After my battery died completely, I got a "Transmission Failure, service immediately" sign, with my gears not going past gear 3. Taking it to the Ford Dealer, they told me I needed a new TCM, clutch and motor mount, charging over $6,000. I told them I would take my services elsewhere, and found Hollywood Transmissions. Charlie and Justin helped out immediately. Charlie took my car for a test drive with me in it, and after hooking up his computer to my car and rebooting my car CPU, the car was back running smoothly again. Apparently, the battery made the TCM buggy, and a simple reboot did the trick. Charlie did not charge me a penny! His honesty, as well as his knowledge in his field, is first-rate. After the fiasco that was the Ford Dealer, the people at Hollywood Transmissions put my faith back in people. I would recommend their services to anyone in a heartbeat. read more

A friend of mine from out of town ended up stranded in LA after their transmission gave out! I did some googling and found Hollywood and we reached out, and the owner and the staff were really honest and transparent, and worked with our budget to get my friend back on the road in about a week. So grateful for them! I called around to all the transmission shops in the area and these guys were reasonable and honest and did good work for a good rate - w a 1 year guarantee. Definitely would recommend read more

Hollywood Transmissions owner listens to you and gives the best scenario when fixing your vehicle. I'm so impressed with their work and time frame for completing the service. I'm so happy with my truck and will definitely refer him. The shop's team of technicians is top-notch, his prices are remarkably more than fair value, and he has a 1-year warranty guaranteeing on his work. Where else can you find this type of genuine service? Nowhere! So when you need transmission service, don't trust anyone but Hollywood Transmission. And believe me, your car when at this shop is in the best hands in this city, and the job will be completed correctly!  Thanks Hollywood Transmissions read more

Charlie & crew are incredibly skilled & offer great customer service. So happy I found a trustworthy mechanic in Los Angeles.

To start off, this shop is very efficient in their work I came in for a throw out bearing replacement thinking it was gonna take a few days and next thing you know I was in n out that same exact day a few hrs later. I definitely recommend this shop to anyone who needs transmission work done on their car. Charlie is a very honest man and will go above and beyond in explaining every problem in detail. I will definitely be coming back !!! read more

This is my very first Yelp Review.  Charlie Choi and Hollywood Transmissions, which is conveniently located for me right across from LA City College, Saved my 1991 Honda Civic Stationwagon.  I put my transmission repair problem out on Yelp for price quotes with a Lot of detail and specifics about the automatic transmission slipping from 2nd to 3rd, and whether the torque converter and internal filter replacement would be included.  Charlie Choi of Hollywood Transmissions responded quickly to my Yelp 'Project', as Yelp calls it, when you offer your repair to anyone for price quotes and questions, and addressed All my detailed concerns.  Yes, the Torque Converter and Internal Filter would be included and replaced as part of the same price quoted, he said.  Then over a couple of weeks I wrote follow up questions about warrantees and each was responded to overnight by Charlie.  A Lot of back and forth communication, and reassurance went on.  Finally, I called and said I would tow the car in the next day at our agreed upon price which I had already comparison shopped while we were communicating by text message over Yelp.  Communication, price, and convenient for me to get to location were the deciding factors. Especially Communication and willingness to understand and address my needs and questions.  Very good customer service! Before I brought the car in.  When I came in I explained that I bought the 1991 Honda Civic Stationwagon new and couldn't admfford to buy another used car and wanted to save it very much.  Charlie said 'Why not drive it forever!' which was music to my ears. I told him the left CV boot also needed to be repaired later on and he quoted me an excellent price for both front and rear axles, if I want in the future when I have the money.  Real good customer service and he really listens to your concerns and budget.  I would highly recommend Hollywood Transmissions to others. read more

Thought I had a leak in my transmission. They gave me a free diagnostic and found that it wasn't my transmission and told me the issue.

