Outstanding service. Communicates well. Very organized and best price in town. I've recommended to family and friends

They rebuilt transmission on my 2002 Acura RL3.5 at reasonable price. Could not have been nicer.

I had a rather difficult Transmission repair, Thankfully I was working with BAHA at Sunset Transmission. There were significant problems after the first rebuild--but BAHA stood by his warranty. The transmission required a second rebuild but again Baha stood behind his warranty. I strongly recommend Sunset Transmission read more

Good lord in heaven. These boys saved me a nightmare of a time at ford. I truly can't express how grateful I am for this shop. Ford quoted me 4k for a simple clutch replacement. These guys hooked me up and honestly did a way better job than ford would've and pointed out something ford missed that also needed to be fixed. Amazing service was done in 2 days and ford said a week at best. These guys are honest, straightforward, and competent. They gave me a quote without me even asking for it. Everything is on the level and they are truly my go to guys now!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Immaculate service! Baha and his crew are kind, honest, hard working, and professional. I called them to ask about a quote for my 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck, needed to have the motor mounts and transmission mount replaced. They gave me a reasonable estimate and said they'd be open at 7:30 am and the work would take half a day. Called me at 2pm same day to confirm the work was completed. Took my truck for a cruise and she was running like new again as if she had first come off the factory line. Thank you Baha and the mechanics at Sunset Transmission! Would highly recommend everyone get their transmission serviced here. read more

It's been about a week since I got my car back from Sunset Transmission, and -- because of past bad experiences with mechanics and cars -- I am still anxious about the repairs failing on me! But so far, Baha's work has proven to be exceptional. Crossing fingers! And I will definitely keep updating this, as I go, in order to provide y'all more context ... BUT FOR NOW, I want to tell whoever is reading this, my personal experience with Baha was great! He's knowledgeable, funny, fair, patient, and empathetic. My Mitsubishi Montero (a wonderful, but rare car) faced transmission failure, so after several phone conversations with Baha, I towed it to his shop, told him it had an extended warranty. He immediately recognized the warranty company, told me to be patient while he investigated the issue. Over the next two weeks, he was kind and patient with me, he kept me informed and reassured me when necessary, while he did his best to diagnose and rebuild the transmission. Then I got the call that my car was ready, and when I arrived to pick up my car, Baha showed me what he did, all my old parts, then reminded me of his 12-month warranty, and said, "Don't worry, we're not a scam, I've been doing this for 40 years, we are good at what we do! And if something goes wrong, bring it back and I'll look at it! I'll be here!" I told him I hope only to come back to buy him tacos for lunch! He's like a good uncle. If you have transmission issues, these are one of the good guys! Will update with more! Hopefully it's just about tacos ... read more

I was referred to Baha from my mechanic who told me that he was the best at what he does, and will tell you straight up what you need. I brought in my friend's Saab 9-5 2011 which had a transmission service light on and could not shift out of first gear. Baha quickly addressed the problem and told me that it was an electrical issue and not necessarily a transmission issue, and that to fix it is not worth it. That in itself, saved me thousands of dollars, because I was actually planning on buying the vehicle! I appreciate the honesty and quick diagnosis. I know I found my transmission guy now! read more

This place is amazing!! Baha took my car in the day after Thanksgiving with no hesitation and gave it back within the same day. His communication is very good and the prices are even better. I took my Mazda 3 in for a TCM replacement and they treated my car with love and care. Recommending this place to everyone! read more

Baha, I don't know where to begin. I came in after finding out a car I just bought did NOT actually pass smog (was fudged) and that the transmissions torqueconverter and evap canister (and solenoid something?) needed to be replaced. I was so nervous to find out what I had to pay, as I had been advised an "over $600, but under $2k" estimate for a 2005 Corolla I just spent $5.1k on. Sellers market, I know what you're already thinking lol. Baha was so incredibly patient and kind when explaining my options, and very obviously SUPER knowledgeable on this particular issue. He was describing issues with the car I had not even mentioned to the previous mechanic I saw or anyone - *without even looking at the car, only the code review sheet!!* I came in scared I was going to be either $5k down the drain, or $7k if I kept and repaired the car, and left without needing to spend a dime. He advised me on what he would personally do in this situation (which I will let him explain to you if you're in this position ) and I was so relieved I literally cried in the parking lot and felt so bad I had no cash on me to tip. I want so badly to give him my business in the future because his advice saved me literally thousands in mechanical repairs and therapy from the potential stress! Lol Thank you so much Baha, I don't know what else to say except that I will give u all the business possible in the future and even included your name on Jacks Lube, the mechanic I went to (who is great too!) so hopefully everyone else can experience the same amazing customer service between these two that I did. Best, The girl in the Hello Kitty mask who spent 5 minutes trying to get out of the parking lot. (Ps - don't buy any cars from an alex on mchenry) read more

Really great guys that are honest and helpful. They finished the car right on time and gave me their recommendation on future work needed!

