I met Fred on the phone the Thursday before he was going to take a week's vacation. He was pretty jammed up until then but he said that he would take look at my car first thing on Monday when he got back. That next Monday I arrived 15 minutes early to find a person already in front of me. Fred, true to his word told the guy 'hey I said I'd take this guy (me) first thing' and that's just what he did. Integrity fully achieved! He immediately went to work diagnosing my issues. He ran my Cadillac up Ramps and rolled under with an auto stethoscope. He then had a general sense of the few things that could be wrong and we discussed our plan of action and scheduled the repair for that Thursday. Sure enough when Thursday came I dropped off the Caddy there and hopped on the bus to the Glendale Galleria. A few hours later I was eating away at the lunch buffet when he called and had already ordered the parts and finished the job! A master mechanic to be sure. It's been a few weeks now and the car is still performing magnificently! Super kudos to Fred! I can recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone with car troubles. I really appreciated how efficient Fred was (especially just before Thanksgiving) and how upfront he was about the cost. Fred is amazing. He has this old school honest, respectable flare about him. His vibes are genuine, which is incorporated with his work and prices. I got an oil change from him with competitive pricing, but the reason why he has one up amongst chains or other places, is because, he was the only one that told me my indicator to notify that I needed an oils change was turned off. He turned it on for me and explained other car things with me. He even backed my car out onto the street, because I was having a hard time to do so. He is the best. Forget chains. Took the car here suspecting a bad LEFT front wheel bearing. Diagnosis came back that the RIGHT one was noisier but with the recommendation to replace both. Took the car back, lifted the front and rotated both wheels - the LEFT side was the only one making the noise I had complained about. Replace the LEFT bearing and hub myself - car is fine now! Had I replaced the incorrectly diagnosed RIGHT side then I would still have the problem and I would probably have been told that I needed both which I did not! I read all the glowing reviews and the owner is very nice but I don't need or want to pay for preventive maintenance - just want the present problem fixed! Fred did an astonishing work of art in putting together those pain in the ass exhaust pipes which has a different diameter. It went well as expected. From seeing the shop, everything is in order. He is very affordable compared to other shops I've been and his work, outstanding; he will actually go above and beyond to satisfy a customer out of courtiousness. I had AC compressor leak on my jeep and muffler update. He did my job in timely manner without any delays. I was in and out in a day. E even took care of my tail light that was out without charging me. I'm a very satisfied customer. These guys were truly amazing. I went in and mentioned to him that my car was making an odd nice when I made sharp turns. He told me that he would check it out and that he would give me an estimate. About 15 minutes later, indeed, I had a broken axle. He also suggested I change my spark plugs. I decided to just have one service done & do the other service later on. He totally respected that and didn't make me feel pressured. The job took about 2 hours & was done at the time that he told me my car would be ready. I would say call before you plan to take your car & make sure he can see you. I felt the honestly coming from these guys & I feel like I can trust them. My mechanic Laureano at Westdale Auto next door to this place recommended me to this guy. Probably due to proximity and that he uses the guy's spring compression tool every once in a while when he needs it. I don't think he knows about his business practices though. The slightly aging balding guy seems friendly. Smiles. He has a saying that the best he can do is make the customer at least a little happy. I guess he is trying to say he can't please everyone but isn't using the same phrase. What he did was quote me a price but told me I was getting a Flowmaster. He didn't check price. After getting the car up on the lift and cutting off the bolt on end of the exhaust pipe, he called to check availability. He then quoted me a much higher price. I told him I couldn't afford it and he said I could get a Magnaflow. He said it was not as good as first to get me to pay for the more expensive Flowmaster but then after I told him I didn't have that money her said the Magnaflow was okay. To me my Magnaflow seems louder and not as powerful with more backpressure restriction than if I would have gotten a Flowmaster. He even got me a smaller muffler claiming the one the manufacturer said I should have gotten wouldn't fit under the car! BS!!! It was cheaper and he got me the smaller one to increase his profit margin. Had he told me I would have told him I wouldn't mind paying the extra $10-$15 to get the longer one by 4" because it would be quieter. For people in the future, get your muffler guy to tell you the model number and to check with the manufacturer as to what should be on your vehicle. I was stuck because my car was in an accident and I had no option but to get a muffler on my car, so I just had to swallow the lower quality incorrectly sized muffler. Generally it's about right, close enough, but I don't want close enough. I want exact as to what the makers of the muffler recommends. So ask model numbers. It's key to getting your money's worth and not getting cheated out of what you really want. He did the job right though. Welding looked right. Welded the hangers on right, etc. Just not happy with the way he trapped me and misled me by not letting me know exactly what he was doing. Shady that way. But at least he didn't rip me out of hundreds of dollars. But as pinching pennies go, he's not the one to go to. He's only average as best. I would shop around next time more too instead of trusting just one referral. He's generally fine. His demeanor is okay. His shop humms of working. It's quality work, your muffler won't fall off, but I expect more. I just feel tricked and used is all. I took my 2001 Toyota Camry to Fred for two years before buying my new car and he always took care of me and got me back on the road! Fred: This guy is one of those salt of the earth sort of people - takes pride in his work, doesn't overcharge or try to take advantage when your car is on the fritz, looks for ways to help you stave off future issues. Just an overall great guy! Convenience: I worked at the Disney Glendale campus and his shop was just a mile and a half away. I would take my car to him in the morning, he or one of his staff would bring me back to work and then they would pick me up once the car was ready. So, so easy to keep my car in order despite a busy schedule at work. His work: Never had a second problem with anything he fixed. My car was running better than ever after a few months under Fred's care (which is amazing given that my dad had neglected maintenance on the car for almost 5 years before I began using it).