Charlie was as wonderful as most other reviewers have said. I took my truck down to road it probably shouldn't have been on and cracked my front differential and my transmission to boot. It was a big job but he gave me a very reasonable price and got it done quickly I was very impressed. Really nice guy. Highly recommend. read more

Absolutely recommend this place for honesty and quality. My 2013 Honda Accord was making loud whining noises. I took the car to the Honda dealer, who diagnosed the problem as a transmission. Took the car to Hollywood Transmissions. They spent 10 minutes with the car and diagnosed the real problem which is NOT the transmission. Did not charge me a dime! Forget the Honda service department. I absolutely recommend Hollywood Transmissions. They are are honest, competent, and just fantastic! read more

Most painless auto experience I have ever had. Charlie (or who I assume is Charlie) was the nicest guy. He was helpful and honest. Im glad I came here for my transmission issue. I definitely recommend this place! PS. The place is small, so it may be hard to find at first. read more

Came in to get a second opinion on my Audi's transmission and Charlie was very thorough with showing me my car's transmission error codes and explaining them to me. He did this all without charge, and gave me a quote much cheaper than what I was expecting. read more

Driving home one night, my transmission slipped a little and the dreaded "check engine" light came on. I took it by a shop that I normally go to and they took 2 minutes to tell me that the part needed to be replaced or the transmission rebuilt ($3,000? No thank you.) My car has been well-maintained, so I wanted to get a second opinion. I reached out via Yelp and chatted with the owner back and forth. He explained to me what my options were and what potential issues could exist. He was clear and concise, and best of all, he offered to take a look at it for free before suggesting solutions and repairs. I stopped by Hollywood Transmissions early on a Saturday morning and was seen quickly. The owner himself was there to assist me. He took a look at the error code (that had not been cleared by the previous shop) and active readings and told me he was going to reset the computer and to take it for a drive. Turns out the issue wasn't with my transmission, but something else entirely. I still want to leave a review because Hollywood Transmission deserves 5 stars for their communication, business ethic, and desire to help me above trying to make a quick profit. If my car had had transmission issues, Hollywood Transmission would have had my business. If you're having issues with your Transmission, reach out and see how they can get you taken care of. read more

Charlie Choi is honest and stands by his work. He rebuilt the transmission of my 1999 Jeep Cherokee and gave it a 1 year warranty. A month later I had a transmission fluid leak and he addressed it, no questions, no extra charge. The Jeep runs like a dream. The price was reasonable, but the reality is, no one gives a one year warranty on their work, except Hollywood Transmission. This place may not look like much but I put my money and trust in them more than any other places that are franchised. read more

Thanks for everything Charlie! He worked on my rav 4 and mercedes And did a really good job on both cars . read more

My car suddenly started making weird sounds and the check engine light came on, so I stopped by after my friend recommended me this place. Charlie was courteous and very honest about the problems. I've been to other repair shops before and it always felt like they were trying to get more of out me but he was very straight forward and the prices were within my budget. He was able to fix my car and I would recommend this place to anyone who has any car issues. I'll definitely be back if I have any other issues in the future. read more

Wow, one of my family car had a check engine light so we brought it over here because we had such a good experience last time and Charlie and his team did not disappoint. What's amazing was that he didn't charge me for the "check up" looking at the problem. It was a quick fix and the price was an honest price. I called around other shops and they were quoting me just to "check" the issues and I would have had to pay the repair. Hollywood Transmission is trustworthy and few of my family and friends are already loving Charlie and his crew. Thanks for your kind work! read more

I am so impressed with this shop! I called Hollywood Transmission when my car wouldn't shift into drive & was walked through how to fix it. I then brought my car to the shop & the owner was dedicated to fix the problem! He was very diligent and I was very appreciative that he went above and beyond. The sweetest mechanic I've come across, I will without a doubt return to Hollywood Transmissions whenever I have car trouble! read more

My Chevy Trailblazer needed a transmission flush. I spoke to Charlie(owner) over the phone and he was able to get me in on the following day. I had a problem with my 2009 Nissan Murano and the mechanic I took it to for an oil change said it was the transmission. I didn't know where to go so I searched yelp reviews to find a transmission specialist and found Hollywood Transmission. I called them and they told me to bring my car in to check it out. Charlie (the owner) was amazing right from the start. Clear communication and he seemed like an honest guy. After his inspection, he told me that I needed to rebuild my transmission, which is what I had suspected. I love my car, she's old but still looks great and has a lot of life left to live. They gave me a reasonably priced quote and Charlie looks like the Albert Einstein of transmissions, so I decided to trust him and his shop with my baby (my second baby, I am a mother with a young son, haha). He did a fantastic job! My car is running smoothly and I'm very happy. I will highly recommend his shop and tell anyone I know with transmission problems to go to him. He gives a 1 year warrantee for his work, which is great. I had also called the Nissan dealership to compare prices and their fee to service my car was a lot more expensive, and they offered a 1 year warranty as well. I'm am glad I decided to go to Hollywood Transmission instead of the dealership. Thank you Charlie! read more