Had an A+ experience at Sunset Transmission with Baha. My car was having transmission issues, which I had never had before, and Baha carefully explained to me possible issues that could be happening with the car. He meticulously diagnosed the car, ruling out mechanical issues, before determining it was a computer issue. Then he was able to source a hard-to-find BMW transmission control which solved the issue. He saved me a few thousand dollars compared to the dealership! He also called me daily with updates and was very responsive via phone/text. Will always recommend Baha for transmission issues. Thank you! read more

A+ quality. They specialize in transmission, but I came for check engine light. Baha assessed and fixed what was wrong, and he did it all for free and same day. I think that's what good businesses do: ease you of your problems. So come here for honest service. He's kind and will truly take care of you. read more

Honest mechanic shop. I called about a transmission problem on my VW and before I could even finish describing the problem, the mechanic described the rest of it for me! He said its a known issue on my model of car and gave me a realistic estimate to replace the problem part. I will gladly bring my cars here for repairs. read more

I was referred to Baha and Sunset Transmission by my very trusted mechanic, and my experience was great from start to finish. I was able to get my car in right away to have the issue evaluated. Baha was very honest up front about the potential issues and the costs. I truly value when a business does what they say they're going to do. Every time he promised me a call with an update, he called me. I never had to follow back up. All the timelines were met. My problem was solved for what I found to be a very reasonable price and my car has been running great ever since. Of course, I hope I don't need transmission work any time soon, but I'll happily return to Sunset Transmission if I ever need to again! read more

Excellent! Experts on transmissions of both foreign and domestic cars. Honest! I went to them for my BMW instead of my normal mechanic because they know transmissions better than most places. They also do various maintenance repairs. Everything is priced very reasonably. I strongly recommend them! You don't want to take a chance on others who may not have the expertise and transmission-specific equipment. read more

Baha took my car in and saved it! After letting me store my car an extra day while I desperately tried to find a solution, Baha quickly found me a replacement transmission and had it fixed in 3 days. Thankful for his service. I'll go back if I ever have issues, not only because he does great work, but more so, because he's a great person. read more

Great service ! Rebuilt my transmission, a Ford F150. Meeting Baha, he comes off as a very trustworthy guy and takes pride in his work. Because I only lived a few miles away he had one of his workers give me ride home the day I dropped off my truck. It was ready a day earlier than the original completion date. Surprised to see they cleaned my truck too. And finally the estimate he gave me is what he charged me. No hidden costs. Great experience. Highly recommended. read more

Shoutout to Sunset Transmission for taking care of my car. I had my clutch for 160k miles on my Infiniti until it decided to stop shifting. Within 3 days I was back in business. Friendly, painless service. read more

Wonderful shop! Dropped my honda accord due to transmission jerking. It needed a complete overhaul. Baha is very communicative. He let me know what the problems and issues. They also keep the old parts to show you what has gone wrong. A week later i got the car back, the next day i saw something leaking. I called the shop and they said to bring it back. As soon as i got there, they opened a space for me to check the car right away. They honor their system as well as their customer. Highly recommend! read more

Do NOT bring your vintage car here. I had the WORST experience with this guy and his mechanics. They made SEVERAL mistakes which caused me to have to bring my car back into them after having to get it towed, RIGHT AFTER I PICKED IT UP. Brought it back in 3 times! The last time, they forgot to put a part back on. I ended up going to someone else. Also, the owner is rude af. Never again! read more

These guys are the absolute best! I made a last-minute appointment with them and they managed to squeeze me in - when I arrived first thing in the morning they greeted me with a smile + took my car out to test it. Each of the employees was incredibly nice - one checked in with me to make sure I'd been taken care of, another even offered me a fresh cup of coffee while I sat and waited! Eventually the first guy (who I believe was the owner) came back and talked with me - he was super clear and honest about my car and what we should do for the future with my transmission. Fast, easy and cheap! I drove away a very happy customer and I plan on going back with any transmission issues I might have in the future! Also, here's a picture of the dog's corner - there's some stupid review on here about "animal abuse" - the dog they own is a rescue and doesn't get along with other dogs. Sometimes he's outside"patrolling" his area, sometimes he's inside. As you can see, there is water, multiple toys, and a bed for him. And treats galore, which although not pictured, I'm sure are fed to him constantly by all the lovely employees! Please take your business here! I'll be recommending it to all my car-driving friends. read more

