My car was towed here after I got a warning light about the SRS needing to be checked. Even thought the lot looked full and busy, a gentleman stopped to help me, and I told him how I had gotten a warning light immediately after a once-in-a-lifetime car detailing. He pulled my car in, dialed it into a sort of diagnostic-ipad gizmo, and then told me that he was unable to reset the light because the sensors had gotten messed up, and he put his hand on the passenger seat and said that the seat was soaked and that whoever had done my detailing had put way too much water on my seats and damaged the sensor. He told me that he'd seen this before and there was a possibility that if I left my car to dry in the sun, the sensor would dry out within a couple days; otherwise, it would need replacing and was expensive, and the parts were hard to find. I really appreciate his candor, and within a day or so, the sensor did seem to dry out, and after a reset of the car seat, the hazard lights went off. I had told him I would come back if the sensors didn't dry out, but as they did, I didn't have to. I appreciate that he took the time to run the diagnostic and explain what had happened without any charge. read more

Hi- I recently relocated from Tarzana and all my car services were local. Since moving to Silverlake I was not familiar with any maintenance-repair service center for my Lexus Rx 350-2008- I had gone to the dealership for some work and although they were very nice I knew as a senior citizen I couldn't afford future repairs. ( By the way she passed and got here license. ) Anyways after we dropped her off the car wouldn't start so we called aaa and they towed us to Advance Auto Repair which just happened to be the next block over From were she was taking her test.After waiting for the shop to open we met Vic the owner, what a nice guy he offered us coffee and soda what ever we wanted. HONEST AND TRUSTWORTHY: I am always a little suspicious of mechanics because of past experiences and the fact that I do not know that much about cars. It makes me a prime candidate to get the highest price or ripped off... Well anyway I was referred to VIC by a friend who said he was a great mechanic and a great guy. So I took my AUDI A3 in that I had just purchased 3 months prior after some lagging acceleration issues. I'm definitely assuming the worst and hoping for the best at this point, knowing that these European cars are a lot more expensive. I was at Vic's before for an oil change and there seemed to be a lot of nice cars there, which I liked because it seemed that other people trusted him. So then VIC proceeded to do a diagnostic on my car while I patiently awaited my fate at the Starbucks across the street. And then the phone rang! It was VIC... I picked up and he started explaining the things that were wrong with my car and that they needed to be fixed. They were all technical things with the pump or something so I had no idea what he was talking about. My mind was racing with numbers of the cost I thought it would be and the agony was setting in.... After I decided my world was a dark pit of car costs he told me not to worry because everything was going to be free. FREE!!!!!????? I was confused... Well Vic had a hunch that there was some sort of recall on my AUDI and started investigating. Not only did he do a diagnostic on my car and figure out what was wrong but he also took the time to see if there was a recall so I wouldn't have to pay for it.... There was a recall! He had already called the AUDI Service Station to see if they had time to work on my car the next day... I'm pretty sure any other mechanic would find out what is wrong and then fix it and then charge me a stupid amount... VIC figured out the problem and could have charged me to fix it but instead sent me to have it done for free by AUDI because of the recall... That it was you call HONEST!!!! My 2009 Honda Fit's engine was consistently misfiring and Kevin took the time to check all of the valves and assess what was wrong before concluding that I needed new ignition coils. Seems like every mechanic around here has 5 stars so I was kind of expecting it not to mean much. Took my Toyota in late on a Friday for engine bearing/belt noise. Kevin immediately--and correctly--diagnosed a failing water pump with a mechanic's stethoscope and mirror. Went back the next day to have it replaced, for $100 cheaper than any other mechanic would've done it and $300 cheaper than a dealer would have. Price isn't paramount though. 5 stars because: guys are courteous, job took under 2 hours, Kevin voluntarily showed me the old part/new part box (part was OEM), told me I should probably grab a new battery soon (not from him) because the engine had a little trouble turning over, didn't ask me to write a Yelp review, took credit (no fee), all on a weekend. Answered all my questions to his best knowledge and quoted me a price of $175 and the final charge was $169 for parts and labor. He didn't try to "sell" me on extra unnecessary fixes or repairs. He did exactly what he said he would which was to replace the transmission fluid in my car. Reasonably priced. Aamco was charging me $450 for the same service. Exceptional service and I would definitely come back again if I need other repairs or oil changes in my car. Kevin was honest and upfront about everything. My 2001 Nissan Pathfinder broke down due to what I believed was an issue with my fuel pump or distributor. Contacted Vic at AAR and was able to have my car towed in and to my delight, received service immediately. Within 30 minutes of their diagnostics, Vic and team were able to determine the source of my problems -a security protocol that locked-down my car preventing me front starting the vehicle. He provided a clear explanation and reset my security system. **Important: if you have a spare key, it may not include the security microchip that will allow you to start your car and in my case this "valet" key may lock-down your car all together. If you lose your microchipped key you will need to have it replaced by the dealer. Whoops! In short, AAR are trustworthy and expert. Go to them with all your auto needs. read more