The owner Charlie is a very nice guy and checked out my car twice to tell me what's wrong with zero charge. I explained to him my negative experience at another transmission shop and I could tell he was genuinely upset that they ripped me off and explained to me what should have been done and for what price. I plan to get any work I need done here and I suggest If you need transmission work done to take your car here too. They have the right attitude, and from what I can see an excellent reputation with their work. read more

So, I promised to update my review at the end of my Transmission repair experience with Hollywood Transmissions. So this is it, two months later and here we go.... I picked up the car yesterday, February 16th, 2023 from Charlie, who's had it in his shop since December of 2022, and drove it to the office and home, no freeway drive yet. It seemed to function well, however, it still has this anointing 3rd to 4th gear up-shift/down-shift clank, although less obtrusive than during the first go-around of repairs, which was in the fall of 2022. I got to say this: Charlie stood by his promise to try to fix the transmission. He stood by his word, and work. He gave me an extended warranty for 2 years, and offered to pay another shop the repair if I am not happy with the performance of his repair to my transmission. This man is gold. I cannot be more happy with his ethic. What a great shop to go to. read more

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GO TO THESE CRIMINALS FOR REPAIR OR A NEW TRANSMISSION. I had paid over 2000 for this guy to put in a transmission and he didn't even do anything when he told me my car was ready I couldn't even reverse out of his garage! What a total embarrassment of a human piece of garbage. He said he could no longer fix it and that I had to take it to another shop after I had paid thousands of dollars. Right now we are in the middle of filing a lawsuit against this shop. Please for the love of god do not make the same mistake as me take your car to the dealership or anywhere but here for transmission issues read more

Charlie's great. Diagnosed my problem, replaced my cars battery, gave me a reasonable quote for major work. He's been in business for over 30 years. I highly recommend Hollywood Transmission. read more

I have a 2001Mercedes C-240 with a manual transmission that I have had since it was new. It has about 150,000 miles on it which is not bad for a 22 year old Mercedes and I have always gone to the dealership for all repairs and parts until the transmission went and they told me $12,000.00 IF they could even get the part! The blue book value of my car is far less than $12,000.00 but it is worth much more to me and I was miserable thinking of having to buy another car and give up this one which has all my memories and which I have kept in pristine condition. Then I found Charlie and he said $3000.00. Of course, he also said it would take two days which it might have if he didn't also advise replacing the clutch which had about 20% of wear left on it. I said yes for another $1,000.00. The clutch took another three days to come which meant I was taking the subway - no brand new loaner car from Mercedes like I am used to. THAT was an adventure, especially in the dog days of August! However... I now have my baby back and it's driving like new. I can feel the new clutch easing in and the transmission, which sounded a little off at first, now has the sweet hum I'm used to. I love Charlie and I'm happy to write this review for him. Great job man! read more

After spending thousands of dollars for a transmission repair, i brought the car back in multiple times for all related to the original repair that was done. And he charges me anther extra $500.00 each and every time i brought in the car. I resorted to leaving negative review of this shop and he called more than 10 times leaving cursing and threatening messages. I finally texted him that i would call the cops if he calls again to have it stopped. read more

Charlie the owner is the best in the West when it comes to transmissions, customer service and honesty. He's been fixing transmissions all his life. Wouldn't trust anyone else after he fixed a broken gear cable and gave me a discount due to the expensive tow I endured to get my truck to him. Thanks Charlie and thanks to his wife who keeps him looking sharp and professional! read more

Charlie is soooo kind! I went to many different shops before I found this gem, and Hollywood Transmission is hands down the best service and pricing. Fantastic experience with Hollywood Transmissions! Transmission dropped on me and needed a rebuild. They took my car in immediately, gave me a great rate and did outstanding work on my car. Highly recommend if you happen to run into transmission problems like I did, as soon as I knew it was my transmission I got incredibly stressed, but the minute I took my car in to Hollywood transmissions and they took a look at it and gave me a quote, I was relieved to have the piece of mind that my car was in good hands. Many Thanks to the Hollywood Transmissions team! read more