Sunset Transmission - Here's the "dog's corner" - plenty of treats, toys and bedding for their rescue pup! He is well taken care of! - Transmission Repair Near Me - Los Angeles, California

I was recommended Sunset Transmission due to my transmission fluid being a little discolored, and after my car started making some funny noises I finally decided to stop by. Baha was very friendly and listened to my concerns, and he took the car for a test drive to diagnose the problem. He was able to figure out what was going on, and reassured me by saying it wasn't a big deal and did not need immediate attention. He also was very kind in not charging me to check out the issue. He's a very honest and reliable guy, and I would definitely come back. read more

Beware, owner is rude and gives horrible service.Under new ownership. ---------------------------------------

Sunset Transmission is a GREAT shop. I took my mid-90s truck in early on a weekday for a general maintenance-type check and was greeted by the owner right away. He listened intently, showed me what the mechanic was doing, walked me through the results of the check, even offered me coffee while I waited. As there was no major work to be done, I was there for about 45 minutes total. This was my first visit to Sunset Transmission and was so impressed by the courteous service that I came straight home and registered a yelp account so I could spread the word! I've had some pretty terrible mechanic experiences--being a girl with a terrible old truck and very little knowledge about cars, but I completely trusted these guys and never once felt like I was getting the run-around. Five stars! read more

I brought my 2001 Acura MDX here on the recommendation of my regular mechanic, Craig at Ise automotive. The car has a hundred eighty five thousand miles on it and was sluggish to accelerate. Baja at Sunset Transmission couldn't have been any nicer. He test drove my car and explained that it is normal to replace the transmission on this model at least once or twice at this mileage. He said my car set the record for having no transmission rebuild ever done. I was all ready to pay him to rebuild my transmission for what I thought was a very fair price of $2500 with the AAA discount and a 2 year warranty. Instead, Baja suggeated checking the transmission fluid and recommended just changing it as he found metal shavings in it. He also turned off the airbag light that had been a nuisance. The fluid replacement only cost $62 with the AAA discount. Now I feel secure that I can continue to drive my MDX knowing that I can rebuild the transmission with this shop if I need to. Very clean, accurate, fast and honest. Highest recommendation. read more

After having read the 1 star review here, when these guys offered to diagnose my transmission-related dashboard light for FREE (quoted $90 elsewhere), I was skeptical. They told me the light was on do to a simple overheat, and said that while my transmission failure was "inevitable" (something I've been told before and know to be true ... my car is old now, and everything else has been replaced), they turned off the light and sent me on my way. For FREE! Can anyone say "W00t!?" When the day comes that I bow to the inevitable, they quoted me a total rebuild price that was $500 LOWER than my usual mechanic, Pinkie's. I will be back. read more

I got my car inspected by these guys using my AAA card. I had great expectations based on their reviews. They found a few things "wrong" with my car. The next day I took my car to the dealership (due to a recall), they inspected my car as well and didn't find anything wrong with it. I'd get a second opinion before you let these guys work on your car. read more

I came to Sunset Transmission based on Yelp reviews. When I came in my regular car to inspect the shop I was greeted by Jose. I have never seen such an organized and clean repair shop, one of the clues I look at when deciding to spend money on my boat. That boat is a 1969 Superior Coach hearse/ambulance combo, a delicious beast of a vehicle. I knew the transmission had likely never been serviced in its 80,000 original miles and certainly never in the fourteen years I'd driven it. When a rebuild was recommended, I bit the bullet and gave the go-ahead. The work was done quickly but subsequently, the vibration that had brought me into the shop was worse. A thorough exam by a group of mechanics led to a diagnosis of the drive shaft needing work. Ow, that hurt. I kept the car over the weekend, but decided to go ahead as I have been having many major items renovated and was in too deep to stop now. Mr. Kim quoted me a price and in a rare act of professionalism, absorbed costs when they ran higher than quoted from an outside shop. That is an investment in customer relations that will last a lifetime. We have two "real cars" and they will always go to Sunset Transmission. We took the hearse out for a road trip today and it has never, I mean never, ever, felt so smooth or given such a pleasurable ride. He also gives out the best chewing gum packets! read more

Can't say enough positive things about ST. I had some engine trouble one weekend. I had AAA tow my car to them. They looked at the car for free and told me what was wrong. The engine was broken to the point of none repair. I decided to sell the car for parts and ST let me keep my car there for two days (for free) before the parts company could tow it away. The owner was super nice and honest. The guys who helped me always had smiles on their face over the two days I visited them. Highly recommend this place. read more
