the problem of noise and the weakness was due to the transmission computer. which my warranty covered, but modern engine lied, I'm making a consumer complaint and hopefully help me, I spend time and money so I can find the truth of the repair of my car. read more

Stay away from this place! I had my engine rebuilt for my '88 Toyota Pickup truck in June 2010 and a year later smoke was coming out of my exhaust. I took it back for warranty service. NO ONE ever followed -up with me by phone to keep me posted on the status of my vehicle and when I would get it back. I had to keep calling them and they kept saying "maybe by next day or week's end". It was one excuse after another and they did not appear to care at all how this was impacting me with transportation needs. They did cover my cost of a rental car for one week, I'll give them that but it took 2 weeks for me to finally get my truck back and they lost the gas-cap. "That's not the worst!" Less than a week after getting my vehicle back my engine began over-heating regularly. I was not willing to go back and wait another same length of time so I went to my regular mechanic who said "this is the most shoddy looking workmanship I've ever seen"! He said the over-heating was due to the head-gasket not being installed correctly (not blown or damaged, just not secured correctly). There were also several bolts not tightened securely AND he said my radiator was damaged! I took these guys to court and won for all the cost of my mechanic's expenses except the radiator. They even denied receiving any materials from the Bureau of Automotive Repair after I made a complaint with them first which I will never buy! I believe anyone who's posted a good review of them here has yet to discover the truth about them. read more

WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! TRUE STORY! We got an estimate over the phone for an engine replacement on our family van. When they got the van and had the engine they then called to add over 900.00 more! What are you to do when they say they will not warranty the work UNLESS you replace added items! The FIRST TIME the van was returned the carpet in the van as well as the upholstery was filthy! Full of GREASE & DIRT! The driver's side door panel was all jacked up as well. The Cruise control was never hooked back up and the AC was going off and on! After about 6-8 weeks the van developed a loud knocking noise. I took it to an independent mechanic that diagnosed the problem so that Modern Engine could not say we did anything wrong. SO THE 2ND TIME I TOOK IT BACK they assured me they replaced the necessary parts! We got it back and it was idling high & now the AC was not working at all. So we drove back 2 weeks later and 2 blocks away as i was following my wife i see smoke & FLAMES coming out of the van! She stops at the light as people are flagging her down and is screaming thinking the van will blow up! I had a fire extinguisher and thank God was able to put the fire out! THE 3RD TIME they said they replaced the whole engine again!!!! It came back to us STINKING FILTHY, FILTHY FILTHY!!!!! We took good money 2800.00 for a NEW REBUILT engine and was the worst experience of our lives! We bought a new car the week before because my wife would not get in that van again as she did not TRUST the work done by Modern Engine!! I took the filthy van that they basically ruined to a car detailer to clean the carpet and the rest of the interior. I sold the van and i PRAY the new owner of the van does not have any issues,,,BUT I doubt it...I gave them the Modern Engine paperwork which is worthless IMHO! TRUE STORY STAY AWAY!! read more

WORST PLACE//// STAY AWAY was stuck to use this shop due to a extended warranty i purchased with my car. this place will lie to your face and if you dont know any about cars you will have your car fvcked up and will loose everything if you dont take them to court after they try to work on it. Each time they said they would call and update (which went on for a good month) they would never return calls. Every time i would call to see what else was wrong with the car that they tried to fix i got the same lame answer that they were still testing it or they found a different problem which had nothing to do with the original problem of the car. After 2 weeks of waiting and being bullshitted by them i scheduled to pick my own car up and did and drove it back to work to find transmission fluid dripping from under the car and also a few hundred dollar aftermarket part i had on the car disappeared somehow and but was lucky to get it back before they were able to sell it for profit. oh did i mention a sheared engine mount bolt and snapped hood latch which they denied that they broke (more bullshit). You get the point...like wheres the customer service?? well after i had it towed back the DAY AFTER i picked it up repeat what happened above for another 2-3 weeks. Extremely strenuous while working a full time job....you will be pulling your hair out. more problems that they didnt fix properly the first time its now going back i told them to put a new transmission in to save their time and mine but NO....i guess helping ordinary people like themselves is not what they do. I guess I'm the one to teach them a lesson. I took my car their back in January still not fixed after 2,700.00. I've filed a small claim with hopes to shut this operation down. Possibly file criminal charges. I have all sorts of used parts that they claim they took off car. They think they are slick after they got my money I had to call them. I filed a case with the BAR not sure what happened. They never telling you anything, Modern Engine has more rights then we do. He had BBB on his ad now he has taken off. I'm going for getting my car back and $7.500. not sure what they've done to my Supra! Looks like they know what they're doing if you look at they're ad. They just use the ad to get peoples cars to Glendale to fuck them with no grease. I'm going to make every effort to put them out of business or have the judge order them not to advertise again. They don't realize some people have more time then money. I'm one of them. Plus I have good records. I'm doing research right now. i wish I had did this at first. read more

Modern Engine has been very helpful throughout every complication with my Nissan pathfinder 2005. My motor was pretty bad! They were willing to help and sure enough they did what they could and had my car up and running like new! They have a terrific staff! Great customer service! If there was a choice of no star I would have picked that. I never had work done there and will never have it done. I bought a used truck at a dealership and had bought a extended warranty with it. I had some trouble with a misfire and hesitation 5 weeks later. Before I took my truck to a dealer near me for repairs I called them to see how the warranty worked. They said you have to bring it to us. I live in Lake Elsinore there was no way I was going to Glendale for repairs. I had to argue with them about the policy saying it was worth nothing to me if I have to go 75 miles away for a repair. There response was we have free towing for 80 miles. OK so lets just say I go 1000 miles away and break down thats one large tow bill to take it to them. After three phone call I finnaly got them to email me a cancelation form so I could cancel it. That was a week ago and have not heard from them since I sent it back. This is going to be a long battle to get the $2,220.00 dollars back that they owe me now. The money is suppose to go to the finance Co. as they are the ones who funded the loan so I am not trying to pocket the money since I had to pay $2100.00 to get the truck fixed. The loan Co is taking the amount off the end of the loan so I just pay it off faster. Point here is they were very rude and hard to deal with. They dont understand or care that towing a vehicle to them just adds days to the repair. Then if they decide it is not warranty I get stuck with paying the tow bill and having it repaired by them or paying to have it towed again.
